This morning I voted for Rep Donalds for Speaker. Followed by Rep Johnson. Rep Emmer does not have votes to be speaker and I will be unable to support him on the floor. So, I'm going to ask Rep. Mark Green to throw his hat in the ring. We need to get a speaker!

He voted for every Ukraine aid package, wants to get rid of the Electoral College, defended Ilhan Omar, and hates MAGA.
He was one of the few Republicans in the House who voted to certify Biden in 2020.

Trump says that Emmer "never respected the power of a Trump endorsement," so there you go.

There's Trump, as usual, speaking about the issues that mean the most to the average voter. That's really the Issue of Our Time -- whether or not someone has ever "respected the power of a Trump endorsement."

People love politicians who care only for themselves and have given up even pretending to be acting on behalf of the people.

That's almost as good as when Trump decided to let out presumably-classified information about Israel and Netanyahu in the middle of a war, telling his crowd that he was "let down" by Netanyahu because he refused to actually take part in the Suleimani airstrike. Why this was necessary in an operation we had all the capabilities of executing, we don't know.

Why it's necessary to scheme for Netanyahu's impeachment in the midst of a hot war with Hama, who can say.

You might say "Ah that's Rolling Stone, we don't believe them." Okay, fine, but we know Trump attacked Netanyahu at that rally for "letting me down." So clearly he is attempting to make trouble for Netanyahu.

Again, in the middle of a war.

But Trump thought it was important to attack Netanyahu at the same time Hamas was, because Trump is still childishly peeved that the PM of a foreign government didn't back Trump's "Stop the Steal" bullshit-- He's angry at a world leader for calling to congratulate Biden, after it appeared, to all the world except Trump, that Biden won the election (or, at least, would be taking over the presidency).

But you know, it's All About Trump. It's all about "loyalty" to Trump.

But, I mean, what do we expect by this point? Like Biden, he's losing his executive function and control over himself. Everything now is angry rage and narcissistic boasts. Just like Biden.

And he's encouraged in this, because many of his supporters agree with Trump: It really is All About Trump, and literally nothing matters except Trump.

There are no political questions except "Does this validate and affirm Trump or not?"

So when your loudest supporters tell you your megalomania is a feature not a bug, why not indulge it to the absolute limit?

And when people tell you they find this very off-putting and unserious and even a little insane and worrisome, make sure you just dismiss their concerns completely. Just call them a cuck.

Whatever you do, you want to keep your vote level at a nice, even 39-41% of the country.

What would any reasonable person take Trump to be talking about? Was the Congresscritter engaged in mortal combat with Trump? Was he talking about real estate deals?

I Love CODA and if Dune couldn't get it I was happy that it did as it is just expertly crafted and tells a great story with strong and effective performances. Licorice Pizza is PTA so of course its strong but just doesnt old up to his top work and as "coming of age" type story I preferred CODA. There are some good films in that decade, but they're just...not Best Picture as the Academy had been rewarding for decades. Not that everything was great (Tom Jones is...curious but entertaining), but there was a consistency to the quality that they were rewarding.

I think the secret is that the voting body of actors started working in unison to change the Best Picture winner to something more like a Best Ensemble Cast award mixed with rewarding actors who made the transition to director (Redford and Costner [from 1990, admittedly] are two key points there, though Beatty's movies like Reds losing is a counter argument).

There probably is. However, after seeing a lifetime of Republicans with the exception of RWR give us lip service and deliver nothing - a lifetime! - I'm not going to throw Trump to the side. He was a once-in-a-generation politician, who had no financial reason to run, and derived no net financial benefit from running. He's in the fight for his political - and perhaps literal - life for nothing more than trying to do the right thing. He said he'd gladly go to jail if that will make America wake up to what's happening to us.

If that makes me a Trump cultist, so be it. When other professional politicians pay close to the price that Trump is paying, then I'll start considering them for POTUS.

Since the wresting of power from the existing centers at the top of the GOP pile are never going to be easy requests happily acceded to, there's going to be a fight or else you just retain current power centers.

This is going to naturally weaken the GOP as a cohesive GOP body, leading to potential losses. However, the hope is that the change will be necessary and worth the short term losses in the long run.

Besides, can we really measure the strength of political parties regarding their appeal to the electorate anymore?

I lived through NYC in the 80s. Die-hard Democrat NY voters didn't think to vote for a Republican until the streets were almost literally burning, and they had no choice. They held their noses and voted for Giuliani...and then things turned around.

This needs to happen on a national level before things change. The 40% of diehard Biden supporters need to have their noses rubbed in the rubbish he's causing before they change. And not before.

He is about neck and neck with Nikki in national polls. Like Pence, Iowa is a do or die caucus for him to win and a lot of that goes on under the surface due to the importance of specific activists that can drive people to the polls. Right now, D is hurting in NH and SC and only a good performance in Iowa (or mercurial PDT exiting the race for legal/health or worse) can revive D's campaign.

As someone who will likely vote RDS in the primary and DJT in the general, let me just point out that Trump's schtick has always been that of the anti-hero. He's like the political version of Tony Soprano. He says out loud what all the other politicians only say to each other. It limits his appeal, but it also forms a rock solid base, because there's nothing an opponent can say that will be worse than what people already know about him. It is quite the conundrum. Regardless of how it turns out this cycle, I will always be grateful that he showed us how deep the rot truly is. And it is shocking. Doesn't mean he's the best guy to do anything about it. I wish he would go Godzilla on the Tokyo that is DC, but I don't think that's possible anymore.

Since the wresting of power from the existing centers at the top of the GOP pile are never going to be easy requests happily acceded to, there's going to be a fight or else you just retain current power centers.

This is going to naturally weaken the GOP as a cohesive GOP body, leading to potential losses. However, the hope is that the change will be necessary and worth the short term losses in the long run.

They did. They challenged the GOP to actually follow its promises. The exposure of most of the GOP caucus as frauds is not their fault and McCarthy's reliance on Nanzi's promise is typical of the GOPe in Congress.

Since 2016, GOP in Congress has had chance after chance to actually govern conservatively. They always chose the least conservative path.
Heck, even the Boehner Congress got the sequester which was ended when it started to pinch GOP grift from the defense industries.

Now they are revealed as sad clowns crying and marring their mascara that their voters hate them but marching down the aisle to vote for a Speaker that will make their voters hate them more. Tells you who they believe their bread is buttered by.

It ain't the voters--it is the GOP, in the House, in the Senate, and in the national party organizations itself.
