Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | GAINZZZ: The Legendary JourneyzzzThe Soybots at Vox say that you're eating too much protein and it's making you all toxic. ![]() So there you go. This isn't about human health at all; veganism is anti-human-health. It's only pro-animal-health. And while I am a great big softie when it comes to animals -- human health comes first, soyboy beta cucks and anti-human propagandists. LOL, the federal dietary guidelines are wrong about everything and also themselves distorted by demands from the vegetarian lobby. You're supposed to eat 6-11 servings of grains per day, plus 4-6 servings of vegetables! Also, the very low figure they cite, 50 grams of protein per day, is a minimum RDA. There are no known health risks for eating more, even much more, protein. People who aren't being bullied into appeasing Big Vegetable say that the figure is more like 0.8 g to 1g per pound of body weight, for people who aren't active and who aren't trying to gain muscle, and something like 1.2 grams per pound for more active people. Or more. Also, everyone processes protein less efficiently as they age so the older you are, the more you need. Oh shut the fuck up, Kenny Longstockings. Let's get to the real meat of it, huh? Excessive protein consumption is also wrecking the planet, with meat and dairy production accounting for upward of one-fifth of greenhouse gas emissions. And there you go. It's not about human health, it's about The Health of Our Fragile Ecosystem. Actually, Florida Dad, I believe the guidance was 6 to 11 servings of grain per day. The food chart had nothing to do with health; it was all about appeasing the various agribusiness corporations of Big Food.
Arturo Boremano (definitely NOT "Arthur Boreman")What a great time for this nonsense article to come out, because I'm pursuing a very high protein diet, and I feel better than I have in a while. I'm weight training and trying to get 1.2 or 1.5 grams of protein per pound. I'm drinking whey protein shakes every day, and every day I'm eating eggs and bacon and burgers. And honestly, I feel great. Not only am I gaining muscle, but my sinuses are mostly clear. (This might not be due to the extra protein per se but because, as I'm having a lot of meat and eggs, I'm reducing how much cheese and dairy I eat, and I know I'm lactose intolerant and I can guess that dairy causes inflammation of my mucous membranes, too. But I dunno... I am having whey protein powder and cassein.) Bonus: People get hungry and crave snacks when they're not getting enough nutrition, including, especially, protein. If you're getting a lot of protein, you have much less desire to eat crap. My sweet tooth has declined a lot. Anyway: Don't be a Kenny Torrella, guys. Don't ever be a Kenny Torrella. ![]() I guess it's too late to try a "Dry January" but if you want to cut alcohol consumption: reducing liquor consumption is more do-able than abstaining altogether. Every year thousands of people take part in the Dry January sobriety challenge to improve their health and regain control of their drinking. But if you can't commit to a full month of abstinence, take heart: You don't have to go cold turkey to improve your relationship with alcohol. A semi-dry ritual dubbed "Damp January" has become an annual event for people who want to cut back on alcohol without giving it up entirely. It's at times like this I wish I were Owen Wilson, so I could say Woww.

I remember when they rolled out that food pyramid in the nineties. I asked my 6th grade science teacher how it could be healthy to eat that much grains when we only had 3 meals a day. We tried to game it out - cereal and two slices of toast, 3, a sandwich at lunch, 2, pasta and bread for dinner, 3. We could only get to 8 without eating between meals...and that was a stretch. She basically ended up telling us to eat more veggies and less junk food.

