Two Climate Change Activists Dead After Gluing Themselves To Ark Of The Covenant

CAIRO — What was initially a startling archeological discovery quickly turned to tragedy today, as climate change activists arrived at the site of the newly discovered Ark of the Covenant, glued their hands to it, and were immediately struck down dead.

"It was obvious they had never read their Bibles," said Dr. James Corbin, lead archeologist on the team that made the historic discovery. "They were clearly very passionate about their beliefs and wanted to warn everyone that the world is on the brink of destruction due to climate change, but they really stepped in it when they picked the Ark as the priceless artifact to glue themselves to. Bad deal."

Last night's ONT covered housing for Americans 18-29..........

Tonight we look at: On the Brink: Halifax wheelchair user feels ‘trapped’ due to housing crunch

This is the second installment of a Global News series called ‘On The Brink,’ which profiles people who are struggling with the rising cost of living. In this story, two Halifax women talk about the challenges of finding an accessible place to live amid the worst housing crunch the province has seen in decades.

April Hubbard knows what it’s like to be on the brink.

A wheelchair user with a degenerative condition, Hubbard hasn’t left her 10th-floor Halifax apartment since March.

“My entire world is these four walls, and they feel smaller and smaller each day,” she said.

Hubbard, 38, has lived in her apartment building for five years. When she moved in, she had been looking for a home for six months and it was the only “semi-accessible” apartment she could find at an affordable price range.

But she said there have been a “lot of issues” with the building’s accessibility. There are only two elevators for the 22-storey building, which are prone to breaking down.

Ace Frehley says he's glad that Kiss’ farewell tour was finally done, accusing his former band of trying to mislead fans about his absence since 2002.

In an interview a few days before Kiss' road trip ended on Dec. 2, the guitarist said he’d spent many years having to explain to people that he was no longer a member – and claimed it was the result of a deliberate strategy on the part of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

What is the largest asset of Liz Cheney, her jowls or her ego?

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is considering a third-party presidential bid as she seeks to do "whatever it takes" to stop former President Trump from winning in 2024, she told the Washington Post in an interview published Tuesday.

Why it matters: Cheney, an outspoken critic of the former president, said that she "would not have contemplated a third-party run" several years ago, but now she thinks the stakes are too high.

I guess she hasn't followed current events and has never heard of Robert Kennedy.

I'm not sure why the artist was inking an individual under the influence. It can only lead to the following: Genius Award Winners!

Meet Max Alexander Krejckant.

The 33-year-old Floridian was arrested Saturday after he allegedly refused to pay for a $250 tattoo he received from the Ink Godz shop in St. Petersburg.

Krejckant was reportedly under the influence when he got the Waffle House logo tattooed on his right calf.

While the restaurant chain’s emblem is yellow and black, Krejckant’s tattoo--about five inches wide--was gray and black since he did not want to pay an additional $100 for yellow ink, said Ink Godz owner Neil Marcus.

When it came time to pay for the tattoo, Krejckant (seen at right) “refused all options to satisfy his debts,” cops reported. A police frisk of Krejckant turned up only “six dollars and a driver’s license in his bag and nothing on his person.”

Holy Santa Claus Batman!!!

A thousand Santas ditch the sleigh in favor of bikes in downtown Milwaukee

On a chilly Saturday morning, more than a thousand people donned Santa suits and cruised through the streets of Milwaukee for the Santa Cycle Rampage, an annual ride for holiday merry-making and cycling advocacy.

First-time rampager Mark Hense was part of a sea of festive red, and kicked things off with a shotski — a line of shot glasses glued to a ski, allowing for several people to down a shot in unison.

"I think once you get soaked up into an ocean of Santas, it's something that is to behold," said Hense, who lives in Wauwatosa, a Milwaukee suburb.

On Tuesday Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky unexpectedly canceled at the last minute a planned appearance via video link before US Senators mulling an emergency aid package containing over $60 billion for Kiev.

Why is it there are so many monarchs in history with the epithet "The Great" attached but you never see anyone labeled "The Reasonably Competent" or even something like "The Steady Handed"? Why all the focus on greatness as opposed to "okay-ness"?

