Bad Guy Killed By Good Woman With a Gun
A thug held a gun to her husband's head.
That was the last violent, feral act he committed or will ever commit.It was a quiet Monday afternoon for a couple in Salem, Indiana, at least until a man drove his car into a couple's yard and threatened the homeowner with a firearm. According to the Indiana State Police, that man was saved thanks to the quick response from his wife, who spotted what was going on while still inside the family's home.Update on the story:
Police said officers found Michael Chastain in the front yard with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital in Salem, where he was pronounced dead. According to a news release Tuesday, the incident started when Chastain drove through the front yard, grabbed the homeowner, forced him to the ground and pointed a gun at his head. The homeowner's wife saw it happen and shot Chastain with her handgun.
Investigators with Indiana State Police told WDRB News that Chastain is well-known in the area, and has a criminal background. He dated the homeowner's daughter, but she no longer lives at the home, so police aren't sure why he targeted her father.The thug must have been white because the Bonfire of the 7-11's hasn't started. Yet.

There is a weird correlation though with weapons being hit far more than coincidence would predict.
Believed to be that humans identify and target threats naturally and some people focus intensely on the threat (aka knive, pistol, long arm, etc.) and subconsciously pull the shot toward the threat.
But, it is not a sound tactic nor does it excuse you from using lethal force.
The reason to aim for the torso is because arms, legs, and even the head are very mobile but the torso is not.

I seem to remember once reading that there are actually quite a lot of hand/arm wounds in gunfights, more than one might expect. Mainly because people tend to fixate on the gun rather than their own front sight and the opponent's center mass.

He said one day he saw a cop pull someone over in front of his house.
As the cop got out of his car the perp did as well with his PISTOL drawn and got off 6 shots before the cop could draw his weapon. All 6 shots missed. The cop fired once...and dead perp.
After they cleared everything up my friend checked his property and found a few of the bullets nowhere near where the perp was aiming.

Their rates have never been that good even back in revolver times. Same as expecting someone from the military to be an expert shot--mandatory range time once per year with a guaranteed std. of mediocrity is not going to make anyone into Annie Oakley.
On a rifle firing for a distance, a lighter trigger pull matters a helluva lot more than at self defense ranges if you are trained properly.
I demand a trigger that is smooth but never gave a damn about a light trigger pull on a handgun and yes, I fire my revolvers double action and learned DA/SA on a Walther PPK with teh DA at about 15 lbs for the first shot.

That is why occasionally you will read in the report "shot in the direction of..." Like "a fusillade of shot were fired in the direction of the perp" not aimed, just sent downrange roughly where they figured the landed rounds might do some good.

A heavy trigger pull is useful if you have half assed trained personnel in the same way that the old military 45 carry mandated an empty chamber outside of a war zone.
A light trigger on a target rifle makes sense, for a hunting rifle, it might or might not depending on the target.
A light trigger on a self defense weapon is more likely to produce an AD absent some other qualifier like a hammer fired weapon, safeties, or extensive training.

Every trainer in the world who knows what they're doing will tell you to strive for consistency in everything you do. Why would you intentionally introduce an inconsistency into your process? DAO means every trigger pull is the same. Practice that and keeping your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire.

It does but when faced with a threat, people often ignore it. Think a study had people subconsciously touching the trigger on drawstrokes just to verify it was there. They were not even aware they were doing it.
Hammer fired in DA has the advantage, whether a revolver or a DAO hammer fired semi auto where you learn to draw with your thumb preventing the hammer from going back--no hammer going back, no discharge even if you violate the 3rd rule.

I learned on revolvers including snubbies and crappy 22 LR rifles where you have to use the pinch method to pull the trigger with some degree of accuracy in some cases.
A DA/SA does not particularly bother me but you do get a bit larger grouping and hand fit is absolutely critical. First semi auto was a Walther PPK which had really heavy DA trigger and very small sights. Thing was laser accurate though at close range up to 7 yds despite it all.

Probably a few though the dialects for Mexico are far different than the ones in Ecuador.

Wise. I have a RISE LE model cartridge trigger in my AR-10 for that reason. All my ARs have single stage triggers but my bolts have double stage which I actually prefer. Have a blackpowder rifle with set triggers and that is sweet using the set trigger. Never have got the scratch together though to get one of the rare Mauser 98 set trigger s that come up on auction sites now and again.