My gainzzzzz took 18+ months; it’s been a long journey but I’m finally over the hump. 18+ months ago an orthopedic doc told me my running days were over; bone on bone in one of my knees. Depressing. But two surgeries later (including a partial knee replacement last year) I’m back to regular running without pain. It took tons of work and PT and a million times I despaired that I’d ever run regularly again. A million times I felt a little tweak or sensation and wondered: has the bionic knee failed? But it’s now been 4+ months of regular running (at least 3 times a week) and the knee feels better and better. Just solid with no pain; ain’t titanium great?! I’ll run 10 miles tomorrow morning…. On Joe Rogan's podcast, he and Taylor Sheridan talk about how the vegan diet is rife with animal deaths. You're slaughtering tons of animals to plant and harvest fields, and pollinate crops. All food production involves death; for vegans, it's a hidden genocide that they don't want to acknowledge so they can feel superior. Really great ep! High quality animal protein tends to be relatively expensive.
50 grams RDA isn’t enough. Something much, much closer to 100 grams. Particularly as people age. With the wrong nutrient mix, people tend to try to fill up on carbohydrate. Carbs are what are making people obese and cause metabolic syndrome diabetic. Carbs just cause blood sugar to roller coaster - leading to “hunger” - to eat more carbs! I drink. I like to drink. I drink by choice. But two times a year I take a three or four week break just to let things catch up a bit. And I certainly don't drink like in my younger days. I have enough aches and pains without der katzenjammer. Also, I like the commercials on TV promoting water when drinking. It's probably one of the better things to do. Take a drink, drink some water. And a little solid food doesn't hurt either.

What the Lewis and Clark expedition showed was how important fats are.
Protein and fat is required to live. There are no “essential carbohydrates”. The party was literally starving in the Bitterroot range, even though they were eating about 10 pounds of lean Elk or Venison a day. Artificial fats really took off during World War II, as food is fuel - methods of hydrogenating vegetable oils. Corn syrup - the “fructose” part is maybe half, and is only metabolized by the Liver. Unlike glucose, which can be utilized by almost every cell in the body. I expect they will find non-alcoholic fatty liver syndrome is either caused by or exacerbated by corn syrup. Obese people need to avoid fake foods in addition to cutting calories. Posted by: Common Tater at February 09, 2024 06:48 PM (sttDH) 261

250 It is well documented that the Corps of Discovery members were eating up to 10 pounds of venison or elk a day when available. Lean meats like that only have about 600 calories per pound but the protein content is high. Members got sick as hell when they first gorged on salmon. Plenty of calories and protein but all that oil hitting the system after a lean diet was bad juju.

It's really kind of telling that there's not been a concerted effort to tear down all that old-and-busted food pyramid propaganda. I mean really deconstruct it as the corn-lobby sales pitch that it was and replace it with something that makes sense from actual experts on the human body.

Sure, if you’re looking at it from a chemical standpoint. Some people think it’s healthier - because it doesn’t lead to blood sugar spikes. In any event what we’re concerned with is what our bodies do with it, not test tubes. Unlike glucose, fructose is only metabolized in the liver. The original RDA, which IIRC, was called the Minimum Daily Allowance, was a standard applied to guide the massive program of feeding the people of Europe after the war who would otherwise starve to death. The standard was based on the absolute minimum necessary that 90% of the population could survive on. My opinion is 1 gram of protein per body weight if you are trying to seriously build muscle and more if it’s for competition. Too much protein does make your kidneys work harder and you probably need to add in some Metamucil.
And if you have been taking antibiotics you need to replenish your flora and take some probiotics. Sometimes antibiotics can destroy enough that it could take up to a year or more to get it back to normal. Again just my non expert opinion. Oh and give up tomatoes. Specifically Cane sugar.
I don’t know why sugar made from Beets tastes different, maybe some people can tell the difference. My understanding is it is “cleaner”, for example the less expensive beet derived sugar will not work for making Cotton candy. Not really a factor for me, but I use cane sugar. Sodas and candies taste a lot better when made with sugar. Corn syrup doesn’t satisfy the “full” feeling according to some research, leading people to keep drinking more and more, to get sated or satisfied. I don't get GAINZZ like I should, but I haven't gotten much fatter since leaving my first job after college despite basically doing whatever I want all the time as only a single-and-disinterested engineer can. With all that talk of farmers walks and such, it occurs to me that I have a couple of idiosyncrasies that probably work in my favor despite not doing much "real" exercise.
1. I don't use shopping carts. Basket or carry those items leik real manz. 1a. I don't really optimize my grocery buying, which means a lot of wandering around the big box store carrying a badly overloaded basket, quickly maneuvering it around idiots parked in the aisles, etc. 2. About once an hour at work I'll stop what I'm doing and patrol the building for a little while. Helps clear my mind and find solutions to problems--which, as an engineer, is what they're paying me for anyway. 3. Aggressive fidgeting, to the point that I have to be careful to not shake the floor too much. Posted by: CppThis at February 09, 2024 07:19 PM (PZvjL) 371