93 Ah, the good ol' ONT. Much needed & appreciated after a long day that began at 3:30am!

Greetings, Hordelings, from deep inside the jungle of the medical world, where, thanks to ransomwarrers, they're still using the new-fangled pen-and-paper system instead of those silly, vulnerable electronics.

Good news is, MiladyJo is exercising her new hip. Just in time; hobbling into the hospital this morning, she came to a painful cold stop, rescued by a suddenly-appearing angel, Winter, who conjured up a wheelchair and blankets for her.

Her 8:30 surgery finally got started by 11, and by just past Noon, the wizards had fixed her up. She's still rough, but has been on her feet a little bit. A new chapter begins.

Thanks to ye Morons, and so many good friends & relations, for the good thoughts & prayers for her.

Now to see what MH has conjured up for us, then to get some sleep. Fortunarely, tomorrow... is a rest day.

110 Happily 20% of Ukraine is Putin's last territorial claim in Europe.

So, keep our money... until next time. Or let Putin put the Soviet Block back together, one smaller neighbor at a time.

The courage and sacrifice of the Ukrainian people is astonishing. They've recently crossed to the opposite river bank in Kherson & are holding it, too.

Russia expected to be in Kyiv in a month. Instead, by most estimates, Russian forces have suffered 300k casualties, and counting. And not one GI has died.

But let's abandon UKR in mid-war, because appeasing 1930s-style aggression always works out so well.

Johnson is holding up UKR aid to force Biden to make concessions on immigration & border issues, which makes sense to me. However, there is still a bipartisan majority in Congress in favor of continued aid to UKR.

168 Greetings! Checking back in because a commenter asked if I had ever been on a cruise and seen the Northern Lights. Yes, I have been an employee of a cruise outfit for many years (in the past, I'm now retired) and there are many things you can see out on the ocean far away from terra firma where man made lights obscure the firmament above. You have perfect viewing conditions for all kinds of phenomena. The ancient seafarers knew of all of them. For me, personally the strangest thing was a cruise of Nordkapp. Which is north of the arctic circle. There, in the summer, the sun never sets. It dips toward the horizon then rises again. This went on for 5 days. There is no night.

211 Woman 'Jamming Out' In Car Alone Prevents Stranger's Anxiety Attack

-
For a different jamming out story, I saw a true crime story about two couples who went out to a bar. After a certain number of libations, the girls went to the john (jill?). On the way back as they walked down a short passageway, they raised their arms and danced a few steps, maybe for two seconds. A rando walking by also raised his arms and stepped for a moment. Because of that, one of the girl's husband became so jealous he brutally stabbed her to death later that night. She had married him after he was released from prison for brutally stabbing his first wife, although she survived. She was so worried about his second wife, she sent her picture of herself all hooked to machines in the hospital.

Yeah, I am aware of the fanatical KISS fanbase. And as a money making enterprise, KISS was a genius move by Gene. I even happened to see them live once. Rock And Roll All Night is a very fine simple rock song, in the same class as Louie Louie. How Gene turned that into a lucrative 50 year career is beyond me. Gotta respect that he pulled it off though.

Not a well remembered man today, I think, but as far as I can tell he was the very first Ruler in history to say "all of my peoples can follow any religion they like, so long as they are loyal to the State." He really was the first man to say that. And enforce it.

397 Princess Auto has been in business for 90 years. They always have been big in selling "tech" to farmers. Welders, motors, hydraulics, etc. When WWII surplus hit the marketplace, they sold Jeeps, Weasels, and aircraft generators that you could make into a welder. When the milsurp market dried up, they started importing made-in-China tools and equipment, just like Harbor Freight. Now, just about any item Harbor Freight sells, Princess Auto also has...they are dealing with the same factories and brokers. Where Princess Auto differs is their large floor space devoted to surplus. Not so much milsurp, but manufacturer's surplus, and stock from closed-out retail stores, that sort of thing.

