High Anxiety Cafe

Some very short videos here

This tight little unit is enjoying a shower.

Peeping tomcat.

Would you like a slice of cartoon cake? Stay with it!

Surf's up!

Just running some errands in Switzerland.

Why did the baby cross the road? A little harrowing but everything's fine, don't even worry about it.

Another baby rescue. Tense but the baby is saved.

This is gross but fascinating. This is one very blocked pipe. I think that must be Jonah Goldberg's toilet.

Some people have a good sense of their surroundings. And then there's this woman. (And, to be honest, me -- I'm barely aware myself.)

Man revives puppy by giving it CPR as its worried mom-dog looks on.

Apparently tying knots with your tongue is something people can do in real life.

Now we're cooking with fire.

Some of these Transformer furniture designs are awesome. I really like the secret garage entrance.

A little less anxiety. Still some anxiety, though.

Like a turtle, always remember to place the baby on the side of the road it was heading toward otherwise it will just try to cross again.

13 Speaking of Jacksfilms created a second Youtube channel devoted entirely to making fun of Sssniperwolf, who is an obnoxious Yootoober who posts "reaction" vids to TikToks and Instagram posts.

She get millions of views, and is apparently getting insanely wealthy doing nothing but fake laughing, using a few stock phrases and sound effects. But the worst part is, she steals the content from the original creators, never gives credit, sometimes crops off their logos, and even worse, crops the video so she can steal whatever "funny" comment the original poster said.

Jack is a hoot, and has been doing vids over a decade. He occasionally gets burned out, then something like this comes along and re-energizes him. I think the spark for it was her trying flex on him on twatter. Even made fun of his hairline.

Big mistake, cupcake.

Not to be confused with Mulholland Drive, which is a muddled, twisted, at times incoherent jumbled mess of a brilliant work of art.

I've seen explanations for it online, including Lynch himself trying to explain his theories on time, for which I have such a blind spot, after he explains it, I completely forget what he said.

I prefer to leave the film not having a fargin' clue what it was that I just saw.

AUBURN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Auburn Community Hospital is officially bringing back its COVID-19 mask mandate after only a month since announcing the end to the mandate.
This news comes following the new Eris COVID-19 variant that has been spreading in the Central New York Community.
On August 17, Syracuse’s Upstate Hospital announced it’s also requiring all staff, visitors, and patients in all clinical areas of the hospital to wear masks.

Syracuse, NY -- Upstate Medical’s two hospitals, University and Community General, reimposed mandatory face-masking Thursday morning after reporting an uptick in Covid-19 cases.
Covid testing is now also required for all patients being admitted to the hospitals, according to a memo sent to Upstate staff and provided to Syracuse.com.

Makeshift outdoor show held after two venues cancel booking of comedian known for his gender-critical beliefs

A comedy event featuring Father Ted creator Graham Linehan was staged in the open air outside the Scottish parliament on Thursday evening, after a second Edinburgh venue refused to stage it.

The organisers, Comedy Unleashed, booked the plaza outside Holyrood’s main entrance, and erected a small makeshift stage for an audience of roughly 120 people, after failing to find another indoor venue.||

68 I'm watching the British crime show Silent Witness and I just heard the stupidest line ever, uttered twice!

Coroner finds three bullet holes in kid's corpse and is shown pulling a bullet out of one of bullet holes and says, "Based on the wounds, I'd say either a rifle or a handgun was most likely", removing a copper-jacketed bullet out of the entry point. Doesn't state or 'guess' at calibre.

And at the cops' meeting a forensics guy says, "We're checking ballistics but we're looking at either a rifle or a handgun at this stage."

No shit, Sherlock. I guess it being a bullet pretty much gives you only those two possible choices! [And note they didn't say 'We don't know whether it was fired from a handgun or a rifle yet'.]

I couldn't tell the calibre or the like as it was deformed a bit and as my experience is extremely limited although I think it was much larger than .22LR and had a pointier tip rather than domed.

I've been out there during some heavy rains, and the storm sewer systems only seem to be able to handle a half hour downpour and then things back up. Could take care of some homeless and illegal encampments down in Maricopa county.

Another weird thing was that it looked like the database included AR15s as legally-owned weapons that really surprised me because they've been banned here for awhile [but not other semiauto AR15 clones].

Other weapons were 22LR, shotguns as well as the ,223 and AR15s. A third of the registry names were women, so I'm going to check the credits later to see if they're names of female crewmembers!

129 Vivek Ramaswamy denies backing Bernie Sanders COVID mask bill he once touted as 'sensible'
https://tinyurl.com/mvvsn5an

In an Aug. 1 recorded spaces conversation on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ramaswamy said around the 20-minute mark, "No," when asked by commentator Josie Glabach if the wealthy businessman "ever supported 'Masks for All' legislation by Bernie Sanders." However, the claim falls in contrast to a tweet by the GOP White House hopeful in July 2020 in which he replied to ex-Obama official Andy Slavitt, who co-authored a CNN op-ed with the senator calling for "masks for every American."

"My policy views don't often align with Bernie, but this strikes me as a sensible idea," Ramaswamy said in 2020 in response to Slavitt, who would go on to become President Joe Biden's senior COVID-19 adviser, sharing the article on social media. "The cost is a tiny fraction of other less compelling federal expenditures on COVID-19."

