AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 9/9 – San Franpsycho sent an update Paul, who we have been praying for as he deals with cancer,
has elected to discontinue further treatment of his cancer. Please continue to pray for his complete and immediate healing.
10/14 Update – Thank you for your prayers. They had a pizza party at Paul’s house to celebrate his birthday. San Franpsycho was thankful for the opportunity to tell his friend how much he loves him.
10/22 Update – Paul passed away. He was with his dear wife and son. May his memory be a blessing. Thank you to all who prayed and praise the Lord. 9/23 – Polliwog the Ette requested prayers for her mother-in-law, Peggy, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It seems to be contained, but fast-growing, and hopefully a lumpectomy will be sufficient. She is understandably nervous about the whole thing and would appreciate prayers.
10/23 Update – Peggy’s surgery went well, but further tests showed that her lymph nodes did have cancer as well, which means chemo and radiation are in her future.
10/28 Update – Peggy misunderstood, and there is no lymph node involvement. But she will still need chemo due to the size of the tumor. 10/14 – grammie winger would appreciate prayers for her son, who has been in the ICU for 10 days and it looks like it will be a couple more.
10/21 Update – He is doing better. He spent 11 days in ICU and is in residential treatment now. Grammie has high hopes. 10/20 – SB asked for prayers for his mother. She is in end-of-life care now. Prayers for his father are needed as well. 10/21 – Sugar Plum Fairy asked for prayers for her dad, Mindful Webworker, as he has been pretty sick for the last few days. Prayers for recovery to full health and strength, and wisdom for her mom to help him would be appreciated.
10/28 Update – Mindful Webworker had an emergency surgery and is recovering well. They are not sure what happened, and tests are underway, but so far his prognosis is good. He is in good spirits and is recovering well. She sends thanks from the whole family for the prayers, and a special thanks to Muldoon for the limerick, which brought laughter to some dark days. Please keep praying, and thanks and glory to God for the doctors saving dad’s life. 10/26 – Cybersmythe has been laid off for the third time in 15 months and asks for prayers and good wishes. 10/26 – Diogenes sent thanks for the prayers for his daughter. The surgery on a brain tumor went well and, while it’ll be a while before they know the final results, the docs were very optimistic. 10/28 – FenelonSpoke thanked the people who prayed for her township open space committee to buy land from her church. It has been approved. Now they just have to have enough money to last until this is all settled.
11/4 – She thanks God that the township voted to buy their land at the church. 10/28 - ME asked for prayers. He has been unemployed for nearly two years. He isn’t even getting interviews anymore; there have been hardly any in the last 6 months. The longer he is unemployed, the harder it seems to even get an interview. Maybe with the Lord’s blessing he could finally land a job before his savings completely run out. Which is right around the corner. 11/4 – FenelonSpoke prayed that if it was God’s will, there is a might showing for the conservative School Board candidates. 11/4 – Half Dozen sent thanks to the Horde for the prayers, and gave an update on his son’s health. He had a large tumor removed from the center of his brain stem in March. Then there was a month of rehab in the hospital, and on-going therapy to re-learn how to walk. He also had 6 weeks of radiation and chemo, just to be sure. He has returned to work part-time. Progress has been slow but steady. Small things wear him out quickly. His paralyzed vocal cord still has not recovered, so he speaks in a rough whisper, and his voice gives out before the end of each day. Next week, they will all be walking in the city’s 5K with him. It will be exhausting, but a good day nonetheless. 11/4 – Oddbob asked for prayers for his granddaughter. Without going into details, please pray hard for baby E. Thank you. 11/4 – Creeper asked for prayers again for his friend “Q”. We had prayed for Q, who had a bad back, and then had a temporary nerve stimulator put in, which helped tremendously. They installed the permanent stimulator last week, and it was a disaster. He woke up in excruciating pain, running a low fever, and vomiting. A CT scan found an ileus. It seems to have been caused by the stimulator, and if it doesn’t clear on its own, he will have to have it removed. 11/9 – JediArashi asked for prayers for his health and the meddling government situation related to pain medications. There are shortages already, and the DEA is “recommending” a reduction of 7.9%. He is a chronic pain patient, and is terrified. 11/10 – Tonypete asked for prayers for Deb, Ben, and their little boy. Deb suffered a premature emergency birth of her long-prayed-for second baby. He did not survive. They are all heartbroken. 11/10 – Commissar of Plenty and Lysenko stuff sent his thanks for the prayers – that he didn’t even ask for yet! He had good news from the doctor yesterday. He will only have to have one surgery, not multiple. 11/14 – Jewells sent an update. She got the news that her cancer is progressing and they are stopping the current treatment. They want to switch to monoclonal therapy as well as chemo. 11/15 – That Northerlurker what lurkd needs help. He commented that he is in the worst financial situation of his life, but the people in his town are reaching out to him to help. He added that the only thing worse than financial stress is asking for help. For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. Busy day today prior to Delilah's expected whelping on Monday morning. We have to get her area cleaned and set up, the whelping box put together, heat lamp fetched, puppy box ready and plenty of towels washed. As well, we need to go out and get lots of dog food for the outside guys and buy some additional lighting for the kennel to make it easier to see them with the ZoiCam we set up.

