The Morning Report — 7/31/23

stinkinpritzk.jpg

Good morning, kids. Family commitments will keep things light this week, at least in terms of the usual editorial, so I'll be doing some Ace-style "quick hits" for the next couple of days. Here we go:

So with the propagandists losing the ability to control the narrative on the Hunter Biden case, especially now that the judge has tossed that insane plea deal, what does the junta do? Have the DOJ run interference, natch!

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said over the weekend that he believes that the Department of Justice is trying to obstruct the Committee’s investigation into the Biden family after federal prosecutors urged a judge to order one of Hunter Biden’s business partners to report to prison as he gets set to testify this week. . .

. . . “It’s odd that it was issued on a Saturday, and it’s odd that it’s right before he’s scheduled to come in to have an opportunity to speak in front of the House Oversight Committee and tell the American people the truth about what really went on with Burisma,” he said.

“The lengths to which the Biden legal team has gone to try to intimidate our witnesses, to coordinate with the Department of Justice, and to certainly coordinate with the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee to encourage people not to cooperate with our investigation, to encourage banks not to turn over bank records, to encourage Treasury not to let us have access to those suspicious activity reports,” Comer continued. “It’s very troubling. And I believe that…this is another violation of the law. This is obstruction of justice.”

In related news, "Red Meat" Ramaswamy just puts another chunk out there.

Ramaswamy said, “The standard I use as our next president is what moves our country forward? What is the right thing for the United States of America?”

He continued, “I would pardon him. I intend to be our next president, and yes, I do believe I will move us forward. I believe one of the right ways to do that is pardon the former president of the United States from what is clearly a politicized persecution.”

Not that I'm supporting him this go-round, but the more I see and hear, the more I like vis a vis a strong voice for common sense and actual conservatism. There is no other candidate that has announced this in such unequivocal terms. Yes, I get it. You're running against Trump for the nomination and he's a rival. But what is being done to him is so light years beyond mere party politics that it demands this kind of statement. I guess most see it as a two-edged sword, but we have crossed so many damned Rubicons that I'm Rubiconned out with this. Props to Vivek for this.

In the SHOT/CHASER Dept., the citizens of Chicago have spoken:

Residents of a Chicago-area neighborhood frustrated by the disruptive behaviors of illegal migrants at a local shelter sounded off to city leaders this week.

Neighbors said they “no longer [had] any tolerance” for migrants who were loitering, engaging in late-night partying, prostitution, littering and even fighting with community members, CBS2 Chicago reported.

Distraught residents told city officials in attendance that the migrants’ behavior made them feel unsafe. “I would ask you all to go out there — go out there at night, in the middle of the night — and see what goes on,” one emotional resident said. Another woman vented, “They disrespect us, they rob us, they harass us.”

One local man threatened that if they didn’t address the issue, neighbors would take it into their own hands. “Let me say this — they’ve got one more time to deal with it, because otherwise, next time they deal with it, they’re going to deal with it from the streets. We’re going to take over. Nobody is going to be able to stop us from what we’re going to do to them.”

Whoa! "Race riots! Blacks beating up Chicanos!" Well, let me say this to these wonderful people. You voted for this and now you're getting it good and hard. Don't believe me? Your fabulous governor J.B. Sitz-Pritzker has heard you! And his response is, "Up yours, baby!"

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) has signed into law a plan that allows foreign nationals with work permits, some of whom are illegal aliens, to become police officers in the sanctuary state.

Democrat legislators, with a supermajority in the Illinois House and Senate, passed legislation in June that opens law enforcement jobs to thousands of illegal aliens enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program as well as thousands of other foreign nationals with work permits from the federal government.

“… an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal DACA process is allowed to apply for the position of police officer, deputy sheriff, or special policeman, subject to specified requirements,” a summary of the legislation states.

My advice to the residents of Woodlawn is, if you really want to stop this, maybe you should send that warning down to the Governor's mansion and state legislature in Springfield, no?

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, we're not only poking the Russian bear, we're evidently ramming a barbed wire wrapped hornet's nest up its keister. Get ready to get your hair mussed.

