Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

81923coffee.jpg

***

Is this how breakfast in bed was invented?

DRINKING coffee could give you a boost in the bedroom, experts claim.

A cup of Joe in the morning is known to increase your energy — but the caffeine and other natural chemicals also help improve blood flow to other parts of the body.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

7/15 – Coelacanth sent thanks for the prayers of the Horde for his son Cam, who has returned to the family and has graduated from a very tough Masters program. However, he was recently diagnosed with POTS (Positional Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). His balance is off and he gets winded on a short flight of stairs. He has faith that this is all still part of God’s plan.
8/5 Update – His condition is improving, although he is still limited. Found out that his neat little apartment was grossly contaminated with several types of mold which may have contributed to his condition. His new job is going well.

7/22 – Donna&&&&& would appreciate prayers, as she found out she has breast cancer. It was caught early and is slow-growing, so she is optimistic.
8/5 Update – Her lumpectomy surgery is scheduled for August 16.

7/22 – Dash my lace wigs posted that she and her husband could use some prayers. He had an incident involving too much drink, too many stairs, too much anger, and The Law. He is on court-ordered sobriety, and she thanks Jesus for that, but sees a long and difficult recovery ahead. She prays that he succeeds, and that she will have the strength to stand with him through it.
8/5 – Thanks to all who continue to pray for them; her husband has 3 weeks sober. Thank you, Lord.

7/24 – The DMV MGC is requesting Moron prayers that strength, endurance, and peace may be granted to blaster, Sra blaster, and her sister, as they face a rough family situation that several others among the horde are currently facing as well as others that have already faced, or will eventually, face. Sra blaster’s mother is not doing well either physically or emotionally and is also suffering from dementia/Alzheimer’s. She is being cared for by both her daughters right now in Florida and very dependent upon them but needs healing and home care (which is hard to come by in Florida). Prayers for her recovery and ability to resume some level of independent living would be appreciated.

7/29 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice updated the Horde on the good news of his dad’s recovery. On 7/22, he was non-verbal and incapable of controlled muscle movement. He could still communicate with facial expressions and his eyes. On 7/29, he packed up his walker, folded and loaded his clothes and announced he was ready to go home. It looks like he had sepsis that knocked him loopy, as well as the UTI.

7/29 – Thefritz asked for prayers for his son-in-law and his daughter, P.R.T and C.G.T. His son-in-law found a lump in a testicle and the doctors have ordered surgery. They have been trying to get pregnant and recently miscarried. They have been married less than two years, so this has left them fearful for his life and a future with biological children. Thefritz asks, “Dear Lord, please bring healing and calm to them. Give them strength together to deal with this. In Jesus’ name, I pray.” He also thanks the Horde in advance for their healing prayers.

8/3 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his friend Mike, who suffers from bone cancer and the disease has reached the end stages. Mike is very low and probably cannot hang on much longer. Prayers are also requested for his dear wife Judy. She has been a magnificent caregiver throughout Mike’s troubles. She is terrified that the final days have arrived and, as a very private person, it is very difficult for her to share her worries with anyone.

8/3 – Goddessoftheclassroom asked for prayers. She said she is hurting so much, on the fourth anniversary of her elder son’s death.

8/4 – San Franpsycho updated the Horde on his buddy Paul’s medical status. So far, all treatments are ineffective and his tumor remains inoperable. He is a candidate for a drug trial at Mt. Sinai and they hope to hear soon if he was accepted. So far he is hanging in there!

8/5 – Screaming in digital heard that her sister-in-law’s mother is in ER with breathing problems. Prayers are appreciated.

8/5 – Grammie Winger said she would appreciate any prayers for her son.

8/5 – Mindful Webworker had some requests: MiladyJo has her first hip replacement surgery scheduled for the end of August. Praying it all goes well and she’ll be out of pain. While they were repairing GoodsonM’s busted leg, they saw heart problems. The cardiologist told him if he’d get his blood pressure down and lose some weight, he should be okay. So far he has dropped a bunch of weight, which is encouraging. Prayers for peace and happiness for Daughter and her husband. With MiladyJo and GoodsonM both being somewhat in capacitated, Daughter has been a huge help to them (driving, dog care, etc.) SonC, his wife, and their two kids (oldest just turned 6) remain estranged – and strange. No visits or contact for almost 2 years.

8/5 – RedMindBlueState provided an update on his buddy’s wife. Her cancer is stage 3. The surgery went well, but she’s in for a lot of chemo over the next 6 months. Thank you for all the prayers.

8/6 – Cybersmythe requests prayers for Parnell to recover from his cancer.

