I was given a tiny cactus with a single flower on it one time, gently planted in a bed of soil in a flat round ceramic pot, and my attitude toward it was much like yours, and I plucked it out of the soil and turned it upside down and planted it top-first. And grew to like it when it thrived like that!

My FWP: I'm about 2 weeks away from closing the sale of my house. For the first time in a LONG time, I will be homeless. But that's another story for another time.
No, my FWP is dealing with the various people who must come and go in the process, people who perform one task or another. This morning I was contacted by the guy who will blow out my sprinklers for the season. How to pay him? Well, I discovered today my banks have stopped doing the direct transfer of money, except to send an electronic check, like one would with a utility. No more Venmo, no more Pop Money. So this guy asks if I do Cash App. No, I don't. Because my phone is a phone, it's not to be used for that shite. I don't do Apple Pay, or any other thing that wants me to give over access to my bank accounts. Except my banks. This guy tells me he doesn't have a bank account, so he can't even do a paper check. WTF? Dude, how do you live? I realize there are people who are doing this life, very differently than us 29 year olds. For various reasons. What a world. My FWP, last night at 11 pm: I was settling down, enjoying the ONT, getting ready for bed gradually, and suddenly found myself needing to call 911 and engage with the local constabulary! Was not on my bingo card last night, and the reason I rate is as an FWP is that it was part serious, but part darkly comical.
I walked towards the front of my house last night at 11 and was shocked to hear loud yelling through the door - this is a quiet residential neighborhood with very calm neighbors, so I was thinking WTF?" Looked out and saw that this 30 something white couple (who I had never seen before) had stopped their car in front of the neighbors house, piled out and started a knock-down drag-out right in the middle of the street. I would have worried about the woman except the guy, who was doing most of the vulgar shouting, was on his hands and knees most of the time since he was clearly too drunk to even stand up. late night contretemps, part 2: looking at the situation, I decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and that there was no upside for me in going out and engaging personally with a mean, angry drunk in the middle of the night, So I called 911 and asked them to send a car over to check out the pair. They got there, but it took about 15 minutes - the idiots had a chance to get away, they actually got into the car and drove off a bit before the police got there, and I thought that's too bad. And then they stopped, turned around, drove back to the same spot and jumped out fighting again! Real Geniooses there. It was rather amusing to watch the Po-Po have long private conversations with each of them, and I could hear that at the end they let the woman go, but took the guy downtown for Public Intox. last thing I heard him yelling - "AS SOON AS I BAIL OUT YOU COME DOWN TO THAT JAIL AND PICK ME UP YOU HEAR ME???"

AV's are my favorite houseplant/flower and I have had the pleasure of growing some spectacular specimens. Decades ago in another state I had the best filtered light in my living room which is what AV's like. Water from the bottom, putting h20 on a saucer but don't oversoak, and don't get h2o on the leaves. I put a squirt of AV food in the water maybe once every two months. I had singles, doubles, and double ruffles. The flower crown was 7-8 inches. They were beautiful. You can have a beautiful AV as well. Don't fuss over them.

I believe they are trolling because Israel did supply some missiles to Ukraine. Wasn’t as much support as Ukraine wanted but that doesn’t matter to Putin.
Posted by: Drive by at October 29, 2023 03:32 PM (MNhXM) Honestly, I don't think they care all that much, what Israel contributed to the Ukraine war, or what's going on now in Gaza. They're at war with the U.S. of A. And taking advantage of the opportunity to lay at the feet of this country, every accusation that's been leveled at them. Whether those accusations contain any truth or not. Which again, is the point. Posted by: BurtTC at October 29, 2023 03:34 PM (QBaJw) 172

Posted by: javems at October 29, 2023 02:52 PM (8I4hW) Same here. I gave up on potted decorative and flowering plants for my patio two years ago. Now I have only a variety of potted cactii. I have killed only a few of those over the past 5 years. So I'm now saving a ton of money not buying a bunch of new plants every spring! And saving time because I don't have to re-pot the poor, soon-to-die plants when I get them home. Posted by: Gref at October 29, 2023 03:37 PM (5fDan) 175

People talk about suspending the tree from the ceiling, all kinds of weird solutions. One year we put up a tree. The cats took a swat at low hanging shiny ornaments, but that was it. Solution: Don't hang low, shiny ornaments. Last year I didn't put up a tree because F it. Had nothing to do with the cats. Posted by: BurtTC at October 29, 2023 03:48 PM (QBaJw) 189

Is the plastic reservoir easy to remove?
Posted by: Ciampino - about that leak at October 29, 2023 02:13 PM (qfLjt) Can't answer ease of removal, but a hot glue gun, used in conjunction with a hot iron (soldering gun works), can be used to securely weld the polyethylene plastic, which accepts no glue well. Melt along crack with hot iron, flow glue from glue gun into hot puddle. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at October 29, 2023 04:10 PM (zAH+r) 207

Set it at a window with bright indirect sun, and set the pot up with a wick and a reservoir (google it). Add african violet food to the reservoir according to the instructions. It'll be fine.

Paid to have a new motor installed and about 3 months later it stuck, up, luckily. When that way for a year. Took the truck in for some minor thing and the guy slammed, slammed the door, & from that day on the window goes up and down. Ass hoe slammed the door. This is a thing to take note of. When you don't use a power window for a long time, sometimes a small amount of corrosion will form on the motor brushes and it won't work. If you slam the door while holding the switch down it jars the motor enough that it changes the contact point enough that it starts running and the motor running cleans the contacts. Always worth trying as it takes no cash or tools and virtually no time. Posted by: Azjaeger at October 29, 2023 06:59 PM (3/XaG) 215
