Thanksgiving Eve Cafe

Rasta the White Shepherd

taken in Switzerland by @michaelphotographych

The Chinese are really kicking our ass in drone and kite technology.

Inspiring. There are two kinds of obstacles in the world: Obstacles that can be overcome by just saying "GUN IT!" and smashing down the accelerator, and obstacles which are gay and stupid and not worth overcoming anyway.

A demonstration of the stages of four-color printing, with yellow, magenta, cyan, and black.

Elephants crossing a shallow lake in Zimbabwe.

Courtin' a gal, Texas-style.

Stray dog is so happy that a human is bringing him food he doesn't quite know what to do.

Snitches get skritches (ideally).

ICYMI: Furring Line.

Antarctic snow-bats see the snow for the first time.

Yet, Israel stopped. Now they have to build up all the momentum, again, from a stop.

Shall we revisit the discussion from yesterday, about why giving your opponent what they want is typically a bad idea, unless your opponent is a complete retard ? And if you're negotiating, they're not retards by definition ?

If I had the time - that would be my dog. Or two dogs. I've handled Belgians, they are simply something else. A great size dog, and so Damn smart.

But that's the problem. We don't have the time. We stick with Beagles and such, from the shelter. One of us is home every day, but still, Belgians take daily work for a few hours.

2 cats here, both inside cats that can be set off by crazy animal noises

First one is highly protective of the house - any creature that comes to the windows is met with aggression that can lead to him attacking the other one when she comes to check things out

Second is very protective of my wife, she immediately suspects that any crazy noise is the other cat attacking the wife - immediate attack on the poor guy

They don’t really harm each other, but the tension is palpable for some time after an event

67 I guess I'm baking a ham tomorrow. Had bought one a few weeks ago. Neighbors have often invited us to their T-day meal lately but they'd planned to go east for the week this year and spend t-day with relatives, leaving the 19th. So I figured, yes I will cook the ham on T-day for me and dad and do ham gravy and mashed taters and something. Not going to get too fussed, dad has had erratic appetite lately.

Neighbor's travel plans got scuttled, they instead dug up all the lines to their outdoor hydrants this weekend, searching for a leak cuz their well has been running dry lately. Ugh for them even with their friend coming over with the skid steer with excavation attachment to help.

94 Howdy, all,

Tomorrow Miss Linda and I are off to a downtown restaurant in the neighborhood (now a major tourist trap) where I grew up. They have a T-giving menu, but also a limited edition of their regular fare. I'm hoping I can get some shrimp or fish. A turkey dinner is nowhere as much fun as good seafood.

Friday? Dunno. For sure I don't want to go near any place with Black Friday sales. One of the PetSmart stores nearby has a kitten for adoption; we suspect it's the little black one Linda rescued almost a month ago. There's no pic on the SPCA site. But she's 2 months old and the "intake date" matches. Maybe we'll go by and say hello!

105 Dutch election results are very optimistic, but the Netherlands has such a fractured political system that it's hard to predict a final government. There are 150 delegates in their Parliament; Wilders party previously held 17 seats, now it looks like they will hold 35, more than any other party. Next biggest is a Green coalition with 26 seats. Someone will have to find a way to get to 75 to form a coalition government. So far, one centrist party with 20 seats has said they're willing to talk about a coaltion with Wilders, so that would get him up to 55 seats.

I have plenty of fixin's for thank you cocktails. I was thinking about a short road trip, book a room, hit a casino for blackjack and buffet, but a lot of the casinos are going to be closed or on limited hours for the holiday. This is good, giving people time with their family. Also indicative of the economy going downhill as casinos used to close only in the event of thermonuclear warfare.

It snowed here last night, was still snowing this morning; let up about 11:00. I had a visitor who came from out east of here. He said he saw several semis jackknifed in the ditch. I ran my snowblower, cleared the driveway, and much of the yard. Went for chicken wings in Elnora a while ago. The highway northbound was bare and dry...up to a mile from the Elnora corner. Then glare ice. There was a Ford van in the ditch, upright, lights on, and running, but stuck good. Coming back, the southbound lane of the highway was mostly ice. I drove slowly.

Ecuador, El Salvador, and Panama have essentially dollarized themselves, and it's working.

However, if he can pull this off in Argentina, I don't know. He needs to get dollars, or enforce a hard peg of the peso to the dollar. Both of those have drawbacks. And he's going to have a lot of opposition from the shit-lib-tards trying to sabotage.

How was the euro implemented? (Rhetorical question) It's easier than you think. (Though I don't recommend doing it, personally.)
Also, Zimbabwe has the U.S. dollar as its currency for awhile. That happens when hyperinflation gets to the point where prices double every 16 hours and your original currency was destroyed because your economy no longer produced goods or services yet kept lavishing money on government.

Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at November 22, 2023 09:24 PM (8sMut)

Until Lincoln needed the extra money to run the Union army, all banking in the US was based on the banks themselves, they were only subject to state laws by the states that licensed them. Due to the need to force banks to accept federal greenbacks, Lincoln set up federal licensing and put a tax on the banks that did not accept his fiat. This by the way is why there is both state and federal chartered banks to this day. The banks were pulled under the Fed during FDR

The Scottish banking system was another free banking system that survived until it was regulated into the Bank of England due to a money crunch that the BOE was having.

Just because everyone does something does not mean it is good, useful, or the best thing ever. I mean, bell bottom jeans? That was faggy to even think about

Most of the history of banking is around private banks, all central banks steal, they create fiat monies and are required for the state to run those things that they want to fund than noone wants to pay for.

Posted by: Kindltot at November 22, 2023 10:02 PM (D7oie)

239 Further, Private banks must attract depositors by paying good rates, and Central Banks can raise money by printing unbacked dollars to create inflation, issue and back bonds and then force the prime rate low so they can be repaid, and exclude private banks and lenders from participating if they don't play along

In short, central banks write bad checks, kite those bad checks, and break your legs if you complain about getting valueless IOUs from your made competitors
Central banks are the Mafia with bankers' hours.
