Yes, The ONT is a Giver.... The organization Forest & Bird in New Zealand hosts the Bird of the Year competition annually, and it's always a fierce competition. This year, the contest was renamed to Bird of the Century to celebrate the organization's 100th anniversary. And the winner is: the pūteketeke! Also known as the Australasian crested grebe, this bird is known for eating its own feathers in order to puke up parasites. The pūteketeke also has a unique mating dance. But the competition was not without controversy. The record number of votes prior to this year was 57,000, but this year, more than 350,000 votes came in, mostly due to a campaign by talk show host John Oliver, who pushed for the pūteketeke to win. The bird garnered 290,000 of those votes, even after thousands of fraudulent votes were excluded. Someone suggested The Horde have some educational videos on Saturday Night. 31 Tom Servo,
Insty linked an interesting tweet from Mark Levin about a Blinken memo that seeks to undercut Israel and the U.S. You might want to check it out. You are up on things much more than I am, and I would appreciate your take on it. Posted by: Legally Sufficient at November 18, 2023 10:18 PM (Zb5iS) interesting read, and 1) yes, this does sound like Blinken's plan 2) Levin as usual is reacting a bit too hysterically, I think, because 3) Blinken and Biden have no way to actually make any of the things they want happen. All of us who live here, even us conservatives, have a hard time realizing that thanks to Biden's perceived weakness by *everyone*, America has become pretty irrelevant to how things are going to play out from now on. We did apparently get Iran to back off by a fast show of force at the right time, but even that was more to protect our bases than anything else. Although I will add he's right in one point, there's not going to be any forcible displacement out of Gaza for any of the civilians; there's just no place that will take them. That's going to be a tough problem for Israel to solve. Posted by: Tom Servo at November 18, 2023 10:50 PM (q3gwH) 94

NEW: US has approved Japan’s request to buy 400 Tomahawk missiles The United States on Friday approved Japan’s request to buy 400 Tomahawk missiles, part of Tokyo’s bid to bolster defenses despite fresh dialogue with China. The State Department said it was approving the $2.35 billion sale that includes two types of the Tomahawk missiles, which have a 1,600-kilometer (995-mile) range. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told a parliamentary committee in February that his government was seeking 400 Tomahawk missiles as part of a major defense push. Japan has been alarmed by China’s growing military clout, including its exercises around Taiwan, as well as by nuclear-armed North Korea’s missile tests. LOL. "Popov"!
Local officials suggest couple passed away in sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning After closely checking the gas appliances at his home, experts found a valve problem that happened when the village had a power outage a week ago. This suggests that the couple probably passed away in their sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning. This information comes from local officials, as reported by Kommersant. “When I found out about his death, my heart was heavy. It’s a shame that people of such a rank, who are worthy of attention and respect, go out in this way. It seems to me that this was an absurd death,” Maj. Gen. Vladimir Popov, an acquaintance of the former commander, told the outlet News.ru. General Sviridov lost his top military position over ten years ago because he frequently criticized the Russian air force. In a 2007 interview with the Russian magazine Take Off, Sviridov strongly expressed dissatisfaction with the pilot training. I'll freely admit that I don't know what goes into getting a name change when marrying, but given that women have been doing this since time immemorial I can't imagine it being too complicated.
Posted by: CppThis at November 18, 2023 11:23 PM (PZvjL) It was complicated in the early '90s; drove my -ex crazy. Can't imagine what it's like today. Have a friend who divorced over two years ago and still hasn't changed back to her single name. The hassle is incredible the older you get. So many places to change the name, like credit cards, loans, 401(k)s, annuities, drivers' license, etc. That means all the documentation required to get all that changed. It gets worse if these is real property involved, like with my friend. So many more agencies to deal with. To be honest, I'm not sure she'll ever get around to changing her name back until she retires in a couple of years. I know it bothers her because her Dad died a couple of years ago (not from COVID) and he was upset she still hadn't changed her name back as he hated the prick she married. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @AOC 5h [the somewhat 'real' one] Conditioning aid to Israel, as we do with virtually all other US allies, is a responsible course of action. The United States has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure that public resources do not facilitate gross violations of human rights and international law. Ilya Shapiro @ishapiro 3h Latest Hamas Caucus messaging just dropped. Daniel Goldman @danielsgoldman 4h Hamas has held approximately 240 hostages for 42 days. NEW: An X executive discloses that the content highlighted in Media Matters' article constituted a mere 50 out of 5,500,000,000 ad impressions served throughout the entire day. In reality, virtually no authentic users encountered these ads juxtaposed with the mentioned content—except for Media Matters' employees, who intentionally exploited the system to locate such material. How did Media Matters achieve this? They created three new accounts, each following only a small number of accounts posting objectionable material. By relentlessly refreshing their timeline—13 times more frequently than an average user—they were able to capture screenshots of major corporate advertisements alongside the targeted content. This revelation exposes Media Matters' calculated strategy: generating these screenshots as leverage to compel major advertisers to withdraw their ads from X. Deceptive, manipulative, and evil? I took care of the SSA and DMV, and I'm almost done wrapping up my dental insurance and T-Mobile accounts. But damned if I can fix my name on Facebook. What I want is my maiden name and my current married name, but it's replaced my maiden name with my late husband's name. Bubba 33 came to Las Cruces this week. You would think the place was giving out $100 bills given the size of the lines.
In other news, Our Las Cruces favorite football team, the NMSU Aggies who 2 years ago was ranked 125th, has a 9-3 record, is playing for the CUSA championship, has a bowl game on the way, and today knocked off Auburn 31 to 10. The score doesn't begin to describe what a beat down it was ; it was a beautiful thing. I expect them to be ranked in the high 30s to low 40s after this. Even better is this game was a setup where they were supposed to get crushed and for the pleasure of pounding them to pieces Auburn paid them $1.7 million. That didn't work out. #AggieUp. When I moved from Rio rancho to Las Cruces I took the washer and dryer that were in the townhome when I bought it. Because I'm an idiot I didn't prevent the washer tank from banging around when it was in the back of the moving truck. This led to a hole in the tank. Remarkably, I discovered this causes water to go all over the place. $1500 later I had a new washer and dryer. For the record, I have the spacer that goes in the tank in case I move again out in the garage. The good news is I may be an idiot but generally not twice on the same subject.

