The Morning Report — 9/29/23

kenbuckyou.jpg

Good morning, kids. Representative Ken Buck is an asshole. Check that; Representative Ken Buck is a hemorrhoid on the giant asshole that is the Republican Party. Exhibit 1:

Rep. Buck, who is set to leave Congress, has been a staunch supporter of the same legacy media industry that regularly smears Republicans and Republican voters as bigots, domestic extremists, and conspiracy theorists. Backed by donations from the legacy media’s top lobbyists in DC, Rep. Buck was the lead Republican sponsor of the JCPA in the House of Representatives.

The Congressman, who presented himself to Republican primary voters as a staunch “Tea Party” conservative back in 2010, is now on his way out of Congress, and is reportedly seeking a job at leftist, Republican-hating channel CNN.

In the meantime, he’s still looking to bail out the same media industry he hopes to join, by a last-ditch effort to push the JCPA. Earlier today, the Congressman appeared on a Washington Post podcast with Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), the bill’s lead Senate sponsor, defending his decision to back a piece of corporate welfare for the media industry. . .

. . . One of the first bills introduced by Democrats during their time holding the majority in the House, the JCPA allows some of the nation’s largest legacy media companies to form a legal cartel, immune from antitrust law, to pressure tech companies for special favors.

Now all Ken Buck has to do is become a prime suspect in the death of his intern, marry the ditzy daughter of a Foggy Bottom bottom dwelling Johns Hopkins School of International Relations egghead and CNN can totally pants MSLSD in the ratings! But wait there's more!

Nearly 20 House Republicans joined their Democrat colleagues on Wednesday in killing a bill amendment that sought to prevent U.S. taxpayer dollars from funding Pentagon-sponsored “pride month” events.

Introduced by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, the measure aimed to “prohibit funds appropriated” by the House’s defense bill for fiscal year 2024 “from being used to carry out the observance of Pride Month authorized by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness for the Cultural Observances and Awareness Events List.” Despite the GOP possessing a majority in the lower chamber, 18 Republicans, including House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., sided with Democrats in voting against the amendment (231-202).

Wow! Way to burnish those "severe Tea Party conservative" credentials. And how comforting is it knowing that 17 other stellar public servants stand with you. It is to laugh, hopefully as you avoid simultaneously doing a Jimi Hendrix and aspirating on your own vomit. Anyone want to wager that most if not all of these pieces of shit will vote "No" to impeach Joey Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants? That is if this process, despite the headlines, seriously gets rolling?

The only thing getting rolled these days is We The People. Just to underscore the complete forcible sodomy and knife in the back, there's this little item:

In a letter to Gov. Brian Kemp (R), [GA State Sen. Colton] Moore announced an initiative in August to begin an emergency session to conduct a thorough investigation into the actions undertaken by Willis. An emergency legislative special session can come about two ways in Georgia: The governor can call an emergency session, or one can be called if 3/5 of both legislative chambers sign a letter demanding it.

Kemp and State Senate Republicans apparently oppose working to investigate, defund, and impeach Willis, and instead ousted Moore. “Today’s removal is a direct result of me calling on my Republican colleagues in the Senate to do their job and sign onto an emergency session to investigate Fani Willis,” Colton said in a statement exclusively obtained by Breitbart News:

The Georgia Constitution clearly outlines the legislature’s power to call an emergency session to investigate a judicial officer. After urging my Republican Senate colleagues to join me — they responded by acting like children and throwing me out of the caucus.

I stand by my Republican principles. I stand by the Republican platform. I will continue to serve as a Republican Senator from the great state of Georgia. Unfortunately, now I will be forced to refer to my colleagues, who ran on being “Trump conservatives,” as the RINO caucus.

The people of Georgia are 100 percent with me. This is the fight of our lifetime, and I will continue to double down to defend the rule of law and do what is right.

Recent Rasmussen polling shows that 82 percent of Georgia Republicans say Trump is unfairly prosecuted by Willis. Seventy-seven percent of Republicans also say they are not satisfied with tax dollars being used to prosecute Trump. Another 74 percent of Republicans support the Georgia legislature convening a special session to stop Willis from prosecuting Trump.

