MORNING RANT: The Hottest year Ever? NOAA is Including Fabricated Data from Hundreds of Decommissioned Stations in Its Temperature Database

As is customary every autumn, there is a torrent of news stories coming out about the current year being the Hottest Year Ever! Since these stories start coming out well before the end of the year, that pretty much gives the game away about how fraudulent the data inputs are. Here is a typical apocalyptic headline.

“2023 Shaping Up to Be Warmest Year in NOAA's Global Climate Record” [NOAA – 10/13/2023]

With only 9 months of reporting data, NOAA was already able to announce “Hottest Year Ever.” But to be fair, they knew well in advance that their data would show 2023 to be the hottest year ever, not only because NOAA “adjusts” much of the data they gather, but even more shockingly, because they fabricate much of the rest of the data inputs from decommissioned stations!

Meteorologist John Shewchuk has been researching NOAA’s hundreds of “ghost stations.” These are climate stations that were once in operation, but aren’t any longer. They might have been removed, or maybe they just quit operating and were never repaired, but NOAA continues to fabricate estimate temperature data for these formerly operational stations.

In the picture below, John Shewchuk is standing where US Historical Climatology Network (“USHCN” station 080611 once stood in Belle Glade, FL. It was removed in 2005, but that hasn’t stopped NOAA from continuing to ascribe temperature data from the Belle Glade station into their climate record. NOAA simply “estimates” the Belle Glade temperature, and then inputs that into their formula that reports “Hottest Year Ever!” They call this “science.” It’s not. It’s fraud.

Here is some background on the USHCN stations:

• At one point in the 1950s there were 1,218 of these stations.
• By 2020 the number of functioning stations had declined to 830.
• NOAA has chosen to keep the number of database inputs at 1,218.

As a result, NOAA simply estimates the temperature data for the other 388 decommissioned stations. In other words, the temperature records for approximately 1/3 of the USHCN stations are fabricated estimated.

Shewchuck - Belle Glade.JPG

It gets even worse. As I’ll show in just a moment, aside from the fabricated reports from the USHCN ghost stations, NOAA adjusts the actual readings from stations that are still functioning, to support the climate hoax.

The table immediately below from the Belle Glade station is much simpler to read than it looks, and it reveals both types of fraud that NOAA is committing: 1) the adjustment of temperature data; and 2) the fabrication of temperature data.

In blue is the actual Raw data produced by the Belle Glade station until it went dark in 2005. Each row represents a year, for instance the first year is 2000. The 12 numbers that follow are the 12 average monthly temperatures for that station, shown as Celsius x 100. Therefore, the average temperature in January 2000 was 25.12° Celsius. In February 2000 the average temperature was 25.50° Celsius. (-9999 means that no reading was recorded.)

Below that table in red is the official NOAA temperature data, where two things stand out.

1) NOAA has adjusted the actual Raw data. That 25.12°C temperature for January 2000 was warmed up to 25.21°C. February 2000 was similarly adjusted from 25.50°C to 25.60°C.

2) Despite Belle Glade going offline in 2005, NOAA continues to report temperature data for that imaginary station. The “E” by the temperature indicates that this is an estimated temperature, however, that estimate is still included in the official temperature record.

Again, this isn’t science. It’s fraud.

Belle Glade Raw Data.JPG

While there is little more to add to how completely fraudulent NOAA’s temperature reporting is, it is still worth taking a quick look at the “global” historical temperature database to understand how NOAA’s fraud is so historically relevant.

Mr. Shewchuk has provided a map showing the concentration of temperature stations that have been in operation for at least 100 years as of 2020. You’ll notice that the historical “global” database is overwhelmingly isolated to the USA, along with some western European stations and some in Australia.

To summarize the obvious, the historical “global” temperature record is primarily the USA’s temperature record.

Global Temperature Stations - 100 years.JPG

But the USA’s historical temperature record has been adjusted by NOAA!

We are fortunate that ethical scientists have saved the historical NOAA climate records, because NOAA’s current administrators have altered the official historical temperature records to cool the past and warm the present, so as to create a trend of catastrophic climate warming that can only be saved by eco-communism.

Below (in blue) is actual raw climate data as gathered by NOAA, along with NOAA’s fraudulently adjusted data (in red) that supports the climate hoax.

NOAA Altered Historical Data.JPG

With NOAA’s history of anti-scientific fraud, it should be assumed at this point that any data NOAA publishes is a fabrication.

