First-World Problems...

front door latch.jpg

Oh hell.

It still works, which is odd to me, because the latch shaft operating the lock seems to be broken. I guess it is possible that there is some support screw that has sheared. But locks and I have an agreement. I don't f*ck with them, and they don't f*ck with me. I tend to over-tighten and misalign stuff when I dip into lock sets. Then it becomes an irritating and frustrating series of disassembly-reassembly until I get it right.

Luckily, Baldwin locks warranties their stuff forever, so I will be having a chat with their customer service folks on Monday morning.

Damn...I can't even get pissed off about this!

Below the fold is why I was outside in the first place.

24 I had a front door latch with maybe the same problem a few months ago. You had to press it just right to get the door to open and eventually it wouldn't open at all. The wife and I stopped exchanging Christmas gifts years ago. I buy her stuff all year 'round. Same for her with me. But she does love decorating an actual tree that smells good with all the ornaments an early ed teacher receives in 30 plus years of teaching.

She can pick up an ornament and tell me who gave it to her, even if it was decades before. "Oh, Tommy Smith gave this to me. I taught his sister Beth, too. Nice family her Dad, Tom Sr and Mom, Anne were a little concerned with his behavior."

It's actually a little scary how she remembers names. I can't remember anyone's name, so I bluff it a lot.

91 Eromero--

Husband lost his favorite knife earlier this year. He figured he dropped it at the county recycling center and it was gone. About three months after it disappeared, I found it behind the storage ottoman at the foot of our bed. He sometimes puts his pants on that ottoman and apparently the knife fell out.

95 I'm in the sticks so this delivery signature thing is weird. I think it might be because there are some sketchy areas, but where I am it's not sketchy at all. Regardless, the drivers are probably told to get a sig, so they get one everywhere.

And it's not consistent. Sometimes I sign, sometimes I don't have to. The last Amazon shipment had a Streamlight TLR-7A for a handgun in it. $100+ No signature.

Home has no heat here. Actually, the east and west side of the house do. But the center of the house we let the sun heat, or not heat. So it stays around the mid 50's and above all winter. We buy a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving for the center of the house and it's still in really good shape after the Epiphany. Just crank the heat occasionally.

Some people park a cut tree in front of a forced air heat register blowing 100 plus degree air on it all day and night then wonder why it dries out in a week or two.

170 Could the side bar ads get MORE f'ing disgusting here? I hope it's worth it for ACE or whoever is cashing the checks. It's all worthless crap, too. I can't even stand looking at the splash page.

Late to the party, but Brave browser blocks all but King Harv, who is OK in my book.

172 Another FWP--

Decided to do the Christmas lights anyway, damn the cold.

173 When I did Cable you would not even believe how many times I was easily able to find front door keys in the most obvious places. I made it a hobby.

174 Here is a WAPO article masquerading as something called: https://princessfreezone.com/ - "It’s “Ok for Trump to Pressure a Witness!” Says Former President’s Legal Team" - gasps the article authors...

who seem to write for Princess Free Zone which is supposed to be about women who ride motorcycles but it's really just the same idiots that publish Raw Story, Business Insider, Altenet, MeidasTouch Network, etc - ie cubicle 5 located in the downtown DC WAPO offices. So, nothing really about women or riding - just lefty men manbun types writing lefty weirdo stuff.

"In a surprising stance, Trump’s lawyers argued that the ex-President should be free to influence witnesses."

Yeah no, the prosecution is allowed to pressure witnesses to tell the truth, the defense is allowed to do this to. The people writing here for WAPO are legally illiterate.

Burglars know to look in obvious places. They toss everything. If it's not removable and you can't toss it out on the floor, it's a problem. They'll just rip everything off shelves and dump it. It's a speed issue. They'll target a specific place for valuables, etc. but they're not going to steal artwork, books, aesthetic stuff. Whatever can be sold to a pawnshop or a homie is what they will steal for an immediate profit.

176 It's why I said a while ago, if you own guns you care about, get a nice gun safe, secure it in an obvious place, then put your guns somewhere else.

No sh!t...

Dad's place got hit last winter. What a freaking mess...

178 They broke the latch on old aluminum frame window. Had obviously been poking around for a hide-a-key and *found one* that I hadn't known about...

Didn't do it/them any good, as I'd rekeyed the house after Dad passed.

179 176> Interesting. I never understood a friend of mine( no kids) locking up her guns so securely and out of reach so that she would have no chance of protecting herself.
