It's not that easy to get out of jury duty any more. Last time, I had to all but call the defendant a crackhead drug dealer before the judge -- with much annoyance -- finally sent me home. I was answering voir dire with obviously biased answers up until then, hoping to be sent home by the judge. I probably would have gotten kicked off by the defense lawyer using preemptories, but who knows?

There should have been a clear statement of the judge after he disclosed that the request existed along the lines of, "Juror identity is clearly protected and not subject to any disclosure request at any level. I am re-affirming that now verbally, and will issue an written order to the clerks in a few minutes to clarify and confirm that."

I've served twice. Sexually violent predator that we voted to keep locked up. It's a civil trial. This dude broke into people's homes and would rape little girls. The state has deemed these people so dangerous that they civilly confine them after serving their sentences. This is california so imagine how dangerous these people are.
The other case was heroin dealers.
The defense kicked me off of a gang stabbing case. Thankfully, I wanted nothing to do with that.

I was interested in what crime this could possibly be, and thought for sure I would find out there was some other connection, or that the girl was the daughter of someone powerful, or some other reason why the guy was getting prosecuted for doing nothing that a million other guys do every day.

I agree it's very far-fetched. But if you look at the commentary over the video of how it all went down, you will see that the circumstances were VERY strange. She is clearly acting a role that was pre-arranged, and so is everyone around her. No way it all went down spontaneously. I watched the entire protest, live, from about 15 camera angles (streaming) on twitch. I'm sure that twitch stream (who was rebroadcasting 15 other streams) is memory holed.
Everything about that day was odd. ESPECIALLY the media reporting afterwards.
Because what I saw was people milling around, some light vandalism, smiling cops. Then people who acted an awful lot like antifa causing issues.

My first experience was while I was in my Fall semester of Senior year in college. At the time, they would call you up for one trial or 3 WEEKS. I finally got on an attempted murder trial after 2 1/2 weeks which went for 6 days.
I still wonder just how I passed that semester.

With some very rare exceptions, they want pliable idiots on the jury. Both sides do. So they try to get rid of all smart professionals and others they think are smart. Sometimes there are too many of these kinds of people to get rid of them all, so they are stuck with a jury containing some smart people. But that's not what they want. In the case of that old creepy guy, clearly the prosecution wanted a jury of dumb hysterical women, and the defense wanted a jury of dumb dude-bros.

At last jury service, the defense lawyer showed arresting officers a picture of the defendant at the time of arrest, then again at the cop shop. In the *photographs* the shirts was two different colors, and he got the cops to acknowledge this on the stand.
When we retired to consider the evidence, two or three of the jurors said, 'But the shirt! It must have been a different guy'. I had to actually point out to them that the photos were never entered into evidence, and that WE never saw them. AND, that Photoshop takes no more than a few clicks to alter color. I was astounded by how easily jurors are misled by the lawyers.

Likely a lot of things in Africa are going to change. I read that France got oil from Niger for 8 cents instead of 9-10 dollar world price. This kind of nonsense is going to at a minimum get them selling to other countries in BRICS rather than the West.

I did that once when the defense attorney asked prospective jurors if they could believe that heroin addicts buy their heroin ampule in bulk and compared it to going to Walmart to buy toilet paper. I called BS on that and was not invited back after lunch.
Another civil case I lectured both attorneys for not being able to settle the case and dragging people into the jury. Still, I have served on juries.

Probably not the first time that having the feds prosecuting some one got the jurors' back hairs up. And that was 2018.
The next year, the Richard Jewelll movie came out, based on a 1997 Vanity Fair article about the feds and the frame up.
In other words, there's been lots out there for some time to convince people that you need to be extra careful if it's the feds. And they aren't all announcing themselves on the inter tubes.
