Now I don't know this for sure, but U suspect something I've been seeing more and more in Texas elections: Houston is very split racially, with only 24% identifying as white (non-hispanic) 24% identify as white hispanic, and another 20% as other hispanic. Black, 22%
More and more, even in Democrat primaries, white hispanic voters are refusing to vote for any black candidates. It probably seems over simplistic to break this down into pure racial voting, but the Texas Democrat party has spent the last 30 years driving home the idea to its followers. Heh. The other day, I put my pickup into the ditch right in front of a friend's house. I backed out of his drive, and cut the wheel too soon, and wound up mostly on the shoulder of the dirt road. But it was all snow-covered, and hard to see that. When I drove ahead, I drifted down into the ditch. Gunned it, figuring I could climb up the next approach and get out without a stop. Didn't work. Approach was too steep, and I broke the plastic license plate holder off the front bumper. Alberta, so not used. No biggie. Backed up, took another shot at it, veering left a little, and the truck swung 90 degrees, front wheels on the road, back bumper on the ground, and the rear wheels doing zilch. Got it towed out by the other neighbor, also a friend, with buddy's tow strap. Much laughter at my expense.

One of my luckiest mistakes happened after a big ice storm here in Texas - we don't get ice much so it's always a big surprise. I needed to be somewhere for my job when it was still frozen, so I decided to chance, but came upon a spot where black ice blanketed a few hundred yards of road. Nobody else on the road because nobody else was dumb enough to try it. Wheel lost traction and the car went into a nice slow 360 while still traveling down the road - nothing I did had any effect. Finally went off the road, but as you say, luckily it was just a swale on the side, and then a little hill with a gentle slope. no trees, and a lot of grass that was now crunchy because of the ice. Easy to just get lined up again and drive away. (if there had been a tree there, or a dropoff of some kind....)

I'm having "fun" -- decided to do a clean install of Windows 11 Pro, just to play and get up to speed. I played with a virtual machine install just to figure out how to get back as close as possible to the old ways.
And then I've turned it loose on the bare metal of my main machine. Lots of stupid errors. Didn't like the USB port the flash drive was plugged into. Then, with all the drives and partitions I've got, it ran out of drive letters. I had to remember, on the fly how to pull up a command prompt from the install image and get to diskpart to fix that.
Now, it's going, and we'll see what it fucks up next.

The sales guy at KMS tools, where I bought this thing, was quite helpful. He told me he has personally owned and used a similar machine for several years, and has had no problems with it. King Industrial is based in Quebec, and is coy about from where the machine is imported, but the sales guy told me the mills from Grizzly and Littlemachine Company are virtually identical, and have common parts.

There is a wonderful tool called Rufus I used. It's a USB stick burner, creates bootable USB stick images. And it knows how to do clever little hacks to Windows images such as create a local user account right in the install image, and bypass the requirement to use a Microsoft Account.
It can do several other useful hacks as well.
