Gun Thread: November 19th Pre-Thanksgiving Edition!

111923 banner scaled.jpg

Howdy, Y'all! Welcome to the wondrously fabulous Gun Thread! As always, I want to thank all of our regulars for being here week in and week out, and also offer a bigly Gun Thread welcome to any newcomers who may be joining us tonight. Howdy and thank you for stopping by! I hope you find our wacky conversation on the subject of guns 'n shooting both enjoyable and informative. You are always welcome to lurk in the shadows of shame, but I'd like to invite you to jump into the conversation, say howdy, and tell us what kind of shooting you like to do!

Holy November Shitballs! How in the ever-loving Hell did it get to be November 19th? Seriously! Why, it seems just the other day it was the day after Veterans Day!

With that, step into the dojo and let's get to the gun stuff below, shall we?

So with November comes Thanksgiving, the uniquely American holiday where we celebrate the warmth, joy and brotherhood of capitalism by standing in line all night for a chance to buy a $9 flat-screen TV. I don't know about all y'all, but this time of year my email inbox positively resonates with offers from every single online entity I have ever done business with, and many I haven't, trying to get their share of my dinero.

Having said that, this does present an opportunity for those who plan ahead and like to save a few bucks. Do you have a guns 'n shootin' shopping list for items you want? How about for gifts? Why not share the details in the comments tonight to help the other shoppers out there looking for ideas. Here is a shooter's handy holiday shopping gift guide from our pals at Midsouth Shooters Supply

This is a busy time of year for your ol' pal Weasel, mostly having to do with work, which has the annoying consequence of interfering with my organic tree farming activities. Since the John C. Garand Rifle Range is located at WeaselAcres, it also interferes with my shooting time, too. How do all y'all manage your range time? Is it a priority - something to be done no matter what - or is it something you consider only after all your other stuff is done? When I was competing, shooting and match preparedness was job numbero one-o. Shooting came first and everything else was secondary. That's a bigly part of the reason I am no longer shooting competitively, as it represented a ridiculous time commitment. Shooting recreationally is a bit different though. Depending on travel, it can take as little as an hour of your time to squeeze in a practice session. How often are you going to the range, and what sort of things keep you from going as often as you like?

Guns of the Weasel
I needed some quick content so here are a couple of Gun Thread S&W re-runs. I bet no one will notice!

111923 686 ls scaled.jpg

This is a gun I inherited from my father, a Smith and Wesson Model 686-4 purchased in 1995. We were able to take it shooting a couple of times and I very fondly recall those trips. My dad wasn't a big shooter, and this handgun was a "spite" purchase in response to a politician who annoyed him by, among other things, pushing gun control back in the day. Gotta love my dad! Spite purchases can be some of the best and most rewarding, don't you think?

111923 686 rs scaled.jpg

Please tell us about your dad and any shooting you might have done together. Did he teach you how to shoot? More importantly, are you teaching your son or daughter how to shoot?

Smith & Wesson Model 64
Back to Smith & Wesson revolvers this week, we have a nice example of the Model 64 snubby from the WeaselCollection. This is pretty much a baby with a manufacture date in the 1980s and is the gun I have in mind when thinking of a revolver for concealed carry.

M64 1 111923 scaled.jpg

M64 2 111923 scaled.jpg

Even with the short 1 7/8th inch barrel, I think it's plenty accurate as long as I'm on my game.

It's hard to tell from the video, but I'm about 7 yards from the target. Obviously, I'm concentrating on creating a small group and not in some sort of high stress self-defense situation, but I think it shows what the snubby revolver is capable of.

What about you all? Anyone carry a concealed revolver? If so, what made you decide to do so?

Stop the Presses!!

Our pal Blake has attended his very first 1,000-yard match! Congratulations Blake!

Saturday was the day of my first 1,000-yard match. I took my trusty Savage Axis II, complete with Magpul bipod and Vortex scope to the firing line to shoot a distance I really have no experience with. What could possibly go wrong? However, I was up front about being new to this and the people involved with the match were patient enough to work with me so I could compete. I was shooting Hornady Match 168 grain ELD loads. I plan to load my own ammo for this match next year.

I started off working the rifle pit, which felt a bit like home, as I'd worked the rifle pit before in High Power matches. This match, however, was much more relaxed, because it was not a timed event. Which meant no pressure on the shooter or the people running the target in the pit.