A reminder. An extremely rare occultation of Betelgeuse by an asteroid is going to occur on the night of Dec 11. It will be visible only in a very narrow band that happens to pass through the southern tip of Florida, centered somewhere below Miami. See here:

Even just less than 10 years, the error bars on that path would've been 100km or better. That's how good them high precision ephemerides have gotten of late, along with very precise position measurements of stars. You've got to know this to incredible precision to get that tiny path to this level of precision.

Anyway, near the center of that path, Betelgeuse will disappear from the sky for several seconds.

Heh. I would like that, LOL. You know, a lot of the stuff that is sold by Harbor Freight is almost good, just missing a few finishing touches. A couple months ago, Princess Auto had a sale (they have sales flyers every week or two) on a "200 pound firewood cart" made of powder-coated tubular steell with two pneumatic tired wheels. Regular price 59 dollars, this week only, 39 dollars. So I bought one, in a box. I said to the gal at the till, "I am going to cut this up, add a shelf, and make into a cart for my TIG welder." She said, "if it breaks then, you can't return it." And I said, "you think that matters to me?" She just smiled, and took my money.

I held off on playing it for quite a while but finally got around to it. It is literally just an update graphically to and continuation of Baldur's Gate 2- which came out in 2000. So, the thing we are lauding as being so revolutionary is merely the game design of the late 90s rpgs? Geez.

424 "Gender neutral toys", ha!

Oldest daughter at the tender age of 3 was quite miffed with me when shopping for a friend's son's birthday. She wanted to know why we weren't shopping in "The girls' section".

We had been very careful not to steer her toward more girl-oriented toys up until that point, but she had already decided which toys interested her, and it wasn't trucks or dinosaurs or sports equipment - if a box wasn't pink or purple, she didn't want anything to do with it!

Daughter #3 thrilled Mr. TiFW no end when she wanted to go with him to Home Depot when she was little. He came back quite dejected, because as soon as they walked in the door she wanted to go to "The girls' section". He had no idea what she was talking about - she wanted to go to where all of the appliances and cabinetry and pretty wallpaper was....😂😂😂

The "coordinated" business in UTC, Universal Time, Coordinated (French adjective order) came about in 1960 when the USNO and Royal Observatory, along with the NIST (then NBS) and the UK equivalent, began coordinating their time scales. 443 At my end point TWO passengers had lost their passports. How does that happen? Why do people not keep those on their person all the time? One was a totally panicked, crying woman tearing her belongings apart while a female cop shouted at her: "VEHR DO YOU SET!!??" And then, in (X-language to her colleagues), "This stupid bitch doesn't speak X-language or English!"
The cop was demanding from her, where her seat was on the plane so the staff could go look for her passport; I stopped and showed the woman my boarding pass stub indicating the seat number, which seemed to help the situation a little.
The other was a well-dressed Biznizman who had put his passport in his expensive coat, then stowed his coat in the overhead where apparently it fell out! What an idiot.

Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at December 06, 2023 02:51 AM (XeU6L)

454 I've had a very wide variety of landing experiences at this airport, all over the place. The runway is short, and takes some skill to bring it in. Also prone to strong crosswinds. Some pilots bring it down hot and depend on flaps and brakes to stop after landing it, some try to float down with varied results.
The craziest was an Air (X) pilot who, I am not making this up, slde-slipped an Airbus 320. He pointed the plane at what seemed like straight down, pulled up, pillowed air under the wings, then side-slipped out of it and delicately set the plane down practically motionless at the end of the runway, then taxied casually to the terminal.
I could not believe that one, he had to be military of some kind I find it hard to believe a civilian-trained pilot would try a literal stunt like that with a passenger jet.

Culture here tends to fatalism so nobody really freaked out. But yeah, that was... unnerving. The two Mongolian women next to me looked over and widened their eyes, then went back to sleep.

Bush Pilots out of Alaska and Western Canadian Provinces are proving to be the most able of the Civilian "feedstock" going into Commercial Air.

Graduates of Air Universities such as Embry Riddle do well, but for pure Airmanship, the Bush Pilot is going to win, every time. Except maybe, when up against Marine Air or Naval Aviators.

They land in zero-zero conditions, in howling winds, onto a carrier deck that might be heaving 40 ft. up or down in heavy seas. At night. In a blizzard.

