Democrat Congressman Carjacked in DC

A Democratic congressman was carjacked Monday night in Washington's Navy Yard neighborhood, the latest high profile crime to raise alarm in the nation's capital.
A congressional source with direct knowledge of the incident said that Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, was carjacked at gunpoint, but that he was believed to be unharmed.

Law and order has deteriorated such that lawmakers in September, held a safety meeting to discuss tips for staffers to minimize the risk of becoming the victim of a violent crime.

Gee, if there was only something lawmakers could do to reduce crime.

I've been a lot - and on foot with just my kids - you just need to know where and when to be there. Don't arrive earlier than 9am (aka - when folks are out and about), don't leave later than 5pm (same), come by a train (so there are a lot of normal you - VRE is best, since those are VA folks, who still follow laws b/c laws are enforced here), and enjoy the Mall and the free sites - and bring your own food/drink so you don't need to go away from those sites or plan on overpriced food truck and/or museum cafe buys.

Democrats "de-carceration" initiatives are the big change since then. They essentially made lower level crimes legal. They reduced the number of cops. They made the environment cops work in so toxic and pro criminal that most cops are doing the bare minimum, no proactive policing. They basically made the rules so that if a criminal flees, the cops can't do anything.

Also, the criminals doing most of the non-violent petty crimes are in and out of the system in hours, not days now. It used to be they'd spend a couple of days in lockup. Now they're out faster than cops can finish the paperwork. These repeat offenders are now in public much more and are driving the non violent crime stats through the roof.

When you grow up in Camden County (yes, the county that has THAT city as a part of it) and Philly was your true home city...you learn how to handle cities safely b/c unfortunately, they do have some historical sites and treasures that you can only see and experience if you go. There were definite rules about Philly, even around 2000 - never go near Temple, South Philly was okay, etc...so, having rules for safe DC is normal for me.

Funny enough, I saw St Louis when it was one of the safest and cleanest cities in my teens - my parents let me and my sis fly to friends for a visit, b/c St Louis wasn't Camden...although maybe now, it is...

I managed to get a $200 parking ticket because I was 1/4 inch over a line.

My husband said it was BS and we weren't going to pay it.

A month later the police department of the little town we lived in got a letter telling them the fine was now $1000 and directing the police chief to boot our car.

The chief showed it to hubby and said, " They don't have jurisdiction here and besides we don't have a boot.".

I think they hung it up in the police station and threw darts at it for a while.

The extremely sad part is what it has become. I think it started with the BLM riots and J/6 was the end.
