The first string of sound is bullets passing the US troops, followed by the firing string of sound from the MG-42. The bullets are at supersonic velocity, so the sound of them passing a point several hundred yards or more from the gun, arrives in a soldier's ear before the speed of sound sound from the gun does.
Those clips are from an Army WW2 training film I can't find on utoob right now, demonstrating this pair of sounds of passing bullets then the weapon firing, for US and German infantry weapons at various distances. Real world info the troops needed to estimate distance and direction to a weapon, and to get the erroneous Hollywood bang-immediate hit sound effect out of their minds.

Protecting him was always going to be a professional challenge for the BOP.
If an inmate isn't a disciplinary problem, the BOP will try to accommodate the degree of risk the inmate is willing to accept, to some extent.
In other words, "We evaluate your risk level in general population as high. Do you want to accept that risk? Or do you want to be placed voluntarily in more restrictive housing?"

The only place he could potentially be "safe" be in SC in a supermax prison, he's not a super-max level prisoner, so they ain't putting him there.
His days are numbered in prison, if he lasts a year I would be surprised.

Protecting an inmate's life is a BOP core competency, so they'll try to design a plan to safeguard him. He'll be safer in a fed prison than in a state lockup, but there is no foolproof way to protect him.
Incidentally, Chauvin COULD be housed at USP Florence ("supermax), but that's likely what Chauvin wants to avoid.

Epstein died at a Metropolitan Correctional Center. These house all levels of federal prisoners who are awaiting federal court appearances. Although administered by the BOP, MCCs are not federal prisons. Federal prisons/prison camps are organized according to risk level.
Also, Epstein is on the books as a suicide. Nobody knows what happened to him for sure. However the suicide watch he was supposed to be under was found to be grossly negligent. MCC Manhattan was closed, in large part because of Epstein's death. It may be re-opened at some point in the future.
I don't know what happened to Whitey Bulger or why. Too lazy to look it up.

I have known one Darleen in my life well, a local neighbor. Well, she spells it "Darlene". She is, how you say, a corn-fed redneck gal extraordinaire. And I say that with affection. She come from a long line of corn-fed redneck gals. Her Mama passed away a few weeks ago, same month as my Daddy.
In her heyday, that gal could bellow like you wouldn't believe, and I'm just laughing thinking what she would've done when confronted with some silly soiboi type what irked her.

Once, I was in middle school, waiting for the school bus, I was in ear-shot of a country store Darlene's Mama and Grandmama ran. I will never forget. Darlen's Grandmama had a grandson named Rodney through her youngest son, known as "Sweet Pea". His car, Sweet Pea's old Ranchero, needed some gas.
Rodney, rather than pulling straight in, shortest path to the gas pump, did a little turn around so he'd be facing in the opposite direction. That Ranchero ran out of gas right then, before he got to the pump. And on a little hill....

Another funny one, Darlene's late Mama at the same store. A feller pulled in and filled his F-whatever pickup, '70s model with gas. He had one of those gas caps with a chain on it. You remember the '70s model Ford pickups with the gas filler right at the rear of the cab on the outside.

TY, just checked on her, still breathing. She has dementia so wanders from room to room lately. She's in the next room w/ a puke towel under her head and I just gave her a bowl w/ a bit of broth. She didn't react but if she wakes up she may enjoy it.

Old Man David has long since crossed the River Jordan.
His sons are old men. One of Old Man David's sons married a woman of breeding and wealth herself from up North, what he met in college. I went to Clempson with one of the sons of that union.
Junior there was another good ole boy. But that's what Old Man David, dirt poor to riches pulled off. Married one of his sons to an heiress of sorts.

I do believe that philosophy is directly related to how close you are to your farming roots. All of my 4 grandparents were raised by parents that had farm upbringing. Not sure many could say that today.
Took over my paternal grandparents farm when he died, I had no experience my folks having moved to the nearby big city. After farming for Grandma as a renter for 32 yrs, she died at 103. They sold the farm after a couple of yrs and what I cleaned out before the sale was epic.
Almost 100 yrs of stuff that had been tucked away in corners over ca 100 yrs.