Tomatoes have a lot of lectins . They have been confirmed they can cause small cuts in the digestive system resulting in a ‘leaky gut’ . As with a lot of food some feel effects more than others. I love tomatoes too.
Cliff Calvin trivia: long ago tomatoes were considered poisonous. Posted by: Naples Yellow at February 09, 2024 07:30 PM (MNhXM) Not so long ago, colonial times I think. I do find that termaters don't agree a bit if I eat a lot, but like lil ones cut in half with salt and pepper. Posted by: Oldcat at February 09, 2024 07:34 PM (eoQWY) 411

Depending on your ailment, and who you go to, therapies can differ widely. More often than not, “corrective” exercises are the first line of treatment. Posted by: browndog stretches out at February 09, 2024 07:35 PM (TTAGa) 412
>>Those of you who have physical therapy, did they do anything physical? I assumed when I went to physical therapy that they would manipulate my body in some way to make the pain go away. Instead they gave me exercises to do at home and more appts 2-3 weeks apart.
Typically, they give you the exercises and in the first 2-3 sessions, you do them aided with the Therapist and then they taper you off to doing it at home and down to just consulting. Tell them you are not getting the benefit you were hoping for and meke them work through the excercise with you so you can make sure you are using proper form...or some shit. I am old, out of shape, and have lots of old sports injuries.
Sometimes the doctor recommends PT, and it works. Sometimes, when it doesn't work, the diagnosis may have been wrong, and it will require surgery, etc. My doctor usually says, "Let's try this first." meaning she knows it is not a perfect diagnosis. If you have been diligent on your PT, maybe it is time to go back to the doctor? Posted by: Pillage Idiot at February 09, 2024 07:36 PM (HlyYF) 414
409 I buy roma tomatoes because of no waste. One makes for a good salad. They are now bred where you could play handball with one.

It is the adductive tendon on the inside of my thigh. My hip and knee are fine according to the PT guy. When I read up about it, it is a sport injury and can take a long time to heal and I made a mess of it walking 5-6 mi a day in Italy. But I am losing patience. Swimming is fine but as soon as I hit a mile of walking, I'm in pain again.

I would use a thigh compression wrap which will help speed up healing while also helping with the pain . Posted by: Naples Yellow at February 09, 2024 07:40 PM (MNhXM) 417
The PT guy did say something about needles. I saw the head guy first and the PT assistant the second time. She did have me go through the exercises and tweaked some things. Good to know that is typical procedure.

I have IBD and I went on the carnivore diet for a month. This might be too much information but this needs to be said:
I was having constant stomach pain and difficult bowel movements with mucus in my stool. After one month on the carnivore diet my stomach aches are limited to about half an hour before my bowel movements which are much less painful and no mucus. I apologize for this anecdotal statement, but this nonsense has to stop. My most recent bloodwork showed a slight increase in cholesterol levels but no appreciable difference and my triglycerides were normal. Having had several autoimmune issues including gout, I was concerned that a mostly red meat diet would exacerbate my conditions but I felt I had nothing to lose. I’m glad I took the risk. BTW, my biggest mistakes were not getting enough fat and salt Currently, I’m doing keto and trying my best to avoid any processed foods especially carbs. Super Bowl Sunday will be my cheat day with pizza! Posted by: Unkaren at February 09, 2024 07:43 PM (lrv8s) 420
406 I know it's late but I have a question. Those of you who have physical therapy, did they do anything physical? I assumed when I went to physical therapy that they would manipulate my body in some way to make the pain go away. Instead they gave me exercises to do at home and more appts 2-3 weeks apart.
My leg is better but I think it's just not vigorous walking that's made the difference. And it still hurts.been 5 months now. Posted by: Sharon(willow's apprentice) at February 09, 2024 07:31 PM I broke an arm a few years ago and had surgery to put a plate in and by the time the cast came off I could hardly move my fingers so had physical therapy. They did do some physical stuff - warming, massage, some skin lotion and exercises to stretch the ligaments enough so I could grip stuff, touch my fingers to the palm, that sort. Got a free carpal tunnel operation while he was in there. My sessions were more frequent than that but even when they ended I still had some pain so I started playing a computer game regularly that required more work on the fingers and wrist than normal typing. The swimming really seems to help as the side stroke and breast stroke kind of gently work that muscle and then I can use the jacuzzi and sauna so feel great afterwards. But the days I don't, I feel like a lump. I'm used to being outside in the fresh air and walking briskly to music. I miss it.

