The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) is a series of conferences designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront.
It's a fairly offensive name, actually. Grace Hopper was not some affirmative action hire. Grace Hopper was a real person, and an important one. She tried out for the Navy and failed (too skinny), but entered the WAVES during the War and became an eminent computer scientist working on the Mark I computer project at Harvard as a Lieutenant. She went on to work on UNIVAC, conceptualized modern programming languages, added to the lexicon - "computer bug" - did tremendous theoretical work on compilers, helped developed COBOL and retired from the Navy in the 60s before moving fully to private industry. She was also reputed to be an engaging and accessible speaker on the subject of computers and software.
And she did it when it really was a boy's club more or less by default. Grace Hopper was a genuine powerhouse, not some damned "diversity" hire agitating for degradation.

Yup, she came up with that. And it seems a bit silly at first - a physical representation of a millisecond or a picosecond or whatnot (it depended on the topic) - but it really does help contextualize time scales that small. I was never at a conference with Hopper - I was a small child when she died - but I have been at conferences that use the same idea (usually with attribution).

I consulted at a place that was all in on 'code review' in their new project. A few hours to look up the feature and figure out a solution, a day or so to write up the design doc which could not include any description of how the feature would be implemented, 2 days to wait for the review meeting, a day to have the meeting and write down the responses, another day to write down the solution document which could not contain any code, then a few hours to do the change.

Apparently the league was well aware the claims were baseless, and he was "eligible" to be reinstated for the '23 season, but no teams would take a chance on him.
So he played in Japan. I don't know how hard it would be for him to be picked up by a team now, or how hard it would be for him to sue the league.
I just know if you are a team, like say, the St. Louis Cardinals, and your pitching staff stunk it up about as bad as is possible, you'd be better off putting Bauer on the mound than trying to keep 42 year olds on the roster, and sending them out there every fifth day.

That was how it was done at the 'old system' maintenance division I was in earlier - you had to fit bits of code and data in memory and you showed details.
in the NEW replacement system they used advanced techniques that were years behind schedule and they were hiring consultants at double price to 'catch up'. I think that place went under soon afterwards
