First-World Problems...

NOW WHAT?

That may be the first flower...ever...from this African Violet ~~dumped on~~ graciously given to us by a niece. Its progenitor is a plant lovingly kept by a great-aunt for about 800 years, so killing it (which is the default in this home) is not an option.

But the next step is...freezing it in liquid nitrogen? Over-fertilizing it? Putting it in a closet? Planting it outside just after the first frost?

No, my FWP is dealing with the various people who must come and go in the process, people who perform one task or another. This morning I was contacted by the guy who will blow out my sprinklers for the season.

How to pay him? Well, I discovered today my banks have stopped doing the direct transfer of money, except to send an electronic check, like one would with a utility. No more Venmo, no more Pop Money.

So this guy asks if I do Cash App. No, I don't. Because my phone is a phone, it's not to be used for that shite. I don't do Apple Pay, or any other thing that wants me to give over access to my bank accounts. Except my banks.

This guy tells me he doesn't have a bank account, so he can't even do a paper check. WTF? Dude, how do you live?

I realize there are people who are doing this life, very differently than us 29 year olds. For various reasons.

I walked towards the front of my house last night at 11 and was shocked to hear loud yelling through the door - this is a quiet residential neighborhood with very calm neighbors, so I was thinking WTF?" Looked out and saw that this 30 something white couple (who I had never seen before) had stopped their car in front of the neighbors house, piled out and started a knock-down drag-out right in the middle of the street. I would have worried about the woman except the guy, who was doing most of the vulgar shouting, was on his hands and knees most of the time since he was clearly too drunk to even stand up. (cont'd)

Flex Tape, if it will float a boat it will seal your water container.
I would search UToob. If nothing satisfactory, OH, a thought,
utoob krazy glue, then krazy glue - baking soda. There are some interesting things.

Otherwise I would used my glue gun then tape it.

Paid to have a new motor installed and about 3 months later it stuck, up, luckily. When that way for a year. Took the truck in for some minor thing and the guy slammed, slammed the door, & from that day on the window goes up and down. Ass hoe slammed the door.

55 I don't make time to tend flower beds but I do enjoy seeing flowers. My solution has been to not mow or pull the flowering weeds during the summer. I only attack weeds that have stickers in some form; which is many around here with sandy soil and an arid climate.

A ride manager in the area solved things by having fun plastic flowers around her barn.

Unplugged/replugged twice, same problem each time. Unplugged it. Returned an hour later. Banged on it hard with my hand about 6 times, plugged it in, works fine.

Power are a PITA. Could be wires, could be motor. Slamming the door does work, sometimes...

My four door they are/have gone bad in reverse frequency of use. So I think they have a tendency to seize up if not exercised frequently and door slamming may jar them lose.

Use the correct fertilizer adding it to the water reservoir. After blooming snip off the spent blooms and fertilize it again. Rinse and repeat. I kill all houseplants. This method worked for me.

That might be the case. Rarely try to put the windows down, and the passenger side even less than the driver's.

109 AV's are my favorite houseplant/flower and I have had the pleasure of growing some spectacular specimens. Decades ago in another state I had the best filtered light in my living room which is what AV's like. Water from the bottom, putting h20 on a saucer but don't oversoak, and don't get h2o on the leaves. I put a squirt of AV food in the water maybe once every two months. I had singles, doubles, and double ruffles. The flower crown was 7-8 inches. They were beautiful. You can have a beautiful AV as well. Don't fuss over them.

I see Halloween as a defining event in fall, the date upon which - once it passes - I no longer GAF if leaves are in the street, in my driveway, up the walkway to my front door.

The little ones are invited to my doorstep to receive their allotment of 39 grams of chocolate - increased from 75 grams last year. But once those lights get turned off, the leaf blower is put to rest till spring.

We were given one as a gift and kept it alive for years, and eventually I couldn't stop thinking "watering it from below doesn't make any sense, and I can't really believe this thing was designed that way" so I started just dumping water on like I do our pothos (which is apparently some sort of immortal being and nothing can hurt it), and sure enough the african violet did fine.

Now I'm not saying to water yours from the top, just that it didn't hurt ours and I'm still watering it normally. I sort of think that must've been something dreamed up to make the pretty little plant more exotic than it really is.

Same here. I gave up on potted decorative and flowering plants for my patio two years ago. Now I have only a variety of potted cactii. I have killed only a few of those over the past 5 years. So I'm now saving a ton of money not buying a bunch of new plants every spring! And saving time because I don't have to re-pot the poor, soon-to-die plants when I get them home.

We believe the Christmas tree thing, for the first few years of cat squatting. People talk about suspending the tree from the ceiling, all kinds of weird solutions.

One year we put up a tree. The cats took a swat at low hanging shiny ornaments, but that was it. Solution: Don't hang low, shiny ornaments.

Last year I didn't put up a tree because F it. Had nothing to do with the cats.

We visited my MiL yesterday for celebrating her daughter's birthday (i.e., missus K). While there, MiL passed on to me another collection of metallic odds and ends for me to leave for our metal recycler.

She has a new batch for me every time I visit her. My first thought -- unexpressed, of course -- is "Where do you keep finding this stuff?"

Our Maine Coons over the past 50 years were only interested for a short time when they were kittens. After that, they would just lay under the tree and sleep. Our present Maine Coon female is the same. "Hey, look, a tree! I can sleep under it. Until that idiot human starts running the train around it!"

205 When Harbor Fright puts those 4 wheel dolly's on sale, they are cheaper than you can build them. A little piece of wood or something in the open space and moving pot plants from one place to the other is no problem. I have several & rearrange the plants as desired.

Can't answer ease of removal, but a hot glue gun, used in conjunction with a hot iron (soldering gun works), can be used to securely weld the polyethylene plastic, which accepts no glue well. Melt along crack with hot iron, flow glue from glue gun into hot puddle.

Paid to have a new motor installed and about 3 months later it stuck, up, luckily. When that way for a year. Took the truck in for some minor thing and the guy slammed, slammed the door, & from that day on the window goes up and down. Ass hoe slammed the door.

This is a thing to take note of. When you don't use a power window for a long time, sometimes a small amount of corrosion will form on the motor brushes and it won't work. If you slam the door while holding the switch down it jars the motor enough that it changes the contact point enough that it starts running and the motor running cleans the contacts. Always worth trying as it takes no cash or tools and virtually no time.
