Xi Tells His American Catspaw Joe Biden: We're Taking Taiwan Back

And there's nothing that Biden will do about it. He's been paid well for just this moment.

Chinese President Xi Jinping bluntly told President Joe Biden during their recent summit in San Francisco that Beijing will reunify Taiwan with mainland China but that the timing has not yet been decided, according to three current and former U.S. officials.

Xi told Biden in a group meeting attended by a dozen American and Chinese officials that China's preference is to take Taiwan peacefully, not by force, the officials said.

Yes but they told Biden they're taking it one way or the other. Even a warmonger would rather that his enemies surrender without a fight.

The Chinese leader also referenced public predictions by U.S. military leaders who say that Xi plans to take Taiwan in 2025 or 2027, telling Biden that they were wrong because he has not set a time frame, according to the two current and one former official briefed on the meeting.

Chinese officials also asked in advance of the summit that Biden make a public statement after the meeting saying that the U.S. supports China's goal of peaceful unification with Taiwan and does not support Taiwanese independence, they said. The White House rejected the Chinese request.

Now, for the leftwing propaganda media which rigged an election to get Biden installed into office to argue that this is no big deal, really, no sign at all that China thinks Biden is weak (and paid-off, and therefore compromised by blackmail material) and knows it can start a war without suffering consequences.

Officials familiar with the conversation between Biden and Xi described the Chinese leader as blunt and candid, but not confrontational.

"His language was no different than what he has always said. He is always tough on Taiwan. He's always had a tough line," said a U.S. official with knowledge of the conversation.

Fuck you, Jake Sullivan.

If this is true - and who knows if it is - it really shows you how Xi treats Biden. He told Biden this ultimatum on American soil.

Yet, Xi owns Biden but not the entire system, and the sanctions started under Trump are hurting. The ones that amplified under Biden - and yes, some of them have - hurt even more.

If this is true, I don't know whether it's a genuine declaration or an attempt to regain some lost benefits from owning the Bidens. No clue.

23 I commented about this yesterday. China realizes it doesn't have to militarily invade Taiwan. China just has to buy the country bit by bit. China is spreading tons of money around Taiwan buying up companies and industries and for influence. Some high profile Taiwanese politicians and decision-makers are already in China's pocket. China will eventually own Taiwan lock, stock, and barrel. Not a single shot need be fired.

Think about this.

Most western countries have given Ukraine their weapon stocks. It's just now they are refusing to do more and trying to restock.

A lot of those weapons, including all the missiles and rockets need chips made in Taiwan.

So once China controls those or destroys those, no one is make more splodey missiles.

83 There are a number of YTs saying China won't and can't invade Taiwan like this one.

http://tinyurl.com/m2ku97zp

Many contend that China has run out of time. Their economy is crumbling, their population growth is declining and aging, their available manpower is shrinking, and the difficulties of crossing a hundred miles of water to get there should not be minimized.

84 Taiwan is not defenseless, but you start getting into a lot of hypotheticals if there isn't an invasion but rather a coup (which is essentially what Xi's preference is).

They have tentacles. They do not have capability. China has spent more than a decade trying to throw money at the high-end semiconductor problem, and failing at every turn. It's not a problem that can be solved with money. It requires sophisticated machinery and operational prowess that they do not have, and they don't have nearly enough design engineers.

Those problems go away if they get Taiwan.

89 23 I commented about this yesterday.
Posted by: Elric Blade at December 21, 2023 02:15 PM (iFTx/)

A military invasion of Taiwan is a nonstarter. A slow, steady buyout, on the other hand, makes more sense. Taiwan's last presidential election saw the right-wing winner defeat a pretty open China apologist. The next election, if I remember correctly, will feature the founder of Foxconn as one of the candidates. Seeing that his fortunes are inextricably tied to the Mainland's, I can see China making big inroads with reunification going forward.

They don't have modern fabs. They are a few generations behind. China dominates low-end chipmaking, but have very little high-end capacity. And destroying Taiwan's would hurt us very, very badly. It would hurt the rest of the world, too. It would be better than having it transfer to Beijing.

China's demographic problem lags the US's.

They could destroy their own economy through excessive government intervention, but otherwise a speculative bubble and recession is just a normal economic cycle.

Amphibious invasion of Taiwan would be very costly in lives, so even an attempt to take it by force may involve simply trying to blockade it until it surrenders however. That depends on China having sufficient naval and air power to ward off US intervention.

RAM and storage devices will get a bit more expensive but remain available, since a lot of that stuff is made in Korea and the United States. No, I haven't. They're already buying and stealing everything they can, but the IP isn't valuable without the ability to manufacture it. China doesn't have that ability, and has been failing to develop or acquire it.

The more important tentacles aren't in the chip industry, but in the Taiwan government. Execute a coup or get Taiwan to agree to an anschluss and the problems largely go away, at least for the current and next generations.

156 131 Amphibious invasion of Taiwan would be very costly in lives, so even an attempt to take it by force may involve simply trying to blockade it until it surrenders however. That depends on China having sufficient naval and air power to ward off US intervention.

But TSMC has the know-how. Running those fabs isn't easy, and keeping the machinery running isn't, either. Intel is very good at it, too, as are special-purpose players like Broadcom in lower-end chips - but nobody has the custom chip capacity and production levels that TSMC does. Right now, America has plenty of say in TSMC but China will invade Taiwan and the balance of power will substantially shift.

Americans need to understand what China knows: controlling Taiwan means future technological dominance is at stake. If South Korea is then lost, which will be the next goal, the west simply becomes dependent on China. Taiwan and South Korea are the world's source of chips, and modern life is not possible without them.

