The Cat Is a Rat Cafe

darkforest.jpg

Some vacation porn from Santorini.

Screentime monitor.

A TSA drug- and bomb-sniffing dog gets a nice retirement surprise.

School of fish see a lady diver with a nice butt and rush on over to chat her up.

Kitten discovers its paws. And this kitten just discovered its tail. If that kitten's anything like I was, he's going to spend the next two weeks in the bathroom.

Antarctic ice-bats want a cuddle.

Monet's Pond, Japan.

This magic show is the hottest ticket in town.

I've earlier linked another dog pretending to faint to dissuade his owner from cutting his nails. This must be a Social Contagion, because this dog tries the same ploy.

Curse your modern food packaging technologies!

Beluga enjoys the violin.

Little John the Bear is a master of the quarterstaff.

Gray whale says hello and accepts a little smooch.

Here's a little kick in the ass. Now straighten up and flight right.

Giraffe having a nice scratch.

A puppy learn to doggy-paddle.

Playing ball with a cow.

Dogs would like some food now please and thank you

I was just there. The stairs leading up to it were fine in the morning; they were a madhouse coming down in the afternoon. A whole bunch of people who don’t know how to guide a horse/donkey riding them, and a whole bunch of people who don’t know how to act around horses/donkeys crowding them.

Still has nice scenery, though, and I found an out-of-the-way restaurant while wandering the island and had some phenomenal snails with garlic and a very good orange sort-of soufflé/lava cake with chocolate ice cream.

The Argo Restaurant if you’re ever there.

119 SFGate: California lieutenant governor unbent by backlash to Taylor Swift stance

California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis is doubling down on her request for Taylor Swift to postpone her upcoming concerts in Los Angeles to show solidarity with striking hotel workers in the region.
Kounalakis — who is running for governor in 2026 — faced criticism Wednesday for agreeing to join with dozens of other state and local politicians in sending an open letter to Swift urging the singer to delay her Los Angeles concerts. The editorial board of the Orange County Register penned an opinion piece Wednesday accusing Kounalakis of virtue signaling and hypocrisy given that Kounalakis attended one of Swift’s two concerts in the Bay Area last week (it should be noted that hotel workers in the Bay Area are not on strike, and Kounalakis has only asked for LA shows to be postponed).
“All workers deserve dignity and fair wages,” she said. “I stand with Unite HERE in their fight for a living wage, and I hope we can use this moment to bring attention to the hardworking men and women who are the engine of our economy.”

146 COVID Pimps Getting Excited for Anticipated Summer Virus Surge https://t.co/G2HguNI6EB

In the Wednesday print edition, the Sacramento Bee reports COVID cases are up. In the online edition, the headline is “Are COVID cases on the rise in Sacramento?”
The Bee warns everyone “to stay updated with vaccinations, avoid people who may have or have COVID, and isolate if you think or do have COVID. At medium or high levels, individuals should wear a high quality mask and get tested if they had contact with someone sick. At high levels, people are recommended to mask and avoid indoor public activities if they are at high risk of severe disease.”

And the COVID pimps are excited that there may be a COVID surge in the fall: “Some projections suggest COVID-19 could be worse than a really bad flu season this year and next, which would mean tens of thousands of people would die from COVID-19 annually.”
Jennifer Nuzzo, who runs the Pandemic Center at the Brown University School of Public Health. “The work of protecting people from this virus will continue for as long as this virus continues to circulate on this planet, and I don’t foresee it going away for the foreseeable future.”

This was all Trump's butt boy Hannity's idea. Trump loves Newsom and thinks he will destroy DeSantis for him.

https://tinyurl.com/52z8vpn2
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Wednesday said he’s ready to debate California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
“Absolutely. I’m game, let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where,” DeSantis told Fox News host Sean Hannity, who would serve as moderator for the potential debate.

“You would do a two-hour debate with Ron DeSantis?” Hannity asked him in the 06/12/23 interview.
“Make it three,” Newsom responded. “I would do it one day’s notice with no notes. I look forward to that.”

But styles make fights and Newsome will coast to victory against meatball. I hope not but think he will.

DeSantis has to construct a voter coalition from non-DJT voters. That means he can't alienate the lib leaning independents. And yes, DJT voters will absolutely stay home or write in DJT if Ron beats him or DJT is in prison and disqualified. It can't be done.

Was listening to talk radio show host Michael Berry today (out of Houston; we get one hour of his show here and he's grown on me).

He's all-in on Trump, but thought that the advantage to this strategy of picking DeSantis as his VP (other than the synergistic overlap of their supporters -- where's Kamala's Venn Diagram?) is that it would drag all the #NeverTrump (and big-money billionaire backer) traitors kicking-and-screaming into actually having to reluctantly support the ticket since they've been all-in on DeSantis since the get-go.

Pretty interesting analysis that I hadn't considered.

SCOTUS and judge appointments matter as well as securing the border, sexualizing our kids, taking away everything that is gas powered, being energy independent, taking back our streets from the criminals and on and on and on.

221 Speaking of movies...

We saw "Babylon" the other night and much to my surprise, it was very good, near great.

The movie it reminded me most of was one of my favorites, "O Lucky Man!".

Not that the stories or settings are alike. But, "Babylon" hits several of the same beats and plot points as OLM, and the endings are almost exactly the same in much the same way.

I bet OLM was a major influence on the writing of this movie. Also, "Day of the Locust" for sure and maybe "Wolf of Wall Street' find their way into the mix,

Like OLM "Babylon" wants to say something about life

Acting,direction, etc were all excellent.

"Babylon" definitely isn't for everyone, but if you think you might like it, you probably will.

That was on network TV when I was an early teen that still watched TV. You could track the progression of the extra cars. First, pulled over. Week or two later, minor accident in car chase. Week or two later, featured jumper or roller in showcase crash of the episode. On modern day brougham sites, young people will post shots of these 60s and 70s full sizes getting wrecked with comments of horror.."how could they do that?" No awareness that in the late 70s these were just depreciating used cars. Hope they never figure out why there are very few big Mopars from the era existing..A) because they were worthless and people pulled the big blocks out of them and sent the rest to the crusher.

Depends if you own one of those Chargers or not. DH and FaF have made those cars (one of the best looking designs ever anyway) solid gold, and DH wrecked about 300 of them which is a drop in the bucket as they sold pretty well. At least that many would have rusted away before they became wanted. In the age of the $80k muscle car few remember that well into the mid 90s they had all the desirability that a primer Civic with a black hood and a loud muffler has now.