Despite the feasible mechanisms and polling popularity, Kemp and many state Republicans dismissed Moore’s initiative out of hand.

Because, reasons! And here we all are pounding each other on the head with souvenir Three Stooges/Pelosi-sized prop gavels over Trump! DeSantis! Electability! and Polling! and all the rest of it while another election is going to be fortified with essential vitamins, minerals and fake ballots to help build strong dictatorships 85 million ways.

In his latest book, Mark "Old Yeller" Levin lays it out with the utmost frightening clarity and concision:

The Democrat Party has developed in the political home of the various American Marxist movements, with which they agree and identify. Hence, they are not so repulsed by America’s past—or more accurately, the Democrat Party’s past—as to forever condemn the Democrat Party and refuse any association with it. They ignore or downplay its links to the Ku Klux Klan, white-supremacist neo-Nazis, lynchings, etc. Instead, they target and blame the entire society, culture, and country for the Demorat Party’s contemptible past. To underscore the point, the American Marxists are supportive of the Democat Party’s modern-day promotion of economic socialism, cultural Marxism, and anti-Americanism. In truth, their contempt for the Constitution, and its routine condemnation, is not so much because of some of the Framers’ biographies, but because the Constitution’s firewalls remain an impediment to, or at least slow their revolutionary aims and the speed with which they seek to make them. . .

. . . Of course the Democrat Party wants the big cities and most populous states to rule over the entire country, since these are Democrat strongholds. And, if they could, they would abolish the states. Presidential candidates would not have to campaign in vast parts of the country, only in the dense areas mostly along the two coasts and certain Midwest metropolitan areas. Thus, representation would effectively be denied to tens of millions of people who live in the exurbs and beyond, including rural areas. The states that produce most of the food we eat and energy we consume would have little or no say in the nation’s governance or in the federal government’s rule over them, which would be disastrous civilly, politically, and economically. . .

. . . Unlike the Republican Party, the Democrat Party is more than a political party. It is the state party. It seeks to monopolize the political system, the culture, government, and society. And while the Republican party exists to try to win elections, the Democrat Party plays for keeps—that is, election defeats can never be allowed to interfere with the ideological trajectory the party imposes on the nation. And when the Democrat Party wins elections, it continues building upon the permanent centers of power, including the vast federal bureaucracy, subsidized nongovernment organizations, lifetime activist judges, tenured professors and teachers, party members in the media, etc. The Democrat Party uses the culture and politics to empower itself and its agenda. And Democrats have no intention of surrendering control of either. Consequently, when the Democrat Party wins elections, it claims broad mandates; when it loses elections, it ignores the popular will of the people and turns to the permanent government and its cultural surrogates to sabotage the Republicans and push forward their American Marxist agenda.

The author of the piece, who goes by the nom de plume Carpe Diem, states:

While Levin does not necessarily offer a solution to combating this pervasive Leftist onslaught that we face, he does a commendable job of identifying and outlining the very real dangers that we face, which is a good start.

Look, I dig Levin. But to be honest, he's been writing the same damn book now for the past 20 years. Only the names and outrages have changed and multiplied by orders of magnitude. Yet the most important constant is the nagging question of "the solution." 20 years ago, bad as things were, we still perhaps had a chance to stop this via what I will assume was a relatively untainted or only moderately tainted electoral system.

Well, that's been shot to hell as 2020 and to a lesser extent 2022 have shown us. Assuming that the polling showing Biden cratering is accurate, the only reason to switch him out for the Wookie, Newsom, Whitmer or whoever is to boost their poll numbers to the degree that it makes the inevitable 2024 steal look legitimate. If Biden refuses to go quietly, or if RFK Jr, Cornel West, Marianne Williamson or someone else runs third party regardless of who the Dem stooge candidate will be, the steal would cause a pretty big stink. At least I assume that that is the calculus in the Kalorama-Davos-Beijing Axis.

Moving back to the high level, the problem remains: An irreconcilably divided country, a Junta that controls the instrumentalities and enforcement mechanisms of power, powder kegs both domestically and internationally that can go off at any moment and no means of extricating ourselves from disaster in a quick, orderly and peaceful fashion.

