See? — ONT WTF (@OntWtf) September 22, 2023 — ONT WTF (@OntWtf) November 13, 2020 This Is My Shocked Face Married People Are Happier new research from the University of Chicago that suggests that “Americans who are married with children are now leading happier and more prosperous lives, on average, than men and women who are single and childless.” And not just a little bit happier, either. According to Wilcox and Bass there is a “startling 30-percentage-point happiness divide between married and unmarried Americans.” In other words, the happiness divide and the marriage divide are largely the same. Sam Peltzman, lead researcher behind the University of Chicago paper, isolated all other factors among thousands of respondents, including income, education, race, location, age, and gender. He concluded that “the most important differentiator” when it comes to who is happy and who is not is marriage. “Low happiness characterizes all types of non-married,” Peltzman writes, whether divorced, widowed, or never married. “No subsequent population categorization will yield so large a difference in happiness across so many people.” In other words, the decline of marriage over the last several decades is causing the decline in happiness, or at least most of it. As Peltzman told The Atlantic in statistical hyperbole: “The only happy people for 50 years have been married people.”Wait, you mean something that has been a cornerstone of all human societies for as long as there have been humans works? Inspiring Words Through The Perilous Night However, none of it is working, or not very well. Partly because one wonders at their targeting, but mostly because they are leftists and think like leftists. Their model of the world is broken. They can’t imagine that any of us are doing what we’re doing because we love America and the ideals of individual liberty, and not because — as on their side — it’s a scheme for being paid or for increased power. So the attacks they try only land in a very few instances. It’s like their starting #metoo to “get Trump” (which it obviously was) and instead snagging a lot of leftist males. (Though it does make me wonder what they thought they knew about Babbit and Boyland. Doesn’t it you? Not to mention that retired carpenter in Utah. I think they’re jumping at shadows and there is no pattern. They only think there is.) Yeah, the fact that they’re trying this, and view me as an obstacle to their crazy-cakes grabs for power is disquieting. But not new. She, my son and I looked at dozens of offerings before settling on a upscale pizza brand. DIL didn't have any interest in pursuing a Yum Brands franchise. Every one of them have some pluses and some minuses. I sold my interest back to them after 18 months or so. They now have 12 stores with options for another 10 or so. They retired at 41 and now live in Europe with the grands. The stores run themselves - well, the big $$$ Operations Manager we hired runs them. It's a good gig but you have to set them up right and the ever present issue is hiring good staff to keep it clicking. Staffing was always the biggest issue. Regarding that dim bulb with the $80 ticket. I've had repair tickets. They are the easiest, cheapest tickets to deal with. I had one for a taillight out. You get a piece of paper ticket that is basically a warning. You go to some service station, and pay a couple bucks for a little light that they put in for you. Then all you have to do is either go to police station, or find a cop and they enter it into their computer that you fixed it. There's no fine, if you fix it.

I missed where the legislative, executive, and judicial powers were vested solely in the police. That being said... You CAN make your case to the cop but you had better know what you are doing. I have, and got away with a warning, but ONLY because I knew what I was doing. (Example: a cop during a stop was reading me the Riot Act at one point for the address on the license. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon That's all true, but in return you get a lot of support on operating the thing. Operating a business on your own is very risky. 61 Regarding that dim bulb with the $80 ticket.
Posted by: nerdygirl at September 21, 2023 10:28 PM (0Htd1) The last time I got pulled over for a burned out headlight I didn't know I had, the cop was cool about it. TX DPS, no less. This is the reason I always counsel know your neighbors. Who is in your cell? Don't have a cell? Create one. Those you can trust. But for a fortunate few, there is no hiding in the woods. I hate everything about the last video. The cop's pathetic need to dominate in every situation, no matter how trivial, the woman's entitled attitude, and her not recognizing that the America of her childhood ceased to exist decades ago.
I find no humor in a cop threatening the life of an elderly woman over such a triviality (tasers kill regularly, and forcing an old woman to grovel in the dirt is sickening), while felony robbery occurs hourly around the corner. I don't have to wonder anymore what it would be like to live in a police state. If it were an elderly black woman, would the cop behave so aggressively? Posted by: Sloucho at September 21, 2023 10:45 PM (R1rJ0) 102
The woman had an expired tag? Or something like that?
Not to get all libertarian but...any law means the government is willing to kill you for not obeying. And you see that here - the woman didn't want to pay a fine and she "resisted" and...the cop escalated until he got her to comply. So for any law we encode the first question that should be asked is, "Is this worth killing someone over?" Was it here? Of course if you've got a cop in front of you, you should do what he says - at that point you aren't helping yourself by disobeying in any way. One more thing: one reason for the many warnings: the TX LTC. The cops see that, and:
"Are you armed?" "No." "Any guns in the vehicle?" "One, round in chamber, in the dash"." "You keep your hands where I can see them." Because: if I have that, well, there goes the obligatory "Do you have a warrant?" questions. There goes a lot of questions, because in order to get the TX LTC, you get an anal rectal exam, practically, from DPS. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at September 21, 2023 11:14 PM (8sMut) 169

