Rumor: McConnell and His Top Liberal RINO Allies Are Planning a Coordinated Smear Campaign Against Tommy Tuberville Tonight

Tuberville is refusing to give his consent to unanimously approving military promotions without vetting. He's doing this to protest the Pentagon's completely-illegal use of taxpayer money for abortions -- that is expressly illegal due to the Hyde Act, but the Pentagon has decided, like the armies of most tyrannical regimes -- to openly flout the law -- but he's also stopping a huge number of woke ideologues from further burrowing into what is left of our once-proud, once-mighty military.

McConnell and his allies are determined to destroy Tuberville for upholding the law and for sticking up for the pro-life cause, which liberal corporate Republicans of course hate. They want us all to be perfect little Corporate Robots, and children are so inconvenient to that!

Mollie
@MZHemingway

I'm hearing McConnell deputies and allies, including Lindsay Graham, Joni Ernst, Todd Young, and Dan Sullivan, told colleagues today they're planning an attack on Tommy Tuberville's hold on military promotions, modeled after Elizabeth Warren's attack a few months ago. Tuberville has blocked unaccountable, review-free unanimous consent for military promotions -- all due to the Pentagon's completely illegal abortion funding policy. During his hold on this easy approval (that would otherwise occur without even a vote) it's been discovered that more than 40% of the nominees are beholden to DEI and other left-wing ideology at odds with an effective fighting force. The plan to run interference for Biden admin and its woke Pentagon is reportedly scheduled for 6p tonight. Just fyi. We'll see who exactly is involved and what happens.

Waller, a friend, has a book coming out in January: Big Intel: How the CIA and FBI Went from Cold War Heroes to Deep State Villains.

Anything the government touches is inherently political simply because the government is involved.

When people say, "Get politics out of this government thing," what they really mean is, "You're not allowed to argue this particular sacred cow because I don't have good arguments in support of it."

Some ditzy fan-boi thought he would ask for an autograph or something. Mrs. Knight gently stopped the guy and said, very politely, "Maybe another time would be better. We're just here to shop."

An impressive display of tact.

Like all security forces in a totalitarian system, the FBI (and the others) are organs of state security. They don't answer to Biden, they defend the Party as such. Like in other countries - the USSR, Red China, Venezuela, South Africa, etc. - the State and the Party have merged. The police and intelligence forces are there to defend that Complex from *all* comers. It is always this way.

166 Too bad that Baseball might be dying. I love Baseball. I have nothing but contempt for the MLB and haven't watched it since they went whole-hog on BLM and other bullshit a few years back. I used to subscribe to MLB.tv, go to games, etc. I don't anymore. They think I'm a piece of shit, so screw 'em.

The moment an enterprising Korean or Japanese person realizes that they can get cash money by having streaming services available in the US with an English-language interface (and no dependency on ESPN or the like), I will happily prove him right. I'll watch Oriental ball over BLM/gay/trans/etc.-fellating American ball.

Yes, because the emphasis on home runs has not led to massive increases in viewership while also making games longer.

/me shrugs. I never cared as much about that as most people seem to.

I think it's silly. If the pitcher isn't in the order, just change the rule so that pitchers don't bat. The DH - like the pinch hitter that was used almost all the time anyway - is just a weird fiction. The pitcher hits or he doesn't. The rule - formal in one league, informal in the other - has for a long time now been "the pitcher doesn't hit."

The DH is just a fiction anyway, to prevent a rule change that the pitcher just doesn't have to go. The whole thing is silly and I basically don't care which version of the fiction is preferred at any given time.

332 I think it's silly.

Well the 8 player lineup would have been a smarter solution than the DH, which was a way to keep old sluggers around to 'build offense' just when offense was about to explode anyhow due to previous rule changes about mound height in the late 60s.

Pitchers still bat in the NL, unless I missed that rule change.

_______________

Thanks to the AWFLs, and the illegals. The attraction is that soccer takes no skill to play. Six year-olds can play, running around furiously kicking at the ball. Soccer takes skill to play well.

Contrast the American sports: baseball, football, and basketball. If you can't hit, catch, and throw, baseball is no fun. If you can't pass and catch passes, football (touch football) is no fun. If you can't shoot, basketball is no fun.

It's like the difference between tennis and racquetball. Any idiot can play racquetball (poorly) and have fun, but if you can't consistently serve, and return service, tennis is hopelessly boring.

One thing is the elimination of double headers. The other thing is expanding the playoffs so too many dang teams are in it. We aren't at the point the NHL was in in the 80s when 16 out of 20 teams made the playoffs...but its bad when the series goes on so long.

Every single successful politician has a cult of personality around them at some level. Think Elizabeth Warren doesn't have fans who think she can't do any wrong? Or AOC? Or Mitch? Or Alan West?

Having seen politicians up and close for years, I cut them a little slack, not much but a little. People that are fine with losing are not the sort of person that become a serious contender for the presidency anyway. Drives even the best to counterproductive behavior--e.g. Nixon's won't have me to kick around anymore loss to Jerry Brown for example.