Have a good weekend. See you on the hobby thread tomorrow. Be there. Aloha.

So true. Speaking of the worthless GOP, the news headline on the radio on the way to work this morning was “House passes $300M aid package for Ukraine as government shutdown looms”

Look I’d prefer the govt shut down, but doing things to garner that kind of headline is political malpractice at the highest level. There were 117 no votes on Ukraine aid, all republican…. But that means basically a full half of the GOP house caucus voted yes… and ‘ol Kev allowed it to come to a vote. The GOP is worse than worthless (say that 5 times fast)

It's almost as if these people are leftists posing as Republicans in order to get elected. We see this sort of thing time after time. The drift always seems to be left, very seldom to the right.

It's all theater anyway. The House and Senate are empty shells populated by idiots following a script written by non-elected, faceless bureaucrats and money-men.

Its in the Good & Plenty Clause with that Amendment which transferred all law and rule making to lobbyists and the Regulatory Branch completely bypassing both chambers of Congress and the Executive branch.

Also provided the post hoc veto, where the President, through Executive Orders, can unilaterally remove, modify or expand any law previously written.

39 Hey, remember the name Robert Hur? Does that ring a bell?

He's the totally silent Special Counsel assigned to investigate Biden possessing top secret documents in his office, with a secretary who might be a member of Chinese intelligence for all we know, and his garage. These illegally held documents are rumored to be far more serious than anything Trump had, but Hur is basically sitting on a beach someplace.

https://shorturl.at/tU289

Sources who were present for some of the interviews, including witnesses, told ABC News that authorities had apparently uncovered instances of carelessness from Biden's vice presidency, but that -- based on what was said in the interviews -- it seemed to them that the improper removal of classified documents from Biden's office when he left the White House in 2017 was more likely a mistake than a criminal act.

40 The Republican party is hopeless, literally. Perot knew this and tried an alternative. It was a respectable effort, but doomed. I'll never forget the ferocity and unanimity with which the establishment went after him. Trump was in a better position than anybody in modern history to deconstruct and reform the party, but really didn't try. His grand delusion was, is perhaps still, that he can restore it through the might of his persona and achievements, and that it will ultimately embrace his version of American revivalism.

94 Look, I dig Levin.
++++
Levin is not unique in this. Other even more reputable "conservative voices" are in the same rut. So are the Republican front-runners for the presidency, along with the entire Party leadership (well, any in that group who are perhaps honest - an unlikely bet).

To acknowledge that the game is over and so a new game needs to be played is to acknowledge that the thing to which these people have dedicated their lives - the system of government, the American ideal, etc. - is gone. That gigantic - and likely essential - part of their identities have vanished. In a very real way, a person like that acknowledging and accepting this premise is an act of suicide.

Trump not only tries but is actually doing it. That's the entire point of Trump. The way Republicans went after Perot who was more interested in a spoiler campaign than actually winning pales in comparison to the way they are going after Trump. And unlike Perot Trump is actually winning the fight.

Literally none of the Great American Shell Game would be possible to carry on without them. If we want to fix, or even just salvage *anything* in this fiasco of a political system, the first step has to be the end of the GOP.

Nice! I loved life after learning how to ride a bike. Suddenly more than just my block was open to me. My dad taught me how to ride it on the small farm we also had at the time. Great place to learn. Spills don't really hurt on pastures!

The only downside was that my brother and I had to share a bike, so I always had second priority. It led to some fun wheeling and dealing to negotiate to borrow bikes from others, though - and some lessons learned about checking things out before jumping in and discovering a mechanical fault that results in a face-sized dent in the side of sedan!

"I can ride a bike now" is a big deal. Awesome that you can see it!

132 94 To acknowledge that the game is over and so a new game needs to be played is to acknowledge that the thing to which these people have dedicated their lives - the system of government, the American ideal, etc. - is gone. That gigantic - and likely essential - part of their identities have vanished. In a very real way, a person like that acknowledging and accepting this premise is an act of suicide.

