Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Biden's "Very, Very Dark" Polling Has Democrats PanickingA recent Monmouth poll showed that only one third of Americans approve of Brandon's job performance. One third!Ah, Fox News' Hillary-Clinton-supporter-run polling operation. Never change, Murdochs. Gropey Joe and his cheap floozy of a nursewife are sad about the poll numbers. President Biden is complaining to close aides as his low approval rating continues to frustrate him and first lady Jill Biden, according to a new media report. "After pardoning a pair of turkeys, an annual White House tradition, Biden delivered some stern words for the small group assembled: His poll numbers were unacceptably low and he wanted to know what his team and his campaign were doing about it," The Washington Post reported. "He complained that his economic message had done little to move the ball, even as the economy was growing and unemployment was falling, according to people familiar with his comments, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a private conversation," according to The Post, whose headline noted Biden's "dismal poll numbers." The Biden family's complaints date back months, with Joe and Jill Biden telling "aides and friends they are frustrated by the president's low approval rating and the polls that show him trailing former president Donald Trump," the report continued.Aggro Democrats are starting to get bossy about third parties, demanding they exit the field so that their old rapist has a clearer path to victory. At PJ Media, Vodkapundit writes that some Democrats have changed their position from "don't panic" to "yes, panic." I mean, yes, that's exactly what's going to happen. It's now too late for a primary entrant to register and get on the ballot in enough states to beat Biden, so he will withdraw just before the convention and allow the delegates there -- the party hacks -- to just choose the candidate. Which is the system the Democrat Party really wants, anyway. James Antle writes about the growing panic. Patience or panic. Those are the competing impulses among Democrats as the reality sets in that if the election were held today, President Joe Biden would probably lose to former President Donald Trump. The election is not today but rather nearly a year from now. Democrats counseling caution are quick to note that the polls forecasting Biden's doom this early out are not predictive by historical standards. ... Prominent Democratic operative and analyst David Axelrod, who remains close to former President Barack Obama and is reflective of Obamaworld thinking, has warned that Biden has no better than a 50-50 shot at reelection. "But no better than that, maybe a little worse," Axelrod told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. "He thinks he can cheat nature here, and it's really risky. They've got a real problem if they're counting on Trump to win it for them. I remember Hillary doing that, too." Axelrod previously mused on X, formerly Twitter, about Biden giving serious thought to whether he should continue to pursue a reelection campaign. Billionaire investor Bill Ackman went a step further than Axelrod. "I think Biden's done a lot of good things. But I think his legacy will not be a good one if he is the nominee," Ackman told Bloomberg Television. "I do think the right thing for Biden to do is to step aside and to say he's not going to run and create the opportunity for some competition." Part of what is driving this sentiment is that Trump is, in their view, so manifestly unfit to serve that no viable Democratic nominee should ever trail him.Trump only led Hillary Clinton in national polls five times in 2016. He's done so 29 times this cycle. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The best-case scenario for Dems is that Biden -- for the good of the country, you see -- steps aside at the Democratic National Convention this summer and graciously allows his replacement to be selected by the will of the people. And by "will of the people," I mean a handful of Democrat bigwigs will secretly meet in a vape-filled room and pick California Gov. Gavin Newsom or some other deep blue state governor.

The Left has the solution to poor economic data.
Let’s Make Taxes Five Times Higher. We don’t need to embrace small government to deal with debt. By almost every measure, Americans are undertaxed, and have been for at least four decades. Treasury gets most of its revenue from the income tax. Between 1980 and 2019, the average income tax burden fell from 11.8 percent of income to 9.3 percent... ...So what’s the good news? Well, Fairless reports that the so-called Washington consensus, “which emphasized a reduction in state support for businesses, the removal of regulations impeding competition and trade liberalization” no longer holds much sway in Europe or Japan. That raises some hope that the Washington consensus will eventually die off in Washington too. Should that happen, “the U.S. has more scope than many countries to raise taxes,” Fairless notes, because taxes start out at a much lower proportion of GDP. In theory there’s some point at which taxes become so great a percentage of GDP that economic growth suffers. But in observable fact there’s little evidence of that happening even in France and Germany... Doesn't feel likely that there will be such an on-the-spot switch at the DNCC. That would just be too controversial and turn too many people away. They need to have a softer landing for who the candidate will be before the convention, but it doesn't seem like they've figured that out yet. Honestly, is it such a stretch to think they'll just go with Joe again like they did 4 years ago? He was senile and decrepit then. They didn't want him then, they just didn't have an alternative (Warren was too unpopular and they didn't trust Bernie). Sure he's worse, but they can keep coddling him and pumping him with drugs every now and then for public appearances, while the 'administration' really runs things.