8/12 – Hrothgar asked for prayers for Gabriella, a lovely young lady with great promise, who was transferred from the hospital in Puerto Rico to one in Tampa to get advanced treatment for a very aggressive cancer. This past week showed this new treatment seems to be extremely effective and she has made a remarkable recovery. She is not out of the woods yet and still needs prayer support, but her outlook has improved so much that the hospital staff were celebrating it!

8/12 – Mk Y asked for prayers for the family and 3 year old son of Logan, his nephew, who was killed in a motorcycle accident.

8/12 – Moon_over_vermont received a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in June. It is a type of cancer that typically responds to treatment, but it’s everywhere. The second chemo started this week. If his/her comments ever made you smile or you thought they were insightful, or if you can spare a passing thought or prayer, it would be appreciated.

8/12 - Tuna sends thanks for all the prayers after the death of her husband last month. She knows they were instrumental in being able to find a little peace of mind.

8/12 – Oddbob sent out an emergency prayer request for his 4 month old granddaughter. She had some sort of seizure on 8/11. They took her to ER and they did a bunch of test and found nothing. Then it happened again on 8/12, so they went back to the ER.

8/15 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for V. She has not been able to reach V, a dear member of her congregation. She hasn’t been in church for two weeks, and usually never misses. She lives alone and has no family. Fenelon figures she may have to go to her house.

8/16 – P asked for prayers for her nephew R, out east. He suffers from Chiari malformation – his brain doesn’t quite fit in his skull, so part of it protrudes from the base. He has suffered all his life with migraines and dizziness, which makes it nearly impossible to keep a job. A neurosurgical specialist will operate on him on 8/21. Please pray that the operation is successful and he will be able to live a much more normal life.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

20 My new AC system has lowered my summer electric bill about $50 compared to same time last year. Of course, it will never pay for itself in my lifetime, but whaddya gonna do.

It probably is difficult to measure YOY when electricity prices have probably risen since and the daily weather isn't identical to last year's.

I think the biggest jump in electric bill savings takes place when moving from a single station to a multi-stage or variable speed system.

Going to a variable speed allows for temperature/humidity leveling where you can set a "Feels Like" temperature, and the system will speed up or slow down to maintain it.

My granddaughter spent the week in a children's hospital while the doctors worked to get her seizures under control and diagnose the cause. I don't think anything hit hurricane strength. Last system I saw was named 'Don' and it disappeared in the mid Atlantic. I did see some stuff yesterday off the coast of Africa, but no name to it yet.

But just you wait and see, worse year ever due to climate change!!!

There have been 4 named storms and one unnamed storm thus far. None have made landfall as a hurricane that I'm aware of. You'd have thought that would be Big Climate News ™

It's not stopping NOAA's Climate Prediction wizards from upping their forecast from "normal" number of storms to "above normal."

Currently there are 4 "disturbances" in the Atlantic being tracked.

63 My wife's younger brother and his family could use prayer. They lost everything in what's being called the Gray fire in the small community they live in west of Spokane. Fire was driven by 35+ mph winds. He and his youngest were trapped and preparing to get on their boat to escape the flames when firefighters showed up and got them and some neighbors out. One neighbor had gone out in his boat and sent pictures of the aftermath. Entire neighborhood is gone as is a significant amount of the town. We have a fire east of us . We're still about four + miles out of the evacuation area but it changed direction this morning, jumped the highway and is burning in our direction. There is some pretty thickly wooded, rough country between us and the fire. On top of that, one of the two feral kittens I found suddenly turned listless, stopped using its back legs and is barely eating. It's essentially dying in my lap. My attitude is on the low end of the spectrum right now.

70 A graduate student of Meteorology, related to me by bloodline, explainified this year's lack of Atlantic hurricane activity: LaNina.

He said it is causing dryer than normal conditions in the Sahara, which is creating above average amounts of dust. The dust is being carried out over the Atlantic to the region of the Azores where tropical waves form and reducing the amount of convection.

All sounds logical enough.

Bottom line: in toto, if you want more hurricanes, you have to bless the rains down in Africa.

You see lack of Atlantic hurricanes is due to global warming. Also having a Pacific hurricane is due to global warming.

Print can often be the same. Every biography of Dorothy Parker repeats the same story, that, since her friends were worried about her drinking, she went to Alcoholics Anonymous. "Are you going to join?" Dottie: "Certainly not. They want me to stop now."

Great story. And the biographers all place it about 1930-1932, around the time the Depression got started. The problem is, AA wasn't founded until 1935.

