Biden's "Very, Very Dark" Polling Has Democrats Panicking
A recent Monmouth poll showed that only one third of Americans approve of Brandon's job performance.

Only one-third of Americans gave President Biden a thumbs up on the job he is doing in the White House, according to a new national public opinion survey. The president stands at 34% approval in a Monmouth University poll released on Monday, with 61% giving Biden a thumbs down on his job performance. The president's approval is at an all-time low in Monmouth polling since Biden took over the White House nearly three years ago. Americans questioned in the survey gave the president particularly low marks for his handling of immigration (26%) and inflation (28%). "The Biden administration keeps touting their infrastructure investments and a host of positive economic indicators. Those data points may be factual, but most Americans are still smarting from higher prices caused by post-pandemic inflation. This seems to be what's driving public opinion," Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, highlighted. "There is political danger in pushing a message that basically tells people their take on their own situation is wrong." Murray spotlighted that "there is certainly an element of partisanship in how people frame their own financial situation, which is based in part on who occupies the White House. But even a good chunk of Biden's Democratic base wish he'd start paying more attention to their top priorities than he is now." ... The release of the Monmouth poll comes two weeks after the president stood at 37% approval -- an all-time low -- in a Wall Street Journal survey. However, a new Fox News national poll released on Sunday indicated Biden's approval rating at 43%.

Biden stands far below where his three most recent two-term predecessors -- former Presidents Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama -- stood at this point in their presidencies, as they successfully ran for re-election. The only recent president whose approval ratings were nearly as negative as Biden's current numbers was his most recent predecessor, former President Trump, who was defeated by Biden in the 2020 election.
President Biden is complaining to close aides as his low approval rating continues to frustrate him and first lady Jill Biden, according to a new media report. "After pardoning a pair of turkeys, an annual White House tradition, Biden delivered some stern words for the small group assembled: His poll numbers were unacceptably low and he wanted to know what his team and his campaign were doing about it," The Washington Post reported. "He complained that his economic message had done little to move the ball, even as the economy was growing and unemployment was falling, according to people familiar with his comments, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a private conversation," according to The Post, whose headline noted Biden's "dismal poll numbers." The Biden family's complaints date back months, with Joe and Jill Biden telling "aides and friends they are frustrated by the president's low approval rating and the polls that show him trailing former president Donald Trump," the report continued.Aggro Democrats are starting to get bossy about third parties, demanding they exit the field so that their old rapist has a clearer path to victory.
In recent weeks, both Joe and Jill Biden have "grown upset that they are not making more progress." ... [Former Congressman Conor] Lamb said that Democrats are in "a state of paralysis" over how to help Biden's campaign.
At PJ Media, Vodkapundit writes that some Democrats have changed their position from "don't panic" to "yes, panic."
Jim Messina, a former top aide to former President Obama, claimed that a "third-party candidate can't win in 2024" and might guarantee former President Trump does. "With a rematch between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump almost set in stone, it's time to put a farce to rest: The notion that a third-party candidate could actually win the presidency in 2024," Messina wrote in an op-ed for Politico. "No Labels is pushing a dangerous lie that would simply serve to put Donald Trump back in the White House," he continued. No Labels is a third-party group founded by former Connecticut senator Joe Lieberman, a former Democrat who became an independent. ... "While a third-party candidate can't win, No Labels could still throw the election to Trump, and it wouldn't take that many votes," Messina wrote, explaining that the past two elections indicate that Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin may again swing the election for President Biden or Trump, the current favorite to be his Republican opponent. "A No Labels candidate in these states could easily hand the election to Trump," Messina wrote. ... "The people at No Labels know better than this," Messina continued. "It's time to cut the crap, believe the data and be honest with the American people. Any well-funded third-party candidate would be a disaster for our republic -- and risks putting us on a direct path to a dictatorship."

It's now too late for a primary entrant to register and get on the ballot in enough states to beat Biden, so he will withdraw just before the convention and allow the delegates there -- the party hacks -- to just choose the candidate. Which is the system the Democrat Party really wants, anyway.

"This might be the worst polling environment for an incumbent president one year out from an election since the advent of the polling era," according to Faris, "and also the most dire situation facing any Democratic presidential candidate in decades." Part of what is driving this sentiment is that Trump is, in their view, so manifestly unfit to serve that no viable Democratic nominee should ever trail him.Trump only led Hillary Clinton in national polls five times in 2016. He's done so 29 times this cycle.
Yet Biden is 1.9 points behind Trump in the RealClearPolitics polling average. The sitting president also trails Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) by 0.8 points and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley by 4.

