AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

8/16 – P asked for prayers for her nephew R, out east. He suffers from Chiari malformation – his brain doesn’t quite fit in his skull, so part of it protrudes from the base. He has suffered all his life with migraines and dizziness, which makes it nearly impossible to keep a job. A neurosurgical specialist will operate on him on 8/21. Please pray that the operation is successful, and he will be able to live a much more normal life.
8/25 Update – The operation was successful, so far. He no longer has headaches and nausea. But he cannot yet bend, twist, or life anything, so he doesn’t know if that will trigger the symptoms again. Please keep praying for him and his wife, who is providing all basic body care now.

8/19 Eromero requested prayers for his friend Lloyd as he transfers from ortho rehab to assisted living. He is having some confusion and needs clarity of mind. Lloyd’s wife, and Mr. and Mrs. Eromero could also use prayers as they try to provide care.

8/19 – Coelacanth asks for continued prayers. There are problems with his son Cam. Cam has been concealing many things for many years and has been lying to his family. His mother is heartbroken.
8/24 Update – Cam is still suffering with his significant health issues, and his mental state is unstable. He is making decisions based on feelings, and guided by bad advice, will not consider his parents’ cautions.
9/9 Update – Coelacanth and his wife have had the “adult” conversation with Cam, since he had been misusing the money they’d sent. They did pay off his student loans, per their original promise, and Cam called to thank them. He still has a lot of medical problems, and so much has been taken away in the last 6 months – he went from an Olympic class athlete to needing a cane to keep his balance. Prayers are still needed.

8/19 – Sock Monkey could use prayers for his wife’s younger brother and his family. They lost everything in the Gray fire, west of Spokane. So far Sock Monkey is still at home, about 4 miles from the fire evacuation area.

8/19 – Free Tibet has a biopsy coming up and asked for prayers for a good outcome. He says it’s been a long two years.
9/2 Update – The biopsy showed it was malignant, however the resulting surgery is said to have removed it all. Thanks to all for the prayerful support.

8/23 – A concern was brought up in the comments that applies to many churches nowadays. Prayers are needed for churches (members and leaders) to remain faithful to the Bible. Some congregations are resigning from church denominations that have chosen to teach something other than Biblical Christianity. Some people are having to separate from their church homes, due to the false teaching occurring. Please pray for people to have the knowledge and strength to remain faithful to the Word.

8/23 – Tonypete asked for prayers for Miss R, which is having a procedure done. She sometimes has very poor reactions to them, so it’s a bit worrying.

8/26 – Tecumseh Tea requested prayers for herself and her husband. They are going through a difficult time in their marriage. They are committed and will see it through, but asks for prayers that God will heal their marriage and help them each see what needs to change.
9/9 Update – Thank you for the prayers and please keep them coming. They are felt, and God is at work in us. They have been through difficulties the last 3.5 years and stopped dealing with things in their marriage. They are dealing with them now and relying on God’s strength and grace.

8/26 – Jewells45 posted that she could use prayers. Her last round of chemo was tough on her.
9/9 Update – The CT scan found another spot on her upper left lung that is about 6 mm. The rest of the nodes showed no change, and a few very small ones in both lower lungs. The doctor was concerned enough to order a PET scan, which was then scheduled for 11/29!

8/26 – Dash my Lace Wings asked for continued prayers. Her husband is still sober but needs to develop some interests to keep his mind and body busy – something that will give him joy and purpose in life.

8/26 – Farmer Bob provided an update. Mrs. Bob came for a weeklong visit, but she only stayed a day. She said reconciliation was too much work, and that she was feeling too free and unburdened without him and the kids, and so she left without saying goodbye to the girls. She has been posting party pictures to Facebook that the girls are seeing, which is hurting them. And she has served Farmer Bob with divorce papers. On the bright side, he has lost 115 pounds, started flight school, and most importantly, is closer to God and his girls than ever.

8/26 – Fox2! requested prayers for an old friend, T, who lost her husband unexpectedly. She is not amused by all the contradictory information and direction she is getting from her husband’s employer, insurance, and soon to begin adventures with the local probate court. And then she had to put her horse down. Prayers are greatly appreciated.

8/26 –Don Draper said his mother is expected to pass this week. Prayers, good wishes and thoughts are again requested, this time for her soul to have a safe journey. Thanks to all who gave prayers before.