“The defeat of a nuclear power in a conventional war may trigger a nuclear war,” Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of Putin’s powerful security council, said in a Jan. 19 post on his Telegram account.

“Nuclear powers have never lost major conflicts on which their fate depends,” observed Medvedev.

Ignore the dumb-ass commentary from PJ Media's annoying Rick Moran and focus in on the words of Medvedev instead. Maybe if we didn't send all that military hardware and perhaps laid down a massive artillery barrage for the Ukies to rescue their flailing offensive, the Russians wouldn't be saying stuff like this.

Just a thought, Rick. Sheesh.

So, Obama's personal chef (doesn't everyone have one?) washes up like a Coney Island whitefish in front of his, the dog-eater's, Martha's Vineyard estate under some strange circumstances, and now we see Obama bandaged with a black eye, to offset his purple lips.

And the chef was supposedly writing or putting the finishing edits on a tell-all book about his time with them in the White House. Nothing to see, folks. Vince Foster just telegrammed to say you're all conspiracy nutters.

And how about this? A Chinese bio-weapons lab doing some nasty shit. No, not in Wuhan but in . . . California. What the actual fuck?

Hasta mañana.

This isn't so much a "Trump or Die" sentiment, but i do think if Trump is actually jailed and prevented from running, it is pretty much mandatory for the GOP to close ranks, and either put Trump on the ballot as an act of defiance, or, if they can't do that, abandon their campaigns, leave the GOP slate empty, and call for a nationwide write in for him. It won't *work*, in terms of winning a fake election, but it will work as an official break with the junta and as a denial of their imagined power. This isn't about one man being president or not. It's about a couple dozen other men deciding he may not be, without ever having fired a shot to earn the right to make that demand. This is about how many bananas are in the diet of this particular republic. You want to be a Junta? You better start earning it the old fashioned way, or STFD and STFU.

15 Looked at another way, if the junta gets to decide who is "acceptable" or not, then anyone who is allowed to represent the token opposition can safely be assumed to be "acceptable" to the junta, and we will officially be in One Party State territory with no possible wiggle room for plausible deniability on the matter.

There might be another sociological wrinkle to consider there, in so far as those states all have large, well established, very old Spanish and Mexican populations. Families that have been there since before "Texas" was even a word. And they don't seem to take kindly to being lumped in with a bunch of foreigners. So the newcomers probably feel a certain large societal pressure to not act like third world scumbags. Whereas the live and let live racist gringos in yankeeland see antisocial behavior and say "this is fine, it's just Who They Are, who am i to judge?"

I've sadly had to conclude recently that my 29 year old knees aren't up to kneeling for prolonged periods at my Sunday White Supremacist meeting has just become too painful. I now just sit in the back bench (or, when necessary, stand or genuflect) during Mass.

God forbid that I should intend disrespect to the proceedings but - I hope I'm not rationalizing - it's better to follow with my missal with devotion rather than wonder how much longer the priest is going to polish the inside of the chalice.

In any case, there are, surprisingly, no rubrics for the congregation in the TLM; local custom is used. As well, thanks to the Mystical Body of Christ, when everyone else kneels, they're kneeling for me too. That's why I always wear a coat and tie to church: by doing so, other guys don't have to.

No, immigration is not great, it hasn't been great since before the 65 immigration overhaul.

The year I was born, 1963, the number of people obtaining lawful permanent residence status was about 300k and there was virtually no illegal immigration, certainly not the scale we have today.

Today well over a million people are admitted legally and millions more stream over our border every year.

Our current immigration system is insanity piled on top of absurdity administered as farce.

61 I'm still sort of amused the Chicago residents got torqued off over are relatively small number of new residents to their urban shit hole. Imagine what they'll do when there's thousands of them.

The 'friction' between the blacks and browns is probably a lot more violent than we're allowed to see. It's not as sexy when the minorities go at each other and there's no white devil to pin it on. So the propaganda outlets ignore it.

If the issue ever really explodes it'll be the white's fault for not embracing climate change and becoming vegan.

73 Scenes from coming attractions.

With Archer's testimony connecting dots to prove that it was Joe running the entire scheme, McCarthy will move on impeachment.