After the pit, I headed back to the firing line to observe people setting up and going through their various routines before shooting. They all put 3 rounds downrange as sighters then shot 10 rounds for score. It was unreal how many of the shooters were inside the 10 and X ring at 1,000 yards.

I was in the last group to shoot and one of the guys was nice enough to spot for me as I tried to get my elevation set. Finally, after 5 shots, I was on paper and properly lined up. Naturally, because that's the way things go at our range, by the time it was our turn, a breeze had come up, and, worse, it was so variable shots were being moved all over the place. In fact, one amusing round of shots, the three of us on the line all put shots pretty much in identical spots on our target, way right. You could almost have put a level on our shots, as they were that close to being the same height.

After everything was said and done, the scores were read out, with most of the people shooting in the nineties. One shooter shot an 88, but this was only his third match.

I came in dead last, which was expected, with a 79. I was told I did well for a first match. Obviously, I have no reference point still, though, I had a great time.

As I told everyone, never have I shot so little yet had so much fun.

Blake - semi lurker in marginal standing

p.s. One of the guys in the pit gave me some grief about giving him a gravel shower during sight in. I told him, "Had I know it was you, I'd have done it again!" He laughed, along with everyone else. Great day at the range.

Excellent, Excellent, EXCELLENT! This made my day! People, you just have to do what Blake has done, and go do it! Don't worry about the score (not much, anyway) because this is practice. There is a ton of stuff to learn besides the trigger pulling business, and participating in a match is how you learn it. Do this a bunch more times and then start to worry about scores and winning and medals and range babes.

Man, I hope you keep it up and keep us posted, and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Thank you!

Here are some different online cigar vendors. You will find they not only carry different brands and different lines from those brands, but also varying selections of vitolas (sizes/shapes) of given lines. It's good to have options, especially if you're looking for a specific cigar.

Cigarsinternational.com
Cigarpage.com
Famous-smoke.com
Cigarsdaily.com
Neptunecigar.com
Smallbatchcigar.com
Bobalu Cigar Company

A note about sources. The brick & mortar/online divide exists with cigars, as with guns, and most consumer products, with respect to price. As with guns - since both are "persecuted industries", basically - I make a conscious effort to source at least some of my cigars from my local store(s). It's a small thing, but the brick & mortar segment for both guns and tobacco are precious, and worth supporting where you can. And if you're lucky enough to have a good cigar store/lounge available, they're often a good social event with many dangerous people of the sort who own scary gunz, or read smart military blogs like this one. -rhomboid

Anyone have others to include? Perhaps a small local roller who makes a cigar you like? Send me your recommendation and a link to the site!

Seriously. One of the causative events prior to the Declaration of Independence was a series of punitive British laws called the Intolerable Acts. Pulling that guy's permit (and thus making him legally defenseless against the next attack) seems pretty close.

22 Anyone carry a concealed revolver?
I carry a derringer from time to time. Yeah, that one, the one the ladies in the DMV MGC hate, with the funky trigger pull.

I really should get a proper holster made for it, that accounts for its oddities in shape. The pocket holster isn't perfect, and the ankle holster is, well, an ankle holster, with all of its issues. Would some of that hobby plastic give me a mold I could send off to a holster maker? (The stuff you can shape when it gets warm.)

Good trade!

No doubt it's "too much gun" for her, but it's seven shots (a surefire gunfight winner), reliable as a brick, and a very stable platform loaded with .38. Used only For The Home, so draw-and-present is hardly an issue. Wish I could get her out to practice with me more, though.

And, yeah, I've gone down the long range rabbit hole already. I started doing some research on factory ammo and extreme velocity spread. It was startling to see how much of a difference ammunition velocity inconsistency can make at 1,000 yards.

Suffice to say I learned enough that I'm going to start buying ammo from Unknown Munitions for my rifle. They do a 178 Grain ELD-M @ 2775 fps, and, if I'm reading correctly, the expected velocity spread should be around 30f ps or less. I'll do this until I get my reloading equipment squared away.

38 Today was DMV MGC and MiniMoMe. 5 in attendance, sra blaster and myself, Iris, Hrothgar, and Ed L. SWA was absent this time because she was late getting home from snorkeling in Mexico. Or meting out justice to the cartels like Sicario. One or the other.

Anyway we brought EP9s because they are legally braced pistols again (at least for now) and apparently the rest of the DMV brought theirs out, too. LOTS of braced pistols at the range today. Also Ed L. brought a recently Form 1'ed H&K SP-5K with ninja folding stock and a fully automatic assault vertical front grip.

