The Saturday Night Joke

Billy Bob and Luther were talking one afternoon, when Billy Bob said, “Ya' know sumthin', Luther, I reckon I'm 'bout ready fur a vacation, only this time I'm gonna' do it little different."

“Last few years," he said, "I took yur advice about where to go. Three years ago, you said to go to Hawaii. I went to Hawaii, and Earline got pregnant. Then two years ago, you told me to go to the Bahamas, and Earline got pregnant again. Last year, you suggested Tahiti, and durned if Earline didn't get pregnant again. I ain't gonna do THAT agin."

Luther asked Billy Bob, "So, what you gonna' do this year that's differnt?"

Billy Bob replied, "This year I'm taking Earline with me." (H/T Hrothgar)

The problem with marketing majors is they don't think through the creative process. Everything looks fine on paper if one doesn't think through these ideas.

Tales being told on social media paint a picture of disaster breaking out at Domino’s pizza shops in response to its “Emergency Pizza” program.

The concept was simple.

In late October, Domino’s found a way to ingratiate itself with anyone having to actually start paying back student loans.

MADELINE KRIPKE’S FIRST DICTIONARY WAS a copy of Webster’s Collegiate that her parents gave her when she was a fifth grader in Omaha in the early 1950s. By the time of her death in 2020, at age 76, she had amassed a collection of dictionaries that occupied every flat surface of her two-bedroom Manhattan apartment—and overflowed into several warehouse spaces. Many believe that this chaotic, personal library is the world’s largest compendium of words and their usage

Everything you wanted to know about the Bird of The Century but were afraid to ask. Yes, The ONT is a Giver....

The organization Forest & Bird in New Zealand hosts the Bird of the Year competition annually, and it's always a fierce competition. This year, the contest was renamed to Bird of the Century to celebrate the organization's 100th anniversary. And the winner is: the pūteketeke!

Also known as the Australasian crested grebe, this bird is known for eating its own feathers in order to puke up parasites. The pūteketeke also has a unique mating dance.

But the competition was not without controversy. The record number of votes prior to this year was 57,000, but this year, more than 350,000 votes came in, mostly due to a campaign by talk show host John Oliver, who pushed for the pūteketeke to win. The bird garnered 290,000 of those votes, even after thousands of fraudulent votes were excluded.

Mental midget has monumental tasks in front of her.

A woman recently started legally changing her last name after getting married.
While surely no one will tell someone during their pre-wedding nervousness about the mess ahead for them in the social security office, more people should know how chaotic taking your spouse's last name can be before they say "I do." Thankfully, one TikTok user, Delanie Kristek (@chiknnuggiesinmytummy), is helping some future spouses learn from her experience.

In September 2023, Delanie, who was recently married, said that "men in heterosexual marriages will never understand the mental load and time invested in changing your last name." She then said she had changed her last name to her husband's on social media, but when she tried to do it the legal way, things became murky.

The Fabulous married me to shorten her maiden name. And to be The Fabulous.

JUST IN - France says it has successfully tested ballistic missile
France said it had successfully tested without a nuclear load the M51.3 strategic ballistic missile on Saturday. The French defence ministry said the launch took place from a site in the Landes region in southwestern France.

The missile was tracked throughout its flight phase and the fallout area was located in the North Atlantic several hundred kilometres from any coast, the ministry added in a statement.

“First successful test firing of an M51.3 strategic ballistic missile!” Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Posted by: Legally Sufficient at November 18, 2023 10:18 PM (Zb5iS)

interesting read, and
1) yes, this does sound like Blinken's plan
2) Levin as usual is reacting a bit too hysterically, I think, because
3) Blinken and Biden have no way to actually make any of the things they want happen. All of us who live here, even us conservatives, have a hard time realizing that thanks to Biden's perceived weakness by *everyone*, America has become pretty irrelevant to how things are going to play out from now on. We did apparently get Iran to back off by a fast show of force at the right time, but even that was more to protect our bases than anything else.

Although I will add he's right in one point, there's not going to be any forcible displacement out of Gaza for any of the civilians; there's just no place that will take them. That's going to be a tough problem for Israel to solve.

Anti-semetism has been a unifying bigotry for millennia. I just thought I'd never see Kristallnacht happen here on college campuses. It's been eye-opening, to say the least, how fast Jew-hatred spreads. You read about pogroms throughout History but to see them happening in real time right in front of one's eyes while seemingly the entire world cheers is crazy stuff.

NEW: US has approved Japan’s request to buy 400 Tomahawk missiles
The United States on Friday approved Japan’s request to buy 400 Tomahawk missiles, part of Tokyo’s bid to bolster defenses despite fresh dialogue with China.

The State Department said it was approving the $2.35 billion sale that includes two types of the Tomahawk missiles, which have a 1,600-kilometer (995-mile) range.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told a parliamentary committee in February that his government was seeking 400 Tomahawk missiles as part of a major defense push.

Japan has been alarmed by China’s growing military clout, including its exercises around Taiwan, as well as by nuclear-armed North Korea’s missile tests.

Local officials suggest couple passed away in sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning
After closely checking the gas appliances at his home, experts found a valve problem that happened when the village had a power outage a week ago. This suggests that the couple probably passed away in their sleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning. This information comes from local officials, as reported by Kommersant.

“When I found out about his death, my heart was heavy. It’s a shame that people of such a rank, who are worthy of attention and respect, go out in this way. It seems to me that this was an absurd death,” Maj. Gen. Vladimir Popov, an acquaintance of the former commander, told the outlet News.ru.