I'm struggling to believe Biden won't be the Dem candidate in 10 months. He's come this far and nothing has changed that radically. The question is what's going on with the Republican side. Even if Trump sweeps the primaries, will they poison the water with legal challenges and mass riots...? Some really smart guy once said that "polls are there to shape opinion, not reflect it." All the polls are doing at this point are trying to ensure Democrats get to run against Trump. The most baggage, the least discipline and a potato just beat him a few years ago.
Posted by: Fool Otto ___ Exactly. The fact that 75% don't want either Trump or Biden, that means they absolutely have to make sure they are running against a deeply polarizing figure and just hoping the negatives cancel each other out. Everyone here knows polling is a weapon, usually it's to dispirit us, but they need to make us think Trump can win this thing. Even if you want to buy into all polling, it's within the margin of error and Trump isn't over 50%. Lots of "undecideds" that aren't going to break Trump's way, they're just unhappy with Biden. The president stands at 34% approval in a Monmouth University poll released on Monday, with 61% giving Biden a thumbs down on his job performance. ++++ That's approaching the floor. In an attempt to show how even-handed the CO court ruling to remove Trump from the primary ballot was, some are framing the case as prominent CO Republicans suing to force the Democrat SoS Griswold to remove Trump's name. The case was filed as Anderson vs. Griswold.
Two things: 1. Jena Griswold is a radical lefty activist who would have zero hesitation in wiping Trump from the political landscape. Hardly a staunch defender of his electoral rights. B. Norma Anderson, the putative Republican is a former state representative and later president of the state senate who retired from the legislature nearly 20 years ago and resigned from the GOP over its support for Trump in 2016. i.e. a never-Trumper ex-Republican old lady who keeps a copy of the pocket Constitution on the side table next to her TV chair. I don't think they are actually going to attempt more than one rate drop...they know they have not let the higher rates work for anywhere the length of time they need.
The announcement was merely to effect the perception of Rising Rates. At least, that is my read. Dropping rates quickly is worse than raising them to begin with. Posted by: garrett at December 22, 2023 12:51 PM (HSyGa) ++++ My nickle is on them not cutting rates at all. If they do, my next nickle is on a single rate cut of a quarter point that is likely undone fairly quickly. I think the Fed is going to try to *hold* rates until the election, but dropping them is a lot less likely than a destructive hold. The Fed influences rates, but it doesn't actually set them. If Treasury keeps having trouble with bond auctions (the primary dealers have had to intervene at least once already to support the issue), they'll have no choice. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at December 22, 2023 01:02 PM (zxP/x)" They are sending conflicting signals. But die hard Dems like the SF Fed president was backing the rate cut garbage. I know they're trying to soften it based on the market reaction, but I think they're going to go YOLO and we get at least three rate cuts, which is what a lot of the street is pricing in. They don't really care because the potential impact of those cuts will probably be beyond the next general election. Although there is a possibility if they do it too soon you get a quick increase in unemployment and a market event. But I honestly don't see core inflation (the real numbers) going away as fast as they are thinking. We get at least a brief recession and the revised GDP numbers seem to be leaning in that direction (after the backwards revisions) Posted by: Marcus T at December 22, 2023 01:08 PM (tU3dj) 398

These clowns and fraudsters are still using landlines, still using call centers staffed by minimum wage flunkies, still reaching people bored, lonely and stupid enough to answer calls from total strangers and divulge all manner of personal data - income, sexual preference, family size, party registration, occupation, religion etc. - to that same total stranger. No wonder financial scams work so well. In addition, the surveys are 15-20 min.