We had lots of fun shooting today and made some other friends. There was a guy there who happened to be African American and he was wearing a "Black Guns Matter Shirt." He had a Q Honey Badger and a suppressed AR in .300 Blackout and a Kriss Vector 9 in snow camo and a 50 round drum and a binary trigger. I got to fire it! Surprised how heavy it was. Also by the binary trigger. But kinda liking it....

48 Please explain "rifle pit." Because I'm envisioning a WW1 trench line.

Essentially, yeah. A trench parallel to the firing line and the targets are on frames that either slide or pivot up into firing position and then down into the pit where someone marks the bullet hole with a paper disc so the shooter can see it and also places another visual marker around the edge of the frame to indicate the score.

49 I've got this friend I often see at the pistol range. He always tapes a picture of his wife's little foo-foo dog on his targets. The dog has hated him for some reason ever since they first met, always growling at him, tearing up his stuff, biting him, sh-tting on his side of the bed, you get the idea. Now, he'd never hurt the dog, he loves his wife too much to ever do that, so he takes out his frustration at the range. I've never seen him miss, even with the foo-foo target all the way to the back. Not. One. Single. Time.
That's dedicated shooting there...

The model 60 Chief's Special is no slouch either but to shoot it well, you have to master the double action trigger stroke.

75 Blaster, it's a collapsible stock from B&T and the classic H&K "broom handle" vertical foregrip. After seeing everyone else and myself putting a little over 100+ rounds through that SP5K-PDW today, I've come to the conclusion that while it's absolutely awesome at 15 yards and in, the iron sights alone aren't good enough to reach out to 25 yards, even with the stock. SRA Blaster tried a 10 round mag dump at ten yards without using the stock, using the H&K "push-pull" technique. She did pretty well, putting 9 out of ten rounds in a bullseye circle, with the tenth going a bit low, but still on the paper.

80 I used to carry a Smith and Wesson snubbie similar to what is pictured above but a somewhat older early 70's one. Point naturally for me and shoots better than I can and with the Federal HST 38 Special +p, it expands extremely well in ballistic gel and this load shoots close enough to the sights.

The model 60 came out with fixed sights regulated to the so called FBI load of a swaged 158 gr. Lead Hollow Point (LHP) +p so faster and lighter bullets have a point of impact a bit low from the sights.

89 One thing to note if you are carrying the 1 7/8 barrel Chief's Special is that you have to raise it up and punch the ejector rod to empty it. The ejectors on the very short barrel snubbies is not long enough to eject them holding the firearm horizontal.

Makes a difference if you plan to use speed strips or a speedloader and a fired cartridge rim caught under the ejector star will tie up a revolver if you only partially eject it.

The answer is what your wallet can stand but foremost what feeds well and is accurate in your 9mm firearms and shoots a POI (point of impact where the bullet lands) that is the same as your POA (point of aim via sights)

Golden Sabers (Remington), HST (Federal), Ranger T (Winchester), or Speer Gold Dots all work. Hornady and those using XTP bullets may or may not feed as the bullet profile is different.

Guntests.com might have a review of the Keltec carbine fired with a variety of 9mm ammo so you can find out what their experiences with it are.

So sra blaster did what she does and took her under her wing and let her shoot her P365 with stock trigger and she did well and really liked it.

Also, later a couple other guys in the lane next to us let sra blaster shoot a suppressed AR pistol in 5.56. They were wearing gloves, she wasn't. Between the suppressor and the billet quad rail, it became uncomfortable to hold barehanded after just a few shots. But she really enjoyed it.

Do consider buying at least a box of each of your top three choices. Load five or so rounds into a magazine and test fire it though your Kel-Tec. Some defense loads, usually (but not always) hollow points, won't feed well from some magazines and/or some guns. Choose your finalist based on what will actually feed into your firearm. Yes, it's a bit pricey. But I think it's better to find out sooner what defense ammo works for your weapon(s) rather than later during a close encounter of the worst kind.

Ideally feed it whatever you feed your carry pistol - so long as it works, of course. Trying to maintain different variations of the same caliber is hard to do. Whatever range ammo you shoot in the carry pistol, just feed that into the Keltec all the time.

133 Whatever range ammo you shoot in the carry pistol, just feed that into the Keltec all the time.
Posted by: blaster at November 19, 2023 07:48 PM (dWjpk)

Or, possibly, the other way 'round. If the Keltec runs well with another brand/version of ammo, then put that through your carry pistol and see if it eats it properly. If so, consider switching your carry gun to the other ammo. (Range or defense)

139 I'm a fan of the HSTs and have never had any issues with them feeding in any pistols, ARs, or PCC

I like their performance tests, and you can sometimes find them on really great sales (think buckets, I figure law enforcement contracts) at classic firearms and similar sites.

