Kevin McCarthy Announces Support for Impeachment Proceedings Against Joseph Robinette Biden

Criminals are referred to by their full names.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday announced his endorsement of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in an effort to seek bank records and other documents from the president and his son Hunter Biden.

Speaking to reporters during a news conference Tuesday, McCarthy said an impeachment inquiry into Biden is a "logical next step" of the GOP-led investigations that have been going on for months.

"This logical next step will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public is exactly what we want to know the answers," he said. "I believe the president would want to answer these questions and allegations as well."

...

McCarthy has signaled for weeks that the House could take up an impeachment inquiry, which would provide additional legal power to the House's investigations into the Biden family. The GOP-led investigations have not uncovered evidence of wrongdoing by the president, or connections between the president and Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings.

This is NBC "News," still pushing the Ukrainian/CIA Disinformation that there is "no evidence" that Joe Biden participated in Hunter's "business" dealings.

Speaking to reporters Monday night, McCarthy claimed that new revelations were turning up each day, citing Biden's use of pseudonyms on emails when he was vice president.

"Claimed."

"It only raises more and more questions, and we're gonna have to find the answers," McCarthy said Monday. "And this is all information that just has been coming forward that we've been able to find out. But the other information is we find that the Biden family delays everything. It benefits them to delay the information. The American public deserves to know."

The House Oversight Committee's investigation, which focuses Hunter Biden's meetings and payments from several foreign sources, has yet to produce direct evidence showing that the president either received this money or helped solicit it.

Note how casually they conflate "no direct evidence" and "no evidence."

There is in fact a ton of evidence that Joe Biden was using his crackhead get as a bagman. An email from Hunter Biden to his sister complained that his "dad" was "taking half his salary," for example. The two routinely comingled funds and Hunter paid Joe Biden's expenses.

But NBC "News" keeps pushing the Ukrainian Disinformation that there is "no evidence" at all that Joe took bribes.

Hunter Biden's business partner, Devon Archer, testified last month that Hunter would frequently call his father while meeting foreign business associates -- but that those conversations only involved pleasantries such as discussing the weather.

Stay Gold, NBC "News."

Unlike the typical leftwing Fake Impeachment, this impeachment is well-founded. As Benny Johnson reminds me, the Constitution says the president will be impeached in cases of "bribery, treason, or high crimes and misdemeanors." He certainly seems to have taken bribes from foreign countries, including enemy countries like Russia and China. That could even arguably qualify as treason, at least by the loosey-goosey standards the Democrats have foisted on us.

He also reports that Marjorie Taylor-Greene and Greg Kelly are talking about so-far unrevealed evidence against Biden, consisting, Kelly says, of an audio recording of Biden. His sources claim that when this is made public, Biden will be forced to end his 2024 campaign and withdraw as a candidate. He talks about that about 40 minutes into the clip.

72 It's honestly a little bit of a political gambit at this point. Right or wrong, the history is these types of moves actually increase the president's popularity. So I expect to see a bump on that front. The other part is that McCarthy is facing a revolt from the Freedom Caucus, who have essentially stated if he doesn't do this they will seek to have him removed as Speaker, and they will shutdown the government by voting against any CR. They also have more demands, so this is going to get sporty.

73 The party line is that there’s no evidence that Joe Biden profited from his son’s dealings. But the administration has stonewalled any effort to get at the truth, and the White House is now building a war room of lawyers and communications staffers to fight the investigations. It’s disingenuous to argue there’s no evidence while you are working overtime to thwart any attempt to find evidence.

Assume that this is true. This is indeed all they talked about. Now think about that. What is the benefit of that, and is it normal?

How many big money business meetings have you been in where the other party calls his famous dad and puts him on speakerphone so you can chat about the weather? I'd wager that the answer to this is, "none."

There's an implication here, even if the assertion is true. There is no reason to waste people's valuable time with weather-related inanities with an old cretin unless everyone understands what those inanities imply.

The retail politics don't matter a bit. It's the Meme War payoff. Cement into the public imagination that the Democrats are just as big of crooks, if not bigger crooks, than the Republicans. You don't need them to think too hard. You don't *want* them to think too hard. Just so long as people begin to stop wearing their home team's jersey out in public, that's all you need to get the snowball rolling.

79 Setting aside whether this is a futile exercise or not, McCarthy has framed the issue in a way that tells us that he's not really interested in impeachment. The objective of an impeachment is to obtain a conviction, not "find answers to questions. The answers come first, then impeachment. And we already have the answers.

83 72 It's honestly a little bit of a political gambit at this point.

The caucus will probably vote for a short term CR anyway. There's not enough time on the calendar to get anything done by the end of September. The devil will be in the details anyway. I don't think FC is against a short term CR (read one that doesn't push it to the holidays) but they do have other demands such as a vote or inclusion of their immigration bill. I don't believe most caucus members have any issue with that anyway. That is on the House. But the senate is another matter, especially since they are on the minority.

If hearings and such move forward, and Joe has a medical emergency, I'm sure his physician will say it was, at least in part, caused by the additional stress the investigations and hearings caused him.

