Before we enter the world of current events and politics, does your toilet wobble? The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTM

A Rocking Toilet Could Be a Sign of a Much Bigger Problem
If the toilet's a-rockin' you may need a professional to come a-knockin'.

While sitting on a rocking chair is relaxing and soothing, sitting on a rocking toilet tends to have the opposite effect. As it turns out, making contact with the toilet seat while simultaneously feeling the entire porcelain fixture shift beneath you is not only unsettling—it could also be the sign of a much larger plumbing problem.

The new and improved Twitter X allows the "Beautiful People" to be addressed in terms they don't care for. Just ask Piers Morgan.

Fully Vaccinated and Boosted Piers Morgan Tests Positive for COVID-19 — Blames “Anti-Vaxx” for Catching the Virus

Far-left British television personality Piers Morgan has contracted COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated and receiving a booster shot two years ago.

The hypocritical host of “Uncensored” announced the news via Twitter, expressed his frustration, and blamed the ‘anti-vaccination’ community for his infection.

The 58-year-old host shared a photo of his positive lateral flow test on Twitter, along with a candid description of his condition: “as rough as a badger’s a***.”

Not only will Hillary Clinton never be the POTUS. Shelia Jackson Lee will never be Mayor of Houston. Ahh the good old Hillary Kiss of Death.

“She has been a champion for as long as I’ve known her, as long as she’s represented many of you in Congress,” Hillary Clinton said at a rally for Jackson Lee at the end of October. “We need her leadership, her advocacy, her grit, to get stuff done for the people of Houston.”

Ukraine needs cash. It might as well take all of the cash it can get from the evil Soros foundations.

Alexander Soros, 38, who took over as the head of operations for his father’s Open Society Foundations earlier this year, travelled to Kyiv on Saturday, meeting with First Lady Olena Zelenska and later joining President Zelensky to speak at a meeting concerning the thousands of Ukrainian children currently in Russian occupied territory.

During his trip, the Soros heir committed $1 million to First Lady Zelenska’s charity and announced a partnership with the Open Society Foundations.

Elon Musk is already looking forward to the next addition to Tesla's growing fleet of vehicles.

The Tesla CEO told automotive manufacturing expert Sandy Munro that the long-awaited $25,000 Tesla is nearing reality in an interview posted to YouTube following the Cybertruck's launch party.

28 There's only one faith carrying out public religious displays at this time of year that I can think of but I guess we'll, eventually, see:

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Montana police say a woman has been arrested after driving her vehicle several times at or through an unspecified religious group gathered on a sidewalk. One man was injured. Billings police say the 55-year-old woman was pulled over on Saturday a few hours after the episode. She was taken to jail on charges of felony assault, felony criminal mischief and driving under the influence. It's not known if she has a lawyer yet. Police haven't provided details on what kind of religious group was involved. They say the FBI is also reviewing the case. That suggests the agency is looking at whether it could be a bias-motivated crime.

53 So, it turns out that the President of Harvard plagiarized large portions of her dissertation.

When Gay was dean of the faculty of arts and sciences, she did her best to turn one of America's leading young economists, Roland Gerhard Fryer, into a pariah at Harvard, via trumped-up sexual harassment charges.

Gay hated Fryer for two reasons: one, he was black; and two, he was fairly conservative. (For example, Fryer did a study demonstrating that black people were not disproportionally shot by the cops.)

One little side effect of making diversity hires is that people who know damn well that they were only hired for the color of their skin are going to make sure that competent minorities are repressed.

73 The will of Ben Zusman, an Israeli fighter who was recently killed in battle, was made public today.

"I'm writing this message to you on the way to the base. If you're reading this, something must have happened to me. As you know me, there's probably no one happier than me right now. It wasn't just that I was on the verge of fulfilling my dream soon. I'm happy and grateful for the privilege of protecting Our beautiful country and for the people of Israel.

