The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

12 22 c0ffee.jpg

***

Good morning. You do realize there is time to enjoy the Mystery Click and several cups of coffee before you race out to the stores.

In the event I don't see any of you from here on out this weekend, please know that the Fabulous and I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas.

***

You still have time to make some Coffee Break cookies. Sorry CBD.

Caffeinate Your Cookies With Any Coffee or Tea
Coffee grounds, tea leaves, matcha powder? The choice is yours.

When you’re making shortbread, you basically have three opportunities to add flavor: The first, via what flour you decide to use, is the most simple. You just swap your standard all-purpose out and reap the nutty, buttery rewards of alternative grains as Dorie Greenspan does in her iconic spelt-flax shortbread. The second, via the fat, is another common route. Rachel Gurjar’s chile-cheese cookies call upon sharp cheddar to push the shortbread into a sweet-and-savory world that completely changes their vibe. But the last way to add flavor, via the sugar, is a severely underrated and uniquely helpful route; especially when trying to infuse the tannic, floral, rich flavors of coffee or tea.

Most coffee- or tea-flavored desserts are made through some type of steeping or infusing process. But in the case of shortbread, where there is no liquid, we look to the sugar to carry their flavors. This might sound complicated, but it’s as easy as grinding the sugar with the tea in a food processor. Here’s how to do it.

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters. (Rulz for those of you in Potosi.)

1) Open thread, feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Politely hand out coal to those who deserve it.
3) If you run with sharp objects ask for green & red stitching.
4) Have a wonderful weekend.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:
12/4 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers as she went to visit a man “M” in the hospital. He’s not a member of her congregation, but is a friend of a friend who was okay with her visiting. He has had one thing after another, and has been in and out of the hospital. Prayers for his healing would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
12/21 Update – Prayers are still needed for “M”. He is in really bad shape now and was released from the hospital because a family member was being very difficult. “M” has been in and out of the hospital since August.

12/5 – Jewells45 sent an update. She spent 5 hours seeing the doctor, waiting, getting the infusion of new drugs, waiting some more…. The news is a mixed bag: some improved, some stable, and some worsened, and new metastases in her lungs and ribcage. The pain is daily, but manageable for now. The good news was that it has not spread.
12/6 Update – Jewells is in tremendous pain since she started on the new drug treatment: headache, chest pain like a heart attack, joints... She can’t eat or function.
12/16 Update – Jewells says she is doing better. She saw the NP and addressed the issues she was having. They are going to tweak a few things next time. It will still probably be bad but hopefully not as bad. She will tough this out until the next CT scan. If she continues to feel as horrible as she did, then she will ask for other options. If there aren’t any, well…..

12/6 – SP sent thanks to God for the prayers answered for Lilibeth, who we prayed for 2 years ago. After months of surgeries and chemo, she was declared tumor free this past week. Thank you all!

12/6 – Vic posted that his computer broke, and he has been in the hospital for 2.5 months with another cancer diagnosis.
12/16 Update – Vic is home but pretty much confined to his recliner.

12/6 – Jordan61 posted and asked for “good vibes”. Her heart rate was going nuts and she was feeling some pressure in her chest so she went to the ER. She’d had one blood draw and was waiting for another to compare with – then she’d know whether she’d have to be admitted to the hospital.
12/9 Update – Jordan61 let me know that her tests at the ER showed no evidence of a heart attack. She will see her regular doctor for a referral to a cardiologist.

12/9 – Eromero asked for prayers for his friend Lauren, as her gall bladder had turned on her.
12/16 Update – Lauren made it through gall bladder removal. They just vacuum it right out. Almost routine except when the gall bladder is attached to someone you care for. Praise God for healing, tender mercies, and blessings all!

12/15 – Washington Nearsider requests prayers. After taking what he believes was a principled stand, he was removed from his job as a federal agent after nearly 20 years of service. Please pray that he can find sufficient employment before his savings are exhausted, and that he can find the grace to provide a joyful Christmas full of gratitude for his two young children.

