The Great Smoky Mountains
by @adamgravett

Dolphin and dog race.

Nosy dogs.

Norbert's 12th birthday. Poor little dog is old now -- fourteen and a half.

He's got his social media team working like a dream.

ICYMI from last night: revenge of the roomba.

Cuddling with a lamb.

Tricksy desk.

Soccer superfan.

Parrot is very good at playing dead.

As is this dog.

Spider-Cat. Thanks to lost in space.

The book must be about chicken treats.

Be an elephant not a smellephant

Dog in a shelter gets adopted.

What is with all these bears suddenly waving? Is no one else freaked out by this? Do I have to fund a study myself?

22 Chinese researchers have reported the first live birth of a chimeric monkey, a significant breakthrough in primate research. This achievement opens new avenues in understanding stem cell pluripotency and has significant implications for genetic engineering and biomedical studies.

This is a long-sought goal in the field,” says senior author Zhen Liu of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). “This research not only has implications for understanding naive pluripotency in other primates, including humans, but it also has relevant practical implications for genetic engineering and species conservation. Specifically, this work could help us to generate more precise monkey models for studying neurological diseases as well as for other biomedicine studies.

I was at the Jeep dealer today to get a recall done, don't get me started about the fight for them to preform it with all of the mods on the vehicle, I'm in the waiting room, they have NBC on the tv and literally every segment is about diversity bullshit.

A segment on prioritizing black womens health over everyone else's health because racism.

Seriously, what if you are an Asian women or a black man and you have an issue that is more urgent than a black women's issue, you go to the back of the line??

Next segment was on black female orchestra conductors and how they are lifting up the voices of the unheard and unseen.

If these people are going to continue to force everyone to perceive things through a racial lens, then everyone is going perceive things through a racial lens and they are not going to like what comes of that.

Or alternatively...

121 "Nikki Haley approved" ruling...

Appeals court rules carmakers can store data permanently & share it
tinyurl.com/mstfd4vt
The case alleged that since at least 2014, Ford's infotainment systems had been permanently storing data such as call logs & SMS messages found on any phone plugged into the vehicle via USB, & keeping those messages on internal vehicle memory. Third-party company called Berla develops software & hardware known as the iVE Ecosystem is able to access those messages, & Berla can "pass the acquired communication to law enforcement, civil agencies, military, regulatory agencies, & selected private organizations."
Ford argued that "Washington courts have repeatedly held that those who send electronic communications, such as emails & text messages, understand these messages will be preserved in multiple forms & thus impliedly consent to the recording of such messages."
The Court of Appeals dismissed the Ford case on appeal. This month, the panel dismissed the cases against Honda & the other automakers. All rulings followed the same reasoning: The Washington Privacy Act requires "an injury to 'his or her business, his or her person, or his or her reputation.'"

Hamas’ abuse of the Shifa Hospital for military purposes, after repeated Israeli warnings to stop and efforts to evacuate civilians, has nullified its protected status under international law.

Hamas terrorists operating from the Shifa Hospital must surrender immediately.

We didn’t write the rules.

If you think a terror headquarters should receive blanket immunity because it was built under a hospital, write a new Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions. For now, we’ll go by customary law as reflected in this one.

It is not Israel that is deliberately targeting civilians but Hamas that beheaded, burned and massacred civilians in the worst horrors perpetrated on Jews since the Holocaust.

While Israel is doing everything to keep civilians out of harm’s way, Hamas is doing everything to keep them in harm’s way.

Israel provides civilians in Gaza humanitarian corridors and safe zones, Hamas prevents them from leaving at gunpoint.

It is Hamas not Israel that should be held accountable for committing a double war crime - targeting civilians while hiding behind civilians.

The forces of civilization must back Israel in defeating Hamas barbarism.

Diverting all usual business to doing crappy uneducated iron founding in backyards, and taking all the crops from the farmers as well as directing them to do incredibly destructive crop techniques, and then being unable to distribute the harvest due to limitations of the transportation net so it rotted on sidetracks was bad. Executing starving villagers for trying to glean grain from harvested fields was worse.
The food had to be taken to the cities because that is where the supporters of the party and the soldiers lived, and when they started feeling the pinch and complained, the cultural revolution was started

Working on models. And resisting doing a deep dive into Operation Frantic to see if the Bloody 100th ever participated and if so if the Tuskegee Airman in Italy every participated. But the chances of this are slim since the 8th AF Bomber Command took 8th Air Force Fighter Command escorts with them on those Frantic missions that went from England to Russia to Italy and finally back to England.

One of these 8th AF Fighter Command escort pilots was Kid Hoffman of the 4th FG. He was killed in a dogfight over Yugoslavia. His Mustang was named "Salem Representative."

Agree. The *premise* of communism was a lot better than life under the tsars. That was an absolutely fucked-up society. As literate as Russians *could* be, the vast majority were illiterate, superstitious, and unskilled in most anything above subsistence, by design. As implemented, communism was a disaster, but it did improve the lot of many Russians.

Winning the Spanish American War, Teddy Roosevelt and Wilson, though I also blame the Revenue act of 1913, the federal reserve and FDR's suspension of Gold conversion. And Nixon's end of the Bretton Woods agreement.

All of which seemed like a grand idea at the time.

The Revenue act, for example, was supposed to take the politics out of tax revenue for the federal government, since at that time excise taxes were levied often to allow domestic products to be profitable

Horne's Verdun book opened my eyes to the long French and Belgian love for underground fortresses, each with a lot of troops but only a few retractable turrets on top, mounting machine guns or short-barreled artillery guns. This led them after WW1 to construct the ultimate underground fortresses, Eben Emael in Belgium and the Maginot Line. Neither did anything to slow-down, let alone stop, the German offensive in 1940. Because the Krauts had excellent plans to neutralize them.
