Bill Clinton Lamented That Hillary Clinton's 2016 Campaign "Couldn't Sell P*ssy on a Troop Train"

Former President Bill Clinton privately criticized his wife Hillary's failed 2016 presidential campaign, complaining to a friend that it couldn't "sell p--y on a troop train," according to a new book.
The 42nd president's complaint was specifically aimed at the Hillary Clinton campaign's heavy use of identity politics -- attempting to paint Sen. Bernie Sanders' (I-Vt.) policies as sexist and racist in op-eds ghost-written by advocacy groups -- as the former secretary of state battled the socialist lawmaker for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"To the extent that the campaign tactic moved the needle at all, it likely pushed moderate voters paying only marginal attention to the campaign towards Sanders, who spoke like a normal person while Clinton began ascending into what her ally James Carville would later call, 'faculty lounge speak,'" journalist Ryan Grim writes in "The Squad: AOC and the Hope of a Political Revolution," which was released last week.
"Former President Bill Clinton, surveying the landscape and the ham-handed efforts at identity politics was bereft, lamenting to a longtime friend in the fall of 2016 that Hillary's campaign 'could not sell p--y on a troop train,'" Grim writes.

When asked by Christiane Amanpour in the same interview whether she believed she was a victim of misogyny, Clinton responded, "Yes, I do think it played a role ... [misogyny] is very much a part of the landscape politically, socially and economically."
Clinton is reportedly now helping President Biden with his 2024 re-election campaign, hosting a fundraiser for the incumbent at her Washington, DC, home last month, according to NBC News.

And oh boy, does it show!

Former President Donald Trump has the edge over President Joe Biden in seven crucial swing states in hypothetical match-ups with the 2024 general election less than a year away, according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll.
The poll, released on Thursday, shows Trump leading Biden in head-to-head races and in deeper fields in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. However, some of the advantages are within the margin of error.
Trump won six of these seven states in 2016, propelling him to the White House over Democrat Hillary Clinton, but in 2020, Biden carried six of these states in his victory over Trump. These states will decide the 2024 election, and Trump's early strength in them is cause for concern for Democrats and Biden, whose approval rating registers at historic lows in other recent polling.

I think Rasmussen is skewed too far to the Republican side, but it can still be valuable for showing directionality. And it's showing a big swing to Trump.

Voters over the past month have swung behind former President Donald Trump, wiping out President Joe Biden's 4-point lead to put the Republican on top by double digits.
In the latest Rasmussen Reports poll shared with Secrets, Trump now leads Biden by 10 points, 48%-38%.

Trump's surge revealed Biden's continued struggle with likely voters, especially independents and younger voters. He is now losing to Trump with younger voters and women. Among independents, Trump is beating Biden 53%-30%.

Rasmussen also tested a three-way race, with RFK Jr. included. RFKJr. draws mostly from Trump, but Trump still edges Biden by 8%, Rasmussen claims.

So she is accusing Democrat voters of misogyny. Because the results from all the swing states that Trump took by 1% or less in 2016 (MI, PA, WI) tell the same story: Clinton lost Democrat voters from Obama's 2012 total and those voters voted 3rd party instead. While Trump did not increase Romney's 2012 vote totals much at all.

So Hillary Clinton is calling Democrat voters misogynists. And women went 55-44-1 for Obama in 2012. Women went 54-41-5 for Hillary in 2012. Single women 67-31-2 for Obama. Single women 61-32-7 for Hillary.

So Hillary even lost the Democrats' largest voter base, single women, to third party candidates.

However, there is a section of the Republican electorate that is mad at Trump for covid in general, and RFK being the guy who always talks about covid vaccines being bullshit has an appeal.

Never mind that RFK is an actual fascist who just objects to the government being malicious and overpowered in the wrong way, it's largely a pressure valve on the electorate for discontented conservatives over covid. Whether they follow through on it or not (3rd party candidates have a long history of underperforming their poll numbers) is yet to be seen.

I don't remember ever reading those stories but my wife was a seriously underpaid Catholic school teacher back then but if her students needed paper or pencils she would have bought them herself, kept the receipts and we would have written the expense off as charitable contribution - without playing the sympathy card.

I've always found that insult interesting. "Boor" or "boorish."

It comes from Dutch, and the alternate spelling - if you go far enough south - is "Boer." Same word.

It means "farmer." "Boorishness" is simply being non-cosmopolitan - rural, a rube, agricultural, etc. The same thing that Hillary! meant when she described people as "deplorables."

It's a snooty urban class insult at its root, even though it usually means "crass" or "inelegant" or "uncouth" or "non-genteel" in its normal modern context. It's somewhat unusual in that it actually held on to a fairly similar meaning as its more ancient form.