12/15 – DaveT sent an update. He is the retired gentleman that we prayed for in Oct-Nov, who was going through legal battles to save his home, for himself and his cats. He did receive enough contributions to his GiveSendGo to file a response and counter-claim, and was successful! Thank you to everyone who contributed prayers and donations! He is proceeding with one more necessary battle, which requires $400+ in filing fees, so his GiveSendGo is still open. Please email Annie’s Stew for the link to it, if you wish to contribute.

12/16 – neverenoughcaffiene posted prayers for the day: Berserker lost his BIL; they buried him yesterday. Debby Doberman Schultz lost her brother yesterday. Hadrian and her majesty lost Delilah yesterday.

12/16 – Sugar Plum fairy requested prayers for the family and friends of Katie and Grace, two sisters who died in a horrible car accident on 12/15. They were beautiful happy girls and full of life. They are from a small town where everyone knows each other, and it is a huge blow for the entire town.

12/16 – Legally Sufficient asked for prayers for a dear friend who needs them ASAP. No details yet, but it seems to be a medical event.

12/16 – Kindltot asked for prayers for comfort for her sister-in-law, Lonie, whose husband died of pneumonia and cancer.

12/16 – Paisley13 asked for prayers. The first is for their trainer, going through her 3rd bout of cancer. She is one of a kind. She’s been in the hospital and prayers for her family and her, especially if this is her time to be called home. The second is for dear BIL going through the first rounds of chemo. He and sis have a positive attitude but know there are days where they could use an extra prayer.

12/16 – Jim (in kalifornia) could still use prayers. His wife is in the hospital for a routine procedure to put in liver stents. It didn’t go well. She is on antibiotics and unable to get her cancer treatments. Jim had an abdominal bug and had to go to the ER, but he’s better.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

Thank you Annie for your time and talents.

34 Amusing and rather pathetic little political drama in Israel yesterday. Former Israeli PM's Olmert and Barak both issued public statements calling on Netanyahu to call a unilateral cease fire and resign, leftist media outlets loved it.
The funny part is that these 2 men are the 2 greatest political failures in Israeli history - Olmert was sentenced to prison after his term in office, and Ehud Barak single-handedly destroyed the once powerful Labor party in Israel.
I strongly suspect that they got trotted out because the Left in Israel is starting to realize, with horror, that suddenly Bibi is more in control than he has ever been before - and every decision he's making is right.

Interesting topic, because just recently, I was talking with a retired LEO friend (not a Fed) who said he had worked with FIB agents for decades. He said he had seen the Bureau transformed from bring primarily composed of people of integrity that would arrest their own mothers (if they were involved in any criminal activity) to go-along-to-get-along agents willing to overlook/ignore corruption and criminal activity when done by the politically connected!
Sad, and scary!

The amount of $$ that can be moved. The account from which $$ would be drawn only allows a limited number of withdrawals per month, so one large move is needed rather than two small moves.

I have an excellent working arrangement with Citadel CU through our lapidary organization. They are not the source of my problem, although I will be visiting them today, too.

129 I'm (temporarily) back.

reading about my wife's symptoms, seems like she is going through liver failure: hyponatremia, edema, jaundice, and very elevated liver markers. At one point her skin and the whites of her eyes were so yellow it was scary. From the antibiotics the docs have given her, they believe bacterial in nature, but the tumors have also been squeezing the liver ducts closed, which precipitated things. We are in a bit of a catch-22 right now: she can't get chemo until her liver is healthy enough, but the tumors are also damaging her liver. We're due back at the center right after Christmas, with no idea of how long this stay will be this time (last one was supposed to be 3 days).

As for me, I'm STILL recoving from three days of vomiting and diarrhea. The vomiting and diarrhea are gone, but still getting my strength back and waiting for my bowels to start working again. I know, I'm never happy.

Our little girl cat didn't seem to recognize us when we came back. She hid and it too a while for her to get close again. I guess that's what happens when one is gone for 10+ days.

Well, that's the update. Please keep us in prayers; we really need them.

