  • Starship's second test flight successfully reached space - and then went boom. (Ars Technica)

Not everything went to plan, but it went a lot better than the first test, with all 33 engines in the booster working, a clean separation of the second stage of the rocket, and reaching a height of nearly 150km before the automated self-destruct system got bored and decided to join in the fun.

19 The Open AI fight sounds a little like the Project Veritas fight. The head person and face of the company gets fired.

The biggest difference is the Project Veritas Board wanted to destroy Project Veritas, and the Open AI board wants to save the company (and their stock options too?).

Maybe they could put the 'Automated self destruct' on some sorta timer that once the rocket hits a certain altitude and is safely away from land and people it shuts off? Oh, I know, it's AI and no one should question it. Never mind.

Ha! Of course. But if you're ten miles high traveling at 10,000 mph isn't that time to turn it off? I'd hate to be the guy who wrote the code for that who has to go to work tomorrow.

26 I was chatting with an ex-Monterrey, CA cop who got sent out to a traffic stop by a rookie cop. The rookie had pulled over Clint Eastwood for speeding. It was an awkward situation. The Ex pulled the Rookie aside and counseled him that issuing the ticket was a really, really bad idea. When the Ex went to discuss it with Eastwood he started playing his Dirty Harry role during the discussion which blew up the everything. After some further discussion the whole matter went away and as Eastwood was pulling away he said in his Dirty Harry voice, "next time don't be punks," and went right back to speeding.

I remember when the peeps in Mission Control all wore white short sleeve shirts with pocket protectors and smoked like fiends. Hardly the type to get all excited and congratulate themselves after the second RUD. The last forty years have sure seen some changes.

33 Why are people talking about Taylor Swift's vagina?

The only thing I know about Taylor Swift is that she had trouble breathing during a concert in Rio and it is incredibly hot there , and some young fan died from a heart attack.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at November 19, 2023 05:16 AM (B+Ukf)

34 And she cancelled a tour, and they only reason I know this is because I looked it up.

35
I'm watching the second stage burning away, the speed increasing, then suddenly to my eyes it 'sploded. But then I can hear these engineer types all clapping and acting happy and I'm like I guess my eyes lied to me. Nope, it blowed up real good.

I might get concerned if someone I know has trouble breathing. But not enough to have a heart attack.

I wonder how many employees Elon Musk has working on this project? I've read that at one time NASA had 500,000 engineers working on the moon missions.

Posted by: Divide by Zero at November 19, 2023 05:23 AM (enJYY)

38 I think the young fan did not have a heart attack because she was concerned about Taylor Awift having trouble breathing.

43 So, what did Elon Musk say that was considered anti semetic, (?) because it sounds to me from talk here that his words were taken out of context and the leftist "Big Brothers" of tech want to take him down for supporting free speech.

47 Evening and morning, all,

What happened with Taylor Swift and her latest media-hyped "relationship," then? Did it explode like Musk's Starship, or did it implode, or what? (See how I tied those two items up in a neat bow?)