My previous documentation of NOAA’s fraud was the progenitor of a commenter’s quote that gave birth to Throckmorton’s Razor and Minuteman’s Corollary:

Throckmorton’s Razor: “Assume that any authority which has previously provided false data is always acting dishonestly.”

Minuteman’s Corollary: “Discount everything a liar says in his argument, even if it may support your position.”

NOAA has so thoroughly compromised its integrity with its pattern of politically motivated fraud, that not only do I not believe its reporting of temperatures or tropical storm wind speeds any longer, but I don’t even trust it to accurately report the dew point. Every piece of weather data produced by NOAA should be assumed to be fraudulent.

Mr. Shewchuk has a helpful video, that is worth a viewing.

Cap Allon at Electroverse also has a good write-up here about the ghost station fraud.

I’ll finish up by highlighting a few more ghost stations that are dutifully reporting the climate apocalypse, even though they are technically not reporting any data at all.

Your government is lying to you about an impending climate apocalypse so it can impose global eco-communism on you.

But aside from that, have a nice weekend.

U.S. energy experts are warning of the economic and national security implications of President Biden's pact with China this week to move towards shutting down fossil fuel production in favor of green energy.

The State Department announced this week it had struck a deal with its Chinese counterparts pledging to "accelerate the substitution for coal, oil and gas generation" with green energy sources like wind and solar power.

Experts also noted that China has rarely followed through on international accords and stands to financially benefit from such an agreement since it controls much of the world's green energy supply chain.

Guess who makes the majority of wind, solar, and renewables equipment??? China for the win.

So, while not as accurate as operational government weather stations are alleged to be, anyone who wants to can collect raw historical data for just about anywhere one of the government stations is supposed to be and do their own comparison. The data will only go back a few years, but that should be enough to highlight any discrepancies between on the ground conditions and fabricated data.

The oceans are 1000x greater than the atmosphere by mass. When the temperature rises, CO2 becomes less soluble.

48 Even if they weren't lying or fabricating evidence, or helpfully "adjusting" the numbers, it's worth keeping in mind that for the vast majority of the history of these sites, the readings were done by some guy looking at a thermometer outside his window.

Maybe he was sick one day, or looked at the thermometer at an angle and misread, or didn't check it religiously at the same time every day, or the thermometer wasn't perfectly calibrated. etc etc

And yet we're acting like slight variations (less than a degree Celsius) is somehow scientifically significant and we can build models accurately showing hundreds of years of temperature projections in to the future.

53 Again, the whole underlying theory is bullshit so getting worked up about the veracity of station data is besides the point.

They know the station data and synthesized data they are running their models with are bullshit, they don't care.

So again, the correct questions to ask when they say this is the hottest year ever, is ok, well, how hot should it be, when was the earth the correct temperature and what do we need to get back to this perfect temperature, how long is it going to take and what are the collateral consequences for getting back to this correct temperature?

I've actually done this, with idiots at Penn State, where Michael Mann of Hockey Stick Fame resides and the result has always been the same, melting down, not answering these basic questions and walking away in a spittle flecked rage calling me a climate denier.

I'm sick of this bullshit and our side really needs to push back on this bullshit in a profound and serious way before these maniacs destroy the f**king world.

83 Bayesian: if you followed the Climategate Scandal of a few years ago, you would see that in private emails between themselves, they admitted that they had destroyed all the records of their past methodology, so no one could ever question it.

If you go back to newspaper records from the 1930's and look up published temperatures; and then compare those to what the models say they were, you will find that it was actually a full 2 degrees warmer, in most cases.

The entire amount of reported warming can be explained completely by the fudging they have done with their computer models.

I'm also a former NOAA employee, not at the National Weather Service but their National Marine Fisheries Service. At the lab I worked at back in the mid-2000's we used a lot of NOAA data and funneled marine (ocean temperature, salinity, etc.) into some of their forecast models. Specifically the semi-annual La Nino/La Nina climate predictions.

Interesting stuff, but not like a 'forecast' you could depend on. Nothing about the weather/climate is fully understood. And nobody talks about the single largest contributing factor to climate; the sun. Which is understood less than the other stuff climate alarmists claim to 'know.'

155 99 I'm one of those nerds with my own weather station.

A recent example of NOAA unable to even get close to accurately predicting weather conditions 48 hours ahead, at my location on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Three times in the past month the predicted rainfall on a day 48 hours ahead was over an inch. Actual rainfall those days was about 1/4 inch.

