The short-term stuff that I buy to yield a bit better than a savings account (bills, six months or less) have been yielding over 5% for some time now. My blended yield has shot up from 5.08% in June to 5.3% this week.

I don't understand how's there still a market for CDs and timed deposits. There are some convenience and compounding benefits to a CD, but the yields just aren't there.

Right, which is why I don't see a point. I am nearly there on my short-term Treasuries, on shorter term. The Treasuries aren't "guaranteed" like CDs are, but that's irrelevant because banking products are guaranteed by the US Government, which is also on the hook for the Treasuries. If they default on the government debt, it's not like the FDIC is going to a thing, either. The effective risk is the same.

TreasuryDirect is *awful* and is probably a tremendous barrier in the real world. As to the rate term, I don't see it. Matched term, Treasuries are usually a better rate than CDs. But CDs are much easier and make compounding easier and you don't have to slog through TreasuryDirect. Boy, that site *sucks.*

Arranging anything 300 times in 365 days is annoying and tiring without a fixed rotating schedule and reliable partners.

TreasuryDirect is *awful* and is probably a tremendous barrier in the real world. As to the rate term, I don't see it. Matched term, Treasuries are usually a better rate than CDs. But CDs are much easier and make compounding easier and you don't have to slog through TreasuryDirect. Boy, that site *sucks.*