Ms G and I went to T.J. yesterday just as a recon trip. It's not far from our place here but in FL where we do six months, the T.J. is way too far away. So we had not been in one for a couple years.
I wanted to see what inflation had done.
Two buck chuck is now four buck chuck.
There were T.J. employees all over the store, a couple in every aisle, whose job it seemed to me was to chat with people about anything those people wanted to chat about. I said to one, "hey where's the wine" and she took us there and proceeded to do a sales pitch for four different reds.
When we checked out, we were behind a woman in hospital scrubs that was checking out about six items, but wanted to have a fun chat with the cashier about nothing, that went on an on and on, way after she was handed her receipt.
I think lonely people with too much money go to T.J. just to have someone to talk to. Just about anything in the store can be had for far less at Kroger, Jewel, Aldi (which owns T.J.) or Walmart. This one yesterday has an Aldi and a Walmart in sight.

My sister came through her heart valve surgery on Wednesday with no problems and she's recovering nicely. I want to thank everyone here who added her to their thoughts, wishes and prayers for their help seeing her through this.

Every year around Christmas season I might find Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. If it's the real thing - sometimes it's not - then I'll treat myself for a couple of weeks before going back to the usual cheap stuff.
It's worth the money but not all the time.

Had a high school friend lose a son that way. Same age. Bullied at school. Came home and hung himself in the shower. His 2nd grade little brother found him when he got home from school.

The X-ray this week showed Delilah had at least five, maybe six, puppies. On Monday morning, she'll go in for a progesterone test and an ultrasound. If everything looks good, the vet will do a C-section.
It's when we get home that I'll start worrying. The first few days are when they're the most vulnerable. There's nothing sadder than a fading puppy. But we will have a 24-hour watch on everyone for the first two weeks until their eyes open.
Whelping a litter is like paying a huge amount of money to hit yourself hard on the thumb with a hammer.

I always dislike hearing people say "eww" or "yuck" when someone else is eating something unless that person has prompted the conversation about it being gross. That's someones food you're talking about, and that person is eating and enjoying it.

The lovely and exploratory Mrs naturalfake bought some of Kroger's "Private Selection" Peppermint/White Chocolate Flavored Coffee for the holidays.
Sounds okay, right?
Nope.
Couldn't catch even whiff of Peppermint or White Chocolate.
It tasted more like it was Beef Bouillon Flavored Coffee.
Awful stuff.

As far as the church we are hoping the township committee gets itself in gear to actually buy our property ) they said they would) before we have no money left. A nice woman originally from Cuba/ but. Legal immigrant of many years came to church last week. She is very sweet.

My local Acme used to carry it around the holidays. You can find it on Amazon but it's about $60.00 a pound*. I used to think $20.00 a pound was crazy, but it's the holidays...

and our family is mourning the loss of a dear family friend, a woman who's family had been in Texas before statehood, who succumbed this week after a 5 year battle with breast cancer. She fought it as bravely and as well as could be done, and was cheerful and hopeful up until the end. Her name was Leia.

Many people don't understand the underlying premise of chemotherapy. Chemo agents are essentially poisonous to the cell division process. Malignant cancer cells are rapidly proliferating. The goal of chemo is to kill rapidly growing cells. Unfortunately, there are normal tissues in the body including bone marrow (red cells, white cells, platelets), hair, intestinal lining that are also rapidly dividing. So chemo results in depressed RBC's (anemia), hair loss, vomiting and suppression of white blood cells (immunosuppression). Chemo is given in pulses, pushing the limit to maximize killing of cancer cells, then giving a break to let the normal tissues recover.