8/27 – ghbucky asked for prayers for his oldest brother’s wife (both in their 80s and very dear to him) has been hospitalized and intubated due to pneumonia, likely due to covid. This means she cannot have visitors and his brother is under quarantine. She is very feeble and has been dealing with circulatory issues. Ghbucky fears the worst.

8/28 – Fenelon Spoke is concerned for a friend of a friend named Mike (age 39) who had major gastric surgery. He is now on breathing apparatus because he wasn’t doing well. The nurses are on strike, so the patients are not getting the care they need. Prayers are appreciated.

8/29 – Swodog asked for prayers as the hurricane was headed toward his house. The family is all safely inland, but their home may be washed away.

8/29 – Mpfs requested prayers for healing of his tooth, which turned out to be a fistula, and very painful. Oral surgery is scheduled.

8/30 – Debby Doberman Schultz asked for prayers. Her husband passed away on 8/30, with her sitting beside him, holding his hand. The kids had been in and out, but the end it was like the beginning - just the two of them. As painful as it was, she wouldn’t have it any other way. She is so gratified that he is relieved of his suffering.

9/2 – Oddbob’s granddaughter was released from the hospital. Since then, she has had only one seizure so it seems like the meds and keto diet are working. The docs say she might grow out of it in a few years but of course can’t promise anything. If not, she and her parents are in for a lifelong process of monitoring, controlling, and coping. He thanks everyone for their prayers and concern.

9/2 – Skip shared his concerns about his aunt and uncle, who are moving to a retirement community soon. His uncle is not doing well, mentally or physically. Skip hopes for more peace for them.

9/8 – Inogame requested prayers for his wife and their next daughter, due in March. Please help pray for health. His wife is struggling with morning sickness, but otherwise both are healthy. He also sends thanks for the Horde’s prayers of support, both now and when they had miscarriages in the past.

9/9 – Jewells asked for prayers for her brother-in-law and his wife. The brother-in-law has been diagnosed with dementia. He is diabetic and cannot give himself his injections, and he refuses to let his wife help him. He also refuses to stay home, even getting into the car with strangers to get away. Please pray for strength and wisdom for her, and for him to accept the changes that have to happen.

9/9 – NaughtyPine asked for prayers for one of her brothers. He’d been in the hospital for a week after a breakdown. This is the strong brother, the one who takes care of everyone else and never asks for anything.

9/9 – San Franpsycho sent some updates: Paul, who we have been praying for as he deals with cancer, was admitted to the hospital last week for an ulcer. The NG tube was removed, and he will be able to eat soon. The other update is that Mrs. F. is feeling better in the ER, after 2 fluid IVs.

9/9 – RedMindBlueState requested prayers. His brother-in-law’s mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and is not doing well. Prayers also for the family at this difficult time.

9/14 – creeper asked for prayers for a man who has destroyed his back after years of hard physical labor. He can’t have any more back surgery, so he is having an electronic nerve stimulator put in. Prayers that it would work would be appreciated.

9/14 – FenelonSpoke requested prayers for Jessie, their church organist. She hasn’t been able to play at church for a while, but she is back in the hospital. Prayers are appreciated!

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Thank you Annie for your work.

She's doing well right now though. But wow.

13 G'morning, Horde.

Thank you to the Moron who made sure Annie got the prayer request for Q, my friend with the worn-out back.

Temporary stimulator was implanted day before yesterday. Evidently there's a learning curve with this machine. It does seem to help and if the improvement continues they'll install a permanent one. Post-op discomfort makes it hard to assess any progress.

Thank you all so much for the prayers. I knew you could help. Hugs to every last member of Teh Horde.

43 Something I learned this week: In Malta, Mary is venerated as Our Lady of Victories - note the plural.

She is credited with the defeat of the Ottoman siege in the 1500s, which was lifted on Sept. 8. Centuries later, Malta was under siege again, this time by the Axis powers. On Sept. 8, 1943, Italy surrendered to the Allies, so that's Her second victory for Malta.

Of course, Sept. 12 is the anniversary of the 1683 Battle of Vienna and the victory there is also attributed to Marian intercession. Oct. 7 is of course the feast day for Our Lady of Victory, remembering Her role through the Rosary in achieving the defeat of the Ottoman fleet at Lepanto in 1571.

