Doesn't have to be AI, I've been using a program for years that applies a 'look' to an image based off an artist style. Cameras increasingly have them built in so you can 'cartoonize' a photo.

I took a picture of my present self and instructed AI to make me look about 18 years old and it did a pretty credible job of it. Added some muscle tone, took out the gray hair, the wrinkles and the age spots.

All mammals think 'neoteny' is cute because that's what babies look like. Round head, short muzzles, big eyes, small. If you did a huge survey of pictures of animals from infants to adults you'd almost certainly get an agreement of where cute ends, probably a sharpish curve from cute to non cute.

For me it also works for ketchup bottles they give out in hotels.

They are huge ugly grubs, that gnaw through the roots of the trees, killing them. I dug up a mess of them last Winter. They pickled right fine in gasoline, too.

They've probably shut down any diesel burning power plants there since they used to have nukes or cheap Russian LNG.

Last winter they had to start burning Lignite coal which is about as clean as burning truck tires.

I own an acre in Cali that had 16 pretty big ones on it. For years we begged to be able to cut down just 2 or 3. Could have made bank on them. Nope Cali protected those trees right into ash when it all burned down. Most of them were spiked as we found out anyway. Frigging hippies!
My once lush forest is now a bald granite desert with islands of bushes on it.

I've served a good many dinners of squirrel BBQ to many a happy diner. One squirrel per plate. Skin it, nip off the limbs at "elbows and knees", sever the head, then carefully open the body cavity, scoop out the innards, and wash the carcass very thoroughly under cold, running water.

Marinade as you will, but melted butter, a splash of beer, lemon pepper, garlic powder, ain't a bad start.

I am surprised they don't have the equivalent of quad-copter drones for retrieval and inspection. A couple of CO2 cartridges for each motor and a RC VR monitor for the operator. You wouldn't need much thrust in orbit as long as the vector wasn't too bad, and then of course you could send a line. Maybe

There's an old SF story about a scenario where a spy hides from a ship chasing him on a small asteroid and avoids the fast cruiser because he can climb across the surface faster than the ship can turn in a tight circle in space. This is being told to the narrator in a home setting. He asks the guy if he was the spy, and guesses wrong. The dude gets man and goes out to try and shoot a 'tree rat' on a tree in his yard, and the third fellow there tells him he got cashiered from the Navy because his cruiser couldn't catch a man in a space suit.

Only place I have seen tree-rat used, suburb slicker as I am.

205 Egypt was a total trip. When I left Somalia in 94 I got to see it from the window seat of a 747 while they decided if we were even going to be allowed to land.
Probably 3 hours of circling ever greater circles over the city of the dead and the Giza plateau. The pilots were digging on it and quite candid as to whether we would be landing there or somewhere else.
Didn't get to do any touring as we were put way out on the asshole of the airport for the night but it was still cool and something few have ever experienced.

I developed a stethoscope with AI that could quickly listen to lung sounds and detect pneumonia in less than a minute. Idea was to use for screening kids in poorer areas where doctors aren't available, get them to care. it also stored the sound for a doctor to review in the future.

It has medical uses for sure.

I am seriously considering extending the stew I made Saturday to last through the winter. Started with freezer burned stew beef fro at least 2 years ago (it bloomed nicely upon thawing and, hey, it's just stew, right?). I have a surfeit of venison and whitetail season is a couple weeks away. Already added more mushrooms, gravy, and pan-roasted carrots for dinner tonight. Not same pot starting today, though. Moved to a smaller pot and now it's in a Pyrex bowl in the fridge.

Yes! Other things, too, like side-arm casting to get under a low tree branch to get your fly Right. There.

If its zero gee, you can't cast upstream and let it float under the branch. Assuming no stream pumps, no gravity, no water flow, right? So, can't "cheat" such a cast.

Kinda like a Sourdough bread starter that has been nourished since 1849. From S.F again...stunning bread with a story that at night, the bread dough used to be "proofed" up on the roof of the bakery. It is said the nightly fog lent itself to the flavor before baking in the ovens down below.

For me, soaking up the liquid from a bowl of traditional Fisherman's stew.... Cioppino...yes...yes.

Also was saved from the fire after the 1906 earth quake. All SF sourdough is derived from the handful grabbed by the scared shitless bread maker who ran that day.

265 Slight progress on the healing front this morning.

I've been stitched up frequently in my life. This was the first time I got staples. Less ticklish removing staples than threads. Still, weird feeling. About 25 of 'em. From above the groin to below the ribs, with a little detour around the navel.

Doctors may patch, but God's Nature heals. Hallylooloo! By Grapthar's Hammer, I live to tell the tale!

Still on squinty cell not roomy desktop, so. not up to regular commenting or even lurking much, but AoS & the horde is a morale boost. 😉
