Disney-Distributed "Doctor Who" Is Now, Get This, Gay

David Tennant's doctor has previously been knocked by fans for being too heterosexual. Prior doctors tended to be like very old men -- not exactly asexual, but beyond the years of chasing women or developing crushes. But David Tennant's doctor made out with his female companions.

The pair crash land in England in 1666 and happen to come upon Isaac Newton. Scratch that. An apparent race swapped Isaac Newton. Update: The actor who plays Isaac Newton is Nathanial Curtis, who has an English mother and an Indian father.
Update: The ratings for the episode are a new low for David Tennant.

The Doctor and Donna then get back inside the Tardis where they crash inside a spaceship. As they walk down the corridor, Donna remarks, "Was it me or was Isaac Newton hot?"

Now before you think the Doctor now might be gay because of regenerating into the Jodie Whittaker Doctor who was thought to be gay, Donna says she always saw him that way.

Russell T. Davies, himself a gay man, just said that he hoped to change the culture by delivering The Message "calmly" to people... "when they're young."

The next Doctor will be played by a gay black man, and they're almost certainly working it in that the Doctor is already gay so if people object to the next Doctor being overtly gay, they can say, "Tennant already said the Doctor is gay!"

And the ratings?

A fresh low! The last episode, the trans propganda episode in which a woman and a transgender man pretending to be a girl knocked the Doctor as inferior, got 5.08 million viewers, which is very bad for a 60th anniversary special. Especially given that Doctor Who has been off the air for more than a year, and given the huge publicity surrounding the fact that the most popular Doctor ever was back.

This new episode got 4.83 million. People continue turning off and tuning out.

Disney's disasters aren't restricted to British sci-fi series, of course. This past weekend was an absolute embarrassment for Disney's woke content. Wish suffered a worse second-weekend drop than did any of its 2022 flops, and fell to fifth place, badly trailing a Beyonce concern movie that's only available in AMC theaters and the subtitled Japanese offering Godzilla Minus One. As well as being beaten by two other movies in their second weekend, Napoleon and the Hunger Games prequel.

Wish, Disney's new animated movie, has struggled at the box office, earning only $19.7 million in its opening weekend and premiering at No. 3 over Thanksgiving weekend.
In its second weekend, the movie is projected to earn an additional $7 million.
This total marks a 64% drop, worse than Strange World, which was last year's Thanksgiving release from Disney.

The Marvels is so embarrassing that Disney issued a press release stating that they would no longer even bother updating its box office takings. The Marvels fell completely out of the top ten, and is officially the worst performing MCU and even M-She-U movie, and Disney doesn't even want to tell you how little it's making.

There's nothing heroic about the final box office performance of "The Marvels." The superhero sequel is officially the lowest-grossing installment in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After four weeks on the big screen, the comic book tentpole is running out of steam with $80 million in North America and $197 million globally. There would typically be optimism that attendance could rebound over the busy holiday season, but Disney apparently doesn't expect that to be the case because it won't be reporting the film's weekend box office results any longer. The studio wrote on Sunday in a note to press, "With 'The Marvels' box office now winding down, we will stop weekend reporting of international/global grosses on this title."
The film isn't leaving theaters just yet, and the $220 million-plus budgeted tentpole is expected to play through New Year's. However, this memo signals that "The Marvels" is not expected to generate notable coinage during the rest of December. Over the weekend, the movie tumbled to 11th place on box office charts with just $2.4 million in its fourth [weekend] outing.

Why do you think that the unassailable American market is suddenly not unassailable? The domestic market in this country has never been particularly enthusiastic about foreign fare. Ours was just *better* at almost every point in the past. No need for it. Now, that has changed. Foreigners are making inroads now. The domestic product is shit and the audience ain't interested. Harder on that front. Any hobby with a central choke point - like a lot of the games and stuff like model-building - is susceptible to subversion and destruction. Some of that is underway.

They can bitch and moan and scream about stuff like hiking and fishing and camping, but those don't have centralized choke points and so they will be much, much less effective. They failed to demonize going to the gym, and they will likely fail on this front, too. When they need genuine support to make a change (instead of controlling a corporation or governing body), they haven't had much success. This doesn't mean they can't (try to) outlaw it or something along those lines, but that's what it will take.

But it's little solace in terms of normalcy. I'm reading Alice in Borderland as the English translation is published. One of the main characters is trans. It's less ideologically blatant or pushy than American entertainment, and Asia has always seemed a little fucked in the head in terms of sex/gender, but I think indoctrination of one kind or another will creep into a fair amount of foreign entertainment.

As far as I know, they faced a lot of obstacles with American distribution because of the split ownership of the Gozilla IP and the limited time window, so they had to go it alone and cut all their own deals. They self-distributed it in this country (unusual), which is one of the reasons its in comparatively few theaters and its run will be short.

But it's all profit out of the American market. It made money in Japan.

Since until this year the interest rate was pretty much zero, so there was no downside to borrowing money and getting some value back from a project, it was free money after all
The real value was in stock options, which the corporations spread around, and supported with borrowed money

taking a risk, taking a stand, being creative was all risky when all you had to do is pretend to not fail. It also meant that any loud minority could get you purged if you make too much of a wave, or caught focus, so everything is focused on reacting to the activists.

Nothing but meaningless, activist serving projects were made, and everything was a cover, a remake or a re-imaging because the studio heads knew it was propagandizing garbage, the only way they could get butts on seats was to cover it in a skinsuit of a formerly successful IP.

Toho is handling distribution. The movie cost 35 million to make and publicize (15 million to make the movie alone). Toho is gonna make a well-earned killing on this one.

206 Japanese movies in the past were mostly made for the Japanese market. The Godzilla movies were mostly made for the 6-16yo male Japanese market.
A lot of Japan is like that. The movies were very cheap, but reliable earners.

Some stuff has broken through but I think it was always too easy to make dreck, and too hard to translate, market, and build an audience overseas. Also, China had the developing country asian market with their subsidized propaganda crap, and Korea had Asian drama market. Japan had anime.

304 On the plus side, at least potentially,Taylor Sheridan has another series coming out "1944"
FX has a new series coming out "Shogun", which if it is any good has the potential to spin off the whole 400year timeline of follow on Clavell books. All tooo big for a "Movie", but ripe for a series or mini series. They shitcanned the original script/writer and handed the whole thing over to one of the key writers of Top-gun Maverick, Justin Marks.

305 I wonder if they use drawn butter? Had crab legs yesterday with drawn butter. So smooth. Three containers total. The other two containers held the foam in one and the solids in the other. So about 1/4rthd wasted.

Which is a transparently bad excuse.

Executives don't hang out on the set to 'supervise'. They read the script, script changes, and review the dailies.

The only reason to go to the actual set, in person, is to touch base with the senior production staff and/or if there's a *problem on the set* - ie, the director is behind schedule, over-budget, big picture (no pun intended) stuff like that.

I think it was here, on this site, where I read a retrospective of Peckinpah's carreer and the problems on Convoy - that's the sort of stuff that gets a suit on to location.