The funniest ones are the ones that dreamt of running but never actually had the guts to go to the arena and fight it out. They are always the perpetual, "I coulda been a contendah!!!" afterwards.

Things like that happen when you try and fit a ballpark in a city block. Some parts don't fit, and if you have a short fence there you bust windows in the facing buildings and everyone hits homers there, so you build a big wall.

The Polo Grounds were build on an oval stand for polo, with the result that dead center was almost 500 feet and the two foul lines were pretty close. Which is why Willy Mays running down that Vic Wertz fly ball and getting a throw to the cutoff man was such an amazing thing.

In the very early days some fields had like infinite space in the outfield and no stands there

The first alternative league was formed when the NL banned beer and whiskey in the stands in the 1880s. They even had world series'. Its interesting watching them evolve the 'natural' format for a world series. In one year they travelled to all the stadiums in the league and more long past one team had won the series into late october until nobody showed up....kinda like this year.

In Europe, and most of the world, football (soccer) is the number one team sport, followed by rugby football, cricket, in no particular order.

Another way to tell is to look at what children play when in a small group (other than organized sports). Here in the USA it's basketball. Almost universally elsewhere it's soccer.

Radio news yesterday said polls in Iowa have Haley moved up 11pts to tie with DeSantis. Ugh.

448 I haven't attended an MLB game in years, but I hear that beers cost $20 for a 12oz. lite beer. The beer is $17 and, btw, keep the change.
Posted by: gourmand du jour at November 02, 2023 04:20 PM (MeG8a)

It’s not MLB alone.
Any event at a big league stadium, be it sports, concert, monster truck rally, whatever,
Beer is $20. And a hot dog is $14 and a bottle of water is $8.

457 I would have been fine w/ either DeSantis or Trump. But DeSantis siding w/ the left on the sham trials going on is really pushing it.

DeSantis surrounded himself w/ GOPe/Jeb! hacks and now it shows.

I think some of DeSantis folks are actually ex Cruz folks and the Jeb/GOPe have moved on to their true love--Nikki from SC.

458 Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's always been so, but I don't recall the GOP being such flaccid pantywaists, trying to get even on behalf of their former selves in high school gym class.

You missed the Reagan years ?

459 >>I was surprised to find that out while playing left field in the Red Sox facility.

One of my high school friends got a summer job helping work the left field scoreboard on the Monster at Fenway. He literally got paid to go to watch baseball games.

queerdom? that is a lib worship word. you shall not speak it!

Posted by: cloud williamette at November 02, 2023 04:24 PM (oY6Yp)

461 That's wrong.
In Europe, and most of the world, football (soccer) is the number one team sport, followed by rugby football, cricket, in no particular order.
Think Football Pools.

Because everywhere in the world most people are poor. So the number 1 sport is the sport liked by poor people.

Mississippi has a higher GDP per capita than the UK. Europe is poor as fuck relative to the US.

The "nerds in charge" vibe always came from the Left side of the aisle. But we're seeing it weekly from current leadership.

Twas always thus for the GOP. The exceptions are few but the uniparty squishes are many. Despite being well to the left of center in his presidency on domestic policy, Nixon still got stabbed in the back by the Dems and his uniparty buddies pining for a Rockefeller, Romney Sr squish.

463 I was a kid in the 80s so yeah I guess I did miss it. But from what I have read about it, plenty of conservatives and voters of his criticized him on many issues. You can love Reagan and still think he did some stupid shit. It’s logical to think in 8 years nobody is perfect.

Trump on the other hand never did anything wrong, it was either MCConnell that made him do it or the deep state or whatever. His heart was always pure. That’s the difference.

Posted by: Montec at November 02, 2023 04:28 PM (P5BwU)

464 I've played in tournaments in Florida at the Red Sox training facility, which has its own Green Monster. You'd think the Green Monster would make for a really short left field. It doesn't. The Green Monster is about 310' or so from home plate, i.e., the same distance Yankee Stadium is in right field, with no White Monster.

I was surprised to find that out while playing left field in the Red Sox facility.
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at November 02, 2023 04:15 PM (dkP80)

I think the issue isn't so much at the line, but in left center were it still is about 310-320 ish and not 350 or something, where the right hander has maximum distance on fly balls.

Reminds me of 1980 GOP primaries. Gerald Ford was too cowardly or comfortable to run but his acolytes were out there pushing whoever they could find as the anti-Reagan. Ended up being Bush and being forced onto Reagan's ticket to keep the peace with the East Coast GOPe. Reagan wanted Laxalt from NV who would have been a far better choice.

They used to use the home teams rules in the WS for some decades after its first use in the WS in 1976. In recent times they went to all DH because why not screw with even lame traditions like that one.

476 Mitch McConnell is a scumbag human being and pure evil. I will not wish ill will upon him but until the G.O.P. comes to term about the disaster he's been for the United States, much less their stinking political party, nothing will stop the shared slide to oblivion.
So BRAVO to Senator Tubberville for showing Mitch's line of sycophants just how to take a stand. BRAVO!!!
