First World Problems: I Saw The Light

1stworld.jpg

***

Ahhh. The good old porcelain light socket. It's been around a while.

These fixtures are also called “keyless lamp holders” and the design was developed by Russian immigrant Isidor Leviton in 1910. The socket is in the shape of a candleholder and it was specifically designed to hold the exciting and new Edison light bulb

The Fabulous Mrs. Mis. Hum and I are blessed to own an off grid cabin in the northern forests of Wisconsin. Porcelain lights, vacation property, these don's sound like First World Problems, do they?

Our cabin has two sources of lighting. We have LP Gas lights. The other source is 12 volt lighting. The 12 volt runs throughout the cabin. Our one and only walk-in closet has the wonderful porcelain light socket with the good old fashioned pull chain/string. Until it didn't.

IMG_6348(1).jpg

You are looking at the porcelain light socket pull chain which decided to break Saturday morning. Until it is replaced, we will have to get by with a flashlight.

There needs to be a trip to the hardware store. (Carbon footprint, what carbon footprint?) Or do I place an order from Amazon? (The UPS driver has to drive by my house daily. He's already carboning anyway.) Once I obtain that socket. I have to get the step-ladder out. I will need a Phillips screwdriver and a flashlight to see what the hell I am doing.

Word has it that CBD will be back next Sunday. If not I'll be back to commiserate with you.

8 Unless the chain broken inside the fixture, all you need the little doohicky that connects the chain together. It is similar to the thing that is connecting the string to the chain.

I had a ceiling fan switch fail. It was the switch/pull chain for the lights. Replacing the switch was fairly straight forward and the chain was already installed in it. (I don't know if you can replace only the chain.) Had to revisit the original packaging online to get the wiring correct. (3 wires, not labeled)

30 As for how to deal with the Arabs in Israel: I've been saying the same thing for years... put them on notice. Time to leave forever. You have two weeks to put your affairs in order, and then you have to GTFO.

Put Egypt and Jordan on notice too. Two weeks. You have two weeks to get your shit together and make good on seventy-five years of cunty fucking whining about your Arab brothers and sisters. Now you have to take them. Or not.

Because they don't have to go home, but they can't stay here. In three weeks, we will proceed to shatter every structure in Gaza and West Bank, without regard to who is or isn't inside.

This is over now. Save them or let them die.

57 I think I have determined that my defrost timer on my Kenmore refrigerator is bad. Removing everything and letting it melt seems to have fixed the no cooling in the refrigerator part.

On thing that I have learned is that you can manually start the defrost cycle by pushing the door light switch rapidly five times. (thank you YouTube). Until I can replace the timer, I am just going to hit the defrost every morning.

As an aside, I wish I had known this before since I replaced my old frig with this one precisely because of frosting up problems.

This is realtalk. Buns don't get made like they used to. Everything is still attached to everything else, and getting them to open is always a test of one's patience, dexterity, and frankly, eyesight.

You can't just take a bun out of a package now either. No, half the NEXT bun will come out with it, or the whole damn pack is glued to the plastic packaging.

I'm considering going to lettuce as a bun, which, giving up on buns is almost equivalent to turning in one of one's balls.

74 There is no defrost "timer" on newer refrigerators. To meet the new energy compliance certifications, refrigerators now employ an on demand control. That control is usually in a box near the top of your refrigeration compartment where it monitors the temperature of the air moving from the freezer where the coils are located.

This device is a circuit board that has a small microprocessor on it that is powered by standard household voltage. There is a limited lifetime of the voltage controller when subjected to voltage spikes on the household circuits.

Many folks would be surprised by the frequency and magnitude of these spikes.

109 Have 4 of those sockets in the RV garage. They had puny little incandescence bulbs. Costco had a sale on 3 panel movable led lights which screw right into the Leviton fixtures.
I now have amazing light in that side of the RV garage.
FWP: the other side had 5 8ft fluorescent fixtures plugged into outlets (1/2 of each outlet wired to switch).
The light was so good on the new led side I had to go by more of the led lights; but, these didn't have sockets. I had to buy ceramic sockets with 110v prongs, and the outlets are about 16ft off the ground. I figured out after changing one, precariously stretched above my 12ft ladder, I could use the bulb changer fully extended to plug both the led and socket into the outlet.
I only put one of them into the wrong side too!