Perhaps but being snotty to a cop doesn't give them the right or authority to do a goddamn thing. They don't have the lawful authority to beat up or taze or shoot or arrest a teenage kid (or anyone for that matter) just for being snotty or sarcastic. Doesn't mean that abusing their power in this fashion isn't routine, and remaining silent could save your life - but it shouldn't be tolerated or accepted.

Ok I did get a ticket a couple weeks ago - and I was lucky to get it, dumbest thing I've ever done in a car. I was pulling out onto a busy road, late in the afternoon, looked to the west and the sun low in the sky blinded me, I didn't see anything. Pulled out, making a left turn on the road - and ran right into a police car that I never saw. Damn.
not too bad, both vehicles are repairable, no injuries. We were only about 4 blocks from the police station, and it was a slow evening, so within about 5 minutes I was standing on the side of the road surrounded by 6 cop cars. Luckily, they all treated it like a big joke and laughed at the cop who got hit and all the paperwork he was gonna have to do since I dented his car. They gave me a "failure to yield right of way" ticket, and yeah, I really couldn't argue with that. Posted by: Tom Servo at September 21, 2023 11:50 PM (S6gqv) 239

Now, they've kicked out everyone else. Ostensibly, because they couldn't afford them. So... what happened to PV's coffers? Why are they in a dire financial situation now? Obviously, there's going to be donor concerns, but crash and burn in just 4 months? Did some one kick out everyone else just so they could loot the treasury? Probably a good idea to get a listing of each and every board member there, particularly the ones still on the board after the bone-cutting. 267 This Texas town has about 250 people. It has 50 sworn police officers.

(because of the piece you linked) This town was located on a heavily traveled north/south highway near Lake Palestine, and a strong rumour I heard is that traffic tickets weren't really what they were after, although they handed out a lot. They would look for anyone who looked "dirty" driving through town, or illegals, and then they wouldn't arrest them, they'd just jack them for all the cash and drugs they had on them and pocket it themselves. I maintain that cops are a product of their environment. If you live in a corrupt Big Shitty or one-horse town beholden to the Machine or Big Man respectively, guess what, your cops are going to be a goon squad. Live in a less terrible area and your cops will most likely be pretty chill.
I'm more a fan of sheriffs than PDs but gee, wouldn't you know it, the less terrible places tend to be out in the county where it's just the sheriff. Almost like large numbers of screaming apes ruin everything. Posted by: CppThis at September 22, 2023 12:25 AM (PZvjL) 293

257 Out of the 100+ teachers I had teaching me as a kid, I had, what, five who were worth a damn?
Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 Off the top of my head I came up with 6 teachers that I could remember vividly. One was an asshole, the other five had a positive impact. School was easy for me when I wasn't being a trouble maker. My junior year of HS my semester gp were 0.8 and 4.0. In general, the rank and file I know as an adult, don't place themselves above criticism. The administrative elements of both professions is a different story. That is where the progtards have taken over. Don't get me wrong, many of those entering the profession have alterior motives. We just need to be careful regarding the size of paintbrush we use. Posted by: Sock Monkey * Invictus maneo at September 22, 2023 12:07 AM (+LG5B) Which was my point (I may have not been clear). When I decided to swallow a lot of pride and go for teaching, I had to bear in mind that not all my teachers were a) mediocre or b) assholes. I decided to focus on others. My oft-mention fourth grade teacher among them. My senior English teacher and German teacher are other positive influences. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at September 22, 2023 12:30 AM (8sMut) 299
>>>Every local knows you WILL get stopped if over the limit. We have a very low crime rate as the meth heads and small time B&E guys can't drive up here and stay under the limit. The speed limits, in reality, are filters to determine who is a resident and who isn't.

