Good evening, horde!
My bulldogs had a very exciting Halloween hanging out on the porch with me. I was afraid the kids would be afraid of them (they were behind a gate, but barked a lot), but 80% begged to pet them. Doggehs were very happy. Posted by: Dash my lace wigs! at October 31, 2023 07:48 PM (OX9vb) 22
Willowed:
Soon, the porch light goes off. The number of kids has dwindled over the last 20 years. Started at about 30 each Halloween, and now is down to...zero, so far. Disappointing, as I enjoy seeing them in their costume, and enjoying themselves. Also, it leaves a LOT of chocolate candy to be consumed. They pay for a Galveston P.D. on-duty officer & Chebby Tahoe, to block vehicle access into the community. But the po' n' stahvin' urchins (escorted by parents wearing $100s in tennis shoes, pristine NBA caps, enough fake eyelashes and gallons of makeup as to repaint the USS Texas), all stroll through those gates. I've been in my house for 21 years this November. Been hanging out in the neighborhood for 48ish, half my friends lived in the area. I've seen a lot come and go. Had more contact with some of my friends parents in their passing than they ever did.
Now it's mostly Mexicans. The lots are big so a lot of landscaping companies have moved in. Trucks and trailers fill the parking on both sides of half my street. Grandkids are here!!!! Posted by: Reforger at October 31, 2023 08:12 PM (B705c) 105

personally I've gotten used to the Smell of Death but maybe the kids aren't accustomed to it yet. Posted by: ace at October 31, 2023 08:08 PM Had that happen once, the freezer was not dead, but the GFI outlet it was on popped. So I had to clean it. I have gutted many wild game creatures, never a problem. The smell in that freezer was something from hell. First started with bleach, then, Lots of baking soda and water spray, Then dawn dish soap, then some lemon juice spray. Then I left it in the garage for a month and it was fine. But the thought of that smell. Yea, I don't think it was the skull mask scaring them away. Posted by: Minnfidel at October 31, 2023 08:13 PM (GwxCX) 110

Whenever you devise a welfare program that relies on a growing population you will require new citizens to support those, especially when your own population is aborting children by the millions

Had two kids at the door. Gave them each a handful of candy because they bothered to show up.

I like the look of M-113 APCs probably because I grew up in the '60s and '70s seeing them on TV; and the Patton tanks, IIRC, in the Battle of the Bulge movie, courtesy of the Spanish Army.

>>Whenever you devise a welfare program that relies on a growing population you will require new citizens to support those, especially when your own population is aborting children by the millions Yeah, it's a simple as that and the massive increases of immigration all over the Western World is to support this concept. Which is actually pretty awesome...but I am left with a bunch of candy bars that somebody is going to have to eat.

Posted by: nurse ratched at October 31, 2023 09:08 PM (NBGQS) I haven't heard the Dbacks called the Danger Noodles before. I guess I don't watch enough baseball any more. I used to watch every televised game I could. I am still astounded Arizona team ownership respected the voting by the locals and named the team the Diamondbacks. A merciless pit viper. Insane. Posted by: andycanuck (krqg6) at October 31, 2023 09:49 PM (krqg6) M47 Patton tanks. I was in my late teens before I discovered what a Tiger tank and an 88mm gun actually looked like. From buying the Ballentine WW2 history series books that were published beginning in the early 70s. Posted by: Gref at October 31, 2023 10:01 PM (5fDan) 402
When we went trick or treating I saw a couple of weird costumes on older kids and adults that reminded me so much of the 70s "superhero mask and torso with picture of superhero and name of superhero" costumes posted here the other night (and of my childhood, although I don't remember any specific).
They were Friday the 13th "costumes", except they were just t-shirts that said "Camp Crystal Lake" or whatever the name was, with a 13 on the back. It really was a modern day version of those plastic costumes we wore in 3rd grade. I like the UK and Commonwealth Centurion MBT too that also just missed WW2.
