Yes, the army is so concerned about "diversity" that it turned its backs on families with up to seven generations of military service, dating back to the Revolutionary War, in favor of recruiting from families with no prior interest in the military.

Army Secretary Christine Wormuth said she expects within weeks to begin drafting a proposal for a recruiting overhaul so sweeping that Congress might need to pass legislation to enact all of it.
Depending too much on military families could create a "warrior caste," Wormuth said. Her plans seek to draw in people who have no real connection to the military and to broaden the appeal of service.
There are sixth and seventh-generation military families. There is a 'warrior caste' insofar as you have families who have fought for this country since the War of Independence. They showed up, they bled, and now they're to be replaced by drag queens and identity politics quotas.
"The Army is strategically deploying recruiters to communities across the country based on demographics, ethnicity, race, and gender," Wormuth had claimed in a written statement.

Tree Hugging Sister also notes that the Army has drastically reduced its standards for recruitment:

Besides relaxing physical standards almost to the point of non-existence, starting a separate pre-bootcamp bootcamp for fat bodies who swear they want to be soldiers, allowing persons with formerly disqualifying psychiatric issues like ADHD, clinical depression, and transgender issues to enlist, and throwing bonuses into the wind, the Army still can't make their numbers.

Now, unlike leftwing incompetents who eat ideology and shit out catastrophe, you are capable of taking these data points and projecting into the future, so this will probably not shock you: The army is facing a recruiting crisis so serious it's issuing "chaotic" orders to reservists to show up for school within weeks, Thanksgiving be damned.

By the way, they've been in crisis for a long time; why did they wait until now to do anything about it?

The Army is rushing to push noncommissioned officers into its recruiting school after graduating only half the number of recruiters this year that the classes are capable of producing, according to service data reviewed by Military.com.
The eight-week Army Recruiter Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky, can train a maximum of 2,866 students across a total of 53 classes. However, data shows that it graduated only 1,336 in fiscal 2023, which concluded at the end of September.
A sudden and chaotic string of orders for NCOs to immediately fill 800 seats at the recruiting school has roiled the Army in recent days. On Monday, 200 of them started classes after being given a week's notice, though some soldiers' orders to the school were canceled due to media coverage and local chains of command that were irritated by the short notice.
It's not uncommon for military schools to miss student enrollment targets. But falling so significantly short set off alarms among Army planners that the service was losing far more recruiters than it was bringing in -- amid one of the worst recruiting crises in recent memory.
As the number of soldiers responsible for getting more Americans to enlist drops dramatically, the Army remains locked in a historic struggle to bring in recruits, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. It just reported coming up 10,000 soldiers short of its goal of 65,000 new troops over the past fiscal year. Last year, it missed a goal of 60,000 soldiers by 15,000.

The actual shortfall in manpower could be larger.
"We're short 30,000 people in the active Army right now," Sgt. Maj. Chris Stevens, the top enlisted leader for personnel policy, said on an Army livestream Saturday, referring to the total number of soldiers the Army needs at a minimum to fill the ranks. "That's two divisions worth of people."

So facing this historic crisis, suddenly the Army is dropping its appeals to #Diversity and running ads featuring a lot of white guys:

Huh? This is nonsensical. The military is not a career for most military men - it's a time-bound stint. You do your service and leave. Then you're ex-military.

We don't have classes - or even families - that are devoted to soldiering and for whom soldiering is the legacy career of all members going back generations.

People have longer memories about certain things, and I think this is an area where the memory might be fairly long. Joining the military is a very serious decision and almost everyone signing on that line knows it. It's a minimum of two years - prime years - in which you lose your freedom and, if war breaks out, expose yourself to mortal peril. It's a big choice, and big choices tend to make for long memories.

How many people will remember that just a short time ago, they were pieces of shit? How likely are they to trust that those attitudes are actually gone and won't be returning? How many people will look at the declining security posture and think it's temporary?