Mechanic side of me says stupidity in law is a built in, intentional flaw.
Have to tear it all apart, destroy disfunctional components, redesign and rebuild with bigger, better bearings and higher grade bolts.

It's the new kids who live in the moment, Generation YOLO like Reality Winner who think rules don't apply to them.

There are plenty of innovative ways to force people out, and the competent ones are the first to go. Look at the military - Gen X is not going to stick around until their 30th anniversary, it's 20-and-out across the board.

Washington Nearsider may well be in a position where he can technically keep the job, but it's just not worth it. As some know, I took early retirement from the Guard rather than take the jab.

And then got asked if I'd consider coming back when it was repealed.

217 God allows evil to flourish to call the faithful to repentance. We're also seeing a remarkable wave of famous, often very sinful people, publicly receiving baptism or returning to the faith of their childhood. This is no accident.

One of the greatest blessings I have received was the Covid shot mandate. It forced me to decide between career and faith, but God gave me an easy way to do the right thing by taking early retirement. It would have been a much harder decision with 19 years in, and I am profoundly grateful I was not in that position.

I think the weird liberal "Civil War 2.0" enthusiasts have no idea how many former military people are out there with some serious axes to grind - or how many people are still in and biding their time.

Most of the time, you won't see it that way- that is until you get through it and realize the peace and absolute joy that comes with knowing and following him. Your life instantly becomes better and any challenges seem easier to ensue. That's because you always know He is with you, or on the other side when it's done. He guides you. ______________

I doubt any politician knows who they're issuing a pardon to. Some administrative flunky with an agenda puts together a list of their preferred candidates and the politico goes with it. Someone should ask him what so-and-so did on the list to deserve a pardon.

The same holds true for legislation. Our elected officials have staffs that put together literally every piece of legislation. Ask one about bill 12345 or the "workplace encroachment act of 2023" and their eyes will glaze over.

Lindsey Graham was asked on live TV about the Digital Consumer Protection Commission Act that was more about censorship and racial justice than it was about "consumers." He had no clue what he was co-sponsoring (with Lizzy Warren of all people.)

IIRC went on to push it anyway...

248 I'm sorry I've been missing this thread. I'd intended to be here to address questions, but I'm unexpectedly spending this morning with my minions.

I didn't functionally quit, I was formally removed. My letter states that "Mr. [Nearsider], on multiple occasions, refused to follow the investigatory guidance of [the Deputy Director and the Director of my agency]."

A few months ago, I was tasked with putting my subordinate agents onto targets who all fell into one particular group, and refused, citing discrimination and targeting regulations. My attorney made a similar argument to MSPB which didn't bite. Insubordination is Insubordination, and as a supervisor, I undercut the chain of command.

My removal is effective a few days into January.

249 Good morning. Homemade sourdough toast with butter. Hot coffee. Yum

So I'm trying to figure out how you get a typo of 'whined' for 'whipped'. P and N keys aren't really close on a standard keyboard, so probably not a laptop. For texting, if you are using the one finger slide around on the QWERTY layout on a smart phone technique the autocorrect might miss the P and substitute 'whined' from the dictionary, being somewhat close to 'whipped' aphabeticaally.

Poll question- for texting, who uses the two thumb hunt and peck technique vs. one finger rapid swiping vs. voice-to-text? I use the one finger thing.

One point he made again and again: being in Congress is all about trading votes, so it is futile to analyze why your representative votes on any given legislation. Evil will try to steal all it can from you to make you waiver. It will attack your livelihood, your family, your shelter and your reputation. But it cannot and will never take your faithfulness to God and material truths- that is ultimately your greatest reward.

307 Washington nearsider, there is one more tactic that you and your lawyer can play. Become a whistleblower to Congress and the IG and you might consider going public which brings with it a liberty analysis by courts for wrongful termination.

Whistleblowers have certain statutory protections and the liberty interest if the 5th and 14th amendment protect people engaged in freedom of speech on a matter of public speech on a matter of policy importance.

Both of these efforts can make you toxic to the agency but can result in a court overturning a dismissal. Ask your attorney about the possibility of either if you think they might help your situation.
