People are constantly falling to their deaths around waterfalls and long scenic dropoffs because they don't have the sense to understand that there's no network of tunnels underneath with helpful staff waiting to catch them.

Large toad swimming in the pool, the sort of toad that druggies lick. We have a Frog Log, so the question is: why isn't he climbing out? Mrs Splunge deployed the net and got him out, but it was two toads, a larger one, and a smaller one clinging onto its back. Huh.

Toad combo, deposited well away from the pool, frantically worked over the next couple of hours...to get back into the pool. Fast forward a couple of hours, and there are about 500 eggs in clumps in the pool.

Turns out that ground floor toad was a girl, and the toad clinging to her back was a dude, and he was waiting to fertilize her eggs as they came out. And I guess the whole thing has to be done in water.

Now I just have to come up with names for 500 tadpoles.

Yeah, we had a nest that I drove over with the lawnmower a couple of weeks ago. Thank goodness I passed over quickly and saw the activity when I turned around.

It slowly, non aggressivly, approached the sandwich, flew around it, saw a piece of meat kind of hanging, landed on it, carefully removed it and flew off. I stood still, didn't move. It was interesting. The whole time, it was obvious the yellowjacket was unconcerned with me, just wanted a small piece of gyro. Can't blame it. It was a damn good gyro.

See, there is a thing called "scope" when anchoring. In a calm, protected anchorage, that'd be about 7 ft. of chain, for every foot of depth. 50 ft. of water, you'd want 350 ft. of chain between the anchor and hawsepipe on the ship.

If storms are forecast, or it's an unprotected bay, exposed to the sea, you'd want 10 or 12 to 1 ratios on that "scope".

Point being, you want the ship to be exerting a horizontal pull on that anchor. That's what keeps the flukes digging into the bottom, and not being lifted UP and away. Which is exactly what happens with too little "scope" on the anchor rode.

232 I walk up on deer in my yard all the time at night. It's nice to have dinner on the hoof for the hard times. They were all born on the lot next door but the lady that bought it has chased them into my yard. I don't mind as long as none of them rear up and try to fight me. One is an 8 point. Pretty big. Plenty of edibles in my yard and water too.

That aside I had a freezer crash. 200 pounds or so of meat. Probably off for a week at least until the "You hiding a body in here?" questions started coming.

... and life sucks.

When the snow melted I found the rabbit. somebody had shot it with some kind of bolt, like a crossbow bolt. Bright orange.

Harvesting critters for food I understand. But someone was just being a dick.