You haven't met Mrs B, she has more attachments for her vacuums than I have harley tools. She has this long wide flat thing that gets under the stove and the washer and dryer.

I certainly intend to do a better j*b of housekeeping from now on, than I have done in the past. Life is... more stabilized now, not as chaotic as the last 4 years.

Haha, Bers...
I am *anything BUT* a "power user" of vacuums. However, there are 3 vac. units in the room with me right now. 2 uprights and a small shop vac. They each have a specific set of uses. Posted by: JQ at November 19, 2023 03:47 AM (njWTi) 424
RESPECT MY PRIORITIES
Posted by: Miklos Cartman That is perfect. And for the record, I only have one vacuum. And to celebrate my orderly house I'm going to Albuquerque tomorrow to see the Mavericks at a casino. Okay that's more or less a lie. I'm going to Albuquerque cuz I can gamble, see the mavericks plus some sports ball before the concert. I have a difficult and hard life but somebody has to do it. When I'm hunting deer, I'm keeping them thieving bastards away from the fermenting apples lying in the dirt in the apple tree orchard.
Nailed a four point (8 point for you hillbillies) on my lunch break last Tuesday. Dragged him with the lawnmower to the house to gut him. Had to skin him at 15:00 after work. Too much work ! Too much work. Posted by: Dr. Bone at November 19, 2023 03:53 AM (PbTeh) 426

Posted by: JQ at November 19, 2023 03:47 AM (njWTi) There are at least 8 shop vacs here. The one I use in the wood shop, the one hooked to my glass beader in the garage, a smaller one for the cars, the one for construction, and a smaller dewalt corded one that also runs off a battery I use for quick cleanups. We had a little water in the basement, she comes home with 2 more, one for each end of the basement, because *these* are for water. There was supposed to be storm with power outages 2 months ago, she comes home with another cordless one just in case. I'm ready to paint the frigging things up like R2D2 and have a droid army. Nice deer mount. Should really be mounted on the front fender of the family sedan so people could see it when you drive up and down mainstreet.