When a statue of Mary was vandalized at our parish recently, my first thought was that those responsible better repent and quickly.

This is a category error, same as with Floyd. Our police dept. is polite and professional, yet because people were mad, they beat them up, reviled them, cut funding, etc.

Cops quit, crime went up, and the folly of punishing the innocent for the deeds of the guilty was made manifest.

52 "Hope your cataract procedure is going well. I'm having it done shortly and am following your progress."

Final follow up shows near 20/20 in the left eye due to the different lens that we chose. Around 20/40 in the right eye due to the retina surgery earlier preventing use of the same type lens as the left eye.

Both procedures were effortless, and should not be feared.

The requirement for reading glasses is a little more pronounced than I anticipated, but acceptable.

I am having issues with the left eye due to oil glands on the eyelid getting gummed up and preventing proper tear production, but with warm compresses, that should clear up.

Overall, glad I did it, as night driving had become impossible due to halo effect with the cataracts.

Best way to describe the "Oh, the colors are amazing' post surgery is that prior to surgery, imagine if everything is lit with a warm white incandescent light bulb, and afterward, a cool white bulb. Distinct shift from yellow toward blue spectrum afterward.

72 28 ... Dash my lace wigs,

I understand his wish to be excellent immediately. I had the same attitude. If knitting is too long a process, perhaps some simple whittling projects would suit him (if he is steady enough with a small whittling knife). A Flexcut inch and a half whittling knife is a good choice and it's easy to maintain a good edge. There are a bunch of simple whittling videos on YT that can be done with small pieces of wood. Things like 'the 5 minute owl or wizard. (They take longer for beginners.) Check the Linker channel on YT.

Also, check out "Woodcarving Illustrated" magazine. It covers choosing and maintaining tools and projects from highly advanced to the simplest. Just seeing an issue might spark his interest, if he has any. I find whittling to be very absorbing.

159 I’m very grateful that alert and fast-acting protectors from Gavin de Becker and Associates (GDBA) spotted and detained an armed man who attempted to approach me at my Hispanic Heritage speech at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles tonight. The man, wearing two shoulder holsters with loaded pistols and spare ammunition magazines was carrying a U.S. Marshal badge on a lanyard and beltclip federal ID. He identified himself as a member of my security detail. Armed GDBA team members moved quickly to isolate and detain the man until LAPD arrived to make the arrest. I’m also grateful to LAPD for its rapid response.
I’m still entertaining a hope that President Biden will allow me Secret Service protection. I am the first presidential candidate in history to whom the White House has denied a request for protection.

Seriously?

Look, I yield to none in hating the University of Michigan, but even I can concede that there are some good parts. The medical center there is first-rate and one of the only places in the country set up to treat one of my daughters, and they did a great job.

Even as a Spartan undergrad, I had to give serious consideration to the Correlates of War project, which was fascinating to me. Though overrun with leftists, Michigan did support Cecil Eby, who literally wrote the book on the Americans in Spain. Stanley G. Payne seems to have built a similar enclave in Madison dedicated to rigorous study of war and revolution and his work is invaluable.

So I get it. Hate Ann Arbor. Will neither confirm nor deny that I bombed and strafed it in a military A-10 simulator. But I can also be reasonable about it.

His work is a memoir so it's subjective, but he describes one officer everyone respected and would follow into Hell Itself, and who all by himself motivated everyone around him. He also describes the materialist behavior (theft and cowardice) of the hardcore Communists appointed for their ideological purity, and how even Stalin had to resurrect men from prisons and gulags to actually fight. Not my point, but okay. Yes, there are cops that would walk away. My point is that there are plenty of cops out there that would continue to enforce laws because their livlihood depended on it. What percentage? I don't know. I do know that as far as our military, the current (and some of the past) juntas have tried their best to scuttle it by putting in command those with commie leanings loyal to the left, not the Constitution, and have done their best to drive the "wrong" kind of soldiers out of the military.

Umm, whores by definition are very good at deception otherwise they wouldn't be in the job. Police by their nature in many urban and suburban tend to be around a lot of folks that aren't exactly society's best. Often have the same upbringing but chose being a cop instead of a thief, pimp, etc.

In marriage, a lot of people put their bucket down where they are at and I am sure if he knew that fact, she promised him that she had changed, would not do it anymore now that she found true love, etc. Same as scumbag gigolo males do to females. Often people want to be deceived or seen as saviors.

