Countdown to Christmas Cafe

snowybudapest.jpg
Budapest
by Krenn_imre

Nice pet goose.

Lovebirds.

Caption: "God will always send angels to aid you." A train absolutely destroys a tractor trailer, with facts and logic and also the terrifying momentum of a comet, but the truck driver walks away unscathed. (Instagram)

A collection of videos of the Icelandic eruption. (Instagram)

She knows her way around balls.

Neat -- juggling, but viewed from above. So you can be unimpressed from an entirely different angle!

It's a Christmas present that licks your face!

A bee, sleeping on the job.

Testing firecracker for their Kaboom Factor.

This is actually a really, really good surprise which we've never seen in an espionage movie -- yet. Now someone will steal it, of course.

An hour of retro Christmas commercials:

But commerce isn't what Christmas is all about.

Released hostage, Yaffa Adar (85) said that during her captivity every morning she would whisper to herself the songs of Andrea Bocelli, which gave her hope.

The singer sent a letter, inviting her to his show: “I wish I could hug you, Yaffa, you gave new meaning to my music.”

The granddaughter of released hostage Yaffa Adar (85) is reading the letter Andrea Bocelli wrote her. Happy tears ❤️

25 Budapest is a cool city. Beautiful. But it's also a no-nonsense, sinister sort of place. I liked it a lot.

Only thing is, it feels too big for my liking. It's technically only a couple million people, but it feels NYC sized when you're in it.

I met the best bouncer I ever saw there. He was working the rope at a club I was going to, and told me "give me the knife in your pants. You can have it back when you leave."

I have no clue how he knew. It was well-concealed. Not at all obvious. He knew his shit, for sure.

37 I never thought about bees sleeping, but it makes sense. I mean, all that buzzing around must be pretty exhausting.

I'm thinking back to an incident that happened to me years ago, and am now wondering if it involved a sleeping bee. I had gone out to lunch, and when I returned from lunch, I went into my supervisor's office to talk to him about something. I removed my hat, and a bee flew out of my hair. The bee obviously made himself at home when I was outside and removed my hat momentarily. Perhaps he fell asleep and that's why he didn't sting me.

55 I worked a couple of professional firework shows. The last one was a hand fire using a road flare, had mortars from 2.5" to 5", probably 400 shot, damn Chinese fireworks came with black match fuses, almost instantaneous ignition. It was 22 minutes of hell fire on earth. You couldn't touch the fuse and turn away fast enough so they launched practically in your face. You learn from the sound the ones with defective lift charges. You prepare by putting your back to the impending burst. Fortunately, duds were rare.

They didn't bother to spell out for the moron that Cossacks are far better known for killing Jews than for being Jews. No one could stop him from blaming Israel and tying it all to Gaza somehow. There were other reports that he had a Russian-language social-media accounts (I forget which kind) and others that it was obviously fake since it was still being posted on after he was dead. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was epic and quietly appropriate in every way. Ignored now, mostly, it is.

Instead, we are infected with smarmly little do-nothings and know-nothings getting filmed having their roto routered in government offices. Our offices, paid for with our tax dollars. The smarmsters and those who drop them into our affairs are due their just desserts. Time to pay up, scum.

117 We were talking about Robespierre earlier today which prompted me to read more about him.

Did you know he opposed capital punishment? Gave all sorts of speeches about it. Until he acquired power. Then suddenly not only was it ok...but it was morally necessary because his enemies were so evil.

And then I was watching Peterson interview Michael Malice. And they mention Emma Goldman talking with Lenin, and Lenin told them that all those freedoms he talked about before he acquired power were important but...his enemies were do dangerous they had to be destroyed first.

And then of course I was considering CO which decided that do to the dangers of Trump we have to suppress popular sovereignty in the name of democracy...

And...this pattern just repeats endlessly doesn't it? Whatever the left says before once they acquire power they only use it to destroy.

I was up in Lawrence County a few weeks ago. There is still an old covered bridge, still being used to cross a creek. It's been there for a century or so. They've had to strengthen it for cars and there is a weight limit. Still, it was a delight to see it still standing. It's way off the beaten path in very rural West PA.

167 Prayers up for all of our parental units that have health issues.

I was very fortunate - I had both sets of my grands until I was in my 40's and my parents both lived into their 80's.

168 Everyone have a wonderful night.

May your blessings arrive early, with togetherness, warmth, and no metal protruding from the face or body parts.

The Flagler* mansion/museum in south Florida is an exercise in kitsch tacky. Various rooms overdone in various styles. Its like he asked every room to be done in different styles and "money was no object" in getting it done.

When Marion DuPont Scott, wife of the actor Randolph Scott, owned James Madison's Virginia home, "Montpelier", she had one room done up all in horsey culture. A "tack" room, as it were. To say that it was truly tacky would be to understate matters.

Just hit 40 and been worried about my folks. They were older for the time when I was born. Dad is nearing 80 and he seems to be showing some wear where he used to be invincible to me.
