I wasn't so far off about his starting at twelve:
"In 1515 [when Parmigianino was indeed twelve], his uncle received a commission from Nicolò Zangrandi for the decoration of a chapel in San Giovanni Evangelista; a work later completed by a young Parmigianino. By the age of eighteen, he had already completed the Bardi Altarpiece." You had to start early in them days. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at November 28, 2023 09:37 AM (J2vNu) 54

This portrait is intriguing. Parmigianino shows a happy, or at least satisfied, woman living in riches and comfort. She appears healthy with that alabaster skin. She is dressed in expensive clothing which is arranged in a fashionable manner. I'm guessing she is a courtesan. Her expression is beguiling and playful. The hint of a smile reminds me of the Mona Lisa. The contrast of the title and the image is effective and subtle.
I wonder if her elongated fingers are meant to imply something to the viewer (an inside joke?) or if it is some error by the artist. Given Parmigianino's obvious talent, realistic style and brilliant colors, the fingers strike an odd note. Posted by: JTB at November 28, 2023 09:45 AM (7EjX1) 110

Fake news!!!!
Turkish Slave (Portrait of a Young Woman; Italian: Schiava turca) is a painting by the Italian Mannerist artist Parmigianino, executed around 1533. It is housed in the Galleria nazionale di Parma, northern Italy. The title of "Turkish Slave" derives from the misinterpretation of the sitter's headwear as a turban. It is in fact a typical headdress of noblewomen of the time called a balzo, with examples appearing in numerous contemporary portraits. She is wearing a chemise under her elaborately sleeved dress called a guimp and is holding a feather fan used as a flywhisk. ------- I was wondering about Pegasus on the hat although there are a bunch of other winged horses myths too even in India. I seem to recall that Mohammed was inspired at the very beginning by Judaism's concept of one single almighty God, and early on invited the Jews to join his jihad. The Jews declined -- politely or not, I'm not sure -- and Mo and his followers hate them to this very day.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius I recall reading that he originally wanted the direction of prayer to be toward Jerusalem. But then the Jews rebufffed him, so he had a change of plans. There also is supposedly an early Islamic coin depicting Mo with a cross. So the guy was just ripping off religious ideas right and left, and got all butthurt when the Jews and Christians wouldn't go along with his death cult. A Chinese military scientist who was reportedly thrown to his death from the roof of a Wuhan institute is at the centre of mounting evidence that the Covid pandemic resulted from a lab leak. Intelligence obtained by members of the US Senate reveals that Zhou Yusen filed a patent for a Covid-19 vaccine on February 24, 2020, barely a month after China put Wuhan into lockdown because of the outbreak. US vaccine developers told investigators that it would have been impossible to have generated the data cited in the patent so swiftly.

In addition to what CBD said, city councils and other Western government institutions are going to be pressured, protested/threatened into discussing this war. As mentioned in the EMT, Denver city council ended meeting last night early because most (the entire) roster of scheduled citizen speakers were anti-Israel activists. The clip on the news showed a crazy campus activist speaking while a soccer mom in the seat behind her was wearing a "From the River, to the Sea" emblazoned T.