Even if something happens to me, I don't allow you to sink into sadness. I had the privilege of fulfilling my dream and vocation and you can be sure that I am looking down on you and smiling hugely. I will probably sit next to grandfather and we will bridge some gaps, everyone will tell about their experiences and what has changed between wars. Maybe we'll also talk a little politics, ask him what he thinks.

If, god forbid, you sit Shiv’a, make it a week of friends, family and fun. Let there be food, meat of course, beers, soft drinks, grains, tea and, of course, mother's cookies. Make jokes, hear stories, meet all my other friends you haven't seen yet. Walla? Jealous of you. I would like to sit there and see them all. (cont'd)

Another very, very important point. If God forbid I fall into captivity, alive or dead. I am not ready for one soldier or citizen to be harmed because of some deal for my release. I don't allow you not to conduct a campaign or struggle or anything like that. Not ready for terrorists to be released for me. in no way, shape or transaction. Don't mince my words please.

I'll say it again, I left home without even being called up to the reserves. I am full of pride and a sense of mission and I have always said that if I have to die I wish it would be in defense of others and the country. Jerusalem, I have placed guards on your walls, that one day will come and I will be one of them."

Years ago, my bro-in-law lost a car to a Chicago snow plow.

Parked on the street near a sign that said No Parking when snow is over 2". Less than 1" when they parked. Woke up next morning to something like 15". Their bug was just swept away. My one piece of advice: If it's an old open liqueur bottle, then toss it. Liqueurs don't last all that long after opening, unless possibly refrigerated.

As for liquors, whiskey, rum, vodka, etc., they should be fine. If cloudy and in doubt, throw it out.

I am neither a doctor nor a chemist, but I've read that 80-proof/40% liquor is shelf-stable forever, but lower concentrations could get critters in them over time. Stuff with sugar and cream added (Bailey's, etc) being the worst about it.

Whether the other stuff in the bottle keeps its taste or oxidizes into something gross, I wouldn't know. I guess you'd have to taste-test it.

Why job candidates are 'ghosting' employers like never before

Kerry Hannon
Kerry Hannon·Senior Columnist
Sat, Dec 9, 2023 at 10:10 AM EST6 min read

Payback is hell.

In a turn of the tables, job seekers are increasingly ghosting employers. That’s according to a new report by Indeed, the online job search platform.

Prospective employees who are in the middle of the hiring process and vanish without letting the employer know why think it’s “fair play,” according to Raj Mukherjee, executive vice president at Indeed. “It’s easy to see why, after years of having been ghosted by employers.”

In other words, they apply for jobs, or are interviewed, sometimes by multiple people, and then it’s radio silence.

Maybe you've been there or done that.

More than half of employers (57%) say ghosting had never happened to them prior to the past 12 months, according to the Indeed findings pulled from a survey of 4,500 job seekers and employers, each, in the US, the UK, and Canada.

Most companies "let you know" they are interested by just never contacting you again. So...its not a surprise that changes job seekers to act the same.

That being said, most industries are smaller then you might realize. Never piss someone off in your industry for no reason.

And in fact, I had a friend that got a job offer. When they did the background check they told him they were no longer interested. I asked my friend if he had any arrests or such and he said no. I asked him if he ever ghosted a company and he said he had. I asked him to go find the hiring manager from the company he ghosted and see if that guy was linked to the hiring manager at what would have been his new company. And...ding ding ding they knew each other.

The only inviolable NFL uniform regulations that I know of, for the past 40 years, are:

Names on the back of the jersey.

No Stickum or other foreign substance on the uniform or skin.

No skin visible at and below the waist. I see at least one Eagles player is in violation tonight with skin showing between the bottom of his pants and his socks. He must be ok with paying whatever the fine is.

I thought un-tucked jerseys were verboten and a player would be fined. That may no longer be the case. Or the fine is so small players don't care about it.