Hornady's XTP is an innovative bullet but not all 9mm's feed them well or shoot them accurately. Over the years, I have had the best luck with Federal's Hydroshock and HST lines, Remington's Golden Sabers (aka Ultimate Defense now), and Speer Gold Dots. The samples that I have fired from Sig have also been quite nice in .380 ACP.

Lucky Gunner has a test lab of self defense ammo for various cartridges including 22 LR, etc. using ballistic gel testing. Not all of the cartridges are updated to the latest and greatest bullets but most of them are still sold.

I don't think anybody does anything like that Colt bluing job today for the same price, even if you account for inflation ($250 back then equals about $700 today?). What's crazy is that the Detective Special was priced as an entry level revolver, but it came with that bluing job as standard. Today, that same bluing job would command a premium price. And we're not even talking "Royal Blue" levels of bluing.

The new 147 grain hi tech bullets in 9mm are much superior to the older first generation 9mm self defense cartridges in that weight. They have a nice balance of penetration and expansion in good ammo.

A few of my nine's prefer the 124 grains in +p or NATO (Berettas and Sigs mostly). My older Smith and Wesson Third Generation pistols prefer the 115 grain for whatever reason and some like the new 147 grain cartridges as well.

154 For when I get some more money, I've bookmarked the: Kel-Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2 M&P Multi-Mag 9mm 18.6″ Barrel Semi Auto Rifle as a 9mm possibility. Good for my morale to see others having ones here too.

But to start at .22LR to walk before running, I've looked at:

GSG-15 Standard Rifle .22LR 16.5″ Barrel [that I've read up on on Reddit threads about a few negatives to fix]

Mauser M-15 SEMI-AUTO CARBINE 22 LR [similar to the above]

And by chance I see that I had also bookmarked:

Kel-Tec SU-22E Semi 22LR 16″ Adjustable Sights Carbine

...that I assume is suitable as well if their 9mm PCC is okay too.

165 Wasn't able to make the range this week, but the reloading bench has been busy. Thanks to Mr Weasel's link to AmmoSeek I found three new gun stuff suppliers I had never heard of that came through splendidly. Got 50 round boxes of Fed 9mm HST, bulk quantities of 45 acp, 9mm and 223 cases. All delivered within a few days. All cases are nickel. They look purty to me when loaded. Nickel cases also mean you get the good stuff. For example, the 223 cases were almost entirely Speer and FC. They are also easier to pick up at the range.
I bought a Lee Ram Swage to remove crimps on 223 cases. Easy to set up and quick to use. Highly recommend. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Thanks Weasel.

167 For .357 Mag, I'm still a fan of the old yet still proven Winchester Silvertip, in the scarce 145gr. loading.

From the 4" Model 28, it'll zip on out at 1,270ish fps, yet something about the gliding aluminum jacket, the nature of the pressure curve generated by whatever power they use... it's an amazingly mild recoiling "Magnum" round.

Similarly, I don't feel "under-powered" with 185gr. fmj ball from the .45 ACP in the Combat Commander. Right at 1,000 fps in most brands, flat shooting, i.e; to point of aim out to 50 yards. Its already a "half-inch hole" at that weight and velocity, so I'm not worried much about expansion, but it's the most reliable feed and being fmj ball, one hell of a penetrator.

Oh, and smooth as silk to shoot. Mild recoil, compared to the 230 gr., follow up shots have that front sight back on target, muy pronto!

And, Mr. Weasel? Hell, I'd not complain if you pinned that first pic of the 686 as a permanent "logo" for the Gun Thread. It is just simply, one of the most beautiful, perfectly proportioned revolvers, ever.

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving, Horde!

170 The 168 ELD is an excellent box round for 1,000. You're still over 2,000 at 500 yds with decent energy. Before those loads, I was using the 155 HSM which gives you less velocity at 500, and is more subject to the wind, but I still know a bunch of guys who still custom load that as their lr round of choice.

He's been mentioned here before, but there's a Marine near Tryon, NC that started out making holsters and now has a full gun store. He still makes holsters and has models for most everything. He's the only place I could find to make something with an unusual light. Highly recommended.