I followed an LA Times (iirc) tracking poll back then. Hillary was up a little. UNTIL SHE FELL ON 9/11. In three days Trump was on top and stayed on top until Election Day.

The fact that 75% don't want either Trump or Biden, that means they absolutely have to make sure they are running against a deeply polarizing figure and just hoping the negatives cancel each other out.
Everyone here knows polling is a weapon, usually it's to dispirit us, but they need to make us think Trump can win this thing.
Even if you want to buy into all polling, it's within the margin of error and Trump isn't over 50%. Lots of "undecideds" that aren't going to break Trump's way, they're just unhappy with Biden.

If voters are fixed (no crossover as compared to last time), then the margin gets made up - if it does - on reduced voting for Biden, not increased voting for Trump. They don't flip, they just stay home.
Either way, I think the cheat will be very hard if not impossible to overcome. I suspect Biden's reelection is already in the bag. This nervousness in public is reset the chess board post-election (factional movement) or acknowledgment that the cheat might be too big to enable continued credulity.

I commute through 3 counties in Mid-Ohio for work and over the past year have watched the Trump signs and flags go from innumerable to absolute zero. "But the polls!!" My nickle is on them not cutting rates at all. If they do, my next nickle is on a single rate cut of a quarter point that is likely undone fairly quickly. I think the Fed is going to try to *hold* rates until the election, but dropping them is a lot less likely than a destructive hold. The Fed influences rates, but it doesn't actually set them. If Treasury keeps having trouble with bond auctions (the primary dealers have had to intervene at least once already to support the issue), they'll have no choice.

It's absolutely political and the announcement shocked a lot of smart people in the market who had the opposite bet. Hats because it makes no sense. Consumer debt is an issue CRE is overextended, consumer spending is an issue, and core inflation is at "target" but it's still too high. The way BLS adjusts the numbers, nobody relies on them anymore. Employment is going to start dipping, especially if they rise rates. That before we get to a market that is way over inflated. It's going to either be a slow burn or big crash. There is no other choice and if they move too fast it will be the latter. It's only a matter of when.

It wasn't actually announced, and when reality sets in it's going to make a lot of brokers very unhappy. Powell is dancing and his statements about possible cuts are so full of "ifs" that the statements were semantically empty.
The market took all of that to mean "the Fed will cut rates by 1500 bps next year" and have started to price that in. If that turns out not to be the case - and am I still holding the position that it will not be - they're going to have to scramble.

They are sending conflicting signals. But die hard Dems like the SF Fed president was backing the rate cut garbage. I know they're trying to soften it based on the market reaction, but I think they're going to go YOLO and we get at least three rate cuts, which is what a lot of the street is pricing in. They don't really care because the potential impact of those cuts will probably be beyond the next general election. Although there is a possibility if they do it too soon you get a quick increase in unemployment and a market event. But I honestly don't see core inflation (the real numbers) going away as fast as they are thinking. We get at least a brief recession and the revised GDP numbers seem to be leaning in that direction (after the backwards revisions)

I think this is political to buy some time for the government rather than a well-reasoned and conditioned plan to actually do it. Time will, of course, tell and if I end up with egg on my face then so be it. The money has a strong chance of failing if they do it, and the Fed has a long history of defending the money when the chips are down.

For all my whiskies except the really high-end shit, I've actually been throwing in a rock, swirling it around, and then taking it out. That little bit of ice melting off opens the taste up a bit, brings down the ABV a bit, and takes the temp down from low-70s (room temp) to mid- to high-60s where I like it.

Yea, he did some nice things with a veto proof majority including many of the things the legislature had already proposed. Florida isn't the swamp and anyone who claims to be on our side and still thinks Biden won is not a serious person. Trump was by far the best president in my lifetime also doing exactly what he promised with almost no help in DC while fighting the deep state every step of the way. Ron would have put on his high heels and run in a heartbeat.

I like the chipotle ranch burritos which are $2 each near me, but, yeah, Taco Bell has gotten ridiculous if you're not careful with what you order. It didn't used to be that way.
There's a sit-down Mexican restaurant literally across the street from my local Taco Bell. It has a better food and offers full service that usually ends up being about the same price (even considering tip) as taking the family to Taco Bell. I guess it's not as convenient as a drive-thru, but it is fairly quick and it's surprising to have that premium experience without any extra cost.
I wonder if the fast food bubble is going to burst soon.
