Top Story

Tech News

  • Rite Aid has been banned from using facial recognition systems for five years after getting it wrong. (Tech Crunch)

That? That's not a face. This is a face.

They should be back on line just in time for the catgirls.

  • The HP Omen Transcend 16 doesn't look terrible. (Hot Hardware)

It has an Intel 13900HX - 8 P cores plus 16 E cores, Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics, up to 96GB of RAM, a 2560x1600 240Hz display, and the ten essential keys (which is to say, a full desktop cursor pad).

Plus two Thunderbolt ports, HDMI, wired Ethernet, regular USB, HDMI, and a headphone jack.

It comes in black or white, and could be worth considering if you want a laptop that can play games but can also pass as a boring business model.

Price varies in the vicinity of $2000, so if it's much more than that, wait for a sale.

10 Evening and morning, all you satellites and substations of insanity! Dec. 21 looms!

Here is a video that my local music group, Benny Grunch and the Bunch, made some years ago. It is the quintessential Noo Awlins music video, funny as all get out. No, you may not know all the references in the lyrics, but the way it's performed and edited is hilarious in itself. If you do know the references, it's really a classic.

An episode of ST:Enterprise (you know with Capt. Archer) established the truth about the Orion "Slave Girls", you know the green chicks.

They were not slaves. Indeed, they were the masters. You see, the had powerful pheromones that rendered all humanoid males putty in their hands (save Vulcans). The slave girl bit was all an act. They ran the Orion Syndicate.

31 And if you know anyone who is having a hard time this holiday and is a Christian see if there is a "longest night of the year/ Blue Christmas service service in your area. They are often offered by Episcopal, Reformed or Methodist churches. Yes, I know we all think those churches are irredeemable tools of the devil, but unless they have a rainbow flag outside their church it's probably ok to attend a Blue Christmas service . Independent Churches may offer them too. You can probably also find a service of that source in you tube as well.

So "AFRU" is parody. I can see it, now. They fooled me.

We have a variation of Arthur C. Clarke's Third Law afoot here: Sufficiently advanced parody is indistinguishable from reality.

Or maybe we should phrase that as sufficiently advanced (in terms of wokified Clown World) reality is indistinguishable from any parody.

Bugger in Senate hearing room is the equivalent of Anne Frank. Actual, literal, Nazi SS/Gestapo goon squads are "insurrectionists"? Over the top. Yet, one can believe that they would say that.

One place is a hidden folder in the users directories. Windows make them hidden by default. Now why would they do that? It's the users\app data\local\temp folder. I've see that thing with 100s of 1000s of files living in there since the day Windows was installed.

This gets insanely complicated. There is the System temp directory, and then User temp directories. And there are two common temp directories, named "Temp" and "TMP". They usually point to the same location. It would take me paragraphs of 'splaining to cover all the possibilities, but here the defaults, for Windows, current version, and dating back to Windows 7 or so.

System Temp/Tmp is under C:\Windows\Temp. Look under there.

User temp is under
C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\

Look there. Now, that can be changed from the defaults.

158 They take your checks and erase the name on the 'Pay to the order of' line and substitute some crooked grocer. Who probably pays them fifty cents on the dollar, with which they then buy some fvcking fentanyl from China smuggled across the southern border.

Had that happen a year or so ago, and anyone cashing the check would see how blatent it was, as they just wrote directly over the amount in a different pen. Thankfully the bank didn't send the cash, or else it would have bounced a few checks, including our property tax.

I drop US mail off at a postal shop we use, not the post office. The office in our tiny town made the news for inefficiency and incompetence.

I think there needs to be a conflict in many situations. Look at the times the (R)s should be conflicted with the (D)s but end up in a compromise that moves the ball to the (D)s 19 yard line.

When you add it all up, maybe a tad, but they last longer, work better, need less accessories. And you can get deals to pay them off in a year monthly.

But yes a tad more expensive

If you can find a "Like New" version on MacOfAllTrades I've had a lot of luck with the item being actually new and unused. My current mac was a 3 year old model when I got it, saved about 80% off retail, and it was completely new except for what looks like a space on the bottom where a sticker was taken off.

But yeah, as much as I hate Macs, they're solid and pretty trouble free (watch mine now explode later today)