The Left can't abide the revelations of an impeachment hearing. Media would have to cover it, but the they'd collectively be exposed as Liars and lose all credibility with most of the nation for the sin of trying to bury the Scandal of the Century. (and Tucker would take over half the nation's news)

The reveal will be so awful that many D Senators would have to vote to convict else face losing their seats.

For the Left, this can't happen. They'll force Joe to resign on account of health. I expect Obama will deliver the message.

So ... POTUS Kamala. Joe was good at faking gravitas. Kamala, not so much.

And how odder that the extra-legal measures the Left took to emasculate the Trump presidency are now the low standards by which an utterly corrupt Biden can be investigated, indicted, impeached, or forced to resign.

199 DeSantis had one shot--prove he could sell Trump policies without Trump. He has failed. Because he hired perpetual losers who only lose to advise him. (And don't his supporters object to Trump's personal?) They told him to attack Trump from the center-right, be the "reasonable" Republican, no-drama.
Loser talk, loser advice from losers.
The dissatisfaction with Trump from the base was--and is--exactly opposite that: They want more aggressive policies, more fights, much more of the media-hated "far-right."
Ron could have taken the nomination from Trump easily. But it meant never attacking Trump--always only attacking Democrats in the issues. Right where Trump was weakest. Instead of his whiny, "Trump didn't build the wall but I will" saying something like, "the Democrats hate law-abiding Americans and that's why they fought the wall. When I'm President, they will beg me to build the wall. Because I'll raise the taxes on their blue cities to pay for every illegal that crosses if they don't."
Now, Trump is a bad choice and Ron is worse

Chicago, 2020:

...The second homicide took place minutes earlier outside the Super Espiga Grocery at 4920 W. 14th St. Victor Cazares, a 27-year-old Cicero resident, was shot dead; a second person was injured. No one was in custody."

https://tinyurl.com/295tu9bd

No one was in custody. Probably a white supremacist. One would have to assume that since they never bothered tracking down the killer.

This is fascinating, though. The "lost to gun violence" memorial. No mention of any riots or racial unrest. I'm guessing everyone was laughing and solving complex math problems when the white guy drove by and started shooting:

227 Trump will likely attend the August debate.

And just like 2015-16, the "professionals" are going to get embarrassed.

Not because Trump is so good--because they are so bad.
None of them have actual, ordinary voters within ten miles of their consultants circle.
They all watch CNN and Fox for their news; read the NYT and the Post.
They literally know nothing about what voters want that is not refined, filtered and curated through the left-wing media.

Consider: Ron should have come out with a blistering attack on Romney's "let's rig the primaries to beat Trump." That's embarrassing to a fighter, a winner-- you become the best by beating the best.
Instead it's Ron "maybe if she breaks up with him, she will settle for me."

And then Biden or Newsom will get to pick the replacements for Alito and Thomas.

Trump didn't just win the presidency he created a movement that energized low propensity voters and brought new voters into the Party. And I think given Trump's record lots of people think Trump would have been at least as successful in Florida as Ron.

It's not a matter of disliking Ron. Trump has earned a a loyal base both through his governance and through his willingness to fight the swamp at great risk to himself and his family. The vast majority of those people weren't going to leave Trump just because they like what Ron did in Florida.

266 Ah, think this explains why the whale wants to recruit foreign policemen: Illinois' SAFE-T Act went into effect January 2023.

"It's opening the door for the anti-police activist community and the attorneys that represent them that are anti-police," retired Chicago Police Department Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy told Fox News . . .

Roy took issue with several aspects of the bill beyond the one eliminating cash bail, including one that eliminates the requirement that officers accused of misconduct be told the identity of their accuser as well as the identity of the official who is investigating them.

"The problem that nobody sees or turns a blind eye to is the effect on morale, recruiting and retention," Roy said. "Anybody can just make a complaint against an officer. The department or the investigating body does not have to tell the officer who it is, which hinders their ability to respond to the complaint accurately and honestly. It has a bad effect on morale."

Punching down is never a poor strategy. But in the first debate most of the candidates and their style is unknown. Sitting out to watch the first one is a free advantage.