And if it broken inside, remove lampholder, bypass pull switch, reconnect. It will be in the always on position, but you reach up and twist the bulb to turn it on/off.

Or just use a wooden torch.

I would have called an electrician and limped along, thinking a breaker had failed, but after texting my neighbor to see if he had a # for one he recommended he texted me back that I should call the utility based on multiple 220 outlets that would have their own breakers being down. I think... and bear in mind that I only saw a headline about this and someone in the comments added a bit more info... that Russia has had dealings with Hamas. Hamas is a catspaw for Iran and Russia is close to Iran. So...

The whole thing sounded very speculative to me and it was coming from the former commander of British forces in Afghanistan. I don't know how globalist he is.

I can see reasons why it might be advantageous for Russia to have the US pay attention to something other than Ukraine. On the other hand, "Russia, Russia, Russia" makes it hard to accept anything TPTB say on the matter.

Most catsup/ketchup is sugar of various kinds with tomato something to prevent it from clumping.

I had a beef hotlink last night. It was pretty good. I put some salsa on it. The other options were sugar-tomato sauce, mayo whose first ingredient was soybean oil, and something chipotle, probably also larded with sugar and soybean oil.

I need to replace a porch light but the bulb is stuck tight, been in there for many years. Plus, bulb is screwed into a plastic 'cheater' that has outlets on either side...which, in turn, is stuck into the light fixture itself.

247 Mayo needs a neutral tasting oil. Most brands switched to soybean, so it's better to make your own using whatever you like - olive, avocado, canola. Just don't use "vegetable" oil, because it's most likely soybean oil in disguise.

Hotdogs are, imho, best with ketchup (low sodium, no added sugar), relish (dill or sweet), and kimchi. Or made in a pot of beans.

Top split brioche buns are usually the only way to get soy-free buns around here.

Since she appeals to the tabletop roleplay and gaming world, she has gotten to take advantage of folks wanting new art every time they want a new player character.

But it's pretty slow outside of summer and holiday seasons...

Turns out it's a common issue. The wires that run up and down the blanket that heat up can break if the blanket is subjected to repeated washing/drying as they'll bend, then crack, then break and potentially cause shock or fire next time the blanket's turned on if the controller is borked.

317 And if it broken inside, remove lampholder, bypass pull switch, reconnect. It will be in the always on position, but you reach up and twist the bulb to turn it on/off.

Or just use a wooden torch.

They used to sell "socket taps" made of Bakelite, that would screw into your keyless lampholder, and which had a socket for a lamp bulb (available with or without a pull-chain switch) plus a pair of outlets to plug appliances into. Used to be very commonplace before homes were standard-wired with baseboard outlets.

335 President Biden
@POTUS

I’m a capitalist. If you can make a billion dollars, go get it.
Just pay a little more in taxes.
It’s time billionaires pay a 25% minimum tax.

“But no billionaire should be paying a lower tax rate than a schoolteacher or a firefighter,” Biden said in his Feb. 7 State of the Union address, calling on Congress to “pass my proposal for the billionaire minimum tax.”

So there are 400 Billionaires. Just name and tax them.

“The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”

I disagree, there should be no Gaza. All residents will migrate to Egypt where the so called Palestinians may be taken care of or disbursed by the al-Sisi government.
The area now known as Gaza shall become part of Israel as it should be.

There are several different narratives going around, and can pick any depending on your inclinations.
1) the internal political unrest ever since the last election has completely disrupted all Israeli govm't operations, and they just weren't paying attention.
2) Mossad *did* know, but chose to hide what they knew to hurt Netanyahu''s Govm't.
3) Netanyahu's govm't knew, but chose to hide what they knew because they felt this would be to their advantage.

Yes, #'s 2 and 3 are diametrically opposed to each other.
