FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL: An 11-year-old girl was assigned to share a bed with a male student who identifies as a transgender girl while on a cross-country school trip, according to a demand letter sent Monday. That girl’s parents are now calling upon the public school system to provide answers and clarification of its policies related to children who identify as transgender. Represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, Joe and Serena Wailes are calling on the Colorado-based Jefferson County School Board and Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Tracy Dorland to clarify “whether JCPS will continue this practice of intentionally withholding information about rooming accommodations from parents like the Waileses, who object to their children rooming with a student of the opposite sex, regardless of the other student’s gender identity.” “This practice renders it impossible for these parents to make informed decisions about their children’s privacy, upbringing, and participation in school-sponsored programs,” reads the demand letter, which was exclusively provided to The Daily Signal. “Additionally, our clients request information related to JB R-1 and the ability to opt out of this rooming policy for all future school trips.” True, the following may be considered filler material. In November, Robert De Niro’s former assistant Graham Chase Robinson successfully sued the actor’s company for, among other things, De Niro asking her to scratch his back and rescue his dogs from an incipient fire, contacting her while she was at her grandma’s funeral, and calling her a bitch. De Niro’s company unsuccessfully countersued Robinson, arguing that she used the company card for personal Uber rides and watched too much Netflix on the clock. In an attempt to prove that the company-card argument held no water, Robinson’s lawyer pointed out that De Niro once asked Robinson to Uber him a “particular martini” from Nobu, the restaurant he co-owns, at 11 o’clock at night. Robinson had been dining at Nobu for her friend’s daughter’s 21st birthday when “Bob” called. “And I told him I was at Nobu, and he asked that I bring a martini to him after I finished dinner … He asked me to bring him a martini on my way home.” Robinson did and “met him downstairs,” ostensibly at one of his Manhattan residences, where “he was in his pajamas and slippers, and I handed him the martini in a plastic container.” The world’s first tampons for men have been criticised by feminist campaigners as an “insult” to women who suffer period discrimination. Nearly half of Americans age 18 to 29 are living with their parents
The trend to move back in with mom and dad is pushing up discretionary spending When young adults free up their budgets from daily necessities, they have more income that can be spent on discretionary items like travel, entertainment, and luxury goods. It's the parent's fault as much as the kid's. When my girls graduated from college, they were allowed to spend a year back at home saving money on rent so they could save up for grad school or a house, but they had to carry their share of the chores, and it was understood that if you were blowing lots of money on frivolities, the deal ended. You aren't doing your "kids" any favors by allowing them to defer adulthood. Posted by: Archimedes at December 04, 2023 10:20 PM (I/Qkd) 86

I've had some dreams that left me so sad when waking up - one was on an island, white sand and thick with palms of an unusual kind, long low white house there. And there was a wife who I didn't really know but we were friendly, and her father, and her boy who I adopted and loved. And it seemed like I was there for years; but then I started hearing a call saying I had to go soon, even though I didn't want to. And suddenly I realized that while they were still beautiful, all the trees and vegetation were a scarlet red, and the sky was an emerald green, and I knew that once I left, I wouldn't be able to get back. But I didn't have a choice.

It funny how each kid can be different while being raised by the same parents. We have six - two of them are very well off, three others are doing just fine, and one is a screw-up that pisses away every dime she earns. And she always will.
The only one that lived at home as an adult was the screw up. My wife eventually tossed her out after three/four chances to simply hold a job and pay us $100/mo rent. Nope. Interesting. Posted by: Tonypete at December 04, 2023 11:34 PM (IaTa3) 306

I look at it this way. You know those music reaction videos? Well, try explaining that you didn't just buy a song back then, usually you had to buy an album. When the minimum wage was around $2.30/hour, an album was around $4-5, one to two hours of labor before taxes. No one could buy all those hit/cool/favorite songs, although Lord we all tried. But gas was $.29 to $.39 a gallon. Five bucks would fill up my Sqauareback back then. Now? What, $40-50 to fill up, if it isn't an SUV? No, things are much more expensive over all. *can't call that era "the Gay Nineties" any longer; sad. Posted by: mnw at December 04, 2023 11:14 PM My mom and her siblings grew up on the family farm because her dad was the son who stayed home. My grandmother was kind of a bonus: she was raised a farm girl and a real hard worker. The only frictions were that grandfather had to pay out equally to his siblings when he inherited the farm, despite putting the most into it. And Grandma told her in-laws that the kids (Mom etc) were going to eat at the table during mealtimes, not make due with whatever was left when the adults and hired hands finished. And I'm rambling because I'm tired, but I think we're headed back to those days of multiple generations living together. Posted by: NaughtyPine at December 04, 2023 11:37 PM (YJlID) 314

A week after graduation from high school, I moved out of the house. I never got a dime from my parents after that, and that is the way we both wanted it. There was no expectation that I would move back in if times got tough, which they always were. I considered it to be my responsibility to move out and be on my own. As a matter of fact my parents changed the locks and I never had a key after that. No regrets.

What businesses actually pay $7.25 per hour? Around here lower paying jobs, like retail jobs start out at at least $16 per hour, and many are saying they start at $20.
Posted by: nerdygirl RickZ said "minimum wage," so the de jure wage is what I compared to. The de facto minimum wage probably is the $15 the democrats were Fighting For a while back. You're pointing out the same thing we were, though, from the other side of the equation. Nobody's going to work for minimum wage if minimum wage isn't keeping up with inflation. 10x the cost of gas (30+ cents to 3+ dollars) means 10x the wages ($2.30/hr to $20/hr, not to $7.25/hr.) And that worsens the inflation spiral, as well. Just like fuel costs add to the cost of everything, labor costs add to the cost of everything, too. If you want an affluent society, you need "stuff" to be inexpensive relative to wages. Energy most of all. Just raising wages to $5000/hr or $5 trillion/hr can't do it. There's probably something here about how "minimum wage jobs" 30+ years ago were something high-school kids did part-time, and now they're supposed to support independent adults full-time..... With minimum wage if they don't take it and have nothing they go on the dole and with EBTs and allotments they come out better than working. That's a problem. Posted by: Braenyard at December 05, 2023 12:49 AM (FQLP3) 396

As for the Dovonex, it's off-patent now but generic is still pricey w/o ins. (or with ZeroCare plan) so I deal with the psoriasis. It's ugly and itchy, but not life-threatening. Everything OTC here *stinks* of coal-tar and, well, does nothing but waste money. I have a few quarts of 20% coal-tar liquid, Rx, from when I tried something cheaper thru Dr... it stinks, it stings and it stains. Not interested in the current "biologic" shit they keep pushing on teevee. Cures everything from psoriasis to IBS ya know. Just pray you don't get TB or pneumonia due to weakened immune system... Posted by: JQ at December 05, 2023 03:10 AM (njWTi) Well the thing that sucked was they had moved to a nicer house down the shore area. Well, bigger anyway. It needed a complete remodel, so we did the whole place. Kinda what I'm going through now, because the common thread is we're retarded and upgraded as we got older instead of downsizing like normal people. My brother went through it, Dad did it, now I'm doing it. Anyway, my father did the kitchen and the 2 baths, I was there, and my brother was there too. We did an addition on the back, and one on the front to make a nice entrance foyer. It was a lot of work. We did it in stages, and it took 3 years. The frigging paint was barely dry and mom got sick. After all that she didn't even get to enjoy it. I think thats what really took the wind out of my father's sail. It was all for nothing.