I wonder what the actual poll question was. I suspect it was generalized - like, "Do you think that 'open marriages' are an acceptable idea?"

Had it been specific - like, "Would you participate in an open marriage" or "If your spouse requested an open marriage, would you be willing to grant it," then I suspect that the answers would be quite different

This strikes me as the kind of thing where people don't want to seem to be intolerant, and so will answer in the affirmative so long as it doesn't involve them directly.

Democrats didn't just magically turn into Marxists overnight. Marxists took over the party by beating traditional Democrats and now wear the skin of the Democrat Party. Trump's greatest mistake was not blowing the GOP into a million pieces on his way out the door and starting a new political party. He has paid a great price for that. Some things are too inherently corrupt to salvage. The Republican Party is at the front of that line.

The United States itself will implode soon enough. Maybe if there had been an actual opposition to its destruction that could have been prevented.

The new massive budget sci-fi flick, "The Creator',

from looking at the reviews appears to be exactly what the trailers made it look like:

A massively budgeted anti-human, humans should die as a species movie ala Avatar and Planet of the Apes.

Incredible CGI though, so probably a hit.

Though with the anti-life, anti-human Left in control of most of the AI programming, "The creator" maybe be less a depressing "die humans die men, women, children, babies" wish casting by hollywood than a glimpse of the future.

208 This weekend rich Republican donors are meeting to try and draft Glenn Youngkin because DeSantis is going nowhere. That is the Republican Party. They despise Trump.

The Youngkin thing is worrisome.
Posted by: Divide by Zero at September 29, 2023 08:35 AM (enJYY)

One of two things is true. Either DeSantis is a true American hero and they supported him entering the race to try and taint his future chances, or he is yet another chameleon and they supported him to hurt Trump.

Those two options are the same for Youngkin.

216 To acknowledge that the game is over and so a new game needs to be played is to acknowledge that the thing to which these people have dedicated their lives - the system of government, the American ideal, etc. - is gone. That gigantic - and likely essential - part of their identities have vanished. In a very real way, a person like that acknowledging and accepting this premise is an act of suicide.

239 The Ukraine War is a core American domestic political issue. Mitch McConnell has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine. Too bad it's a controversial position in his party, because the war in Ukraine is an issue of utmost domestic importance to the United States.

Ukraine the center of Donald Trump’s first impeachment, and featured heavily in internal Republican machinations. The one change that the Trump camp made to the 2016 Republican Party platform was watering down support for Ukraine.

Russia is a big part of the reason that the United States’ defense budget is north of $800 billion … and fast approaching $900 billion. Not only does Russia’s defeat have budgetary implications, but it will inform whether we have to fight a hot war against either China or North Korea that would cost trillions of dollars, claim untold lives, and destroy the world economy.

This is all quite clear to Democrats and old-guard Republicans. But Trump’s MAGA cult has lined up behind their authoritarian pro-Putin leader, rupturing the Republican Party and leading to a seemingly inevitable government shutdown at midnight on Sept. 30.

Moderators aside, the next debate needs to be a debate. These farces are not debates in any recognizable form.

- Ask the question
- *All* candidates answer the same question.
- Answers are time-limited. If you hit the deadline, your mic is cut off.
- There are punishments for interrupting
- There is structured rebuttal time, and everyone can offer a time-limited rebuttal if desired.

Until the "debates" are actually debates, there is less than no point.

I've just come to the sad conclusion that Americans would just rather let their kids take a beating or raping or whatever because they are worried about their jobs, Twitter followings or whatever.

The most important job you have as a parent is to first protect your kids. Many other tasks come after that, but those may not be accomplished without the first.

And to be honest, when your kids see you do nothing while they take a pummeling, they rightly recognize you don't love them and aren't in their corner.

From that point they begin to formulate survival plans. It could be joining groups that will defend them. It could be finding ways to dull the pain they experience. It could be finding ways to deliver the vengeance they seek.

People love to criticize Gen Z, but let's be honest, they were raised with the values their parents instilled in them, or rather have been forced to find whatever coping mechanism you left them to figure out on their own.

