I've been fortunate enough to go on a couple of game drives in South Africa in Pilanesberg National Park. One of the best things I've ever done. All sorts of animals but my favorite were the elephants. And yea, the whole herd protects the babies.

Our tour vehicle got charged by a bull who the game warden told us was in musth, horny. He had a couple females with him and was not happy that we stopped to look at them. He was enormous, much taller than the vehicle.

We are doing OK. Had to resolve some temporary health issues. The school's COVID-19 Wuhan protocols kept me away for 5 days, but I could have worked all but the first day.

That body was damn near indestructible. The shutter going off sounded like a gunshot but other than that, loved that body.

A new H.E.B. opened up last week and Her Majesty and I went there today. It's a very nice store, well stocked, unlike the Kroger we go to which never seems to have what we're looking for.

I don't know if they're running opening specials, but I was shocked at the discrepancy in the prices we usually pay. A loaf of Pepperidge Farms bread was $3.49 vs. the $4,79 we've been paying.

Remember when they had orthochromatic film, which was not sensitive at all to red light? You could develop it in a tray with a red safelight on in the darkroom. Then panchromatic B&W film came along, which you had to develop in total darkness. I don't thnk I ever shot a roll of ortho film, but I did shoot many rolls of Tri-X pan.

The F2 is iconic. I preferred the F3, and had a few of Nikon's 'lesser' bodies. Canon made excellent cameras as well. The Nikon 180 was my favorite lens.

Some years ago I was at an event honoring WWII POWs. There were only 6 or 7 of them left. They'd been meeting for years, but this was to be the last of their reunions, because there were so few of them left.

Pretty freakin' awesome, in the grandest sense of that word, to be in the presence of these men. Last of the living, who came as close to anybody to making the ultimate sacrifice.

Hezbollah can of course mount a significant missile attack, but now that Israeli reserves are called up and in defensive positions, they have no chance of going anywhere on the ground - they waited too long for that.
And if they launch a missile attack, they will get one back.

And if they launch an attack, they've already signaled it won't just be against Israel. But there's still a good chance this is just blowhard wishcasting; they may announce "mobilization" to get people excited, but do nothing of signicance.

257 Nikon F2a Uber Alles. Definitely a step up from the Pin & Claw metering connection, the AI/S lens' aperture connection to the metering head was simple, fast, intuitive. Sold all, alas, in 2003.

Went more than a decade without any kind of SLR, till I bought this slightly used Nikon Df, a fully digital era DSLR (using the same sensor as the 2013 D-4 flagship). The topside and front controls are near-perfect mimics of a 1980s Nikon FM. All the digital "magic" is pretty much on the back of the body.

So, my muscle memory in operating Nikons since the 1970s, remains current. Well, almost all. They did shift the aperture control from the lens ring to a small, front mounted dial on the body. I can live with it.

Lenses (for now) are the 28-105 f3.5/4.5 AF/D Nikkor, the 70-300 f/4.5 AF/D Nikkor, and a fully manual Tokina RMC 17mm f/3.5 rectilinear wide-angle. Flash, is Nikon SB-700.

I'm TRYING to not get sucked back into the world of fast primes. But a should a minty, vintage 105 f/2.5 or 85 f/1.8 come my way?

And while a '15 can carry the gross weight of either of the Brit Bombs, it has no physical location with room to carry the dimensions or bulk.

Franky, nowdays, I have no idea of the construct of U.S. bunker bustin' toys. But I hope they've stepped up their game since those Gulf War days.