They can't predict local weather very accurately 365 days a year, but they have the global average surface temperature nailed for the next 50 years?

2) Despite Belle Glade going offline in 2005, NOAA continues to report temperature data for that imaginary station. The “E” by the temperature indicates that this is an estimated temperature, however, that estimate is still included in the official temperature record.

173 Outside of local forecasting and reporting - which is useful on a day-to-day basis - why are ground stations used at all? Satellites are much more accurate and can consistently sample wide areas on regular schedules, and we have plenty of weather satellites and have for some time now. There is no reason to be using ground stations in macro-level temperature statistics at all.

The answer, of course, is that weather satellites don't show a persistent or consistent warming trend.

177 Speaking of $60,000+ cars, I've developed a hypothesis based on something a moron posted last week.

Manufacturers are making a product that consumers can't afford. This is not hyperbole. 50% of Americans can't afford a new car. That is completely illogical and against any sensible business practice. But instead of seeing prices go down to where the consumer can afford the product, the prices continue to rise.

Car manufacturers dislike cash buyers because they make their real money not in selling the cars but in financing them. So car manufacturers WANT normal cars and trucks to cost $60K-$100K, because it allows for lending, high interest rates, and 96+ month loans.

Change my mind.

183 Many years ago, the "Journal of Irreproducible Results", a humor/satire magazine aimed at scientists and engineers (and in his heyday, often quite funny) ran an article entitled "The Data Enrichment Method", by Henry R. Lewis, which proposed exactly what the NOAA is doing: taking one or two measurements, then filling in the gaps with estimates - in effect, with shit you make up. The method, the author claimed, has many benefits: "breadth of applicability and in the promise it holds of obtaining more reliable results without resource to the expense and trouble of increasing the size of the sample of data". Clearly, the NOAA has Dr. Lewis's satiric article to heart, and run with it.

216 163 I wonder what the mechanism is for filling in phony data for now-absent sensors. I doubt there is a human typing in bogus figures. Probably an automated system that multiplies the prior average by some amount (say, 1.1) and then reduces it randomly by some figure that will, on average, show warming.

238 174 A fascinating long term physical reference point to sea level is Pevensey Castle, on the southern coast of Britain. It was originally a Roman fort built in late antiquity to guard an important port from marauders, overlooking the entrance to the harbor. It now sits high and dry, the bay it guarded is all farmland, and the sea is now 2 - 3 miles away.
Sea levels were actually higher during the Roman Warm Period than they are now.

They will, for the same reason house prices will once forced-selling happens (same in both cases - homeowners for the latter, dealers and manufacturers for the former). Right now, prices are supported by low inventory despite interest rates. That game doesn't last forever.

Once someone *has* to sell for whatever reason, inventory increases and can longer support the price in the context of high interest rates. Increasing interest rates - a long-term cycle, starting not long ago - will end a lot of this as other price supports fail under the weight of forced inventory movement.

Either way, they integrate the phony number - well-constructed or not - into the official final figure. And "within a few degrees F" is pretty damn important when they're positioning all policy recommendations based on changes within that range...

Oof. That's going to kill a lot of plants if they're using NOAA data.

It's a multi-pronged approach to create mass starvation!

279 Seriously that any of the climate nonsense gains purchase with the public it’s due to the decline of religion in America…. I was immersed in the Bible as a yute so just off the top of my head I can quote: “The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof”

God Almighty is in charge of the earth and as a consequence I don’t worry about climate catastrophe. To me it’s an absurd notion. But nowadays you have a bunch of folks who either worship the earth like pagans or worship “science” (which they don’t even understand what it is and have never heard of Francis Bacon)

As El Rushbo would point out, even if man intentionally tried to destroy the climate -- it couldn't be done.

Pre-payment penalty on a loan enforceable in CA? A lot of states forbid those clauses and they're not enforceable and I'd be shocked if CA wasn't one of them.

288 Once someone *has* to sell for whatever reason, inventory increases and can longer support the price in the context of high interest rates. Increasing interest rates - a long-term cycle, starting not long ago - will end a lot of this as other price supports fail under the weight of forced inventory movement.

But, same as food prices, the floor is now $60-$100K. Prices won't go below that.

There are plenty of good older vehicles in the used market. Two to five year old ones will go at a premium, but the 5 to 20 year old ones don't, and there can still be many, many good miles in them, and lots of independent shops skilled at repairing them, if DIY isn't your plan.