111 It's shaping up to be a beautiful day here in Michigan. Last night had the windows open for the first time in weeks.

Amidst all the bad news, let us remember that God remains present and if we sometimes wonder why His work isn't more obviously, the likely answer is that we have shut ourselves off from Him.

To that point: incredible news from Maui that the Catholic church and rectory in Lahania were the only structures spared by the wildfire. When I say "spared," I mean the entire church complex is almost untouched. The school was damaged, but the hedges are still green. It's incredible. The parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Victory, btw.

God is sending us clear signs, but are we even looking?

My portable solar panel which is four panels and folds up with a handy carrying handle is producing 275 watts at 9:50 am with a sunny sky with just a tad bit of haze. Intended for off grid RV living. Rated at optimum conditions at producing 350 watts per hour.

To put in perspective my refrigerator uses around 70 watts per hour. So at least I have that covered in the inevitable power outage. Country living in a small community is nice but when the power goes out our priority level is ~0.

They did some testing of 1000 random poles in Texas:

A finite element analysis was performed using ANSYS® Workbench to evaluate the resilience condition of the 1000 poles based on their angular deflection. Wind speeds of 90, 100, 120, 140, and 160 mph were selected and applied to each pole within each hurricane category, which is determined by the Saffir-Simpson hurricane category scale.

It appears that 90 mph winds are at the very bottom of potential toppling. It could conceivably be lower if poles are less then vertical due to infrequent safety checks.

237 Two years ago on Friday the 13th of August, Daughter and my 101yo Mom went out to lunch at Mom's favorite place. When they got home, Mom headed to the bathroom, but fell and broke her hip.

I did not rush down to the hospital because we weren't c19 compliant, but mostly because Mom had her live-in nurse helper with her. She was rushed into surgery for a successful hip replacement. As a Moron said when I mentioned it, if they did that, she must've been in good shape, and she really was, for 101. Expected her to get up and come home.

Then my little sister flew in from out of state. She held all the legal power for Mom. From the hospital, my sister called and said, "Mom has made her end-of-life decisions." I had battled siblings before over Mom's health, and I knew I was powerless. When Mom's trainer called to encourage Mom to get up and start getting used to her new hip, my sister cut her off.

By this day, two years ago, Mom was dead. When I last saw her alive, my sisters were hovering over her unconscious form, debating whether they needed to use fentanyl. I had to leave.

The Horde as always was full of prayers when she fell, and sympathy when she died. God bless ya.

They hate and fear people of faith, particularly Catholics. Notice how many churches have been vandalized or burned in the US and Canada and all the officials just shrug - or suggest that they had it coming.

We should remember that God allows the wicked to prosper only because it serves His ends. He afflicts us in order to cause us to repent and turn back to Him.

Too many people think they can vote evil away, or pass laws or change the tax code, as if those have any spiritual effect. But as we're already seeing, the laws we have only work when people enforce them, abide by them, and have a sense of obligation that goes beyond themselves.

I think the tide is turning - people are figuring it out. The signs are there for those who look for them.

Bagels are boiled, not baked.
Bagels are chewy, not soft or cake like.
Bagels are savory. Cream cheese. Real cream cheese not the whipped stuff. Lox or cream cheese with chives. No fruit!
Bacon or sausage egg and cheese on a bagel are also acceptable.

254 Your government at work!

The National Park Service will renew efforts to rid an area of the Colorado River in northern Arizona of invasive fish by killing them with a chemical treatment, the agency said Friday.
A substance lethal to fish but approved by federal environmental regulators called rotenone will be disseminated starting Aug. 26. It's the latest tactic in an ongoing struggle to keep non-native smallmouth bass and green sunfish at bay below the Glen Canyon Dam and to protect a threatened native fish, the humpback chub.

Controlled use of poison has gone on for decades. My stepfather was a fish biologist and they would do planned kills to conduct a census of a set area.

There's a narrow window to stop invasive species and sometimes it's easier to go scorched earth and then repopulate with native species planted there.

The types of questions where you have to think about it for a bit. And surprisingly - to him as well as me - most people knew stuff. For me, land is land, a house is a house. If I can make a few $100k selling and renting for a year or two, I’m in. I’ve done it before.

Everyone values things/money differently.

Not sure. He may have a slight speech impediment. But very slight. What I always enjoy about him is his consistent signature use of the phrase "but yeah" as he comes to a conclusion. I always listen for it...sorta like Paul Harvey's "Good Day!"

__________

The procedure itself isn't a big deal, it's the prep that's disgusting. My last one was 14 years ago and a recent screening test came up positive, so I thought I should get it checked. The preliminary results from this morning were not alarming.

331 I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... www.Payathome7.com
