Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.
Prayer Requests:
8/26 – Dash my Lace Wings asked for continued prayers. Her husband is still sober but needs to develop some interests to keep his mind and body busy – something that will give him joy and purpose in life.
9/23 – Thanks are sent to all for the prayers. They are doing well.
8/30 – Debby Doberman Schultz asked for prayers. Her husband passed away on 8/30, with her sitting beside him, holding his hand. The kids had been in and out, but the end it was like the beginning - just the two of them. As painful as it was, she wouldn’t have it any other way. She is so gratified that he is relieved of his suffering.
9/30 Update – Debby sends thanks to all for their prayers. They were appreciated more than anyone can know.
9/8 – Inogame requested prayers for his wife and their next daughter, due in March. Please help pray for health. His wife is struggling with morning sickness, but otherwise both are healthy. He also sends thanks for the Horde’s prayers of support, both now and when they had miscarriages in the past.
9/9 – Jewells asked for prayers for her brother-in-law and his wife. The brother-in-law has been diagnosed with dementia. He is diabetic and cannot give himself his injections, and he refuses to let his wife help him. He also refuses to stay home, even getting into the car with strangers to get away. Please pray for strength and wisdom for her, and for him to accept the changes that have to happen.
9/23 Update – The situation is getting worse. Her brother-in-law just wanders off when he knows his wife is not looking. He also has a “friend” who helped him withdraw all the money from the couple’s joint account, and put it into an account in just the BIL’s name. Now the wife cannot pay the bills or the mortgage. The BIL fell again, and his wife is at her wits end.
9/9 – NaughtyPine asked for prayers for one of her brothers. He’d been in the hospital for a week after a breakdown. This is the strong brother, the one who takes care of everyone else and never asks for anything.
9/30 Update – Her brother was cleared to return to work. She also says thanks for the prayers, and thanks for the advice, to ask him if he needs or wants anything every time they talk, so he doesn’t have to ask.
9/9 – San Franpsycho sent some updates: Paul, who we have been praying for as he deals with cancer, was admitted to the hospital last week for an ulcer. The NG tube was removed, and he will be able to eat soon. The other update is that Mrs. F. is feeling better in the ER, after 2 fluid IVs.
9/23 Update – There is no good news on Paul to report. Mrs. F is back to 100%.
9/9 – RedMindBlueState requested prayers. His brother-in-law’s mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and is not doing well. Prayers also for the family at this difficult time.
9/14 – creeper asked for prayers for a man who has destroyed his back after years of hard physical labor. He can’t have any more back surgery, so he is having an electronic nerve stimulator put in. Prayers that it would work would be appreciated.
9/23 Update – creeper says thank you for your prayers. They took the temporary nerve stimulator out of his back, and it’s up to him if he wants a permanent one. But it was the first noticeable pain relief in three years. It may have been medical science helping, but creeper thinks it was the Horde’s prayers.
9/14 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for Jessie, their church organist. She hasn’t been able to play at church for a while, but she is back in the hospital. Prayers are appreciated!
9/30 Update – Please continue to pray for Jessie. She went to rehab for her arm, but got Covid, so it’s been difficult. Fenelon was able to visit her. She was mentally sharp but very tired, and able to laugh.
9/15 - Jewells45 could use prayers. Her last rounds of chemo have been tough on her.
9/16 – Rhennigantx asked for prayers as he experiences Afib. He is now facing drugs or maybe the ablation treatment.
9/16 – LMD asked for prayers for a sister who is in the final throes of hospice. Please pray that she will pass on so that her suffering will stop. Prayers are much appreciated.
9/22 – DaveT sent an update. He is a retired gentleman, and we had prayed for him in May, as he was going through some legal battles to save his home, for himself and his cats. The legal (and home repair) battles continue, and additional contributions would be very much appreciated. 9/23 – Jim (in kalifornia) provided an update on his relatives. His father-in-law is better after having a vascular catheter put in and emergency dialysis. His wife suffered through helping him, and also ended up with a new tumor. She also missed about 5 treatments, so all her other tumor markers are way up.
9/30 Update – Jim and his family could still use some prayers. His wife hasn’t been doing her cancer treatments. She has a new tumor in a new organ, a lung. His younger son is being a stupid teenager. They found drugs (weed, mushrooms) in his room and he didn’t see anything wrong with that (despite my house, my rules, zero drug policy). His father-in-law is finally out of the hospital. All this meant Jim hasn’t been working, so with big bills coming up (home insurance, car insurance), it will be fun figuring out which bills not to pay.
9/23 – Polliwog the Ette requested prayers for her mother-in-law, Peggy, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It seems to be contained, but fast-growing, and hopefully a lumpectomy will be sufficient. She is understandably nervous about the whole thing and would appreciate prayers.
9/24 – Eromero was having dinner with a 95 year-old buddy at the senior living facility, and had to bring his friend to the ER with pneumonia symptoms.
9/30 – Duke Lowell posted that his mother-in-law, who lived with them for ten years, had passed away on Wednesday. He asked that God would welcome her into his kingdom and the He comfort Duke’s wife and her brother.
10/1 Coelacanth asked for continued prayers for Cam. In addition to the other medical (and other) issues that Cam and his family are experiencing, Cam just found out he has testicular cancer, at age 26. Surgery is anticipated for later in October. Prayers are gratefully appreciated.
10/1 - Morgan, long-time lurker, gives praise for the exercise of God’s providence. He had a job offer in Sarasota that was withdrawn this morning. Very disappointed, but God has other plans for me which he has not yet revealed. Praise be to God.
10/2 – SMH asked for prayers for his ex-ex;s dad, which has stage IV laryngeal cancer. He had a trach put in last week, and it will be permanent. The cancer is very aggressive, and it’s only got 50-50 odds if he agrees to the treatment plan (total laryngectomy and lymph node removal, plus radiation).
10/3 – Hadrian asked for prayers for his brother and sister-in-law, who are on sabbatical in Spain. They’ve both come down with Covid and are confined to a small, temporary apartment. Prayers appreciated for 1) their quick recovery and 2) they survive the time cooped up with each other.

