Regular Tuesday Morning Rant Host CBD is currently at an undisclosed maple syrup rehab facility in the North East somewhere.
...............With liberty and justice for all. It feels fine when you say it. It sounds good when you hear it. The concept noble. And once upon a time our country strived to provide liberty and justice for all. No more. And it hasn't been that way for quite some time. I'm not sure when the erosion began. But it has been ongoing for a number of years. And what was once the Shining City on a Hill is now a fractured sludge tank of political power, greed and disdain of what is right and wrong.
The current prosecutions of Donald Trump and a quick review of recent history shows to what great depth our nation has sunk. The recent history I speak of goes back to 2003 when former Clinton aide Sandy Berger stole classified documents from the National Archives. Berger got off with 2 misdemeanor convictions and a sentence of Please don't do that again Sandy. Mkay? What a complete Bull Shit sentence. Not to be outdone by a man named Sandy, Hillary Clinton said, "Here, hold my Chablis." Hillary destroyed documents which were under subpoena, mishandled classified information and kicked Bill's dog. We don't have time to review her other "foibles". The bitch was never faced any criminal charges. Perhaps her punishment was losing the 2016 Presidential election. Between Berger and Clinton, I don't know who got the last laugh. Other liars from the Obama regime? James Clapper and John Brennan come to mind. Nope, nothing happened to those two loathsome individuals except for some lucrative media deals.

But as a senator and vice president with no right, as does a president, to declassify files, Biden removed and, as a private citizen, kept for years classified files in unsecured locations. Biden's team strangely revealed the unlawful removals after years of silence. It did so because the Biden administration found itself in the untenable position of prosecuting the former president for "crimes" that the current president committed as well -- albeit far earlier and longer.

I was reflecting this morning on rather trivial story, but one that reflects how institutions fall apart gradually, and then suddenly. I don't care about college football these days, but it's been a bit fascinating to read how surprised everyone in the Media is at the collapse of the PAC-12. It's been in trouble for years, of course, but the people running it were promising new deals, new money, and big revival constantly right up until last week, and every reporter covering that segment believed them.
and then, in one 5 hour period last Friday, the whole thing collapsed, and now it's all over but the crying. As I said, gradually, and then suddenly. That's how big things fail. The funny part is how shocked all of its supporters are.

Yet they are trying to twist the law, with the help of their propaganda organ we know as the media, to ignore the facts and make Trump into a criminal.

A far more interesting question to me is exactly what documents did Trump take and why was the regime so determined to get them back? Odd that issue is never really discussed.

I would replace the word "law" with "legal processes". What is really under attack is Justice. Rogue DAs, rogue judges, rogue US Attorneys, rogue FBI, rogue IRS are undermining the US legal system, applying legal processes to political enemies while ignoring or "deeming" a process to be a sufficient resolution of the "law" for political affiliates.

The only reason Berger was charged was his mode of theft was so over the top even the Dems couldn’t brush it off completely. They did the best that could be done though.

For the most part, historians can tell you what happened and why but don't look to them for policy prescriptions going forward (most of history's lessons are tragic warnings btw).

In regards to DeSantis, it's kind of interesting how we forget where we were a short time ago.
The 2022 mid-terms went over like a wet fart for republicans. The power of Trump didn't lead to massive victories or upsets, and the landscape seemed to have shifted away from him.
At the same time DeSantis was surging and throwing red meat to the crowds like he was a freaking lion tamer.

She said something to the effect that the oppression came on like an anesthetic, a slow drip that took away ones rights so you almost didn't notice it until it was too late to do anything about it.

Then when we woke up in the morning, they all admitted that they had continued counting unsupervised and Biden was magically ahead by just enough to avoid automatic recounts.

Well a Michigan Judge ruled that the election laws were not followed for absentee ballots in the 2020 election.....Wisconsin supreme court ruled the State violated it's election laws during the 2020 election in regards to absentee ballots.......Pennsylvania supreme court ruled the change to no excuse absentee ballots for the 2020 election was unconstitutional.....
Both trump and guiliani were screaming about illegal drop box and mail in ballots being counted. Most of the shenanigans that occurred during the 2020 election revolved around incomplete, altered, blank, duplicate, fraudulent or otherwise spoiled absentee ballots that the States counted when their own laws said they should not have accepted or counted.

If you can buy a much nicer home with a smaller mortgage in the higher-tax state, you might still come out ahead.

I'm not holding my breath, but I do find it curious that Trump seems to want the latest prosecution to go forward quickly. One of the charges seems to be that he was committing fraud in claiming the election was stolen. But to be guilty of that, he'd have to know the opposite, which means he could present any evidence he has of the theft as part of his defense that he didn't know any such thing. And the proof standard wouldn't be particularly high to keep that evidence relevant since it's only going to show what he knew at the time, rather than having to provide a level of proof that would convince a judge to overturn the stated election results.

My take-away is that he only really needs to prove that i would not be unreasonable for a reasonable person to believe that the election failed to follow all applicable rules and laws.

Trump lost to Biden, by the only definition that matters, and unless the Romneyites have a SooperSecrit plan in place at GOPe HQ, the same result is likely.

296 Here's the issue. The election was ""fair" according to all that's been mitigated so far. I've seen a lot of stuff that lacks integrity, is questionable or subverted the legislatures. I think mail in balloting and no ID, ballot harvesting is insane and unconstitutional , as does most of the OECD countries yet the GOP has done zero to address it.
That's really the challenge. When asked these questions there is a lot of punting, gesticulation and sighing but no facts.

I think you have failed to understand the key issue. Electoral fraud is a law enforcement issue. It is addressed via criminal investigations and prosecutions.
The legal Constitutional challenges were a dead end. SCOTUS was quite clear and I think correct.
How is one to get evidence of a crime?
Why did the GOP not pressure GOP AGs and DAs to investigate and prosecute? Why did the DOJ not investigate and prosecute?
If the issue is whether or not cheating actually happened, and you aren't sure, then there is nothing to talk about. As you are impervious to reality.

And each and every time his challenges were brushed aside for lack of standing, lack of ripeness, too rip and ultimately because reasons.
None of his challenges were allowed to be heard.
It similar to Kari Lake in AZ, her team presented extraordinary evidence to show voter fraud and gross malfeasance, the judge essentially said, Nope, denied, FYNQ.

I think the slope starts when a country "gets too big for its britches" to coin a phrase. For the US that started after WWI. Now we became a "major player" in the world, and the concern changed from what is good for Americans to what is good for the world.