217 MrTea and I were at the range twice this week. I'm still working on being comfortable with my 22 pistol. The first time it was just the two of us and his 9mm Feg, the shotgun and the new AR. Wow, that is so easy to shoot, but heavy for me.

The second time we went a friend from church, retired AF, retired LEO and trainer came to offer some tips. This is the first time I had a lane all to myself and was confident enough to do all my own shooting without MrTea right there. He was in the next lane. I feel like that was a big step of progress for me.
I'm working on shooting with both eyes open, and our friend had some tips and encouragement for me.

219 And I'll bet that the relentless push to reduce costs imposed by the market (plus more than a little help from the corporate raiders who owned Colt from the 1990s until CZ took over) put an end to all that. Colt had issues going back to the 50's according to those familiar with the situation. Bill Ruger remarked that the Colt management were not gun guys but golfers back then and Colt had fairly sour relations off and on with their labor unions while Smith and Wesson and upstarts like Ruger were eating into their consumer businesses. Colt management started focusing on defense contracts as a result.

220 Ben Had, I've got one in trade. It's a go-to fruit glaze. Cook the duck until just before done, then add this and cook another ten minutes or so:

1 cup favorite preserves (I like raspberry, but apricot and peach are nice)
1/4 cup honey
A half-shot of brandy if you've got it, but it's not necessary.

Return to the oven and cook until the duck is done and the glaze caramalizes. I usually serve it with a rice pilaf. If you're entertaining cut open a bell pepper and stuff it with the rice and cook them for a few minutes to soften. Avoid cheese on top because it doesn't go real well with the glaze.

Only issue I have is that, because it's elastic, I have to cinch it really tight around me and the gun, or a few minutes of carry will have me re-adjusting.

Most probably. Colt also had a flood at their historic factory after WWII and that also threw them for a loop. It probably allowed Ruger and Great Western to get some of the Colt Single Action market as well. in the 50s and the Woodsman was more or less taken out by the Ruger Std Model.

Thanks. I've used IMR-4350 and had good results with it, accuracy-wise. Apparently IMR-4350 and H4350 are NOT the same powder, and are NOT interchangeable, since Hodgdon shows different load data for the two powders, for the same cartridge and bullet. And, to make things interesting, there's also AA4350, which has still different load data, in spite of the similar number. All three are distributed by Hodgdon, but appear to be different powders, with different load data, regardless of the similar names.

Charles Clawson says that by the end of WWII, Colt was LOSING $$ on its M1911A1 contracts for the Army. So you could say the problems started even before the 1950s. I've always been reluctant to point the finger at the UAW (the union representing Colt workers) for Colt's troubles. The UAW may not have helped matters, but they didn't make the decisions to ignore the US civilian market, end all revolver production in 1999, minimize AR-15 sales for the civilian market, or any of the other numerous boneheaded decisions from management in the second half of the 20th century, or the first 15-20 years of the 21st century.

Colt management across generations must have thought that they could coast on government contracts. This happened with the M-16 and its variants (Vietnam era) and again thirty years later with the M4/M4A1 (GWOT era). When the government contracts ended, the party was over for Colt.

255 Good animation on that AR-15 video; gorgeous work.

Unfortunately, they left out a key functional "thing" with regards to the Stoner gas system; the expansion of gas inside the bolt carrier is integral to the function of the rifle. The way the video narrative makes it sound, it's just the gas going back into the gas key. Reality is that the gas going into the expansion chamber kicks the bolt and carrier out of the locked position.

If you block the gas from doing its thing there in between the carrier and the bolt, the rifle will not function properly. That is a seemingly tiny little detail to quibble over, but that is what separates the Stoner Gas System from a direct impingement weapon like the MAT 49-56 or Ljungman.

Posted by: naftali (havel) at November 19, 2023 08:35 PM (Hv1dQ)

A "hot" round is jargon for a cartridge which has a powder charge that produces higher than normal pressure when fired. This generally happens with an excessive powder charge.
Higher pressure results in higher velocity. The drawback is the higher pressure can damage the brass, sometimes leaving the brass stuck in the chamber. In extreme cases high pressure will rupture the brass case, damaging the gun and the shooter.

Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at November 19, 2023 09:00 PM (YRK4R)

258 Colt's military contracts were centered around the AR 15 in the 60's and Colt itself spent scarce capital to come up with the M4 variant in the 90's so that Colt actually 'owned" the intellectual property.

Not really blaming unions in this case but simply put, Colt was losing market share, not investing in future lines of business, and losing market share at the low and high end. Winchester was going through the same issues in that their old models simply became uneconomical to produce compared with its competitors (Remington for example).

