Thankfully, my blood pressure is either normal or low. I've had tinnitus for a long time, since I was a teen. Probably genetic (Dad has it). Also, those rock concerts I went to in the 90s probably didn't help. My USAF job (also 90s) was pretty noisy too.

My law firm had an office in the grandiosely-named Arc De Triomphe Building in Tianjin. From a distance it was a relatively imposing-looking building.

When you get up close you see stains, missing grout, cracked stone facing, filthy windows, and broken fixtures. Usually only one of the elevators worked.

Speaking of hell on Earthy, I watched a low budget film the other day: Stakeland.

How to summarize: It's The Walking Dead, with vampires. Almost beat for beat, in a 90 something minute movie. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great cinema either. Worth a watch, if you like dystopian stories, and don't want to sit through 11 seasons of a show that had about 3 seasons worth of material.

There are none because of the govt. The way CAFE standards work, manufacturers have no incentive to sell a small truck. It's kinda fucked up, but the formulas work against small trucks. It's more of an incentive to sell a gigantic Expedition than a small truck.

Here's a great recipe.

2 to 3 lb chuck roast.
2 tbsp
adobe seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder powder
1 tbsp papkrika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp onion powder

Combine all spices in a bowl. Cut beef into 2 to 3 chunks and mix with spice blend. Put 3/4 cup of water in crockpot add beef chunks and add the beef cook covered for 6 hours on low. After 6 hours shred beef with fork . Then let beef cook another hour.

Use the beef any way you want to.

It is so delicious!

Toyota has been teasing their intent to bring back the Stout nameplate, and there's lots of speculation about it, with nobody really knowing.

Apparently they unveiled some sort of test model in Japan, but it's likely not the thing that will become the Stout, because that's more like a Subaru thingy, more of a car with a pickup bed.

Rumors are the Stout will sell in the low 20s, but again, nobody really knows.

A $10k truck would suffer such penalties that it would cost as much as a full size truck. Large trucks require less fuel efficiency and the penalties (if any) are lost in the price.

Speaking of hell on Earthy, I watched a low budget film the other day: Stakeland.

How to summarize: It's The Walking Dead, with vampires. Almost beat for beat, in a 90 something minute movie. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great cinema either. You don't even need the fuel coating, a small enough grain and it will burn explosively. A chem teacher in high school had some fern spores he bought for the demo. Had the class get close, it a burner on a plie of the stuff and no burning. Then he flipped the spores up off the card and in the air and a huge fireball over the desk scared everyone half to death since it was about a foot or less away.

There's a template into which you are required to fit your story. You can play around with it, inside the structure to make it your own, but you gotta stay in the boundaries.

You don't even need the fuel coating, a small enough grain and it will burn explosively. A chem teacher in high school had some fern spores he bought for the demo. Had the class get close, it a burner on a plie of the stuff and no burning. Then he flipped the spores up off the card and in the air and a huge fireball over the desk scared everyone half to death since it was about a foot or less away.

Barbara Hambly has a series on vampires starting with "Those that Hunt the Night" set in London. It starts out simple enough but then the vampires "hire" a professor to investigate who is murdering the vampires. He's being blackmailed at first but soon sees what is doing this as a threat too. Lots of insight into the practical life of a vampire, their evolution with time. The series has grown with time and I haven't read them all but the first one is a great book.

The lava plains in the Pacific Northwest were made when tensional tectonics opened bug rifts in the crust, and lave welled up from the mantle. And then stopped. The mid-ocean ridges are in it for the duration.

Yeah, they had made it through an entire football game without a shooting*, and IIRC the visiting band director thought it would be a great idea to continue to play for 20 minutes in the home team's stadium after the home team had lost.

* This isn't a joke. I know it's not reported on and people aren't supposed to discuss it, but shootings are culturally routine at diverse high school football games. The funny part was to see the band director attempting to engage in a similar type of behavior at his professional level because that is the culture. And then to fight the cops. And get tased. Iceland's got a hot spot under it, like Yellowstone. its more volatile than that, and 21000 earthquakes are definitely considered a warning. Normal spreading ridges are a lot quieter, they are all over the place and pretty near the West coast of the US as the continent runs them over heading away from Iceland.

It has gone off a few times in the last X million years, they can see the calderas in the Oregon/Washington state as the continent runs over it. Tends to cover the Midwest in meters of ashfall and wipe out everthing in about a one state radius. (big, western states)

I haven't heard it being as frisky as Iceland seems to bee though.

I remember when as a kid Science said the moon might have ripped out of the earth, because the Pacific is kind of moon-sized. Then they said that that couldn't happen for various reasons. Then they decided that continental drift wasn't a crank theory after all, and the Pacfic has been different sizes over time.

Now they are all in on a collision forming the moon and earth. I'm starting to believe they are winging it most of the time.

and don't get me started on Dark matter.

I think current tale is that something bigger than the moon came close, and a chunk was captured and the rest became the Moon. Now I did see a story that they's seen some wierd stuff down in the bottom of the mantle, near the core, but actually investigating and proving matters don't happen much anymore.

One fun fact is that as the continents move the ocean crust is pushed under and down into the mantle and they used to think they melted. But now they have spotted ribbons of old seafloor folded up into loops extending down and down to the lower mantle still there.

Our moon is the only moon that isn't really completely orbiting us. Its so far out that the sun's gravity is always stronger than ours is. It's more a co-planet than an actual moon.

As you noted above, I think we don't really know exactly what's going on. Maybe we'll figure it out, before we destroy the place. Or God resets the timer.

I can't help but thinking though, if we see what we see now on the surface, we also know the inside is boiling and reforming everything. There's no good reason to believe this version of the crust is the first one, that the whole thing hasn't been turned over, maybe a bazillion times already.

Many moons ago as a midshipman, I did an internship with the USCG office of marine inspection in Philadelphia. I accompanied the inspectors boarding a Cypriot bulk sugar vessel. The condition of the cargo is why I don't use sugar much anymore but the condition of the living quarters was appalling. The master had his own little thing going on his deck for food and bathing, etc, but the crew lived in squalor. The ship was a US 1950's US cargo ship but had been let gone to hell. All the galley walk in boxes were disgusting and the crew cooked on a charcoal fire on the gallery's tile floor. In the engine room, the shaft alley was flooded above the shaft and bearings. One of the Coasties calculated that the ship would sink in about 5 hours if the bilge pumps ever failed. As it turned out we seized the ship, fined the company and made them repatriat the crew.

307 Boss and I went to lunch today. He was 1st Cav in Desert Storm. I was in Germany, because my battalion was Lance missile (nuke capable). We had a drink of Bulleit Rye.

He and I are the only ones left in our office who served. We are surrounded by punks.

But I would never recommend military service to a young person given how shitty everything is.

I am in a mood now.