I had a warning this week. Came to a four-way stop. Cop was on my left. Came to a complete stop, right turn signal on, made a right. Got lit up for stopping over the line. That, I think, was petty Years ago a CHP tried to dog me on the 101 in SoCal. I was on my way to work with the cruise control set right at the 70mph speed limit, and he came zooming up at about 900mph, braked and went over into the right lane. Parked himself about a car length ahead, and started slowing down, so I slowed down and stayed in position. He got it down to about 50 with a bunch of folks behind us going "nope, I ain't passing him". Then someone got antsy and passed at barely 60ish. Sure enough, the Chippie waited until the guy got a car length or two ahead and went all gumball with the lights. Fucking asshole. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at September 22, 2023 12:33 AM (xFY1u) 301

Regardless of what the cops tell you, there IS a quota. Check your town's or county's budget.
A cop in the town just up the road from one I used to live in told me once they didn't have a "quota". Instead, they had a "personal goal" that they were supposed to set themselves. Which just happened to conform to some metrics put out by the department. Look at Coffee City, TX and how ticket money corrupted their cops. And many of their cops, to include their chief, were absolute dirtbags. Then there's Talliaferro County, GA (pronounced "tollyfer"). They used to make a killing off speeders and drug busts on I-20. Until this happened. . .and their patrol cars disappeared from that stretch of road: https://is.gd/HFS303 Posted by: Bert G at September 22, 2023 12:35 AM (VARTN) 303

This is how the commies won in Big City circa 1975.
Everything was normal until a bruhaha between a teacher and a student. The student (parents) got a lawyer and filed suit on the teacher. - First time a judge allowed a frivolous lawsuit (frivolous suits were in vogue but this was the first here and an exemplar). The lawyer bringing the suit and the judge allowing it was the first part. The second part, the school system/board would not support the teacher's legal defense. There had never been such a suit and always, as the teacher was representative of the district, the expectation of support was a given. Wrong, the teacher received no support, she had to pay for her own lawyer and the school board let the fox (union) in the hen house. Fear of lawsuits ran like a plague. In comes the rescue; Honey, join the union and we'll get you the best lawyer in town. Just as they are using lawfare against the nation the teachers union used lawfare against teachers. A succession of lawsuits and the teachers were on board never suspecting the corruption to come. Posted by: Braenyard at September 22, 2023 12:56 AM (8WRKL) 327

Considering that city PDs are for the most part trapped between thugs and Marxists I can understand that motivation, but it occurs to me that it rarely ends well. I had a state trooper lie on the stand against me, (still was found not guilty) so I'm not too partial to cops. That said, it's a frickin' traffic ticket. Sign next to the line that says in bold letters "without admitting guilt" and get on with your life.
And the correct answer to "you have an equipment violation" is either "I never noticed that/had no way of noticing that" or "Wow! What a coincidence, I was just on my way to the auto parts store to buy a new bulb/ lens/ housing", not "Yeah, it's been busted for six months. So what? Mrs. Reason went to the TX Republican Convention last year in Houston. My daughter went with and took pics all day long, as any 18 year old girl would do.
My absolute favorite picture is of a huge stone trashcan at ghe convention center, loaded to overflowing with Cornyn lanyards. Apparently his campaign had "donated" these for everyone's convention credentials to hang from. Cornyn has stayed in office by keeping a low profile and intimidating any would-be primary threats. If anyone can pull that weed out by the taproot, it'll be Paxton. Posted by: reason at September 22, 2023 01:46 AM (YHZy+) 363
30% to 40% of first time marriages end in divorce, 50% of second marriages and 60% of third time marriages. As many as half of those first time marriages that stay together do so for the children.
The “happy marriage” statistic is counter to another study that found that as little as 10% of marriages are actually successful. Most apparently muddle along due to financial and social reasons. Based on my personal experience, marriage sucks. Still married to the same woman after 27 years who really puts a good effort into the “for worse” part of the vows. I dunno know about the state/local laws regarding not signing but that dimwit woman escalated everything. I cannot blame the cop. Enough cops get shot, wounded and killed these days by lawbreakers, especially under similar circumstances.