The few times I have been on college/university campuses I have found them unbearably oppressive regardless of ideology. I'm a 'street guy' and for the most part just hate the abstraction of 'higher education' in general. If you say there are enclaves of common sense in these places I don't believe you. But I'll take your word for it. All I see are effects of the policies that ooze out of them.

222 Here are comments on Ramset vs. Hammer Drill:

"If you need to do a lot of fastening and you aren't super worried about pull-out force then ramset is awesome. So for basement walls it's great, you can put down a ton of fasteners very quickly and for walls you won't really have any upwards vertical force so pull out strength doesn't matter. For hanging stuff into concrete and block walls though, a hammer drill is better. "

"If you Ramset something in place it is a bitch to remove and you have to refasten in a different area because the concrete will be damaged."

Reddit, so YMMV.

223 What percentage? I don't know. I do know that as far as our military, the current (and some of the past) juntas have tried their best to scuttle it by putting in command those with commie leanings loyal to the left, not the Constitution, and have done their best to drive the "wrong" kind of soldiers out of the military.
Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia)

Rank and file tend to be a lot more pragmatic and even mid grade military officers in the trenches, say below Colonel have to deal with a lot of issues that the higher ups simply ignore as unpleasantness. Basically, the more insulated you are from the consequences of wokedom, the more tyrannical you can become. The lower ranks don't have that privilege whether as a street cop or a PFC.

So, they typically subvert, quiet quit, or do malicious compliance with insane orders and cops and PFCs have been doing that for years.

224 When the money is worth nothing and the risk to hide is great, then cops vote by walking out or simply not enforcing laws. Note how many cops are leaving blue jurisdictions and not being replaced.

Portland is suffering severely from this. They are bringing in rookies who only intend to stay for a year and then go to a better place. What is more, all the surrounding jurisdictions canceled their mutual aid agreements because of the local prosecutor's hostile attitude.

Right now, it's a hiring paradise for cops, who can get good work in plenty of supportive communities.

Tapcons. The anchors will expand the masonry/brick/etc. Check the Tapcons from time to time: they will rust. The Tapcons basically 'tap' the hole in the masonry. Hence, 'Tapcons'. They are not more widely used because they're expensive.

From personal experience in these matters, your summary of reddit speaks the truth.

FWIW, depending on the size of holes, on bricks, you do not necessarily need a hammer drill function but you do need masonry bits. Ditto for cinder blocks but the heavier concrete blocks/slabs/etc do need it. Also a corded hammer drill is generally cheaper than the cordless and the price goes up with whether you need a really big hole or a smaller one.

You can do that carefully with a regular drill or a smaller hammer drill in some cases by drilling a pilot hole, then a bigger hole, etc. until you reach your desired diameter but over 1/2 in, then you have to go to a bigger chuck or misuse a Silver and Deming oversize drill. Spritzing the drill area with water prolongs the drill bit life.

250 Do the Orthodox do prayer intentions during Mass?'

To greatly simplify and mis-state, Orthodox have no problem with anthropomorphizing Jesus Christ in an image (This is absurdly simplified) so if you want to pray, there is the Ikon right there. Go talk to Christ. He's right there.

You can ask for intercession from Saints, also in their explicit Ikonic image. Praying outside the Church with other living human beings just isn't really a Thing.

I go into this in the Picture Story essay/thingey on the website.

Tapcons or their Simpson strong tie competitor type screws actually have rated the holding power of their screws. Based on size, the bigger the screw, the greater strength resistance. Consider though using pvc for your buck frame for the window. Home Depot and Lowes have the stuff and it will never rot out on you. Older homes have more solid hardwood buck frames but the new pine stuff is simply not that good over the long run about resisting rot.

His opinion was, the USSR won WWII because 'good people' allied with it.

He then asks, and it's a very good question, 'Was that moral?'

I wouldn't worry too much about the caulk but advise against Liquid Nails as it hardens. A silicone caulk will stay flexible and can be removed if necessary. I'd recommend brushing/wire brushing the masonry/concrete surface and spray-painting it to seal it up. I've used multiple sealers but automotive spray paint works fine.

AERT makes some 2x4's for decking use and goes by the trade name of Moisture Shield. Work fine as a buck frame--stuff is both heavy and rigid but color is limited of course if that makes a difference. Wood fiber reinforced plastic. My deck made of the stuff is over ten years old and with a good deck wash looks as good as new.