Understanding the Hamas attack on Israel:

Iran is aiming for a confrontation with Israel and the US. The success of Russia in Ukraine is encouraging Iran to undo decades of hostile US foreign policy in the Middle East. A bankrupt US Govt has just been invited to another war.

The timing is opportunistic. The US Govt is forced to print trillions of USD as it struggles to raise new debt. Another war would lead to a significant increase in inflation and an accelerated economic decline of the US.

If Iran mines the Strait of Hormuz the global energy crisis would become critical. The Biden administration has used the majority of US oil reserves to stabilize domestic oil prices. Iran can increase the pain for the US Govt significantly.

Ukraine is turning into a major defeat for the US and NATO. A new front in the Middle East would accelerate the US decline. The US Govt and its western partners simply cannot afford it. Russia and China would benefit most. Iran understands this and is playing into the hands of its partners.

23 Re: the war thread below. The missiles launched by Hamas today were all paid for by Biden's cash handouts to Iran. As if anyone didn't know, Hamas is Iran's proxy army. Thus attack was all at Iran's direction, which is also why they don't care that Hamas will be slaughtered in the end. They were built up by Iran just to kill as many Israelis as possible, and then be discarded.

I have a one time request.
Prayer for my friend and coworkers father. 92 and curled up into a ball on Hospice. Only allowable drugs are Morphine.
I pray he passed peacefully in his sleep last night.
It's horrible to see someone in so much pain that Morphine won't hardly even touch it. Barely able to breath.

56 Morning, all! Not a great morning in many ways, but it has a few things to recommend it locally. Da Swamp's temps have sagged a little from yesterday's 78 at dawn to about 70; temps are supposed to stay under 80 today, and dip into the low 60s (!) tonight.

The Kittenish Thugs are romping and play-fighting. Maybe they feel the lower humidity too (though my A/C is still running, as it has to, and the humidity is low in here).

An uptown district is holding its annual Art Gallery night, where most of the businesses for a mile or so along the main avenue stay open late, and many offer free wine and cheese or other snacks. Since the weather is actually fairly pleasant for once (though it won't last), we plan to go.

It's a good guess; Hezbollah is another proxy army of Iran's. BUT they've had free reign in Lebanon for years now, and they're starting to get fat and lazy and realizing that living off the fat of the land is a lot better than dying uselessly for Iran. So I expect them to watch this attack closely, and if Israel gets the upper hand quickly (they will), Hezbollah might shoot off a few missiles to convince their Iranian paymasters they're still in it with them, but other than that do nothing.