Youngkin is still out, but no longer "100%" out...he says he's focused on winning the VA elections this year. That probably will be a big sign of whether he ends up in or out (if he pulls the House and Senate to R majorities, it becomes more likely...if he loses the majorities of both, he's out...if it stays the same, who knows)...

There is much public back-and-forth between "both sides" about the funding deadline. The Democrats want to ensure that grandma is taken care of, the Republicans want to kill grandma. The Republicans want to contain spending on behalf of the people, the Democrats are wasteful with out-of-control outlays. Many soundbites are generated. Behind the scenes, the real work is being done in private sessions while the public posturing acts as a distraction. At the 11th hour, "both sides" announces "the best deal we could get under the circumstances." Everything is fully funded.

The ballooning defense budget angle confused me as well. We have to help Ukraine win their war because it's costing us too much to support them...but just stopping the support to save the money isn't an option.

I still don't understand how helping Ukraine stop Russia prevents war with Chine or North Korea in the near future, but Kos said so, so it must be true 11th dimensional chess beyond my ken.

We need something closer to that. Journalist/MSM-hosted debates have been a circus and a farce for years. You can't fix them, they have to be completely reimagined, and without journalists/news outlet who are more interested in creating a scandal/news story than getting answers.

366 That whole thread is insane, Russia is no longer our primary enemy or threat. They can't even successfully invade a mid-sized neighboring country, something that you would think would be over in a month.

They have invaded and captured all the lands they stated they would in their initial statement of the SMO, save perhaps Kharkiv.

This is exactly what I said would happen over a year and a half ago.

Americans would claim that Russia's "real plan" was to conquer all of Europe, and then will declare victory when they freeze the conflict with Russia having seized the areas that they clearly stated they sought to protect.

And they will have destroyed the largest standing army in Europe and most of the existing resources of the rest of the NATO members in the process, all while taking nominal losses themselves, increasing their industrial capacity, enlarging their standing army, breaking free from the US dollar, increasing national patriotism and forming powerful new allies.

And what does the west have left? Flying suicide drones in for what are essentially terrorist strikes and shutting down Orthodox churches. Victory never tasted so bad.

It's basically irrelevant now, and the next one is totally irrelevant. It's an unnatural structure that resulted from the first easily-defined generation (the Boomers) that came up because of the massive disruption that was the War. This is unnatural, and the effect is now petering out because real life is fairly messy. The breakdown usually goes like this:
1946-1965: Boomers
1966-1980 (or 1985): Gen X
1981 (or 1986) - 2000: Millennials
2001-2015 or so: Gen Z
2015 or so - present: Unnamed

The Boomers birthed most of Gen X *and* most of the Millennials. Gen X and the Millennials birthed the Zoomers. The named generational cohort concept makes less sense the further away we get from 1946, since the amount of variance inevitably increases. Without a massive and near-universal reproductive and demographic disruption like we had during WWII, generational cohorts do not have bright dividing lines. The whole thing is a bizarre artifact.

In that, He has also told us what is sin, and it's pretty easy to understand. There are no grey areas. But in the end he has also urged us to abandon sin so that we might be saved. We all have that ability and in the end we are all sinners, but God and God alone will judge what's in our hearts.

He came out as a conservative and rolls his eyes so much they look like they're going to come out of his head if , for instance, a person mentions transgenders. He's also tutoring other college students ( He's in his final year) so he's doing quite well academically, thanks be to God.

Oh, don't bet on that. The post-Zoomers may well end up totally based, whether lefty or non-lefty. They're coming up in a dead America and are going to be fucked in every way. If you're looking for a civil catastrophe, an unmoored generation experiencing near universal anomie that is loyal to nothing but holds everything in contempt because of the destruction with which the grew up is a great way to achieve it.

It's why I think the really seismic stuff - stuff at "the country breaks up and disappears" scale - will get started in earnest in about 20 years' time. The Millennials are a huge generation that is reflexively conformist and deeply conservative (in the real sense - they are very invested in the power structure) and will hang on for as long as possible, crowding out the Zoomers like the last mega generation (the Boomers) held on and croweded out the smaller intermediate generation (Gen X).