"They should have picked someone from the political right as a co-author to show consensus," he added.

Yes and no - you won't understand this if you read the legally incoherent article from the whacky lefty doofus from The Hill who wrote this headline, but the judge dismissed the charges in that court only because the plea deal was voided and needs to be...ahem, refiled by the Special Counsel that Garland assigned. The charge did not or should not have gone away regardless of the prosecution's withdrawal in order to refer it to the SP. In other words, and too bad for the Hill idiot that wrote this drivel - Hunter is still going to have to be charged with that felony, unless the DOJ just decides that, hey, these felony violations just don't get charged any more.

147 I guess the ice bullet was my imagination or from elsewhere [State of Fear aside]...

In 2375, Science Officer Chu'lak used a TR-116 rifle to murder fellow Starfleet officers Hector Ilario, Greta Vanderweg, and Zim Brott aboard the Bajoran space station Deep Space 9. Chu'lak modified the rifle with a micro-transporter, which allowed him to beam the bullet into another room, only 8-9 centimeters from its target. An exographic targeting sensor allowed Chu'lak to scan through walls and target victims anywhere on the station from his quarters. Lieutenant Ezri Dax later used a similarly modified rifle to stop Chu'lak. (DS9: "Field of Fire")

And...
During a game of Clue with her mother on the USS Cerritos in 2381, Beckett Mariner guessed, "it was the chef, in the biolab, with the sniper rifle that can shoot through walls." (LD: "wej Duj")

I have a smaller fire, two ridges over that started a couple hours ago. The evacuation area is still a couple miles to the east, but we're getting 20 to 30 mph winds.

I spoke to my friend who was a former Eastern District USA prosecutor - this is standard for a federal court when a plea deal is withdrawn or sent back and a new plea deal is attached to the charges - ie the original charges are dismissed that were attached to the plea deal and new charges with the new plea (of guilty) are awaited by the court - the court is not going to be amused if now no new filings are forthcoming - the DOJ better have answers for that.

Alternative theory, if the doc has experience with this part of the biz, if he's a hospice doc or otherwise treating this population, he knows what he's seeing, and wants fewer family members around who might want extraordinary measures taken, that he knows won't change anything, and will only cause more distress and bitterness between family members who disagree on it.

I sense a possible response along those lines from the DOJ - ie no further charges are contemplated after "dismissal by the court" of the original charges and attached plea - but the court will, so impugned, would immediately put out a release saying this dismissal was perfunctory given the withdrawal of the plea arrangement and we fully expect charges to be refiled with a new plea agreement attached, or similar such language. Leaving it in the DOJ's court - So, the DOJ has to do something here, it can't be nothing...unless, of course they don't care what anyone thinks. Which is an option...

Got there early, checked in, told to come back at 1300 per appointment. Went to the canteen for lunch and then to the smoking area. Talking to an older gent, I asked him if he was an in patient. He chuckled and said he was on Death Row. The VA leased an entire floor to a hospice company with the proviso VA patients get in first. He couldn't say enough good things about the treatment he was getting, and that the folks working there should be nominated for Sainthood.

I regret that, though I think it was just the last five minutes she (perhaps) struggled more than necessary. There was no appearance of any struggle ... I hope God was involved.

The very end is generally not pleasant, but the right drugs help a lot. Hospice can go on for a year or more, I am told.

Just assume everything is nefarious. It works for me.

244 A lot of vegetation growth from last winter is drying out. It could end up sliding down the hills. This could be a very bad storm. It's supposed to hit LA with 50mph winds as well. Just in time for CottonHead Joe to leave for HU-AI-EE.

I thought he was supposed to be vacationing in Tahoe

I guess I've hit that stage. Don't like it one bit but there it is.

Arson, for sure, in some cases.

Government malfeasance in the matter of doing basic forestry management.

Drought, and weather, which are recurring natural phenomena, and not due to the mythical climate change.

247 Some people are saying it's DEW weapons starting the fires. I don't know if I believe that but what kind of fire melts cars into a puddle?

He is but he's supposed to do a flyover of HU-AI-EE because Twitter and the Right embarrassed the shit out of his handlers.

250 Absolutely amazing how he called the steps to our current strife...

Do you have a link to that speech, or to a transcript?

Hot ones. Also there's gas in some of those things.

Seriously though, wild fires are crazy things. You may think you know what a mile wide fire will do, but you don't.... unless you are a some sort of fire-puty-outy guy.

253 Just to be clear, I don't enjoy wearing my tinfoil hat. It's scratchy and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the absolutely bizarre scenario that has unfolded within the past four years compels me to keep it perched upon my melon.

254 It almost is not about trump in some instance. It is about letting the American Stasi get away with it, with GopE help

Posted by: Jonah at August 18, 2023 10:05 PM (33nmr)

255 Yes, but wouldn't the gas blow up instead of melting the car? I admit to not knowing that much about fires.

256 Murdoch mafia must be irate tonight. Debate was their chance to be relevant for the first time since Tucker left

Gas doesn't blow up unless it's aerosolized, which can happen if the gas tank is ruptured and sprays out. It'll just burn away if it's still in the tank.