Well, chemo is essentially poison. But, poison's that's less deadly to you, hopefully, than it is to the cancer.
That's the bet.
And most of the time, the docs don't know if it will be efficacious in your case. In most cases, they have to use chemo to see if it will be effective.
As an example, we have a relative that's got small cell cancer of the lung. That is a tough one. He's unlikely to survive.
However, there are two chemo treatments that he can try. Right now, he's using one. If it doesn't work, he'll try the other one. If it doesn't work, that's it. Game over.
It's rough but he wants to live. I'd do the same.

They do taste very different. Ceylon seems sweeter, as well. I prefer Saigon most of the time, but I use Ceylon in the dog cookies. Yes, they're very spoiled.
Ceylon is the only kind you should let dogs have, as the others can be toxic to them.

I have been sharing vehicles with Mini-me for probably 10 years now.
With all that has happened this year he still has managed to purchase a really nice family sized SUV. As of last night all my wayward jeeps returned to my house. All mine now. I'm the only one driving my stuff.
Now I get to take care of 3 years of neglected maintenance. A rear axle rebuild (I hope it's not to far gone) and clutch replacement on the YJ. Tires on the Cherokee. Oil changes for everything...

I trained for combat at sea. There is no foxhole digging or running to the rear on a ship at sea. But with modern weapons, it can be over pretty fast.

We found ourselves overspending and making way too many buys of gear we ended up, a.) not using much, and b.) taking up storage space.
And other than their Comte cows milk cheese, which they no longer have, all else was a yawn, but packed to two or more to the package.
Now we have, for the summer and winter homes, within three miles of the garage, an Aldi and a Walmart. We take the list, go to Aldi first, then cross to Walmart, the parking lots almost connect, where we get the remaining three or four items.

Travel day for me. Leaving Cozumel after using my last time share week. It has a.ways been a special place for me. My kids grew up with this vacation place and my younger son got married here.
The saddest part though is that the coral has been devastated by a disease which leaves the coral bleached white. Snorkeling, all you see is patches of white killing off the gorgeous purples, green and gold of the once vibrant varieties.
So far nothing has worked. They even tried antibiotics. They have closed off so,e areas but 21 cruise ships due here this week. They are basically killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
It is a sad testament to our society that used to revere nature only to jump on the GW bandwagon and sacrifice all this for some pie in the sky enrgy pipe dream.

TSP (trisodium phosphate) is (among many other things) a preservative that gets added to shrimp and scallops to help them retain water. It binds to the protein, and you can't get rid of it. Some people say it has a slightly soapy taste. Makes it impossible to get a good sear on a scallop. This is why you see scallops sold as "dry", i.e., with no TSP.

I would visit Gatun locks every day to watch ships and figure out how the water flowed through the locks, and then was recycled. Spoiler: the water was not recycled. The highlight was visiting the lock house and getting to open one of the locks. All original equipment from the Canal's construction too!

Small nit… I like to run and went jogging twice while there. Not a great running town… very few sidewalks away from downtown; lots of sharing the road with vehicles which makes me nervous (laws of tonnage apply)

I don't disagree they've found a nostalgic cash cow. Would say they got Band of Brothers right. I was invited to a prescreening of BofB in Seattle. They invited about 500 area vets and they set up a hanger at Boeing Field to host the dinner and displays. Most of the actors were there along with the men they portrayed. Spoke to many of them as well as the behind the camera guys.
They understood how this was both big business but also that it reached an audience hungry for the telling.

I did not have that reaction but I admit I don’t know the detailed history of D-Day. But the opening 30 minutes is an accurate portrayal of Omaha Beach from the POV of a soldier, no? For that alone I think it’s worth the watch. The end brings a tear to my eye I admit. What do you find offensive (aside from the presence of Hanks and Spielberg)?

That's one thing I won't mess around with or skimp on. They're a variable that can be controlled on a 4000lb+ container carrying my family that is traveling 55mph+ while other 4000lb+ containers full of other families travel 55mph+ in the other direction five feet away.
