Dog Rescuers Cafe

lambleaping.jpg

I would like to be friends with this dog. And I think he would like me, because I know where they sell treats, and I have six dollars.

eclipethebusridingdog.jpg

I don't want to move to Seattle, though. Maybe we can just Zoom.

Here's a dog that makes friends with anyone outside his window.

A "velcro cat," as they say.

No one ever writes science fiction stories about cats taking over the earth, and for good reason. Cats are dumb. Or let's be kind and say cats are simple.

This dog takes his home protection duties a little too seriously.

Another dog who doesn't respect barriers.

At the playground.

Whuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...?!

The CDC just hired this dog to decide when to declare a national emergency or not. They like his instincts.

From Lost in Space: Baby has had enough of these f*cking socks.

Some cute dog videos strung together. Don't worry about the second dog -- as you'll see, he's a faker. He must have learned that he gets treats and affection when he pretends to be lame.

Cute little beggar.

Absolute legend:

We got him back on Saturday after 2 nights in hospital - he is on a bland diet and a bunch of meds to control diarrhea and vomiting and also on something to support his liver.

My daughter's place is about 480 ft2, but a good chunk of that is a hallway from the door into the place. It's $2800/month, but in the upper east side, so she's constantly told she got a steal.

145 Horses are amazing. Our cognitively mentally impaired adult son struggled very badly after our move to IN -- got really depressed and was acting out. He's also nonverbal. I asked a new friend from church about anyone having horses, because M had ridden in therapeutic riding for 20+ years, but we didn't have any contacts down here. She had heard of a Christian ministry that uses horses and other animals for therapy (but no riding). We went out to check it out and they saw M's need and made a spot for him immediately. We saw behavioral changes after the first meeting. He's still going but he doesn't need it like he did, but he loves the horses and the work he can do there. Their therapy horses are just amazing. He walks up to them and they rest their heads on his shoulder. We are so thankful. It made a huge impact on his transition to our new home.

175 Speaking of dogs (and cats too), the San Antonio Animal services has one of the highest rates of euthanizing dogs in the country. Please if you are looking to adopt or rescue a dog, they have gorgeous pups in there. You can reach out to them and get one of their rescues to pull the dog of your choice and the rescue then will coordinate travel to where you are located (ie San Antonio Pets Alive Rescue).

They put down so many wonderful dogs (many German Shepherds and mixes, Huskies, even Labs) including puppies every week. It is horrendous. If you find it in your heart look in youtube. Volunteers post the ones on the euthanasia list everyday.

Thank you guys.

A quick recap: on the ham radio thread, the best reason to learn some skills and become a ham radio operator is that you learn some chops that could enable you to set up a pirate radio transmitter to get the truth out to the people. And if it runs a few hours before the Fascists shut it down, it has done good work.

Quaise is talking about drilling using microwaves to get way way down where the mechanical drills won't go, and there is a company called GA Drilling is claiming to have something called a Plasmabit for doing the same.

Quaise is looking to dig next to coal plants to use the infrastructure to run the plants on geothermal. So they have to go way down to hit heat and wet.

207 Canada mulling 'game plan' if U.S. takes far-right, authoritarian shift
'We are certainly working on scenarios,' Joly said in French during an interview
Dylan Robertson · The Canadian Press · Posted: Aug 17, 2023 10:27 AM PDT
http://tinyurl.com/mr4xmuxz

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says Canada has been considering a "game plan" for how it would respond if the United States takes a far-right, authoritarian shift after next year's presidential election.

Another question mark hovers over the prospect of American intervention in Canadian democratic processes. Far-right politicians in the U.S. voiced support for the "Freedom Convoy" protests in 2022.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is now running against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, both fought against attempts to prevent Americans from donating to convoy protesters.
In September 2021, the Liberals promised a to create a "Canadian centre for global democracy" to shore up like-minded countries in age of rising authoritarianism. The project has not yet been launched.

225 I loved tubing the salt river in the 70's. I remember I thought it would be fun to swim do2n one set of rapids without my tube, to show off to my buds, and just as I went over a little waterfall it felt like something reached up from below and grabbed my ankle, and suddenly I looked up and I was 20 feet underwater and caught in a washing machine. Somehow I had the God given sense to just arch my back, relax, and try to float, and I finally got to the surface about 100 yards downstream after what felt like an eternity.

Do you have an SWR meter? If the antenna is not tuned to the transmitter, much of your transmitted power just gets reflected back down the line.

The reason it is hot down there, and cool at the surface is that rock is an exceptionally poor conductor of heat. So, if you drill into a body of hot, dry rock, you can "mine" the heat stored in it, but the recharge rate will be small.

232 In UK, national lottery proceeds go to support international sports teams and the National Trust historic sites, not "education." So their background of training for the minor Olympic events like Modern Pentathlon is awesome compared to other systems. At Bath for the world championship, I expected great things of Brit jumping horses with the equestrian history there, but felt a little let down -- there was a lot of rortiness and haughty attitude (by the horses, I mean). DIL had the only 300 point ride of the week, but just our luck, in a relay event in which her partner was unseated, so no score. Everyone else struggled with the course. Next year will be the last for the equestrian stage of MP; it's being replaced by an obstacle course. There are no cavalry horses t'Yerp no more. Pan Am games in Santiago may be different, because it is at the Chilean military academy and South American armies still ride.