Use the leftover polymer 2x4's for replacing some base plates on a frame chimney that had rotted out.

Other than the "wages are soaring", I agree.

How is re-industrialization possible absent massive wage growth?

And wages aren't a cost for the National Economy.

Ford paid his workers a lot (a lot!) so they could buy his cars.

SCOTUS actually stepped in and made him stop increasing their pay.

I presume there isn't really going to be a need for assembly-line workers if/when EV's are the primary manufactured vehicle for US consumption. If that's where it goes.

Inflation is a tax to increase the take the government and the buddies of the central bank get, and the joy of it is the scramble to see who gets to pay for it. Employers who see the bottom line go away, or the workers who's wages never seem to keep up with the essentials like housing, gas and food?
And the government and their media voice call both sides greedy for not being willing to beggar themselves.

Industry feels put upon because they put the politicians in place and held them there, and labor feels put upon because they got special consideration for years and were the politicians' muscle on the street in exchange.

Ah, and you're the one who decides, right?

How about not being so envious of other people. You get that an employed overpaid worker is better than an unemployed one, right? Your taxes go up, crime goes up, other businesses fail, so you get even more unemployment, and more taxes, and also a growing pool permanently dependent people.

This is Kevin Williamson style thinking.

Makes everything we buy more expensive. It’s Econ 101. It’s also how tariffs work. They help a small segment while making everything more expensive for everyone else.

Basic example. 1000 GM workers are helped. But because cars cost $10k more, people don’t spend that $10k elsewhere. Which leads to 2000 people losing jobs because that $10k per car is not spent. Multiply that throughout the economy and it’s why paying UAW slobs $200k is a net loss for the economy.

What was it good for? It was useless in the USSR, in a total breakdown of society 'money' is value-less. I have experienced that. It's a shock. And once you decide not to purchase pussy, you're in a class of your own.

LOL, not quite. Wages don't drive inflation, the money supply does. Always has.

Again, that's corporatist propaganda "We have to keep wages down! It's for your own good!"

Same with tariffs. They raise wages by protecting workers from competing against slave labor. There's no moral imperative to pay people the least possible wage. Oh, and when those jobs are exported, we get a trade deficit. The capital investment for the factory leaves the country, the wages earned leave the country, and the money spent for the cars leave the country.

If we used hard currency, this would be immediately obvious, and it was, which is why we went off the gold standard.

The reason we have inflation is that we have to print money to sustain the trade deficit and also runaway spending. It has nothing to do with wages.

You are really ignorant of labor economics aren't you. Labor is actually unique in where it has a backward bending curve--at a certain pricepoint, you will quit no matter how high the wage rate is because you need to sleep or you die.

What the labor market has is a market distorted by academic credentials required after Griggs v. Duke Power in order not to be sued. Then there are other crap required by lenders, investors, etc., now you get to where the leaders and the interlocking board in a mutually assured rip off pay themselves well over market rates. Corporate governance today is by and large a Confederacy of Dunces.

What you end up with is something like monopolistic competition rather than a true free market based on ability and performance. Labor markets consist of silos where certain gatekeeper requirements more or less stop outside entrants to those jobs. This means a smaller pool for employers to choose from and thus higher wages ceterus paribus.

So did cutting immigration. Real wages rose, standards of living rose. Inflation was almost nonexistent because we had currency pegged to the dollar.

Your rough sill at the bottom should have about 13 degrees or so slant to the outside to drain water. I also use PVC brick molding nowadays--more convenient, rot resistant and easier to cut than wood Only disadvantage is painting in some climates as the wood's porous surface works a bit better than pvc unless you rough the surface up a bit. But that is not a problem if you like white as you can leave it as it is.

Unions are cartelization of labor enforced by the government, and it fits in with the government enforced cartels of the manufacturers and the importers and the producers of raw materials. What is driving most of the strife is inflation, not greed.

What is going on is a decision on who pays for the inflation, the producer, the labor, or the buyer. Your argument is that you, the buyer, shouldn't have to shoulder the cost of inflation, it should be Labor (UAW)

It is as invalid as the UAW position, or Ford's. However, you don't have representation as a consumer, and Labor and the auto manufacturers do.