THEY can fly any airliner I'm on, anytime. Just do please remind them that the 4 degree glideslope with no flare on landing, ain't conducive to Passenger Happiness when pushing their 737-800 over the threshold?

You also know you've got a skilled Pilot up front, when even in CAVU conditions, when the jet makes a procedure turn, and the liquid in your plastic cup or bottle doesn't even change it's level, in either the horizontal or vertical plane.

That's when you know that the Ball & Needle in the old fashoned Steam Guages are prefectly centered, in a fully Coordinated Turn.

Cabin crew ruins that fun soon after, when the take up all the cups and bottles, but, oh well!

490 I still think about hubby #1, and the special times we shared.

Found out a while back, that he'd passed away... just shy of 50 years old. Don't know what happened, there was no formal obit.

492 Retirement . . . Using the IRS's own online calculator, SS worksheet, and 1040 form, I did a rough back-of-the-envelope calc of what my Fed taxes would be like on SS and pension. If I did all of it right, I would owe . . . $24. Yes, twelve times two.

State taxes in Indiana and Kentucky would be higher than in Lousy-ana, but not terrible. South Dakota has no state income tax at all. None of the three taxes SS.

Nice. What a lovely memory!

The amazing thing to me now is that we were able to find a hotel room -- a Hilton way out in the suburbs -- on the Saturday night! Nowadays, I suspect, you'd need to make a reservation weeks if not months in advance.

494 Wolfus-- many states do not tax SS income. Just be careful, if you continue w*rking, as there's a limit before SS does become taxable.

Happy retirement anyway, when that time comes.

495 Nowadays, Wolfus, if one would like a *nice* hotel for M.G.--- need to book it a YEAR OR TWO in advance. It's cray cray!

No idea about Mrs. W. No. 1. She'd be only about 66 now. No. 2, I saw her pic on Farcebook about ten years ago, when she was 50. Apparently she hadn't been well and the pic reflected it.

Right, I'm in that now, and had to pay more than I expected last year. This year I've had $$ deducted from SS and should get some $$ back. Once I quit work, if I do work part-time I'll take that into consideration.

I'm seriously thinking of setting the date as either March 15 or the first Friday in April.

500 Former wives, husbands.

I plead complete ignorance of such.

However, I have been assured that my elder expenses are no worry.

501 LOL, Miklos.

Not that I really G.A.S. about either of my EXes since divorcing, but #1 was my high school sweetie. I care, but at the same time, I don't care... ???

More a morbid curiosity. He didn't have any congenital defect or inherited disorder that I'm aware of.

Even the big twin-jets looked like leaves floating on the breeze. On days like that, I was happy to keep the little 172 on the ground. Marvelous pilots.

504 I remember trying to explain in places where I was not good at the local language or dialect.

Sometimes just fingers, sometimes whatever tools were there in the village.

"This fits like this, you need both".

Laughter and more wine and palinka.

Old ways are best ways, mostly.

Yep, indeed.

The only jet that shrugged of that weather was the Airbus A-380.

And I wouldn't even drive to the airport in those conditions, much less roll a light single out of the hangar.

Hasta la nite nite, Horde!

506 Cold, is Winter

Grandmothers keep house warm, fresh bread.

Oven also keep house warm, so always fire.

Grandfathers bring wood.

Youngs must to keep warm as they can.

507 Miklos-- I could not find any report of car crash or violent acts, on or around the day EX1 passed. Weird. Will always wonder... His family hated me, so no contact since divorce.

509 More correctly:

EX1's family were welfare trash, and were extremely jealous of my stable, middle-class family.

Therefore, they hated us. All of us. Because we had a nice home in a nice area, while they were
'renters' who screwed one landlord after another, always spending more than they earned, getting evicted again and again.

510 "While the restaurant chain’s emblem is yellow and black, Krejckant’s tattoo--about five inches wide--was gray and black since he did not want to pay an additional $100 for yellow ink, said Ink Godz owner Neil Marcus."

He must have been really wasted. If his intention was to escape without paying for a tattoo he couldn't afford, he should have gone for the gusto and had the yellow ink. $100 isn't going to change the level of the crime.