Last night I went down to the first Friday art show on the plaza and it was the first time since spring that I felt a sweater would have been helpful. And since Hamas is broke, it's obvious that the money that paid for them was the cash that Biden has been shipping to Iran. See how the circle works?
1) US Govm't pays defense contractors big money to build weapons.
2) weapons are shipped off for "free" out of some excuse to "save democracy".
3) weapons are never sent to where they're supposed to go; they're stolen right at the start by the people who are supposed to be shipping them.
4) weapons are bought by cash that the US Govm't has handed out to other countries, notably Iran.
5) most of the cash ends up in the bank accounts of the people in the US Congress, State Dep't, and Defense Contractors who enabled this whole cycle of war.. And it goes on, and on, and on.

I don't absolve anyone in the Uke govm't - but they are very low level partners in this criminal syndicate. The Biggest Players are right here at home - just look at who keeps voting in favor of endless cash for Ukraine.

I agree - I think that was the plan. But it's possible that Hamas leadership, for internal reasons, was stupid and launched their part of the attack before any of their partners was ready to go. This happens in war a lot, and when it does the one that jumps too early gets slaughtered and taken out of the game for good.

130 France 24 had an Israeli army spokesman on for a few minutes. My understanding from what I heard is this is not going to be a tit for tat retaliation and then containment in Gaza. The language used by the Israeli spokesman implied they're going into Gaza and they're going to level the place.

This is an Iranian war on Israel executed through Hamas, which I view is coming attractions if the Iranians complete building nuclear weapons. It would be a staggering escalation to go after the Iranian nuclear weapon sites but it appears that this is a case where we do it now or we do it later. Meanwhile, The Biden administration funds the Iranians and depletes our ability to respond in its proxy war with Russia in Ukraine. It will be interesting to see how the Biden administration frames the US position here.

I doubt they are freaking out - everyone in the middle east knew that it was coming, it was only a question of when, and they have been scrambling to prepare for years. The only thing that surprises me is how many people here at home seem to be surprised at this - it's one of those events that was guaranteed to happen, sooner or later, and now it's sooner. But I still think Hamas jumped the gun, although that'll take a few days to be sure. It's possible that Iran decided to sacrifice Hamas in order to justify a massive counterattack against Gaza, which they will use to justify their own attacks.

180 Creeper, my daughter had the nerve stimulator implant put in earlier this year. She had broken her ankle and it caused nerve damage that caused constant, severe pain. It has worked wonders for her and has allowed her to get back to being pretty normal. Good luck and we'll keep praying.

Also, I could use prayers for a possible job change that terrifies me. It could be absolutely fantastic for me personally and professionally. I pray for God's will and not mine, though. He leads my paths.

There is a (pretty much suppressed) study compiled by a then active duty USMC COL arguing the same. In his case it was regarding the Gulf War II iirc but the conclusions are evergreen. Namely, it is a huge resource sink to hold hostages. If the good guys' actions are not influenced by you holding hostages, it is a net negative.

btw, the good COL's points included attacking through hostages placed in front of the enemy as a shield. The bad guys will give up the tactic after the third incidence of us not giving a shit.

I disagree - the reason Laurence Tribe and people like him are already so upset is that they realize this is the greatest poltical gift to Bibi that he's ever recieved in his lifetime, and his enemies handed it to him freely. He's just won every internal conflict in Israel, the ones he's been fighting for years. That is of course presupposing that Hamas gets slapped down quickly, and hard. But the IDF has known something like this was coming for years, and has been planning for it. The only question was the timing, and that was up to the enemy.

The history of Thermos, the trademark, is unusual because the original owner deliberately allowed it to become genericized, thinking it was free advertising, then tried to reclaim the trademark! Original trademark ('T') was German, 1904 (Wikipedia), then it got complicated and ultimately the courts 'split' the trademark into 'Thermos' (branded vacuum flask) and 'thermos' (non-branded vacuum flask).

362 Trademarks and genericization fascinate me. It's amazing how many terms start as some specific name dreamed up by someone, then become common and nobody even knows where the term came from originally.

In E. Europe (not noted for copyright/trademark enforcement!) there are lots of storefront copy/print shops because people can't afford to buy printers or the cartridges for them, and a lot of them will flat-out advertise 'xeroxes' right on their public signs. And almost every day-care center or anyplace for kids has huge hand-painted signs with trademarked cartoon characters.

Pretty much what we called it here. Grooming, Grindr "date", or drug deal gone bad. But it was personal, and caused by Kruger's perversions.

I want those guys back. What happened in the interim? The same thing that happened to the UK that ruled the globe until WW2 where after that UK went on a suicide mission?
