I think it's just that English readers focus on the first couple of letters of a word and assume the rest. They've done studies showing that people can easily read text which has a lot of typos or missing letters so long as the first couple of letters are correct, and the word is about the right length. We can sight-read from the first couple of letters and word length, with the brain filling in the best guess of the word.
So I just had "Fr" in my head and the rote processing part of my brain just filled in the best guess for names beginning with "Fr," which was Frederick.

I wasn't of that opinion originally, but I've come to agree with this view. Compared to what Hillary had in mind when she became POTUS, Garland may actually be on the moderate side of the crazy train. Everything he's doing now can be chalked up to malice and revenge, not ideology. A Ketanji Brown Jackson-type was probably more what would have been installed in a Hillary presidency.

I once saw a judge who did this same thing McC does-- freezes up at random intervals. The judge was diagnosed with a condition (can't recall the medical name) which causes intermittent "mini strokes."
Looks to me as if McC is exhibiting EXACTLY the same symptoms.
Fwiw, the judge in question 1) retired suddenly and unexpectedly after these strokes began, and 2) died shortly thereafter.

I've had elderly relatives do this. They stumble and almost fall if not for someone catching them, they forget where things are and have to be shown, can't zip their jacket without help, etc. and then get mad and yell "Stop treating me like a baby!". It is an angry reaction against their failing faculties against the people helping them rather than acknowledge that the old gray mare 'aint what she used to be. Some will just say thank you and laugh.

A group of smash-and-grab robbers remain at large after ransacking a Pasadena store and escaping with over half a million dollars worth of jewelry on Tuesday.

Only until the '24 election, and maybe sooner than that if there's a date when special elections can be held in Kentucky. They would elect someone to serve the remaining 2-year stub of his term. The appointee wouldn't stay in for the whole time.