Foxconn is mercenary. There are two big things at play with Foxconn. One is that their operations on the mainland aren't lucrative enough to be a single source anymore when Vietnamese and Indian labor is cheaper. Another is that Foxconn's customers - Apple, for example - are no longer comfortable with Red China as the dominant location for manufacturing. Foxconn's customers are increasingly demanding supply chain diversity, and Foxconn is responding to those demands by building factories elsewhere.

It's not just Foxconn's dynamic, either.

And the only reason why Hamas could get through the Israeli border defenses is because Russian intelligence told Hamas how to do it. (I have not seen this claim anywhere else.)

The good news is since the cost of supporting Ukraine and Israel is only 5% of our defense budget, we can fully fund both the wars in Ukraine and in Israel indefinitely, no problem.

It goes beyond that, and you don't need to trust our intel officials. Trade flows tell the tale. China imports (or used to import) staggering amounts of high-end chips. They wouldn't if they could build them domestically. It's a major cost center even before the noose started tightening. It's the primary reason Xi has been hurling money at the semiconductor industry.

That has paid some dividends, just not very good ones. China now does have home-grown x86 processors, RISC processors and graphics/AI accelerators, they just aren't very good and most of it is based on stolen designs (going to Elric's point up there) that they subsequently adapted. All of it is a couple of generations behind.

Presumably he means sweeping over vast territories in a rapid series of conquests. China was historically so large and with a sufficiently difficult internal power struggle that further expansion was very risky. Lose the expeditionary army, even if it's easily replaceable on paper, and the entire country could be thrown into chaos as more local powers within China start to assert themselves.

Not sure how true that is today, but modern China certainly doesn't have the fiercely militant culture of ancient Qin (where military accomplishment was the path to wealth and status).

The hot war in Ukraine is being done that way, and the current drone war in Yemen is causing major embarrassment - the Red Sea closed to all traffic but Russian Oil, US ships worried that trading expensive ordnance for cheap drones is a bad trade, and the Brits discovering that their destroyers have a tendency to stop functioning and all need to have an additional generator added requiring long drydock times.

Russia also is getting tons of experience in *halting* drone swarms as it is the one weapon Ukraine has that is effective to some extent. And all this information is being shared with China because the US and EU decided to be a more proximate threat to Russia than China might become.

yeah, the small drones are cheap and somewhat effective. But those are mostly operated individually. The drone swarms could be hundreds, or thousands, of small explosive drones that overwhelm most defenses.

And with good AI chips, could seek specific targets, perhaps even facial recognition. Scary concepts ahead. I hope we are keeping up, not not so sure.

But infiltration as with the Bidens seems the preferred route of conquest. Russia and China are involved in S America, as I hear it.

Ukraine let something slip in their campaign for more money - they need 20000 men a month to keep up the current strength. They are planning a new draft, which would be the tenth. They lost about 175000 KIA and serious WIA in the summer offensive to take a scattering of little villages that both Ukraine and Russia have hundreds to thousands of.

293 It is not unusual for a leader in trouble to promote some sort of military action. A military win would make Xi look good. Taking Taiwan is going to be easier than Putin invading Ukraine.
And the US probably does not want to go to war with China over Taiwan.

But Xi told Biden he is willing to take Taiwan peacefully. This change is because of the Russian invasion going badly.

Biden has promised to defend Taiwan if attacked, so I am not loving the high probability of that happening. I doubt we could just send them weapons like with Ukraine.

Why is Xi is obsessed with taking over tiny Taiwan? His country needs stability now, not a war. But dictators don't give a shit about their own people.

Thank Trump for the rampant global instability.

Honestly if that is exactly what he said it's not any different than what they've said for years. He didn't say "Hey Joe we don't care, we're invading next year". He said pretty much what has been said for 40 years.

The news is that if your enemy says they are going to do something, if that thing they say they will do will start a war, you either accept that you have already lost, or you go into wartime production mode.

If we are serious about defending Taiwan, we will seriously address the problem. Cut off trade, secure borders, ramp up industrial sector, etc.

If we do not do that, then we are telling China that a "small incursion" is OK. Have at it.

Small drones, at least so far seem vulnerable to being jammed or burned out by Anti Air units the Russians have. They have been getting increasingly effective during the progress of the war, films of drones falling out of the sky when hit by these are out there.

I saw last night that the administration's plan is to have UKR hold out until 2025, and by then they will have enough of the right weapons to win.

The only trick is getting Russia to time out. I was thinking one of those Japanese time stopping watches they use in ... I think only porn. Not sure. Not sure where that meme came from but it stops time so main character can do what they please.

I've got it! Feed the rats to the illegals! You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, rat-kabobs, rat creole, rat gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple rat, lemon rat, coconut rat, pepper rat, rat soup, rat stew, rat salad, rat and potatoes, rat burger, rat sandwich.

Sometimes ships fired main guns to create plumes that could take down a torpedo or dive bomber on the exit after an attack. I think it worked every so often.

And from what I've heard, when they finally got used the only thing they did was damage Yamato.

The "freeze" isn't going to happen as the EU has admitted that the previous treaty before the war was intentionally violated to build Ukraine's military back up after defeat by Donbas in 2014.

The only way imaginable way to get any sort of ceasefire would be to cede enough turf Russia wants but doesn't have to make it worth their while. That isn't likely to happen, and all the unilateral chatter in the US and EU is just more signs that the leadership of the war is detached from reality on the ground.