148 >>Historically - as Marcus pointed out @72 - impeachment proceedings correlate with increased popularity. Combine that with the "punish Trump for bad news about Biden" national policy, and it may explain why the GOPe is greenlighting this.

They are green lighting an impeachment inquiry, not an impeachment. And some of the previous impeachments did increase the popularity of the target but in those cases it was about an affair and made up bullshit.

Joe took bribes from oligarchs and tyrants to change US foreign policy. That isn't going to increase his popularity if they can prove it.

152 Hunter Biden's business partner, Devon Archer, testified last month that Hunter would frequently call his father while meeting foreign business associates -- but that those conversations only involved pleasantries such as discussing the weather.

This willful ignorance infuriates me. Even if it's true that they only discussed pleasantries, that's not the point. People in D.C. measure their dicks by how much access they have to powerful people. Even among the President's inner circle, the people live and die by how many minutes of facetime they get with POTUS. They are acutely aware when that time goes up or down and how much time others get with the man.

THE FACT THAT A GUY CAN PICK UP THE PHONE AND GET IMMEDIATE TIME WITH VPOTUS IS THE SELL. Hunter Biden is doing this in the middle of a meeting with his business partners as a closing argument. He's selling that he can get Robinette on the phone any time he wants, AND THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE BUYING BY BEING IN BUSINESS WITH ME.

Biden has, for one, lied about his involvement. Why? What was his role? Why is the administration hiding financial information? Why did the money move through a bunch of shell corporations with the Biden family as ultimate beneficiaries? How was that money distributed? How did Joe Biden benefit either directly or indirectly. Was Hunter the bagman who then simply held his fathers share and wrote checks when he needed money or had expenses?

Those are all legitimate questions and that's only what has been made public.

Bingo. The "impeachment inquiry" is the MacGuffin and the real action is disenfranchising Trump voters with Republican complicity. It also is a bone thrown to try to drown down the howls for blood when McCarthy fully funds the police state apparatus, which will directly harm people McCarthy claims as his constituents.

Not to say this is not a good thing, but it is a distraction from those things than will affect and harm us. There is no way to justify the new FBI building, for example, other than blatant cowardice and corruption.

306 This is hilarious.

Biden's Energy Secretary has been telling anyone who would listen that they were intentionally making gas prices go up, and would laugh anytime someone asked her what we could do to make gas prices go down.

Apparently someone thought she should go out and show the proles how amazing battery cars are.

So she went on a road trip in an electric vehicle. But they kept having trouble finding available charging stations. Solution! Send someone ahead in a gas powered car to sit in an electric charging spot so she could glide in, charge up, and be on her way while smiling for the cameras.

But other people in battery powered cars got pissed when the charging stations they wanted to use were being monopolized by some douche in a gas powered car, so they called the cops.

They also try to deflect and scream about Kushner making billions from Saudi Arabia, ignoring how we know about Kushner's deals because they were all transparent and done in the open, which tells us they weren't shady, while everything Hunter did was masked in dozens of bank accounts and fake business dealings.

Yes, his voice is weaker than it used to be, and his gait is stiff, but on the matter that currently has 62 percent of the public seriously worried—namely, whether he has the mental acuity to serve as president—his performance should be reassuring.

The public’s perception of Biden’s mental decline is out of all proportion to reality...there is just no way to watch Biden’s Hanoi press conference and not recognize that his brain is working fine. He responds to questions in appropriate fashion. His words are diplomatically chosen, and his thoughts follow in logical order. He remembers what he just said a few minutes ago and doesn’t repeat himself (or not more than the average politician).

Biden’s physical presentation—the slow and careful walk, the slightly pitched posture—suggests age more than his words. He is perfectly capable of thinking on his feet. Whoever has been deciding to keep him under wraps for fear of gaffes is hurting his cause. People have come to believe that he is in sharp mental decline. When you see him in a Q&A, it’s clear that he isn’t...

453 The White House blasted Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) Tuesday move to direct House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden, calling it “extreme politics” of the worst kind. “House Republicans have been investigating the President for 9 months, and they’ve turned up no evidence of wrongdoing,” Ian Sams, White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, said on X. “His own GOP members have said so. He vowed to hold a vote to open impeachment, now he flip flopped because he doesn’t have support,” Sams said, referring to McCarthy. “Extreme politics at its worst.”

I tried to make this point a few days ago on another thread but I was not on my home wifi and must have gotten a banned IP because it didn't post. Anyway...

One of the things that I think I hate most about FJB is that some people who I know are not idiots are forcing themselves to sound like idiots to defend him because admitting that "The Cons" might be right about something would be intolerable. So instead, people that I would otherwise like and respect debase themselves to protect Joe. I know that they're volunteering for it but I still blame Biden.

Some. *Some* prominent Dems are chattering about it, but they're largely in the NYT's orbit so far. The WaPo and its orbit is still firmly pro-Biden, which means the Party and the IC are still firmly pro-Biden. There's dissent in the ranks and factions are jockeying for position and trying to trigger a crisis, to be sure - but so far, the Party is holding quite firmly.