I've worked in my State National Guard's recruiting unit...normally, recruiting is the State's #1 mission, recruiters that can't meet their mission are quickly fired (reassigned to other, more traditional, units), and new recruiters sent to school as soon as possible.

My state, like almost all in the 54 (states and territories), is struggling to meet recruiting goals (and increase retention, as tons of people are LEAVING).

I wonder, then, if some commands are slowing the rate they get recruiters, or trying to stay slightly understrength on them? No commander WANTS to relieve recruiters, so if the quota remains high, and number of applicants remains low, maybe the overall number recruited stays about the same, but a higher percent of recruiters are actually meeting their goal for the year?

That's a bad sign, if it's the explanation.

Almost to a man, the people I served with had a father or close family member who served. It has been their most successful recruiting pool. This is madness. 193 My daughter went through basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood this summer. I'm not entirely thrilled she joined US Army, but her life.

She's extremely fit. She plays competitive soccer, runs daily, etc. She was actually TOO THIN to join at first, and had to put some weight on.

Her experience at boot camp was, in her own words, pathetic. There were no fitness requirements. You could get a waiver for any standard by raising your hand. They did two mile "runs" that were really slightly fast walks, and even by the end of basic a third or more of her platoon would fall out from a 2 mile "run" for being too exhausted.

They show commercials of recruits doing 500 pushups in the mud in a pouring rain - bullshit. The slightest inclement weather and they stay inside all day. Most recruits on graduation still can't do 40 pushups. The most rigorous ordeals were the marches with rucksack, which were 7, 10, and 12 miles each. Not bad, but hardly world-conquering.

Yes there are fit, patriotic, well-motivated soldiers in her class, but no more than half. And that is half of an already greatly diminished lot.

It's my best explanation. Normally, if you're not meeting your recruiting mission, and you're short of recruiters, you'd pull out all the stops to fill those empty positions, get them trained, and get them recruiting. Why, then, during a major (extended) recruiting shortfall, is the recruiter qualification course so incredibly poorly attended?

As for cooking the books...the State National Guards ALL do it. Someone retires, or resigns, and they'll hold the paperwork and keep them on the books until after October 1st, the start of the new fiscal year. Let's them (hopefully) meet strength goals for the previous year, but means they start the next year further behind.

The new physical fitness test, the ACFT, after significant reworking, is much easier to pass than the old APFT. And, if I recall correctly, you can now graduate boot camp without a passing score...they need more soldiers in the field, and if it's important enough, they figure the unit will continue to train the soldier.

408 If the purpose of the army is to fight foreign wars, you need a certain set of skills and a certain mentality. If the purpose of the army is to crush internal dissent, you need a different set of skills and a different mentality.
I don't see any set of circumstances under which the American army, as it is, will ever fight another foreign war, even to support an ally. It is too politically risky to give such an order. The job of the bureaucracy is to say no. Foreign enemies know they will get more by subversion than by fighting a nuclear war, so they won't attack the US.
It will take a regime change (from republic to empire, I think) before the US army fights another war.

411 I think covid was just one of many points where people bailed out of the military or previous plans to join. Forcing service members and recruits to get the jab or face an other than honorable discharge was a real wake up to potential candidates who may have missed all the other woke nonsense. Now they can’t make quotas because the word is out. I’m the latest generation of one of those “six or seven generation” families and I’ve campaigned hard to dissuade young people from joining this DEI encounter group circle jerk masquerading as our armed services. Whether its covid jabs, DEI, sex-change operations-for-everyone or all-of-the-above there is absolutely no reason for normal people to serve in our military.

414 Members of my family have served in the U.S. military since the [1st] American Civil War: Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. They've been wounded at Kennesaw Mountain, Okinawa, and Vietnam.

The Old Man was a career Navy officer, and both my brother and I were in the Army. However, I will not encourage my grandsons to serve.

The people at the top are buffoons and are going to get a lot of good people killed.