General Sviridov lost his top military position over ten years ago because he frequently criticized the Russian air force. In a 2007 interview with the Russian magazine Take Off, Sviridov strongly expressed dissatisfaction with the pilot training.

154 My solution for sports while not hurting the feelings of the mentally ill would be to change everything to XX and XY chromosome divisions. Then it wouldn't matter what gender the mentally ill called themselves, men couldn't compete against the weaker sex.

But I'm a nerd, not a politician so of course this will never happen. Hmm that would even work for public bathrooms. XX, XY, and private (some stores call em 'family' bathrooms. If you can't reliably pass for the opposite chromosome and would be uncomfortable with your fellow chromosome mates use the private bathroom.

Of course schools would have to teach some basic biology first.

Posted by: CppThis at November 18, 2023 11:23 PM (PZvjL)

It was complicated in the early '90s; drove my -ex crazy. Can't imagine what it's like today. Have a friend who divorced over two years ago and still hasn't changed back to her single name. The hassle is incredible the older you get. So many places to change the name, like credit cards, loans, 401(k)s, annuities, drivers' license, etc. That means all the documentation required to get all that changed. It gets worse if these is real property involved, like with my friend. So many more agencies to deal with. To be honest, I'm not sure she'll ever get around to changing her name back until she retires in a couple of years. I know it bothers her because her Dad died a couple of years ago (not from COVID) and he was upset she still hadn't changed her name back as he hated the prick she married.

NEW: An X executive discloses that the content highlighted in Media Matters' article constituted a mere 50 out of 5,500,000,000 ad impressions served throughout the entire day.

In reality, virtually no authentic users encountered these ads juxtaposed with the mentioned content—except for Media Matters' employees, who intentionally exploited the system to locate such material.

How did Media Matters achieve this?

They created three new accounts, each following only a small number of accounts posting objectionable material.

By relentlessly refreshing their timeline—13 times more frequently than an average user—they were able to capture screenshots of major corporate advertisements alongside the targeted content.

This revelation exposes Media Matters' calculated strategy: generating these screenshots as leverage to compel major advertisers to withdraw their ads from X.

306 My maiden name is... difficult to spell if you've only heard it spoken, and difficult to pronounce if you're only reading it. So--

1st marriage, was *so happy* to change my last name to something easy! Then, divorce. Ugh. Asked exH if he'd mind if I kept his last name. No problem, we would be living hundreds of miles apart after our divorce.

2nd marriage, changed my last name to his. Super-duper simple, 5-letter name! And then... divorce. I will not even refer to him by name-- he is simply "number two". Didn't want to be associated in any way with him, yes it was *that bad*! So I reclaimed my maiden name.

When changing one particular account, the lady asked me:
"so, you want to change your last name from this... to... THIS? Oh, for heaven's sake WHY???"

I LOL'd!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDRbF80NKDU

In Dec of 1969, when that song was released, I was 21, in basic training at Ft Benning Ga. I remember serving guard duty one night as a pickup truck driver for the Officer in charge of the guard. It was a rainy night in Ga, while I was driving back from making a delivery run, and that song came on the radio in the truck. I knew Vietnam was in my near future, and it felt like it was raining all over the world.

His knowledge ain't been "mothballed", any more than the concrete foundation under a house has been "buried".

EVERYTHING stands on that which men built with steel, concrete, wooden forms, skill and sweat. The entire HOUSE, and all who have ever, do, or will ever live within it's walls.

Pooky's FOUNDATION not only carries the new Rivet Joint tech, it's also that which allows so many smaller airframes to carry the condensed versions of his tech, into the tactical RIGHT NOW world of "see it, SHOOT IT" I.D. and response.

397 Bubba 33 came to Las Cruces this week. You would think the place was giving out $100 bills given the size of the lines.

In other news, Our Las Cruces favorite football team, the NMSU Aggies who 2 years ago was ranked 125th, has a 9-3 record, is playing for the CUSA championship, has a bowl game on the way, and today knocked off Auburn 31 to 10. The score doesn't begin to describe what a beat down it was ; it was a beautiful thing. I expect them to be ranked in the high 30s to low 40s after this. Even better is this game was a setup where they were supposed to get crushed and for the pleasure of pounding them to pieces Auburn paid them $1.7 million. That didn't work out. #AggieUp.

Oooh I just got one of those 2 months ago. Mrs B blew up the old washer like I never seen one blow up. It was bad. It was soooo out of balance by the time I heard the noise and got to the laundry room I saw this steel casing come flying out of the laundry room and landed on the floor. It was completely sideways. no outer casing, and there were concrete fragments laying in the tub from her grenading the weight blocks, and when i tried to start it just hummed until the motor overheated. I told her you're getting a frigging speed queen this time. Its great, not a lot of whistles and bells but its great.

410 When I moved from Rio rancho to Las Cruces I took the washer and dryer that were in the townhome when I bought it. Because I'm an idiot I didn't prevent the washer tank from banging around when it was in the back of the moving truck. This led to a hole in the tank. Remarkably, I discovered this causes water to go all over the place. $1500 later I had a new washer and dryer. For the record, I have the spacer that goes in the tank in case I move again out in the garage. The good news is I may be an idiot but generally not twice on the same subject.

There are at least 8 shop vacs here. The one I use in the wood shop, the one hooked to my glass beader in the garage, a smaller one for the cars, the one for construction, and a smaller dewalt corded one that also runs off a battery I use for quick cleanups. We had a little water in the basement, she comes home with 2 more, one for each end of the basement, because *these* are for water. There was supposed to be storm with power outages 2 months ago, she comes home with another cordless one just in case. I'm ready to paint the frigging things up like R2D2 and have a droid army.