Raiders cornercack Lester "The Molester" Hays had more stickum on him than Biletnikoff or any other NFL player. IIRC, he was cited as another reason Stickum was banned. Opposing receivers must have complained. Or perhaps everyone in a group tackle or fumble scrum, on both teams, didn't like Lester's stickum all over themselves.

People and organizations get lazy and overconfident, even historically good ones.

Israel was equally surprised by the start of the 1973 war - just seven years after kicking the Arabs' asses in the Six Day War, they never dreamed that the Arabs would dare to go to war again, and that the Arabs would be initially successful.

There's a whole literature on "strategic surprise" - its easier to achieve than you might think.

311 I strongly suspect that in the end, their will not be blame apportioned for the failures on Oct 7, because there is simply too much blame to go around. From bits I can glean, there were multiple failure all up and down the chain of command. The IC community failures were terrible, and may have stemmed from an overreliance on Tech and a downplaying of Humint. Some of the most inexplicable where why the IDF took 12 hours, in some cases to calls that their own bases were under attack on the border. (because it was yom kippur and no one was answering phones? oh come on.)

anyway, usually when there is THAT much blame to go around, the country involved decides "oh let's not talk about that anymore."

a commission is definitely called for, we'll see if they will do it. Richard Fernandez (Wretchard) had some interesting thoughts a while back on the nature of the failure, which was that the biggest mistake was that both Israel, and the allies of Hamas, assumed that Hamas leadership was sane, They were not.

Israel assumed that Hamas would never launch an attack that was so big it would force Israel to destroy them utterly, because that would be crazy. Hamas' patron, Iran, assumed that Hamas would never launch an attack while making zero plans to defend their territory against an Israeli onslaught, because that would be insane.

Insanity is an incredibly hard thing to account for.

That Thomas Gold paper, I believe, has been pretty much debunked. The acid test for oil and gas formation theory is: can you pick a drill target, based on that theory, drill a well, and find commercial oil? So far, that test has not been accomplished. And it is understandably hard to get financing to drill wells when you gut tells you there is zero probability of success.

That could also read: "Whore Senators with daughters."

Accurate, either way.

470 Morning, insomaniacals! 'Tis 49 lovely chill degrees here. we never got the heavy rain the weather mavens warned of, at least not in my area, though it drizzled as the cooler air came in Yesterday was sunny and breezy and 58 -- ya know, the kinda weather we *should* have had in October.

I had a good part of the day free, as I'd done my grocery shopping on Saturday. Taking a chance, I ventured into the Walmart nearest me for the first time in years. That place seems to hire the stupidest employees in the metro area (and around here, that is really saying something). But I found the oil filter I was looking for, picked up a calendar of baby animal pictures for Miss Linda for Xmas, and checked out in good order. Amazin'.

473 I need to get a Christmas tree. Right now. Our first Christmas together, hubs and I were blissfully unaware of the need to purchase a tree. We decided to get one on December 22nd from a gas station parking lot, it was atrocious. Probably my favorite Christmas tree.

***
Morning, Debby! When I was a kid, we'd get a real tree about a week or so before Xmas from the gigantic local supermarket, the Walmart before there was a Walmart. We'd pick it out, I guess Dad had them rope it to the top of the car (I shudder to think what that did to his car's paint), and we'd set it up in the dining room and decorate it. By 12/28 it would be shedding needles -- but we had a tile floor, so it wasn't like needles in carpet.

The lights we had, I think, were the larger outdoor types, and if one bulb went out the entire string did too.

With cats, I really can't have a tree. Maybe next year, if I have a house where I coudl set the tree up in a room and keep the beasts out of it . . .

From WikiPee:

It is often called pasta fasul or pasta fazool in the New York Italian dialect, derived from its Neapolitan name, pasta e fasule.

Thank you. I had a feeling it was sort of Napoletano. In Italian proper (what we speak in Rome although the Toscani disagree) they are faggioli (faggiolo for just one but then who has just one bean).