Agree that those types of injuries take a long time to heal.
Might consider going back to the doctor. Surprisingly, I have had some success on crap injuries like that, drinking lots of water. The other thing is getting the muscle that is putting tension on that tendon to fully relax. Only then has it started to heal! I am NOT a doctor, so these are NOT recommendations. Things that have worked for me - taking some really strong opiate based pain pills that I have left over from a surgery. (I always tell my wife, so she can monitor me for "drunkeness".) Getting that muscle to fully relax for just two days, has started the healing on injuries that did not heal for months. The other one is taking a very strong steroidal anti-inflammatory. I have done like three days of prednisone and also flipped the course of an injury. If those sound exceedingly stupid to your control of your own health care, then consult your doctor. Hot baths also work on some injuries. Sometimes the hot water increases inflammation. However, on some injuries, it will get your muscles to relax and get that tension off of the tendon. You might also experiment with that. Salud! Posted by: Pillage Idiot at February 09, 2024 07:52 PM (HlyYF) 432
I actually liked the PT assistant better than the PT. She spent a lot of time not only watching me do the exercises but answering questions.

Posted by: Sharon(willow's apprentice) at February 09, 2024 07:46 PM (t/2Uw) hmm, is it the impact of the steps or the speed you are walking now. If you were doing 5 times that in Italy with less issues (or you would have slowed down). I've had problems with wobble in the knees that have caused strain, maybe a knee support would help. I have been limiting the NSAIDs and other pain killers because I tend to get very dependent on them. Recently started just taking them when I get back from a walk and in pain. So maybe every couple,of days. It is better. I am pain free for a good part of the day now. It's just this nagging feeling that if I'm doing everything right, why isn't it better.

Sharon, I had what I thought was a groin injury which turned out to be a hip abductor. The therapist said the abductors kick in when the core isn't engaged--they try to replace it. If I'm careful to set my core before doing a squat, say, my abductors stay quiet. If I forget, they kick in with pain. Don't know if it applies to your injury, but FYI.

70% of the US soy crop is fed to animals—chickens, cows, pigs. That ends up as the meat you eat. Maybe 2% of soy ends up in foods you identify as vegan “soyboi” food, like tofu, soy milk, and other soy foods. Most of the rest ends up in foods you consume thinking you’re a carnivore/paleo/keto/Atkins eater.
43% of the corn crop is fed to animals that become your meat. About 2% is consumed by humans directly as food. Most of the rest is used for ethanol production. Meat is soy-based and corn-based. If you’re eating meat, you’re taking in a lot more soy than a dozen vegans do. Posted by: David at February 10, 2024 11:15 AM (CGDfo) 446

“Too much protein” sounds like one of those propaganda stories put out by “Big Sugar” back in the 70’s.
Besides telling you to reduce protein, they thought you should go “low fat” (fat is not processed in your body except to send it to your bowel) and raise your carbohydrates (which is turned into fat when processed with insulin). Posted by: SMOD at February 10, 2024 04:58 PM (RovqD) 448
You're "probably" eating too much protein.
That type of CYA wording means they're not willing to take any responsibility for their so-called evidence of this claim. Posted by: Andy at February 10, 2024 07:29 PM (RlUot) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0611 seconds. |