But the post-Zoomers will, I suspect, tear down the rotten edifice. They will be loyal to no one and will have one hell of an axe to grind.

>>He's said and done many laudable things but a dedicated reform of the party is not one of them. His equivocation over the RNC leadership was the latest example. His well-intentioned conceit has been that his magnificent leadership would bend the party to his will, that he could schmooze and charm the GOP to the nationalistic cause. Never going to happen. A wrecking ball is required. That's not Trump's style, for better or for worse.

I think some expect too much out of a single person or a single election. The uniparty in DC has been organizing and consolidating power for decades. They unleashed it on Trump before he was even sworn in and handcuffed his administration for almost 2 years and he still got an amazing amount of stuff done.

He's been facing legal challenges that would break most people for 7 years on made up bullshit and some of his detractors, even here, blame him for that. How is he supposed to completely reform the party by himself? He wasn't just fighting Dems in DC, he was fighting many in his own party.

It's going to take time and effort from a lot of people to turn this ship. A guy like Trump can lead but he needs an army of us.

It was a convenient way to draw a dividing line because the Boomers were real. It's less meaningful as time goes on, and disregards too many factors in the real world.

For example, I am a Dread Millennial. I am a younger child of older Boomers, and my oldest sibling is Gen X. As a result, I was exposed to a lot of Gen X culture, etc. when I was growing up, and my parents were older. I am much closer to later Gen X than I am to Millennials my own age who were the oldest children of younger Boomers or who were only children.

It's messy. The Boomers were a clean break, and Gen X was fairly consistent for the same reason, but it started getting muddy after that and is now extremely muddy. The Millennials are probably the last "real" generation in this respect, possibly the Zoomers. After them, though, it's back to the way it was pre-Boomers: the "generational" distinction isn't relevant anymore. The cohorts are all mixed up now, as they always were

And into sometime in the 60s. I don't really categorize them as having the same political, social mindset.

467 Back 15 years ago when my wife was first diagnosed with cancer, it was her first mamogram (age 40) that caught it. At the time she had a cousin working as a doctor in Canada where they had already transitioned to 50 for their first cancer screenings and she said to my wife that she would most likely have died before the cancer was found, leaving me with little-uns to raise all by myself. There was NO family history of breast cancer either.

If anything, I think social media is the last gasp of reinforcing it because similarly-aged people can coordinate in near isolation better than ever before. TikTok is for Zoomers, YouTube is for Millennials, etc. Time makes fools of us all, and it's primarily time that has undone the clean-break "generation" concept.

There are noticeable but subtle changes to the appearance of the breast when cancer is present. Women should be aware of them. Self examination on a regular basis is important too.

"But to be honest, he's been writing the same damn book now for the past 20 years. Only the names and outrages have changed and multiplied by orders of magnitude. Yet the most important constant is the nagging question of "the solution."

Yeah, don't know how he does it but he's but one person whistling in the wind. Easy to ignore, mock, and with odds he'll burn out soon enough.

When I really want to be amused I look up Most Diverse Public Schools in _____. Here's one, in part, from another state: It has 922 students in grades 9-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1. According to state test scores, 5% of students are at least proficient in math and 17% in reading. But, damn, A+ in diversity. My county: One school district w/12,000 + students and, according to state test scores, 18% are at least proficient in math and 36% in reading and A+ for Diversity.

The kids aren't dumb. Many will be keeping the community colleges, certain state schools, unlicensed training programs, etc. going, as their families hope for a better future for them. What's the odds if they can't get into 'government.' USA Caste system.

Aloha.

A large percentage of us died in a little dustup in Southeast Asia as well. I was drafted in 1967, received orders for 'Nam in mid '68. Thankfully, a few days later they were rescinded. My MOS was going to be involved in rebuilding a communication center in Saigon. Plans were dropped to send us over there. Lost two close friends and 5 classmates there. So, yeah, many of us, especially those of us who came from working class parents, were NOT part of the "hippie" crowd. I knew of no one in my age group who gravitated to that philosophy. Didn't even enter my mind. First president I voted for was Nixon, in 1968. I turned 21 in June of that year, while in the army.
