Big Christmas Pyes

Eating Christmas Pie at Mount Vernon was customary in the Washington household.

In 1786, George Washington described the holiday meal as "the Attack of Christmas Pyes." He elaborated, "We had one yesterday on which all the company (and pretty numerous it was) were hardly able to make an impression."⁣

Standing pies (pies that stand up without the aid of pie tins, moulds or hoops) required a tremendous amount of coordination and preparation amongst the enslaved cooks of Mansion House, at that time led by Hercules Posey. Given the poultry boning and other preliminary steps involved, it could take at least two days to put together.

You can plant your own, you know. 3 - 5 years you can start cutting. I have a bit of land that I am planning to do that since the damned things are so expensive. My wife has cheap friends that want them, and they want Nobles. I am happy with the douglas fir. The extras I can give to the BSA or the Elks when they get too big.

when I was a kid it was a point of pride to cut our own, usually wild types that hadn't been trimmed. They looked kind of scraggly to people who buy the commercially grown ones, but I loved them.

We always had a tradition of putting the tree on Christmas Eve. One year we all were so busy we forgot to get a tree so I went out into the woods on our property to find one. I found a gorgeous tree, perfect shape, and cut it down. Dragged it through the snow all the way home and felt like the conquering hero. Until my father rudely pointed out the tree was about 15 feet tall and wouldn't even fit lying down let alone standing up.

The top third of the tree still looked nice.

I am of the serious belief that Greta was a totem of sorts, put out there by the climate zealots, when she was still a child, and worshipped, not for her wisdom (of course not), but hinted at as an object to be cultivated and eventually deflowered.

Of course I don't know, but I suspect she was offered up to the highest bidder. Whichever oligarch paid whatever amount, he was given the "honor" of first dibs.

And the poor autistic girl, who is now an adult, has had to live with the warped upbringing she's suffered her whole life, having been used and abused, she's now a basket case of unimaginable proportions.

102 If you want to know what's going on with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's massive Koolau Ranch compound on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, there's no use asking anyone involved in its construction -- they're all bound by strict nondisclosure agreements.
According to an anonymous former contract employee who was willing to risk life and limb -- not really (?!?) -- to talk to Wired, "It's fight club. We don't talk about fight club." More ominously, he added, "Anything posted from here, they get wind of it right away."'

...

I missed this yesterday, but one of the folks consulting for Zuckerberg told me both that he was under an NDA and that he was working on this project. 110 If I were Antonin Scalia's English (or theology) professor I would mark up that quote of his with some suggested improvements to tighten it up.

1. God did not assume anything. He knew that Christians would be despised by, not "the wise of the world", but by the ungodly of the world. Those who hate Christianity are not wise. So either leave out the word 'wise' or put it in scare quotes or add the phrase 'so-called'.
2. Same thing with the ending sentence.
Have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated world.

It sounds (from the phrasing) as if Scalia is acknowledging that our "betters" are actually wise and sophisticated, neither of which are particularly evident.

One family I knew used to get sequoia trees, which I thought were spiky and unforgiving, there are always people who get spruce trees because of the shape, and dad cut a monterrey pine once, and it turned out that they will shed pollen in the winter when they warm up, and he found out that he was allergic to it.

152 RE: net in-migration to Israel

I think that's inspirational.

I read an interesting article at Powerline about net-outmigration from blue states. Bullet points:

1) In absolute terms, the numbers are tiny. For eg., CA had net population loss of 75000 so far this year. CA's total pop is appx 39 million.

2) More importantly, the people leaving the blue states (CA; NY; IL; & MN are suffering the greatest out-migration)) are disproportionately high income or upper middle class.

3) That is largely offset by new residents moving INTO these states, although not quite.

4) However, the people moving in don't have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of.

So, it LOOKS like it's no big deal that CA has been experiencing a net loss of 75000/yr, but that ignores the fact that CA is losing major taxpayers & gaining (almost but not quite) an equal number of penniless illegal immigrants & derelicts.

Low sodium diet though I didn't drain the juice out of the canned mushrooms. It's spinach! I knew there was something. The wife loves spinach. I tolerate it.

the folks who own the land next to my Ohio family place raise Alpacas. The young kids in our extended group love to walk over to their pasture every now and again for some views. Very different from what they're used to seeing.

192 Holiday News Dump, seems as if it's 'sweep under the rug holiday'.

Biden’s , (DHS) illegal immigration figures for November.
...more than 670,000 foreign nationals have been released into the U.S. interior through the “humanitarian parole” pipeline.

DHS officials privately told Congress this month that the Biden administration is releasing about 5,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior every day. That figure suggests that Biden is releasing about 150,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities every month and about two million annually.