Does it have a safety on the slide (not the frame?), barrel length? That would be the Third Generation 4506 and its variants with differences in frame material, DAO, barrel length, or bluing. There was a 645 in the mid eighties as a 2nd Generation with a rare single action variant 745.

Checked CDNN Sports and they have most of the recent Ruger handgun mags in stock going back to the P series and a bit less than mfg recommended price. Natchez has quite a few and is having a mag sale (albeit only a couple of bucks off) most Ruger magazines for handguns.

In retrospect, I think the decision to end Colt revolver production in 1999 was a huge loss. The Colt Magnum Carry, introduced at the start of year, was the long-awaited upgrade of the Detective Special to accept .357 Magnum. I think it would have been a strong contender in the concealed carry market had it survived. But because short sighted management ended Colt's revolver production, Colt completely missed the concealed carry market that broke wide open by the mid-2000s. Today's King Cobra has many of the features that the Magnum Carry introduced 20 years earlier.

307 I am no precision shooter, just reloading to keeps my hands busy...

Powder and loads is alchemy.
The most interesting thing I have taken note of is that TOO LIGHT a load (depending on many factors, but mostly powder selection and charge weight) can lead to detonation - RUD.

Haven't watched the "special" video yet, but will assume that the original 38 special was an special chambering, like some kids are special...
Anyway... if anyone has pursued the StarLine catalog, they have many 'special' brass for the newer high power magnum big bores, specifically so one can make light loads with minimal bad side effects.

One thing as I do my reloading I look for powders that give good case fill to
- avoid double charges
- minimize detonation.

Or am I crazy thinking detonation is a thing?

That's something I wonder about, too. My inclination is to think that reports of blown up guns from light loads is the result of accidental double charges, but I've read some accounts from experienced reloaders who have experienced blowups and swear that they did not or could not have double charged a cartridge.

H110/Rem296 has a reputation for light loads detonating; when I've used it, I've made sure to keep above the minimum. These days I just use different powders, that don't have such warnings.

337 If I recall one of the problems with detonation with light loads is that the powder is position sensitive and leaving large amount of space in the cartridge leads to uneven burning pressures from slower than usual powders used in that firearm.

Common back in the day for people firing light pistol loads of position sensitive powders to hold their firearm up to settle most of the powder at the primer before firing.

341 One of the detonation effects in rifles can come from a rusted or pitted bore and certain powders as the bullet comes to a near stop and the pressure buildup subsequently is too much.

While not a detonation, a few people firing old rifles that had improperly hardened receivers have claimed a receiver that cracked or shattered with a fast pistol powder light load but have fired slower powder full loads just fine.

That I think had something to do with the fast powder causing a different pressure impulse to the receiver than the traditional slower powders did.

Used to be on a forum that has some subgroups on odd things like that. Basically it is a thing but rare.

Most "detonations" are caused by double charges of powder, but there is a condition where a lighter than normal charge of slow burning powder will partially ignite, pushing the bullet into the barrel, and then the rest of the charge burns. The bullet becomes its own bore obstruction.
Search for "SEE detonation" if you want to get in the weeds. It is a controversial subject, with some denying that it even exists.

354 Years ago there was a wave of incidents with mild .38 Special wadcutters suddenly blowing up revolvers. Coincidentally, progressive reloading machines were just reaching the consumer market at that time.
Progressive loaders perform the multiple stages of reloading a cartridge on multiple cases at the same time, and it is very easy to double charge a case when using one.

I have a 6906 (sadly of dubious provenance), and it is a wonderful pistol. Solid, positive controls, it fits my hand well, and it is reasonably accurate.

It reminds me of my HK USP!

357 >>> Can you tell which thread this discussion was in? Been absent owing to spouse health issues and am interested, from a military history angle. Thanks!

360 So I was looking at some Kennedy shit today, and was asking myself, "Myself, how could Elon blow up a rocket, and Kennedy got shot like Tupac and nobody knows?"

They answer is short cocks. And tiny balls. Grow some big balls.

361 Whitetail season coming up. Was planning using the AR in 350 Legend I built for when I took 8 year old GStE on his first hunt (5 yrs ago), but haven't had time to confirm zero. Will prolly do as last year and borrow one of Son's Marlins in 375 Win. He knows how to zero, so no confirming shots needed. Harvested two last year. 150 yds and 300 yds. Good zero. 1 rd each. Son did me proud on his BRM.