The frontrunner typically has more to lose in a debate than people with less current support. So pretty consistently you'll see the challenger candidate demand debates and the defending candidate be hesitant to do so. That would change depending on relative debate skill though. Against a Biden or Fetterman any candidate would seemingly want more rather than fewer debates.

A later report said that Mr. Obama might have been present at the estate that evening without Michelle. Was he Mr. Tafari’s paddle-board companion? Did he make the 911 call? Mr. Tafari was reportedly no longer in the Obama’s employ and was writing a book about his experiences as the first family’s cook. One reported morsel attributed to the book is that Barack and Michele Obama almost never had meals together. What else was in it? Possibly Mr. Tafari had a book deal. Has anyone located the editor and asked to see the manuscript or interviewed him/her/they about what’s in it? Mr. Tafari, who had videotaped his lap-swimming abilities previously, and was considered an able swimmer, was supposedly just visiting Martha’s Vineyard for the weekend. How did he get through the Obama’s Secret Service security to go paddle-boarding if the Obamas were out for the evening? Did he lug his own paddle-board to the scene, or borrow one from the Obama’s equipment shed? Who let him in there? My goodness, what a busy gal Lisa Monaco must be these days.

300 I suspect a big part of Ron's problem is that people are looking at the stolen election of 2020 - and the subsequent banana republic / coup stage of jailing the massively popular re-elected winning candidate after removal by the government - and wondering why it's not all-hands-on-deck to discuss and remedy that.

This where I have a problem with a Trump candidacy. This is not to be argumentative or to boosterism for any candidate - but this is just not a strong defense. He didn't know any better on staffing? And the pool of candidates was too small then.

How has the pool gotten bigger or better? I mean he can't pull from Omorosa or Scaramucci again so there is that. And he really hasn't shown growth in that area. Like I noted - Wray was *probably* a mistake Trump allows. Because he listened to Christie. So who is he listening to now? People like Lindsey Graham, for one.

This is problematic for me from a practical standpoint.

347 It turns out that levels of water vapor in the atmosphere have dramatically increased over the last year-and-a-half, and water vapor is well recognized as a greenhouse gas, whose heightened presence leads to higher temperatures, a mechanism that dwarfs any effect CO2 may have.

So, why has atmospheric water vapor increased so dramatically?

When the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano erupted on Jan. 15, it sent a tsunami racing around the world and set off a sonic boom that circled the globe twice. The underwater eruption in the South Pacific Ocean also blasted an enormous plume of water vapor into Earth’s stratosphere – enough to fill more than 58,000 Olympic-size swimming pools. The sheer amount of water vapor could be enough to temporarily affect Earth’s global average temperature.

366 Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said that former President Donald Trump still has strong political pull in his state of Pennsylvania, adding that he sees “Trump signs everywhere.”

Fetterman issued his comments about Trump’s status in Pennsylvania when speaking with the New York Times last week about the political fallout surrounding the former president’s indictment.

“It doesn’t matter. I’m a senator, and I’m not sure how many times he’s been indicted. He’s been impeached twice. Has that changed anything? You’re still seeing Trump signs everywhere in Pennsylvania. You have to respect his strength in all of that,” he said.

377 >>This where I have a problem with a Trump candidacy. This is not to be argumentative or to boosterism for any candidate - but this is just not a strong defense. He didn't know any better on staffing? And the pool of candidates was too small then.

I think the pool likely has gotten bigger and probably even more importantly Trump learned a lot in his 4 years in DC and more since. Trump was a first time politician not just a first time president and he was under constant assault even before he took office. The reaction to his presidency from both sides of the aisle was unprecedented and made understanding who could be trusted and who couldn't incredibly difficult.

We probably all had some idea about the swamp before Trump but it wasn't until he took office that we saw how big it really was and how viciously it would attack.

I don't think we can judge if has grown or not by who he has at his rallies. Like it or not the citizens of SC keep voting for Graham and Trump is trying to win SC. That doesn't mean he and Graham are dating.

Besides, nobody really remembers staff after the presidency. The only president anyone mentions this about is Trump. They care about results.

The company received a $700 million loan from the federal government in 2020, a loan that resulted in taxpayers holding 30% of its outstanding stock.
